Does anyone know anything about the Asus c90p.

Possibly down the line battery technology will get better, and we will be able to buy high capacity batteries in the same form factor, but right now they just won't fit. -

The C91 should have mobile processors. Don't quote me, but I think that is what that lineup is.

there have been alot of pieces of hardware that sit on a battery. it would be like a docking station more than a small square sticking out more.
maybe with enough damand and a cheap enough price it will happen.
of course you can always diy and make one ^^ -
btw alex, have you got your C90s??
well..it loox like you've put C90s owner on your sig -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
Trust me, everyone will know once I get mine
-
You're gonna go nuts with the C90s huh, Alex? Hey- are you taking the C90 anywhere even tho it won't last long on battery or anything?

totally off topic ^^ but the iphone is said to have less than 1 your battery life if you have all its gadgets on
So from this point on, you can not say anything bad about the c90s battery life if you even are considering buying a 600$ cell phone
(btw 2 yr contract required, and a 60$ per month phone plan to use the internet.. thats 2000$ over the coourse of 2 years for a phone.. I cant see why people would do that when intenet on a phone is so limited.. id rather buy a .. c90!) -
So we leave for the US tonight, and the C90 isn't out, so the reviews aren't out, so I guess I have to lug my 17-inch Alienware half-way around the world instead of just counting on ordering and receiving a C90 while I'm there.. Ugh.
Now, how do I go about sending the bill for my backpack-induced blisters to Asus Taiwan... -

I've never owned an asus machine before, But I REALLY need to get this laptop by the end of next week, do you think it would be safe for me to preorder this laptop? I mean i don't want to end up with a crap machine. I wonder if I preorder it, if I can send it back, as long as I don't touch the packaging. That way I could have it here with me, and if the reviews end up good, I open it up and assemble!!!! but if the reviews are bad i can send it back. I need to look up gentechpc's return policy -
how much would putting 3 gigs of 800mhz ram in the c90 help over 3 gigs of 667mhz ram
I read this on wikipedia:
edit: here is the source of this information: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=2&artpage=1963&articID=472
a quote:
-
also you will note, if you go to crucial's website and use their memory finder thing, you choose c90 it tells you that 800mhz ddr2 is compatible!
-
Most return policies say you can only return for same product, so only buy if you plan on keeping it. As for getting it by the end of next week, I strongly doubt it. Even if it gets released, you won't be first on the list of pre-orders.
-
But I still would wait till someone gets one in their hands and can tell you exactly how they're testing the battery life (under load, not under load, and what they mean by "under load"). -
I doubt that, because one article stated that at full load (gaming mode, to be exact) it gets <45mins life. But at normal use that number climbs to the 1.5 hour mark.
-
mine is going to run me about 2100 dollars ._.;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
e6700, 250gb hdd, 3gb 800mhz ram ; ; -

14 minutes is on turbo gear, full load.
on power saver, full load is probably 70ish. -

im so excited i preorder one from gentechpc cant wait for it to come :]

Everyone will use the short battery life as the big flaw in the c90, its true it has short battery life, but the goal of the c90 was to offer a desktop replacement type notebook with the size/weight of a traditional mobile notebook.
that 6cell battery is a big part of keeping it so small and light. maybe a bigger one will be avalible to those who want it down the road if there is a demand, the c90 is obviously meant to be plugged in during most use except for just a quick task like checking some mail or quick web surfing ect. -
i think that there is a good chance that the upcoming C series notebook will come up with 9-cell battery,or even higher..
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Well problem is as sombody else has pointed out to me, that its not a traditonal battery that just slides into the back of the notebook, in wich bigger battires are easy to make, they will just stick out further.
The C90 has an inset battery that fits into the corner, there really isnt much a way to make it bigger unless it goes down.
My idea was to have a "docking station" type battery for it wich just takes up the bottom of the notebook and it sits on it because you cant obviously just extend that one battery area or the notebook wont sit down.
If you take it one step further, since you wont need the entire size of a docking station for the notebooks battery use only part of it and have the rest of it actully be a cooling pad. So you get more battery life and keep it cool all at once.
Then suddenly the C90 would very much be a "laptop" because you can have it in your lap and have it stay cool, and also have good battery life. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
see battery there in the bottom left, it doesnt slide in, its inset
you would definitly have to do a docking station type deal for a bigger battery much the way many things have worked int he past. (suddenly I have memories of my sega CD) -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
I really like the docking station idea, it could add a TV Tuner and stuff too. Possibly even a cooling pad docking station (it would have to be or it would block the fans).
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
See I should work for asus, now I better patent the idea before they or sombody else steals it
Yeah it could hold alot of things with the extra space.
Like plug into one of your usb ports and give you more ports on the front and be a usb hub.
It could have the tv tuner card in it, I suppose but that would be less needed. It needs to have functions that everybody could use/want and nothing expensive to keep the cost down.
Not sure if it can cool effectifly from the bottom there really are not any vents to blow air thru, its almost all thru the back (wich is my main argument against those who said they heard "reports" that this thing is really hot and cant sit in your lap)
Still even just as a battery that has to take the form factor of a docking station, if the price was right id get it. Plus they can use all the space they need that way, so no need to make an ultra compact battery which could mean lower cost, and also really big batteries like a 12cell -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
Not any vents to blow the air through?? Look at that picture again, there is a fan under the proc, a fan under the GPU and four vents around the ACE door in a square type shape!
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah i see them but they are pretty small so not much air is going to go thru there, its mostly out the back. if air needs to come out of those holes you dont want to blow it in, if you tried to pull air out... where would it come in??
I wont know for sure untill I put mine together but im pretty sure that the back area blows out and not in. -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
Well, I think if we are designing a cooling pad FOR the C90, it would account for whether the fans on the bottom are intakes or outputs. =P
Once we know which way the air is going we put fans there to help them out. But if you really don't think they matter go ahead duct tape them closed and see what happens -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I'll pass ^^
-
battery in a docking station??
well, thats a bad idea to put a battery, coz if the lap is put on docking station, sure you'll plug em to the power source, and not using batteries -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
A battey with a docking station form factor, not a docking sation in its general sense.
-
that will make the laptop bulky
somewhat i imagine that the docking station will be like sandwiches yum~! -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
it doesnt have to be that bulky, it wouldnt appeal to everybody, but then again neather does the c90. it would just be a good option for sombody that wanted to have the c90 on battery only for a long time, and it could let you sit it directly in your lap with no ill effects.
id use it, at the coffie shop or something, or in my living room while in the couch. Id have alot of uses for it, if desinged right it wouldnt have to that bulky at all, take a 9 or 12 cell battery and make it much flatter because it gets to use the whole surface area of the bottom of the notebook. -
...and blocking the whole air supply
i think that it is better that asus put 2 fans on each side(left and right) rather than 4 fans on the back side..
although i don't considered it a 'bizarre' thing to do,but at least we can put a bigger battery on the back -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Wow I just got home from lunch. that 2x2gb kit of memory I ordered like just yesterday is already here... That was sooooo fast. thats the fastest I have ever got anything like 1 day shiping over the weekend, and it was from frys... wich is only based on the west coast as far as I know and im all the way down here in florida.
Nice memory, dual channel tested, ddr2 667 5-5-5-15, ocz, lifetime warrenty 2x2gb for 170$.
Id recomend everybody to get this except the c90 only supports 3gb... so its kind of a waist... but I still got it cheaper than most people will get 2/3gb of ram.
as for the docking station battery idea... it wont have to block off the vents, it can have pass thru holes in those ares easy. -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
It wouldn't be hard to design, it would be hard to sell.
-
I just have one question, "When will we see the C90S?".
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
c90s now has "confirmed ata of july 4th". i doubt it was a marketing ploy. 4th to arrive or 4th to leave taiwan? still trying to find out
-
Oh, my! A docking station battery? You could put like 18 cells in something that big.
-
-
FFS! -
: ( : ( ; ; ; ; ;
-
-
let me ask you this about putting 4 gigs of ram in the machine. If I do this, I've read that it will recognize 3.3~3.5 GB and not the entire 4. But that's still more than just 3 isn't it? So would it not be optimal to get 4 for the extra 300-500MB?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Was that just a marketing ploy? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
As you enjoy the fireworks on fourth of the july you will see something reflecting during the explosions. What can it be? Its slowly getting closer and closer...until you realize its a parachute but what can it be? As the fireworks come to a close and the hundreds of lights, colors, and sounds mesmerize and enchant you, you see a box labeled C90!!
Thats right folks in spirit of the American festivities Asus has decided to give you the greatest gift of all, your c90 along with the commemoration of independence, freedom, and all that blah blah jibber jabber. Parachuted in from above personally, not too be confused by an invasion by Taiwan. (Tears in my eyes) Makes me proud to be an American.....err Taiwanese?
Bit too personal.... A man can dream can't he? -
Hi guys, C90S is not here yet but will be very soon, I took some pictures of the C90S with F3SV just to show you guys how slim is it, it's thinner and lighter than G1S:
The LCD back cover is piano finish:
The notebook inside is very clean and everything is easy to install, there is just one cover, the bottom cover to access everything:
