The system gives a RAM overloaded error? Damn I'm getting the game this week

Also, think this one would work too? http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=016878&cid=RAM.187.844
I know it's DDR2 800 and the C90S won't run it at that speed but same price as the 667 and the 667 is not in stock anymore. It's still transcend so, logically, should it work too?

***. So, I can install this with the other 1gb stick without any problem or must I have two of the exact same sticks? I know my last old computer had to have two 128's for it to work correctly.... Thanks for the quick reply!!

An out of memory error sounds more like an application issue than anything else it must have a memory leak. I have not played it yet but you may want to google for related errors from other users.

My device settings work for the usb mouse i have plugged in, and my touchpad settings dont have any settingd for cursor speed.

The sensitivty settings changes the pressure sensor only..

Is any one able to actually change the speed of the touch pad, if s how do you do it..

Hank im not sure if you try this already, but go to control panel, double click on mouse and then under the pointer options tab change the scroll speed. The faster the scroll speed the faster your pointer will travel across the screen.

I have a small issue when I log on to my c90 (vista btw) the upper left part of the screen is unresponsive, I realized that the turbogear graphic that appears when changing states (from battery to oc mode, etc) is somehow activated but invisible. so everytime i log on i have to switch states to get rid of the turbogear icon and be able to use that part of the screen. its not the worst thing in the world but if anybody else has had this issue could you share a remedy. thanks a lot !

    edit
Im using bios 902 and all the latest asus drivers and latest turbogear version

    Hopefully someone is around!

I received the ram today, but it is only recognizing the 1gb stick of ram. Installation process:

    Unplugged everything.
    Took out Battery
    Discharged myself.
    Removed screws.
Removed top RAM and replaced with new 2gb stick.
Put everything back together and I did not get any response when I powered on other than just powering on. No loading screen.

So, I repeated the first few steps above and took out both sticks of ram and placed the 2gb in the bottom slot and the 1gb in the top slot.
Computer turned but is only seeing 1gb of ram in Bios.

    Any ideas?

Hmm. Decisions. I've placed the other 1gb back in.

    Should I:

1.) Send the Transcend back to NewEgg and have them send me another one...
2.) Send the Transcend back and have them send me a different brand?

Why not just buy the ram from GenTech? Ken will make sure you get ram that works 100% with the C90S. If you don't buy from a reseller it's kind of hit or miss. Some guys have no problems at all while others have serious problems with ram.

Would love to, but I'll try it one more time through NewEgg.

I have another...odd problem. My touchpad isn't working like it is supposed to. The scroll part of the touchpad is not responding. Also, The quick turnoff/turnon button in the top right of the keyboard does not work either. Any ideas?

Alright, I get the new RAM card (same one you have JCMS) and still no response. So, I'm going to return the RAM for a refund from NewEgg. Looks like it is time to contact GenTechPC.

I have another question in regards to updating the drivers for our video card. I have the 8600m gt, and I hear that there are new drivers. However, windows does not seem to be able to recognize those new drivers. Has anyone here successfully updated their video card drivers?

    Thanks!

    Did you try www.laptopvideo2go.com
Nvidia doesn't support Laptop Video drivers...yet. You need to d/l the .exe and the stick the modified .inf in the unpacked folder.

Also does anyone have news on any new MXM II cards in the future? When I bought mine back last August, I thought they mentioned something about x# of cards out by January 08 or something. I know of the 8600M GT w/ DDR3, but that is it.

Also (heh), I'm using the 0704 BIOS. Does anyone know if the new BIOS fixed the picky RAM problems? I am afraid to upgrade to a new BIOS only to have my laptop stop working, or is there even really a need to update my BIOS?

    Thanks!

If I remember correctly the c90 was advertised by Asus as the ultimate laptop for enthusiast, with every part easily accessible and upgradeable... What happened to the upgradeability part? They said that the gpu could be swapped later for a newer generation one... What happened to that?

SSShhhh! There are Asus Ninjas around and you do not want THIS to happen to you.

Too bad I dont have time to d/l and edit the video lol.

    They promised 5.

    Go 7700
    8600M GS
    Radeon HD 2600 (never comercialised)
    8600M GT DDR2
    8600M GT GDDR3

There is only 1 next-gen card announced that fits in MXM-II and it's the 9600M GT, a 65nm 8700M GT that doesn't have mandatory GDDR3 memory so if we get it, it probably will be crappy DDR2 thus no real upgrade.

Although I'd like to see new cards, I can't really blame Asus that much. ATI & Nnvidia MXM-IIable new cards are just refresh of the old ones, there is nothing new.

My 8600M GT stable, but hot, at 567/1450/530 this morning :). By hot I mean 100~112C with folding @home. I might try to test it next week with a soft icepack under the fans.

man this seems real hot. I remember somewhere that threshold for the GPU is around 120C. You're so dangerously close to it. Did you already try the vicious mod, etc. etc. .... + notebook cooler ? That would decrease your GPU temp by at least 10Deg.

No mod. I usually run it at 475/1350/500 and depending on its mood, itcan stay at 96, 100, 102 or no max

Sometimes it idles at 74, others at 78, others at 80 and others a 84. There's no pattern it, it's just.... like that

Okay my HDD isn't overheating. 53~58

I think I'm gonna RMA my unit + video card so I get the latest motherboard revision and hopefully a video card that doesn't overheat. If I can use OC mode maybe the fans will run....

My laptop's on a bad mood this week, gpu idling a 84....

EDIT: Now I remember why I had removed the thermal paste on my cpu.... Cooler CPU= weaker fans

Try reinstalling the ATK drivers, hotkey utility, and the Synaptics touchpad driver. You can also check for newer versions while you're at it. This combo reinstall should fix your problem.

This question has most likely been gone over before but I will ask again. I plan to upgrade the ram in my C90S; I currently have 2 x 1 GB sticks in dual channel. What’s the max ram the C90S supports (OS aside), All that I’ve read is it supports 3gb of ram, is theat3gb ram flat or like 3.5gb of ram. I'm trying to decide whether to get 3gb of ram or 4gb of ram.

so uhh... just wanted peoples opinions on the c90s

im on the market for a laptop and i specced out a c90s from gentech, and it is essentially exactly what i want for a price i can do. however i can't find anyone else selling the c90s, and it seems there are alot of problems cropping up.

basically i've been looking at thinkpads (but i dont want ati and theyre using a lower end nvidia card now? silly) and some other asus (m50), but it seems the c90s is the best for me... assuming major problems make it not worth it.

so would anyone still recommend this guy?

what im planning on getting in it:
    geforce 8600m gt 512
    e6600 2.4 ghz
    3gb ddr2 667 sodimm
    seagate momentus 200gb 7200rpm
    intel pro wireless 4965 802.11a/b/g/n
no OS, will be installing xp personally

    any comments appreciated :)

I would say go for the M50Vm simply because it's got the newer technology, otherwise if having the desktop CPU, and the higher resolution is a big thing for you then go for the C90. The C90 also has a very short battery life (approx. 1h 15m in power saving mode) so you won't be very mobile. Right now the upgradability of the C90S is uncertain since Asus hasn't released anything for it for a long while so I hope that's not a factor in your decision to go for the C90. Although there's the C90P coming out some time in the future, which might answer some questions on the C90S's upgradability.

As for your current configuration, I would go for the 320GB 5400 rpm drive. It's go more storage and generates less heat due to the lower rpm. I went to Gentech's website and it says that wireless card is sold out so you'll probably have to go with the other one. Get the Arctic Silver 5 option for the GPU as well unless you know how to apply it yourself.

Also, Gentech is where I bought mine and I've had no problems (that I didn't start myself) although I did have them put the components for me and install Vista.

    thanks for the reply :)

i will admit that 1680x1050 isthe resolution i want, i like screen real estate too much, but wuxga is just silly for anything under 17". also i dont need storage space so id rather have the 7200 rpm. and yes ill get the arctic silver as well (if i go with a c90s)

so from your input my decision right now comes down to battery life. i know ill spend most of my time plugged in, but yes an hour is killer. has anyone run linux on a c90s and gotten better battery life? also ill look into the M50Vm (or are there any M50 models with 1680x1050?)

    any other input guys?

//edit yeah the wireless card is sold out, but i emailed about availability as im not ordering this thing immediately :)

Look at the Sager NP2096 / MSI barebone at xotic PC. For $1200 you get something that's better. 9600M GT DDR2 with the sager and GDDR3 with the MSI.

Otherwise, battery life is worst on Linux from my experience. Or maybe it was just because I had the desktop effects enabled, and they do are hard on the GPU compared to aero. My gpu was idling 91C on linux, versus 77 on vista.
