They're all good, I went with Ken over @ Gentech and he's probably some of the best service I've received anywhere. You won't be disappointed. xoticpc and powernotebooks are both good choices also. -
i am trying to add wireless 5300.. would it be worth $35ish?
-
There are only going to be 2 wires, so you wouldn't notice much benefit from the upgrade. You can get it, but I just removed it from my order. Some people would say to get it, because it's the intel wireless and not Atheros, but I've not had any problems with Atheros.

I'll see if there is a good spot to install the 3rd antenna when I get my unit apart, its not hard to add one yourself as long as you have the space. Still even with all 3 antennas the 5300 is no faster than the 5100 as far as I know unless your wireless network supports wideband.

Ditto here...curently freezing my butt off at FoB Sharana...let me know how long it takes to get in country. It would be too much to expect you are on Sharana as I'd like to see the thing in the flesh, not that it will make a difference on my order. -

Ken at GenTechPC gets my vote. Great service, great business.

The i7 from just software blasts through 1080p 16 ref videos using only 14% CPU. It's a beast.
- For comparison, my previous was a Core 2 Duo T7500 and that used around 67% CPU. Video bitrate are between 3-7 mbps. -
Just need to get my bank transfer sorted now then settle in for the loong wait -
Really depends. If you are lefty, Razer/Steel is the way to go with their Copperhead and whatever Steel's mouse is called.
I personally have used Razer/Microsoft and Logitech. IMO the best mouse I've used still is the Logitech MX518 optical (best I've used came free with the Asus G1, G73 me cries). Get any mouse I think with 2 buttons by the thumb, those are really useful, easy to keep track and macro-able.
For mouse pad, get the Razer Goliathus ($14-19) or the Steel QcK ($9). I have the Razer ExactMat and it blows. I'm deciding between the above, I like cloth weave over these hard mat surfaces.
Best mouse deal atm is the Logitech G500 from NewEgg with Free Shipping. I myself will probably get this also. Microsoft Habu is comfortable has everything except the laser is placed around the heal of your wrist which makes for weird mouse control. I loved the MX518, so the G500 hopefully will be the same quality and feel

Guys,
I have it in my cart waiting to hit Purchase. Coming from a w90, I'm looking for something that is relatively lighter/smaller that can still play games, say ME2 at relatively high res/IQ. Also, support is a major concern for me considering the bunkum Asus put us through in the past - do you guys think they'll keep supporting this for at least a couple months. Is this the laptop for me?
The other option I'm looking at is the new higher-end Macbook Pro refresh depending on whehter it has a decent GPU or not.
Help
Update: Hah, considering Newegg just dropped the price (while it was still in my cart) to $1429, I bit Payment just went through so not a pricing error. I'm $%#-ing in. -
You are worried about Asus supporting a brand new system for the next couple of months?
-
-
Well, that is all you can really expect.
As long as there are no BIOS issues, then I am not sure there is room to ask for 9 or 10 BIOS updates. -
-
Considering you can just use the drivers from intel, realtek and use the mobility modder for ATI drivers, you don't need Asus driver support IMO.
As long as bios is fine, should be good to go. -

I usually keep my WoW folder on my desktop anyway since I've moved it so many times.
But when I get a new computer I tend to always want to do a fresh install from the disc. It just feels good. -
I am likely going to be ordering tomorrow. So excited! Just hope it'll get here before we have to move in April. -
I used to five-box World of Warcraft (might get back into it with this new laptop) and I was used to having multiple copies of WoW on the desktop for main+slaves and using symbolic links to keep hard drive load to a minimum.

I wonder if m0_ was the one who was posting videos of 5 elemental shamans in Arena 5 boxing.

I do have five level 80 elemental shamans though. -

You guys have provided tons of great information. Nice job.....
I just ordered a G73 JH-X1 from Newegg. I've purchased tons of components from them over the years and never had a problem. Fingers crossed It appears that it was in stock.
The only difference that I can see is it has 1 500GB drive, no Blu-Ray reader and no mouse/backpack.
I'm planning on purchasing an SSD soon and I couldn't decide wait for the A1 or buy.
Instant gratification won over . -
Hope you like your new machine. -
i think I better go with NewEgg, since i currently lived in UAE (Dubai) and i just send a query regarding payment Via paypal, hopefully they accept my payment with paypal (no one does).

X1 comes with 1year warranty/accidental warranty only.
-
So, please correct me if I'm wrong, the X1 is an A2 (no bluray) w/ only one 500GB HD, and an X3 is an A2 w/ two 320GB HDs? I wonder how badly this will be crippled if/when it gets to Best Buy, where I have mucho store credit to buy it with...
-
Less warranty, less HD, no BD (not a big detraction for everyone), no mouse, no laptop bag. -
X1 has 1year standard warranty.
-
I'm so weak. But, I'll be weak with an X1 tomorrow! -
-
-
I would like everyone to cancel there orders and order from newegg I mean really who needs a backpack. Also who needs a mouse come on guys also x1 sounds a lot cooler. Also 1TB HDD who needs that its so 90s.
I kid I would just like to have more people cancel so I can be for sure in the next shipment! -
You really had me going there. lol
-
I'm betting the Newegg model does come with the backpack, they just don't have the pics up yet. I bought the Seagate Momentus to go with it and am still only looking at under $1520 with one day shipping. I'd never use blu-ray, but have an extra sata drive around if I really want one.
Possible the X1 comes with the same warranty as the X2 (it definitely has the 1-year accidental). I've never seen Asus offer different warranty for a higher-spec'ed model. I've also seen NewEgg post incorrect/baseline warranty information on new items by mistake or when their not sure. Moreover, Xotic and Excalibur both list the full 1-year accidental/2-year standard for their X1. -
X1 does not come with the backpack. Check newegg website, and look at other features. For A2 they list mouse and a backpack but X1 just says 30 Day Zero Bright Dot LCD.
Still if you're on a budget around $1400 this is definitely a good deal. -

I dont think there will be any difference in the X models from NewEgg...... regarding backpack, mouse, or warranty. I'll bet these are all the same as the A models..... just as it was with the W90! NewEgg is renown for typos and incomplete info.
-
^^
Hopefully!!
Many people have ordered so i guess we'll know in a couple of days.. -
some member did 1 day shipping and the laptop was shipped today.
so we'll get more information tomorrow. -
So the $150 difference could be 1 500GB HDD?
That would be sweet.... -
-
I could take the wifes valentines present back get the $600.00 order from newegg and buy her a card hmmmmmmm.
-
I have one sitting in my cart. Part of me want them to sell out so I don't have to decide.
