K thanks alot. Again just a rough estimate. I was a late pre-order, I ordered mine exactly a week ago. Rough estimate, do you think I will have it by the end of this month? I suppose there are hundreds of pre-orders ahead of me. :(

    @Forerunner

You are probably on the line between the first and second shipment, so yours will either ship next week or the week after. Then you should get it in a week's time after it leaves him, so I would say you should certainly get it by the end of the month.

Would whoever ends up reviewing this laptop run company of heroes on full max dx10 and see how low (or "lowest high") you can get it to go?

Have you read the reviews for company of hero's dx10?? it looks 99.9% the same as the DX9 version but with a big kill on frame rate.

I dont think there are many if any DX10 games currently that will run on any notebook with a playable framerate. They simply are coded really bad and the first wave of DX10 cards just dont seem to be up there in the high performance area.

    probably, never played myself.

When I get mine I will have alot of benchmarks, I have a super awsome review planned for my C90. I am going to put alot of effort into it.

Speaking of wich rather than just post the numbers for benchmarks I want to graph it.

Just simple bar graphs, anybody know some free programs that do that for you (I like the animated ones like guru3d.com uses)

I was gonna do bar graphs too, but I am releasing mine the same day I get it, so I don't think I will have time for that stuff. I am gonna do pics, numbers and facts, then follow up with vids and guides.

Im setting up a tripple boot probably with xp/vista x86/vista x64 so I want bar graphs to show the fps for each game in each OS.

This way we will know for sure wich OS is best for games, and it will determin for sure if there is a difference in performance from x86 to x64.

man I really like this program I found called animated charts 2.1 it will be perfect x2 for what I want to do... but sharware... so it has a huge logo on it.. wich id live with but it doesnt seem to even let me export my work and it marks out the title of things...

id not call that shareware but... demoware at the most.

well I found a good goverment site that lets you make graphs right there on the web, not even anything to download, basic but perfectly functional.

So I have all I need to do my review except... the computer :p

The model on its way to the states is the C90S, C90 is the base and the s is the exact model number. Sort of like the G1 is the gaming laptop but the new one is a G1S without the "S" you may by accident be buying a G1P wich is the old one.

For awhile we had rumor based on a single article on the C90 that they was or might be a C90P wich was going to be based on a different chipset/mobo. But I think that project was canned, or it was false information to start with.

Or it won't be released for about 4 months or so. S is for Santa Rosa (or whatever for C90S), P is for Penryn (or whatever for C90P =P). I think they are timeline markers more than anything.

yep im confussed too, as I posted in other thread, Is this notebook santarosa???

It can use santarosa exclusive techs (like dx10 cards,) but AFAIK its not santarosa. So, how important are the new upcoming notebook techs to this laptop? (since most focus in power consumption, size and weight?)

no it is not santarosa it uses conroe core desktop c2d's. no idea why they put the s next to it, possibly because it is being released in the same generation as the santarosa laptops and they wanted a numbering method that followed a timeline more than for specific models.

how about because they wanted too? it doesnt have to mean anything.

    Its a model number.

G1P G1S the P was the old one the S is the new one.

C90S C90P.... C90S came out the same time pretty much, the P is in the future, not the old one... see they dont corespond. Its model numbers nothing else.

It may sound stupid, but if Asus release this model as C90 (c means conroe), and later the 90p, or the 90s?

Because the 945 is a 32 bits it can only let us 3326mb of ram, even having 4GB of Ram installed and the processor with 64 bits enabled and with a 64 bits processor too?

Yeah, I can't find any underlying namign scheme other than: if they look the same but have different base specs, they change the last letter.

Man, I hope this C90S succeeds and ushers in the era of custom notebooks.

Anyone know what the cheapest Bluray drive for a laptop would be as an aftermarket part? I might be looking to make the jump so I can take the movies wherever I go. It's a shame that the screen can't do the 1920x1280 (I think that's 1080p), but I'm willing to cope. ;)

Native 1080 content is 1920x1080 actually wich is the resolution you will find on a HD TV and thats considered 16:9 aspect.

The equivilant computer monitor will be 1920x1200 and thats a 16:10 aspect.

Computers have to be different for some reason :p

So what that means to you is that you will have small black bars across the top and bottom for 1080 content unless its streched to fit the screen wich shouldnt be too noticable.

I was ranting about the HP DVXXXX I saw at bestbuy it had a nice price tag and came with a hddvd drive but when I saw the monitors specs it was like the C90 with 1600x1050 or what ever it was. I thought it was very dumb to put a HD drive on a computer that cant even correctly display the native resolution of HD content.

However since then as I have come to think about it, You visually wont be able to see the difference at all, a normal tv even up to and past 50" size is 480 vertical pixels and it looks pretty good. HD comes in 720 and 1080 pixel flavors. 720p is what is used for most tvs up to about 37" size. 1080p for the bigger ones.

Now your looking at a screen 15" in size... for how small the pixel pitch is (the space between the dots that represent the picture) you wont be able to visually tell the difference from 1920x1200 and 1600x1050 and infact both of them are overkill compared to HD TV standards. You are closer to the screen tho but it wont make a difference between those reoslutions.

The only thing that will matter is that you have a good scaler that can shrink the 1080 picture down to 1050 and not cause any kind of visual disturbances. Thats not hard to do with any modern hardware thats why you can reisize movies and things on your computer and it looks the same.

So yes while it may annoy you in the back of the head like it does me knowing your watching HD content at a "non hd" resolution (well it is its stil much higher than 720p) it will look the same so just dont dwell on it and you will be ok.

Since Ken (GenTechPC) has already confirmed the C90 will not come with the tv tuner and it will be optional, I used the parts list for the c90 from another thread and hunted down the tuner card. Its here: http://www.avermedia.com/cgi-bin/products_odm_A301.asp

I have no idea if this will be the FINAL card they are going to make optional nor do I know if you can buy this card now. It sure looks like the one Ken has in his picture on page 22 of this thread.

I have found a few places to order all the c90 parts like the tv tuner and the hddvd / bluray drives.

the prices were high tho, and I see no need to get the "c90" ones when any 3rd party one should work just fine.

I dont remember the site, I was just on google looking for things.

It was pricy tho like 500$ for the drive. Plus any drive will fit in there it doesnt have to be the same one the c90 has the option to come with.

Your very best bet if you want one bad enough is to wait for a combo drive to come out (im sure there already is one) and find a sale or a good price for it. Id say 200-300$ at most for one.

so then there is the time it takes them to put the parts in (if you customized it) and the shipping to your house. Since my shipment has to be assembled by them and has to cross the boarder to Canada, I would guess I would get it around July 15th - 20th. This wait is grueling.

ok im about to order this thing but i have an important question - and i know i probably just havent read this thread enough but:

will this laptop have an option to reduce speed/fsb/thermal - to keep the battery life over 2 hours when we need it to?

    even over 3 hours?

or is it gonna be like every other desktop speed laptop where its about 45 min

It has a power saving mode but no-one knows for sure how long it will last. Wait for reviews because they should be in next week sometime. You can always underclock even more to get more battery life.

14 minutes is on turbo gear, full load.
on power saver, full load is probably 70ish.

    are those facts?

also do you think if i ordered tomorrow, i would still get it by august 1st?
