guys, ive been reading all your great info for this machine and i really eager to get this lappe but no firewire it really showstoper, the thing is.. (a bit OOT) most of the time i save all my family videocam via firewire to lappie... any u guys have another idea how i can save my vid recording to this beast beside using firewire?

USB? Memory card drive?

I'm out here, too many little issues. Final straw was no Raid controller when two hard drives are sitting in the system. Not enough ports... And the idea that you shouldn't run this system with cover closed because air is being sucked in through keyboard. I got the Blue Ray and if playing back through HDMI I would definitely want to close cover? I had several laptops and rarely power them off, I just close the cover???
-
-
OK... then don't buy it. Whining about it isn't going to change anything.
-
-
Take a look at the M17xR2 with a 720 and a single 4870. Should be able to get a config comparable in price. -
Curious where all the "don't close the cover" posts are coming from. Are we assuming this off of one person's battle with a blanket or is there something from ASUS I'm missing? I'll be using mine with HDMI out on occasion to play BD's.

Just one addition though, it would seem that the G73jh also has an intake at the bottom, so leaving the bottom clear would be a plus as well.

It's good to note that since I want to watch blu-ray on the lappie as well, and I'll assumably have to shut it to some degree to comply with HDCP and only outputting to one monitor, no?
-
Unless the owner's manual states that you can't use it with the lid down, I'd go ahead and do it. If you cook something, they have to cover it.
-
I am not saying the G73 will overheat if you do this, but if it does because of purposely covering the ventilation, I see no reason why Asus should fix it for you after the 1 year accidental is over. -
Agh, no! Do not restart that argument! I'm sorry I brought up blanket-gate! (tm)
I was more curious about the cover being down, and I'm sure that's what Hoosier was referring to. -
The wait is almost over guys! -
-
It's Not over until someones says "Well... I am not Crook" and finally walks out with a big smile on their face -
If it is unsafe to use the laptop with the lid closed, it should be stated in the manual. If you don't think that is reasonable, then you're the stupid one. -
-
Can't you just put something over the keyboard/screen and close it if needed? I am sure something can protect it?
-
Should be exported 'over there' -
-
Like a blanket? -
-
LOL - classic.

-
Hey guys, sorry to be a wet blanet but let's stay on topic here.
To summarise, it is a bad idea to use this laptop with the lid closed. Let's move on to more interesting things - the gaming performance! -
-
Would be interesting to see how this machine measures up to more games. I am interested in Flight Simulator X -
Hello All!
I've never liked the appearance of Windows XP, Vista, and Seven. I've always liked minimal/thin bar visual styles.
I found it. It's called ProjectX. Ported to Windows 7 by kAtz93 on DeviantArt. He didn't have Windows 7 64 support, someone ported that to 64. And neither person who created provided any directions. So I combined them and easy directions to follow.
Download at your own risk. I use ESET Smart Security. Scanned and nothing found.

Directions. Unzip.
- In the uxtheme folder is uxtheme patch. Install it by patching all 3 files. It will ask to restart, do it later.
- In the theme folder you will see a file and a folder with the visual style's name. Copy both and paste into C:\Windows\Resources\Themes.
- In the systems files folder you will see Add Take Ownership Option. Run that registry file.
- In C:\Windows find explorer.exe. Right click and take ownership. Then change the file name to explorer.exe_bak or whatever.
- Copy the explorer.exe from the systems files folder and copy it into C:\Windows.
- Restart. Right click desktop to personalize Windows. Choose ProjectX.
Looks awesome huh?

I just ordered the A2 from xoticpc! Can't wait! Although, I know I'm in the back of the line. I'll probably have to wait until March. I think I'll shoot them an email and ask when I can expect to see it.

I saw that a lot of people were recommending xcaliberpc and gentech. The main reaosn I chose xotic is because they;re not in california haha. Our sales tax here is...high.

-
maelstromz, you're making me feel like I waited for nothing
-
I didnt need the bluray so the a2 was a super nice deal for me... and dont worry about the wait Kim it will be way worth it in the end, not that it matters anymore but ill post some pics to try and help you with your wait!

I am going to forgo the thermal compound upgrade just to smooth things along for Justin. I don't want to add to the load. Now, for anyone that upgraded their CPU, that's another story. I am safe to assume that the GPU is also this hard to get to?
-
-
Woo hi-five Kim! Now were pew pew stealth fighters together!
-
I'm not receiving it tomorrow though, haha
I HATE YOU -
-
Lol this seriously has to be hell on the resellers.
Like if 5 people ordered the same day, and only 4 were available. -

Pm's are good, but I find a good old fashioned phone call is the way to go.
