Great, the X1 listed on Newegg is on Engadget. Be alarmed that it may sell out quickly now.

    hmm well PM your offer??
although, i have a feeling it might be very unaffordable
i only asked coz a lot of people going in for the X1 said they didnt need the bag.
I on the other hand, definitely need a bag as i'm having it brought over from the US by a friend, so he'd need a bag to carry it on the flight.
It would be awesome if i could get a matching bag..
Else, probably gonna go in for this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834995847
I relly wanted one of these actually, but dont want some other laptop vendor's crappy logo on my stealth bomber;s hanger! esp not failienware! :p

This i really like coz of the plain looks but probably wont fit the g73

    Opinions or other suggestions?

Another point is the G73jh is a relatively large 17.3" model, and some 17" bags might not fit.

The Slappa Matrix models should fit, since my D901C was not a issue.

Im not shocked there was no bag and mouse or a single year warranty ... the machine started out at $1429.00 and i knew they were going to give you less then just one harddrive and charge $170.00 difference then the A1.... If you think about it though even the Bag mouse and HD arent worth that so the lesser warranty is where the rest of that amount ends up...

They will, only to incur a substantial rip-off off the customer. A1 will always remain the best value for money option. The only thing that should be considered is whether the deficit between the amount that'll take to upgrade the X1 to the A1 level (Warranty, HDD, BluRay) and the price of the A1 itself is worth getting your hands on the notebook almost 3 weeks earlier than the A1.

I agree. That's why I would rather wait for A1. If a better laptop pops out by the time it's ready to ship, I will cancel the G73JH and change to another laptop. :D

    Resellers got their stock already.

Newegg might be getting their own shipment later though. Or it just may be a typo. In this case I would be inclined to think it's a seperate shipment or a typo because Donald or Ken would not blatantly lie to us

they are to good of guys to do something like that

    wahhhh I want my A1 with Blu-Ray , x2 500 GB, accessories, and 2 year warranty :(

X1 is nice and all but by the time I upgrade the warranty, pay for shipping , and buy a mouse its gonna end up being around the same price. Plus the Gentech rep I spoke with was very polite and helpful( outside of being off on the ETA by about 3 weeks).... this is gonna be a tough decision. Im definately gonna give Gentech a call before I pull the trigger on the X1

5870 in x-fire....-drool-. Don't think I'd be able to afford the AlienWare take on that right now. The successor, to the W90 if at is certainly going to tug at my heart strings...

Yeah, well the uncertainty of the X-1 warranty has me back out of the game AGAIN! I found this in the fine print:

"ASUS reserves the right to exclude certain SKUs; check with your retailer to confirm coverage for specific models."

Of course NewEgg can not be reached at this hour, so I cancelled my entire order online, before loosing that window of opportunity.

Last I checked to upgrade the Alienware or Sager or even the MSI to specs with Asus with the screen (LED is an alienware $150 upgrade for example), Windows 7 (A Sager upgrade), Ram (Upgrade on all 3), HDD (Upgrade all 3), no bag or mouse (some like myself do not have a backpack large enough, so this was a great addition), the cost gets close to $3,000 or more.

So for those who cannot afford this like myself (grad students, for others personal reasos), I can assure you the G73 will likely remain the best deal. If MSI was not able to price match the Asus G73, I highly doubt Sager will be able to even if they release a HD5870. But then I don't recall seeing an ATi Clevo in a long (I'm in the camp that suspects Nvidia paid them off, the intel strategy for win).
    - Even if the HD5870 Mobile is not as powerful as the desktop counterpart, the HD5870 for now is the flagship chip from ATi. That alone will make it a premium item I think. I have not heard of release plan for a Mobile HD5970 yet, but maybe they will. Did they ever release a Mobile 4970? I don't remember seeing it (memory bandwidth, power, temps, shader cores I think will limit this to the HD5870 for now).

For those who can afford it, and if I could do it also, I still wouldn't do it. The increase performance, and better cooling system means the Alienware/Sager/Clevo will be larger and louder. That defeats the point of laptop, that's where I say screw it, I'm building a desktop.

But good luck in making your decisions. If you got the cash, then go for the dual HD5870s! And I along with others will read this forum with envy of your laptop.

Also for those wondering about shipping.

I am not sure if Asus does this, but I know many companies do not operate during the ENTIRE week of Chinese New Years. I would not be surprised if Asus does this as it is a common practice. China business almost shuts down for a week. No delivery, no nothing.
    - Meaning if they can't get the shipping out before Friday, could be delayed a week. Someone may want to verify this if Asus does this. I know I've bought audio gear from China and this was an issue.

Yes, I read this, but I wanted to confirm directly with Asus..... and they told me just as I found in the fine print of their warranty...... to contact the retailer regarding specific SKU's. Anyhow, unable to contact NewEgg, I just cancelled my entire order online before it elevated to 'Packaging' or 'Shipped' status.

I will contact NewEgg when their offices open, and see if their listing is a typo, or if indeed, this SKU has been short-changed on the warranty. The loss of the backpack and mouse are no biggie to me, but cutting the warranty in half..... THIS chaps my butt!

I'll put up the particulars on Friday night or Saturday morning.

XoticPC has added G73JH-A1 ($1645) and G73JH-A2 ($1549) to their site.
But I could not figure out the difference.
Many were saying the difference is on warranty, but seems both have same warranty.

    A1: http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha1-order-p-2731.html
    A2: http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha2-order-p-2761.html

    Edit:
Oh ! I got the difference in blue-ray reader. But again varies in price :(
A1 has 4x BR reader and if you downgrade to dvd writer it gives you $96 where as if you will add 2x BR reader to A2 you have to add $115 !!! This logic is beyond my understanding :(

My X1 is out for delivery so I'll probably get it today unless this snow continues (in NYC) :( I'll check the warranty and post back once it's in hand.

I'll also be installing an additional HD and will post how that goes too.

You anywhere near Shrewsbury? I'm supposed to visit family up there this weekend, but not sure if that's going to happen now... maybe just as well -- time to spend with my new toy :)

This is a little bit after the fact (I keep up with the board through the daily email reports) but I have to have at least a 2 year warranty because my last laptop's motherboard fried 2 days after the warranty was up so besides ASUS great ratings for reliability and quality the warranty was one of the biggest draws for me buying this system.

    EW!

Mine's on the truck for delivery as of this morning! :) Hope you get yours soon. Looks like I have to go bag shopping though. There was a link in one of these threads last week where someone posted some neat backpacks that could also carry consoles (360, PS3). I can't remember the name. Anyone have any idea? They were black and about $75.

*edit* There's also the potential of extending the warranty through Newegg- 2 years for $99.
