hey guys, to avoid the same question that has been asked, can someone post up the post for me about getting rid of the "Al Gear Help" that appears when you Alt+Tab, i searched it up in the thread but can't find it

also i have a question that has nothing to do with the c90s but would like help,
so yesterday i dled the program post-it from 3m and i had to download the microsoft .NET framework 1.1 to work the program and every since then when i restart my laptop it loads to the LOGIN SCREEN but i do not have a password on my account and i only have one account so there is no point to a password. So i need help with getting rid of this i know its not much of a deal but i want my laptop to load right into desktop again because i wanna be able to just boot up laptop and go afk and come back and it is already at the desktop with everything loaded and ready to go, i don't wanna come back and click on the icon and wait for everything to load

    thanks in advance!

I may get a G50 or M50VM-B-1 soon...I need a second laptop for a backup if the C90 goes in for something, since I've passed my Acer down to my 11 year old. Work from home. That's the way I've talked myself into it anyway :D

Well if the computer is working fine, I'd keep the default settings. Usually with an ASUS notebook I just change the order of the boot devices to what suits me best, and disable the POST sound because it's annoying. That's pretty much it.

The computer works rather fine now.
But before I had to solve issues of BSOD, here, and drag and drop which made explorer clash, because of bad bluetooth drivers. I 've got and installed those.

If it works, there's nothing to fix, so leave it alone. ;) Even if it's newer than what they have on the website. Maybe it includes some unofficial bugfixes who knows.

Bleh. I broke yet another charger for my laptop. Tomorrow I have to call asus and see why its taking a week and a half to process my order from the E-Store. Thats what I get for being lazy and ordering it from Asus themselves instead of from Gentech (Which would have gotten here the day after I ordered)...

Hey. I have had my C90s now for over a year, and I have enjoyed it very much. However, I ran into some difficulties today. After installing several Windows updates, I rebooted my computer and sent it into sleep mode after the reboot, as I was packing it up to take to school today. When I went to wake it up later on, it would not wake up. So, I rebooted it. Now when it boots, the hard drive spins, the three lights at the top flicker through once and the hard drive spins again. But, the screen stays blank: no Asus splash, no cursor...nothing. So, I tried to plug in an external monitor which acted the same. I have also tried resetting the Bios with the button on the back and ensuring that all components are securely attached to the MoBo. None of them help. Any ideas? Unfortunately my warranty was just up in Aug  ....

    Thanks in advance.

In fact, I should want to have a better C90S.

I've allready ordered (today) this RAM.

About 8600M_GT : I found a 9500M_GT, but I think it is almost the same as 8600M_GT. Do you think so ?
    Edit : Officially there's no 9500M_GT at NVIDIA's. That's rather a 9500M GS, I suppose.

    Hi,

    C90S FSB is like that : 533/800/1066 MT/s (133/200/266 MHz).

Is it possible to use a CPU with Bus Speed = 1333 MHz ?
    For instance C2D E8400 : http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLB9J
    It as a multiplier of 9.0 (9 x 333 MHz ~ 3 GHz).
In fact I plan it could run at 9 x 266 MHz ~ 2.4 GHz, as my E6600, but it should be rather less hot.

Does anyone try, or know if such a thing is possible ?

    Thanks.

The thermal design power on both is 65w. I don't think you'll see much of a heat reduction on the switch if it's even supported.

    But :
On a forum, I saw someone who pretend to have a E8400 on his C90S.
I asked him and he answered he will take screen-shots of CPUZ, or Everest.
    So, I'm waiting for...

I searched for about 40 minutes, can't find it.

What is the file that needs to be deleted so that when the screen saver returns it dosen't auto the brightness to full?

Also, whos got the record for the 512 ddr2 card?

    Thanks,

It cannot support any quad cores.

The FPS has nothing to do with your processor. It's the C90s's graphics card.

okay thanks for the quad question, but i know fps has nothing to do with cpu, i was wondering whats the best driver for the 8600m gt to get higher fps in crysis and bioshock unless around 15-20fps, medium sets and res 1280x800 is normal

I have read every page of this and I just picked up a C90S for $600, it has a E6600, and a 320gb hard drive. It has really slow ram, and I understand that I should be able to run DDR2 800 memory in this laptop, so I was thinking about getting some new memory (faster). I know that even with a 64bit OS the machine will not use the full 4gb of ram. My question is should I get 3 gb of ram or should I get a pair of 2gb modules. I have installed the 1002 bios, I hope it fixes the memory compatability issues. I read that early bios versions would not even post with 4gb, but that should now be fixed. These are my options...

    Kingston CAS 5-5-5-15
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134342 1gb
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134587 2gb

These should have the same exact timings and it should be good to go, but if you think I would be better off with 2 of the 2gb sticks I'll get them.

    Crucial
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148237 1gb
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148233 2gb
    Again same model CAS 5-5-5-15

    and last
    G-Skill
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231131 1gb
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231155 2gb

All of these should be the same timings, and I suppose that a 1gb and a 2gb stick should work good together. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I'd like to order them before the weekend.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I think either Kingston, or Crucial, or G-Skill are good brands.
All of these are CAS 5, eg timings 5-5-5-15.

But do you know that : to keep DRAM same as FSB, CAS must be at least 5 ?
If you choose low latency RAM as CAS4, DRAM will be such as 2/3 FSB.
So I think it's not worth it, it's better to be synchronous.
So you must choose CAS 5 RAM.

To increase the performance of RAM, I use MemSet.
It works under Windows. I check the results by CPU-Z and Everest from http://www.lavalys.com/.
From 5-5-5-15, my C90S is now running at 5-4-3-11.

My C90S is running with 3 Gb , I don't know if 4 Gb would be better.

    @+ :)

Thanks for the memory info. I'll just order the 3 gb. Next question, will any of the 8x00 CPU's from Intel work in this laptop? I found an 8400 for only 75 bucks. I know it is pin compatible and I would think the smaller process .45nm might allow it to run cooler. I'm aware that they both state 65W, but lower voltage means less heat, and the 8400 has a lower max speed voltage. Has anyone tried to install one of these new .45 micron chips into the C90S??

    Thanks again!

Until now quad cores have generally been ruled out of the C90S but I just spotted the upcoming Core 2 Quad Q9000. The question is will its 45tdp @ 2ghz be too much still for the C90? Any advice would be appreciated

Ive tried reading through a bunch of pages and different forums but I cant seem to find any concrete answer for these two things:

Will the C90s run more then 3 GB of memory if I install a 64 bit OS? (Mine runs on the E6600 CPU which is 64-bit OS compatible).

If it's impossible with more then 3 GB, what will work best, 2x2 GB of dual channel ram (ddr2 667 mhz) or 1+2 GB of ram non-dual channel(ddr2 667 mhz). Or just 2x1 GB of ram in dual channel.

Any answers to these questions would be greatly apreciated, but no need to get all techincal about this :p

Not sure about what limitations the C90 has on RAM size, although I do remember the subject being discussed, so maybe your search terms were too restrictive or too loose.

Don't worry about dual channel, just get the largest RAM amount that the notebook will support. Dual channel benefit is minimal in notebooks AFAIK.

C90s only use to work with a max of 3GB (1GB+2GB) and wouldn't boot with 4GB (2x2GB). A later bios update let it boot with 4GB (2x2GB), but still only recognized 3GB.

Another thing is that I am gettig ****loads of BSOD's. They've occured ever since I took it out of the box. It usually occurs from between 30 sec - 3 min after the OS is booted.

I've searched around alot trying to find out what makes this happen, as it is ONLY in Vista and Windows 7. If I run XP (which I hate) I never get BSODS. But if i boot it in Vista I get BSODS. In Vista as said before within 30 sec to 3 min after OS boot. In 7 it occurs during boot.

I've tried to check my RAM with several different apps and found no errors. I've tried to take them out and insert them back aswell. I've also read that the webcam could be the source of the problem but that wont (seemingly) work either. If I uninstall the webcam from the device manager straight after boot I wont get BSODS during that boot (can last for days). But this happens sometimes even though I don't uninstall it. If the boot survives the first 10 minutes it can run for days without BSODS...

I've also tried to note down the error codes which the BSODS give but they are totally random and if I search the codes on google I find nothing. It doesn't say if it is a specific file either. Just a BSOD IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL.

I finally had it with my C90S, the 'S' stops here!

I had all my BOSD taken care of and then it started up again with the camera, finally fixed that by installing Vista SP2 beta. Mine is now going bye, bye; back with you to Asus.

History; bad video card in the first week (RMA), discharging battery while gaming plugged in causing the C90S to crash when it was empty(cross ship brick), BSOD while booting because I had all the USB and Express ports plugged in (RMA), bad camera (RMA) and on the constant hunt for more stable drivers and new bios revisions. At a certain point you have to say its not worth it.
