    Towels,

That used to happen to me when the display driver crashed. It would underclock the GPU a lot. Are you sure this isn't the case?

I have not noticed any crashes of any kind. All I've been doing during these tests is either letting 3D Mark run, or working on a paper for class.

I rebooted the system to see if the values were still the same, and immediately after turning the computer on as soon as ATI tool loaded it would still read 169 / 100.

    :(

EDIT: Curses! Now ati tool reads my clocks as 275 / 200?! and now back to 500 / 450...

    Where it was OC'd to 550 / 500. What gives =/

    Alright, I've made SOME progress.

It seems that if I switch from power save/standard/gaming/overclocking.

    It effects the software overclock.

Since I had my system on "Gaming" when I overclocked it. Standard, OC don't respect that OC. Power saving cuts the GPU speeds in more than half still- which I'm fine with.

But when I switch from different modes back to Gaming mode where it was originally set. The software OC (Using ATI Tool) dosen't seem to come back.

    It's still at 500/450.

I'm now using the drivers that Swoley2k made. The "hybrid" drivers.

So I guess my question to all of you have have been OC'ing. How do you get your OC to "stick"? Do your different turbo gear modes disrupt your OC? And finally, does your power mode underclock still work?

In a perfect world I'd like Power save mode to function as it always has.

I'd like standard mode to function at 500 / 450.

I'd like Gaming mode to use a slightly higher OC

And OC Mode to use an even higher GPU OC.

    Has anyone successfully done this?

(Should I make a new thread discussing this?)

I would also like to know if power save underclocks the GPU on the newer drivers. And towels, you seem to be having the same problem i had, the 169 drivers always sucked on my c90s while every1 else were saying they were the best. I's still using 167.58, im gonna try other drivers soon. I don't use ATI tool but i know rivatuner reads the clocks wrong if you are using the newer drivers (or was it ddr3). As for the OC, like i said before, unless you are using the older drivers you're gonna have to flash the GPU with the newer clocks. I use nibitor 3.7 to modify my bios, there are 3 different clocks that you will change on the bios: 3d performance (the one it will usually be on) and the other 2 are the different underclocks. But I don't know if underclocking works with turbogear with my 167.58, can anyone confirm this? My rivatuner reads the clocks wrong, maybe ati tools would do it.

EDIT: Oh and I have another question, my C90S originally came with the 90W and when I have it in AC mode it draws power from the battery. It started happening after I upgraded my GPU to the ddr3. This only happens when I'm am charging my psp, using a notebook cooler, and OCing the CPU with turbogear all the same time. It's pretty annoying since I'm always doing it and i would have to eventually take off the PSP or run turbo gear in standard. The question is, will ASUS give me the 120W adapter if I ask for it?

From what i understand, the drivers have a lot to do with the GPU's clocks. For example, 169.04 for me makes full use of " powermiser technology ", wherein the GPU automatically downclocks to 169/100 when not under load. Turbogear is only responsible on the overclocking of the CPU. Maybe its a matter of matching the proper driver with ATI tools or Rivatuner. My 169.04 works with the newer version of rivatuner. Otherwise, I was experiencing the same problems as you have where Rivatuner wont let me overclock with an incompatible driver version.

When mine underclocks to 169 / 100 via Powermizer like you said, it dosen't go back to normal underload.

That's how I got the amazing 3DMark scores of 900.

How about if you use official drivers ? Do they go back to the normal clocks ? My guess is, driver issue is causing conflicts. Im not an expert though... As ive mentioned, driver 169.04 for me only works with the newer version of rivatuner ( ver.06 i think... ) If its with the older version of rivatuner, my clocks are all messed up as well.

Is anyone running the Sims 2 with 32 bit vista ultimate. How does it run?
Also is it smooth or choppy.

Don't want to sound sexist, but this is more of a mans laptop.

Here's my reasoning. My girlfriend bought the c90s barebone for me for xmas and she doesn't like using it at all. She may just be whining, but her complaints are that it's too heavy and gets really hot on her lap(don't worry, she says the same thing about me :)). She doesn't like lugging it around. My thoughts are that it's a small price to pay for the upgradability. As long as she knows what she is getting into, it's a fine piece of machinery. As for sims stuff, this laptop runs COD4 decent, so I would expect Sims to not be an issue. I recommend checking some sims specific forums to see if there is any issue with running on vista 32-bit as the hardware is not an issue.

    hi

just wanted to ask if any of you noticed how the Asus logo in the bottom part of the screen heats to the point of painful burning if you leave your finger for longer then 2 seconds.

    regards.

PS. BTW, is there a centralized community of C90S users and tips besides this (and a couple of other) post?

I have read that it will run on Vista 32bit. However most the conversations continue to say that it wont run or it did run untill they did an video update. then after they did another update it would run but some things would not work. Im just asking if someone installed it fresh out the box and if they had problems or not.

WOW COD4 huh? I have that game but mostly play source DOD. so are you running Direct X 10? and its still ok? How are the graphic settings? high med or low. Thanks

Im running under vista 32 bit, and i have no problems. However, performance is really better if ur using XP. I run vista home premium 32 bit out of the box, fresh install.

90% of current games running in Directx10 take a hit in performance. The 8800M GTX ( from what i read... ) is the only card capable of decently running under directx10. I mostly still play using directx9.... better gameplay experience.

I'm running xp as most of the games I play are not in DX10 and I don't think my card would handle it well anyway. I couldn't imagine that a Sims game is that heavy of a resource hog like most other pc games that I'm running. Does DX10 mater for a sims game? Don't know much about sims, but it can't be DX10 quality visuals, right?

No it is not DX10 quality. I guess im just hesitant in paying $2000 if.
    A. The Sims will not play.
    B. The wife will not like it.
    C. The DOD will not play.

What does everyone have for memory. Cyberpower only offers 2 gig; however i know 3 gig will work. Would it make that much of a difference with 3 gig. My guess with Vista i would be better off with 3 gig.

Is there a 8800m gtx avaliable?

Hey ! Is this for your wife ? Just a word of caution though : the c90s needs a user with an ample knowledge of laptops and pc's, as it would need a LOT of tweaking and configuration to get everything right. O

To work with 3gb for the c90... it must be COMPATIBLE. Make sure ur reseller tests it for you ( in battery mode... )

8800M gtx is not available for the c90s.

I second that... Maybe another computer will be a better choice. I believe (without direct experience with the game) that many (ASUS or otherwise) notebooks with dedicated GPUs will handle SIMS just fine.

    Hey guys,

Just got a response from ASUS notebook tech on when we can expect a GPU upgrade.

The 'official' word is that the first C90s video card upgrade release will coincide with the release of the C90p, sometime around July 2008. The tech told me the card would either be an 8700 or 9500, as they are testing both currently. He didn't know which versions of the models were being tested so specs are still forthcoming.

Lets just hope this info proves accurate. Anyone else gonna camp out for theirs? ;)

Thankyou for the info jeaggie. Personally, I was thinking it would be a 9500 because of the look of the mxm in the m50 or M51 I saw in another thread...lets all hope for the 8700 though because we all know the 9500 would be an "upgrade" not an upgrade if you know what i mean.

8700 and 9500 are not so powerful solution .... :(

I have bought this crappy note and I have to say that none of my expectation were met: it's unstable (blue screen at least once per day), not so performante almost without upgrade ....

sorry for my frastrated comment ... this were the 1600 euros worst used!

I've got two right when the desktop starts up since SP1 install. Both times after I'd been in linux just before (?), however, I've got programs launching that could very well be the culprit.

As the "C90s common problems and fixes"-thread seems to have no activity, I'll try this thread instead in hope of some replies. :)

I've just received my C90S, but there are some issues I can't seem to manage:

    1. Video overlay. I'm connecting my PC with my TV through HDMI. So, when I'm opening video files I want a small window on my PC, but always full screen on my TV. I've always done that before, but now I just can't find any options which does that. (I'm running Win XP)

    2. True DD, 5.1. When I am playing a DVD, a video file with 5.1 sound, etc, my home receiver isn't recognizing the sound as 5.1, but as normal stereo. Any suggestions?

    3. And last, which driver at laptopvideo2go is the best to use today?

Greetings from Norway, and thanks to everyone who can give me some answers! Have a nice day.

169.0x I think is what I use and its perfect, often the multi monitor options are fullly related to the drivers you use aswell. Using analog (VGA) vs Digital (HDMI or DVI) give totally different options tho, so if the way you used to do it in the past with analog you may not be able to do the same thing with a digital connection.

3rd the above recommendations. The c90 has the potential to cause hair pulling with even the most skilled pc builder/users, although mine pretty much kicks some serious arse. (Even if my GDDR3 8600 runs too hot).

Another potential C90S purchaser here....a few questions:

    1) I'm a pretty seasoned desktop PC builder who uses mostly ASUS motherboards. Does the C90S have a BIOS similar to ASUS boards that allows overclocking of the CPU? Or does that have to be done with some Windows based software? (what I'd like to do is buy a cheap E2180 and overclock it to 3GHz [10 x 300])

    2) How bulky and heavy is this notebook? I would not be buying one as a desktop replacement, but for travel purposes (so I can play games at the hotel or wherever.)

    3) How loud are the fans during normal gaming? Does anyone play WoW on theirs and can comment about how much fan noise is generated during regular play?

    Thanks for the time answering.

You can only overclock with the Asus software. There is a 10% and a 15% one, although the 15% does not work with everyone.

The weight is 6.8lbs and I don't think it's bulky, it's about 2cm thick with the lid closed.

The fans aren't that loud---if there are other sounds. If you have the game music on, no problems.

as far as bulk, the laptop fit right in my normal 15inch notebook bag that I bought in 1995! I also pack in a usb cooler...no problem. Fans are turnbine sounding but I dont notice them during the heat of strategy gaming.

I just re-installed World in Conflict and for whatever reason it's running WAY better.

Before: 1680x1050, 2xAA, 4xAF, Medium with some special effects
Now: 1680x1050, 2xAA, 4xAA, All settings maxed out except Water reflection is 512 rather than 1024 and textures are compressed, all special effects except water reflection and DX10.

I'm getting the same FPS, which is 10-25.
    The auto-settings said MAX 1440x900

Also, for the RAM: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=666620864&vpn=T533SB2G/M&manufacture=Super Talent

That's the good stick right? Micron IC

I just installed with SP1 slipstreamed and I can't install the touchpad software. It says "Please enable UAC elevation prompt". This happens with both UAC on and off.

    JCMS,

You can also use ClockGen to overclock the C90S to it's limits. See this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=205300

Yeah I know but I didn't mention it since it seems to not work well with everyone, like me.

It detects my FSB as 1333 and my CPU clock at 3.3Ghz

If you install something with UAC on then turn it off, or vice versa you run the risk of having that install go curropt because of the virtualization it uses for the files.

So make sure right away you decide wich way you want to do it and set it that way and leave it.

As for as elevated prompt that means it has to be run as an administrator. Never got the "enable UAC elevation prompt" but I have gotten things similar when I forgot to run a command prompt as administrator and tried to do things like IP config.

Okay. I got it working by going to the security registry and editing it. I might have accidently turned it off while playing with the things in Vlite
