    So I had to go pick it up, but it's finally arrived. Here are some quick crappy pics of the new computer:

    This is an image of the G73 next to the 15" Best Buy version of the G50VT:

    [IMG]

    Quick comparison of the screen sizes:
    [IMG]

    Small on top of large (notice the awful smudges on the old one ;) ):
    [IMG]

    Side shot:
    [IMG]

    Rear comparison:
    [IMG]

    and finally starting the install process...
    [IMG]

    I'll have more info and better pictures up hopefully some time tomorrow evening.

    Nice comparison shots there. Definitely prefer the cleaner look of the G73jh.

    Don't forget the poorer warranty as well.

    Such a huge difference. I always felt like I had to explain myself whenever I took the G50 out in public.

    The chiclet keyboard, the 1080p screen, and the sloping design of the keyboard + the heat dissipation in the G73 is day and night compared to the G50VT.

    The screen is very very nice, I might add. :D

    And one less HDD. Just feeling sorry for myself. haha

    I wouldn't trade ordering from one of the awesome resellers here, but it stings that I pre-ordered a month ago and some lucky sod can just go grab one on newegg right now!

    The design is night and day. SO much better now. I hope Asus payed those designers well and keeps them on board for more ROG models.

    The old design is so gaudy and tacky (no offense!). It looks so dated now!

    Was thinking of doing that myself. But can't find the time to play that time consuming game, as I did the raiding in the past. 4 hours, 4 nights a week, phew. Glad I don't do that anymore. Quit after downing Kil'Jaeden during BC, Lich King a massive disappointment.

    Anyways enough of my rant, glad d3ago got his G73 and liking it.

    The G50VT was never a bad screen. The biggest difference is the resolution and because of that, it's difficult to compare.

    From a viewing angle standpoint, the G73 has much better vertical viewing angles than the G50. The G50 would wash out if the screen wasn't tilted to your viewpoint just right.

    The G73 horizontal view angles are ok. I've never been concerned with horizontal angles because if I'm using the laptop, it's usually right in front of me.
    Brightness and contrast seems to be better, but it's not a huge difference.

    I'll do a legitimate comparison tomorrow regarding brightness, contrast and color.

    I've had a few good friends who weren't capable of playing in moderation either. I've been playing since open beta and can honestly say that I've never had a problem. Then again, I'm not a raider. I just 5 man and pvp on occasion. The game has evolved to really cater to the casual type of player over the past few patches.

    Most of neweggs stuff is 1 year and not the 2 year/1 year accidental handling that Asus gives.

    The x model on newegg has a 1 year warranty, among other downgrades.

    Click on manufacturer info for the G73 x model and it will show the 1 year warranty.

    You have to click on the manufacturer info button and it will show 1 year total for the x1. If you click that button on the a2, it shows 2 year total.

    All I can think about is Vicious huddled in his office pecking away at his "ultimate Asus G73 review".

    He's posting in the cpu forums about i7 stuff, so I know he is trying to really wrap his head around the architecture and how we are going to get the most out of our system. Can't wait for Mandrake to get his too and start tinkering.

    Sell the macbook. :D :D :D

    Has anyone else noticed the small circle on the left of the battery with the accompanying letters 'ANT'? Check out Ken's fly-around video at 1:24; look at it in 720p and you can clearly read it. Any clue what this could be? I've never noticed anything like it on any other laptops I've encountered.

    On the ownership standpoint; I can't wait to order this beast, my bonus came through (just enough to cover the lappy) but my financial adviser (my wife) still wants to see what our tax return will be.

    It's going to become my wife's computer, so she'll stop sequestering my laptop when I've got the gaming itch. Also it's been running windows since the day I got it home (needed the experience with MAC OS to expand my career options).

    Well after reading just about every post in the two G73 threads I put my order in with NewEgg for a next day delivery.I will also be returning a Sony F series the Nvidia 330m just doesn't cut it for games. Once I got outside in Fallout 3 my fps dropped to around 17, so back it goes. Too bad it was a nice designed laptop.Thanks for all your help in making my decision.

    It depends on who you order from. I know that at least Gentech and Xotic offer an $89 option for an additional year of ASUS's North American warranty coverage (3 years total).

    Just got my FedEx Tracking Number :D

    My G73JH A2 will be in my hands no later than 3pm tomorrow. :D

    The wife will have to deal with the kidos tomorrow night. :D

    ~~~~~~
    I am a chef instructor at a Technical College. We have all sorts of programs, including Computer Game Programming, Computer Electronics, and a great Networking Services Department. Needless to say while I wait for 3pm to arrive, I’ll be doing some "bribery" baking to get this stealth fighter prime and ready fly supersonic.
    Has anyone else ordered through Provantage? sorry I am new here, and I have tried sifting through the MULTITUDE of posts in the many threads. It's been hard for me to get in contact with them as I am currently deployed in Afghanistan so I haven't gotten a firm shipping date as of yet.
    btw thanks for the pics you guys with the laptop already, they look great! I'm so anxious, I desperately need to replace my Dell XPS M1710 as it's barely holding on out here on it's 3rd deployment with me ;)
    Hi all. Dell canceled my AW M17X-R2 because of some hardware issues and from what I'm reading in AW lounge things are pretty bad with the machine so Dell actually did me a favor. Any way, in doing some dd I found the G73. It's got some seriously exciting specs and definitely the desktop replacement I'm looking for. Two questions... I'll being doing some gaming but mostly video editing & rendering. Is the 720QM enough? Secondly, I've seen the list of resellers but what's the recommendation? I want the best service. Thanks. Peace. Pants.
    Good to see even more member getting their machines tomorrow. Soon, there will be 100 of us in here benchin', OC'n, moddin', pulling all-nighter's, getting bored, looking for the next best thing, finding the next best thing, starting the next best thread.....and the circle of life repeats itself!
    So, I put in about 4 hours of MW2 at 1080 tonight, and she never stuttered once, never seemed to slow down and generally played smoother than I have ever seen it run before. Even with flash-bangs going off, 6 or 7 baddies shooting the hell out of me, and team mates running around, there was not one hiccup. Best of all, the laptop spent (no joke) 3 hours of the 4 on my lap. The bottom never got even lightly warm. My left exhaust was running a little cooler, so I guess the GPU is on the right, and the CPU is on the left?
    I need you seasoned vets to get your lappies so you can show us how to get the most out of our G73's.
    Depending on your usage. The 820qm and 920xm will show some performance increase, but the 820qm will be minimal, and the 920xm is extremely pricey. If the i7-720qm is insufficient, you're going have to move up to the Clevo D900F.
    To be honest, the resellers in the first post are all decent and most buyers are definitely keen to recommend any of them. Would suggest you call any, or all of the resellers up and speak with them for you to decide.
