Congrats The Forerunner although expect to get many requests for a review ;-)

 

I won't be one of the first ones to get it, I will get mine next week sometime. Alex should be one of the very first but I will be glad to answer any questions and of course critique his review.

 

I can not wait for this laptop to arrive at my house. Its replacing my aging powerbook.
Question-Where is gentech located?

 

yah i plan to get mine next week too, late next week though (was told it shoudl ship friday - ground shipping)

im just hoping they got some good battery life on this in the power saving mode, thats the only thing im worried about

yeah maybe some have similar to what I have in my area.

TCWO.com is a e-tailor with there warehouse here in tampa. you cant go in there and look around or shop. But you can go to a reception desk and use a computer to go to there website and get the part#'s for what you want. Give it to the reception guys and they go pull the stuff from the warehouse and you can buy it in person and avoid shipping.

They have a decent selection but not like newegg.com or outpost.com so even without the shipping the prices are higher and the varity is not as good.

ahh cool did he say when they expect there shipment. Its to my understanding today but just wondering if its early or late. Those with overnight shipping it may make a difference in getting it on wed or thurs depending on when they get it today.

I took pictures of my computer "guts" today but they are at home on my camera.

Also had my G7 mouse that I just got for the notebook and I got my wireless AP today aswell. Frys ships very fast to me, 2 days it took for the router and it was supposed to be 5 day shipping. Im happy, just gotta go about setting it up later. G type MIMO buffalo brand with a high gain antenna. I look forward to using it I bet it gives full signal anywhere in my house (and probably to part of my block aswell so I need to make sure to hide its broadcast)

important question

will the asus c90s with the 945G be able to handle the new processors coming out july 22nd? i know its 1333mhz fsb which the motherboard does not support, but its the sam tdp and same socket

will the mobo simply downgrade the fsb to 1066mhz?

and if that is true - will the speed be effected? The E6750 has a multiplier of 8 for example (333.3*8 = 2666MHz). If the FSB was only 1066, would it still have a multiplier of 8 (266.6*8 = 2133MHz) which would seriously slow it down or would the multiplier increase to compensate or am I completely off the mark?

 

If I remember correctly, the new FSB speeds are supported by the Bearlake chipsets, and not the current 945G (and 975X), so no, the new processors probably won't be supported.

Also, I just ordered my own C90...hopefully it'll be here by the end of the week

 

I just wanted to thank all of you guys for doing this. I'm at code red right now as far as needing a laptop and will be purchasing either an Asus G1s, a Sager NP2090, or this Asus C90. Your information, reviews, and reports will be critical in helping me determine whether or not I purchase this laptop.

 

I have a ton of games I'm planning to install when I get my C90 so I should have some screens with fps after about a week. I'm thinking of testing the following (one test overclocked and one w/o):

DiRT
Doom 3
Crysis demo (when available)
CS:S
UT2004 (Pointless I know)
F.E.A.R.
Oblivion
WoW (also pointless)
Shadowrun (maybe)
Quake 4 (maybe)
UT3 demo (when available)

 

What's the largest HDD you can get (within reason price-wise) for laptops? That 250gb sounds nice. What are the specs on it?

Only reason I ask is that I'm considering this machine as a development machine (real-time 3D apps i.e. games -- OpenGL/DX9/DX10) and I'm likely going to need/want to triple boot with XP / Vista / Linux -- so extra drive space would be nice.

 

Has anyone found somewhere that sells the tv tuner? I want to go ahead and buy it.

i been checkin on gentechpc and it seems like they don't have any C90S in stock yet, shouldnt it be here by today?

 

Actually we only have a few in stock. units that were air lifted here fro my self and family/friends. We have a 4 dozen on the way by freight for end of this week ealry next week. If the site says it is in stock that means we either have them on hand, on the way with tracking number or allocated or all of the above. Ordering is open to all public and anyone on the unpaid preorder list. Support for robson is undetermined as of yet however i am fairly certain intel declined support for it on their 945pm chipset. the two internal express ports are for a wifi card and tuner. tuner is unavailable atm however there are plenty places overseas that list them and asus promised to import them shortly. on a scale of 1-10 the tuner is a 1 in terms of ease of installation. Its noce to be a dealer in cali becuase you save thoudsands in freight, and service coverage, but its nicer to be a dealer in NY becuase everyone in cali comes to us due to obvious tax reasons.

 

you already know the names. 8600gt 512mb. that is the only thing brought in by asus.
hd-dvd, bd-dvd and tv tuner are all future options

 

Geared2play, do you think that Asus will be offering larger cell batteries for either the C90 or the G1S in the future?

Geared2play, can we have some sort of a spec sheet on the 8600M GT? I want to know its clock speeds and such.

And, reselling assembled notebooks, I don't know if this applies, but what is the packaging like? I mean, how assembled do the notebook, DVD-RW drive, battery, and all the stuff it actually comes with come? How's the carrying bag?

 

I am waiting with baited breath to see how loud and hot the C90 gets. I really hope the fans run quiet... I can barely wait until the reviews come out..

Honestly, I have a good feeling about this one too. The only weakness seems to be the battery life, which is understandable, but lamentable. I was stuck between a Sager 9750, a Sager NP2090, and the Asus G1S until AlexOnFyre brought up the c90 to me. It seems to have all the high-end capabilities I am looking for in a compact package that has long-term viability. The battery life issue has me torn however, because I am a college student and will probably watch DVD's on my laptop from time to time. I wish it was an easier decision to make but I am working on borrowed time at the moment, which is causing lots of frustration.

I have heard a lot of dealers say they didn't feel one way or the other until they saw it in person, and feel in love with the machine, a video review would probably be nice.
