Well, I use zonealarm, have antivirus, and nothing comes up on antivirus scans or malwarebytes scans. I am pretty sure it is not a virus or malware. I flashed the bios to the newest version, and it hasn't done it since, but if it happens again I am going to try a fresh install of Windows 7. Anyone happen to know if Asus lets you download an image of the reinstall disk or anything? I don't believe the computer came with hard copy disks.

    hello my G72GX brotherhood,
I have been experiencing BSOD alot in the past 3 weeks, it used to give me an error related to "win32k.sys" (If i remember correctly :p ), thats why i rebooted my windows hoping it will be gone, but i still get the damn BSOD, sometimes the error is something like "non-page(or pad)-fault-area".
sometime it says "bad-pool-header" or something like that.
Also tried updating the GPU driver, didnt help :/

So kinda need some help from people who actually have an idea of whats going on unlike me :/

    Intel q9000
    GTX260m

    Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow G72ers. I have been scouring the net and can not find a solution to my problem. I find one time work arounds and simple things I have already tried, so now I must turn to the power of the G72 nation. My G72 did not come with a Bluetooth, (best buy) so I bought a dongle. I have been trying to pair it with my phone with no success. The phone sees the laptop, and the dongle shows up in "My Computer", but it refuses to recognize the smartphone or any other phone for that matter. Yes I have put the phone in discover mode. BTW I'm thinking of getting bluetooth headphones, but if the laptop wont recognize it, I wont get them. What say ye?

depends on what smartphone you have and what restrictions your carrier has put on the smartphone in terms of recognizing a device other than a headset. sometimes carriers will block these bluetooth connections in an attempt to stop tethering for data.

I have Bluetooth paired up with my phone, it seemed messy at the time, here's what I remember.
Right click on the Bluetooth icon and select "allow a device to connect".
Download and install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
Download and install Lenovo Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software.

There is a post here in the Asus forum on how to decrapify the windows 7 install. You can try installing again from the disk if you'd like too. I have not had any performance issues with my laptop and I have to say, a lot of that has to do with using Dox's video drivers. I believe I documented how to install that driver in a prior post here.

    Good luck!

Hello everyone. I am curious concerning whether should I update my video driver and bios.

    Video: 8.15.11.8619
    Bios: 0401

Also I am having lags out of the blue when playing decent games, it lags for a bout one minute or two and then goes normal for sometime (5-10 minutes)...is my video card overheating? It hits 95 Celsius sometimes. I wonder if I should buy a external cooler...

    Mainboard: Asus G72GX
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2533MHz
    RAM: 6GB DDR2
    Video Card: GeForce GTX 260M
    HD: 500GB 5400 RPM

    Thanks for the atention :)

Sorry it took so long to respond, crazy work schedule. I have a Windows Phone, 6.5, Verizon HTC Ozone. The phone sees the laptop, so its not the phone, its the laptop that wont recognize the phone. Is there some software for the laptop that I'm missing?

I bought my wife the G72GX last year for our anniversary, and she's loved it. Until lately - the wireless card would be 'inactive' or whatever anytime she closed the lid to suspend, and we'd have to go through the Fn-F2, double-clicking the wireless utility icon by the clock, double-click the icon that comes up briefly in the middle bottom of the screen to turn the wireless on, then reconnect. I tried disabling the 'turn off wireless when suspend' option but it doesn't seem to do anything. We've been doing this for several weeks, but recently even this stopped working. Now, it just says there are no wireless networks available, even though I know there are, other wireless devices work fine, etc. I've updated the bios, disabled the bluetooth in the bios, updated the drivers in Windows (tried both the Microsoft and Asus/Atheros drivers), lathered, rinsed, repeated.....and it still doesn't work.

Any ideas how I can get this working reliably? Thanks.....

(and of course we have the fps slowdown issue, also, but I believe that, like others, is a temp issue, as she mostly keeps the laptop sitting on her lap when using it).

95 Celsius is hot and most likely your problem with lagging. An external cooler may help a little, but I'd first try to clean the dust out of the machine. Take the bottom panel off and blow out the fan with compressed air. I had the same problem a few months ago and nothing fixed the problem until I cleaned out the dust. It didn't even have a lot of dust inside, but was enough to slow the fan down and decrease the cooling. Also, make sure the laptop has breathing room underneath when in use, (ie. Not sitting the laptop on a rug or bed) that is if you aren't already doing so.

    Good Luck!

The max RAM is 12GB (see sig). The best Core2 Duo out there is probably the best CPU you can use, the X9100 or the T9900. They are essentially the same processor but the X9100 has an unlocked multiplier. I would personally recommend the T9900 if you don't want to overclock.

I found a video somewhere, I wish I could remember where now, but this laptop tech was taking apart a G71 (Seemed identical inside to the G72) and he was frustrated at removing the video card and cooler. He said it can not be done without disassembling the entire laptop and that it was a poor and silly design. You can easily install some thermal compound on the CPU and on the aluminum VRAM heatsink but anything beyond that will require some serious effort.

I'm having more severe issues with my wireless, but they started with this symptom. When that icon at the bottom middle of the screen appears briefly, you need to double-click it to 'turn on' the wifi. As you know, it only appears briefly, so you have to be quick.

by the way, I installed Mandriva linux side-by-side with win7 on this laptop, and under mandriva, the internal wifi works flawlessly, so the problem is clearly some conflict with windows 7, drivers, etc. Any ideas? Please? 'Pretty please with sugar on top'? :D

since i got my new g72, ive been spending hours looking for tweaks, researching for info on which useless processes and services i can shut down, researching which drivers are best, and basically driving my self crazy trying to get the most performance out of this dang laptop!

in reality how much of a performance gain will all this yeild? am i wasting my time?

currently ive got 55 process running, using nvidias latest drivers, not overclocked, and with 3dmark06 im scoring a benchmark of around 10191 .

just to satisfy my curiosity, what is everyone else scoring??

this might help me realize im wasting my time, or confirm my stubbornness hasnt gone to spoils.

    thanks so much

I did a fresh 64bit win7 install and my 260M GTX never clocks down even when just sitting on the windows desktop. Aren't these video cards supposed to lower their speed when you aren't doing graphically intensive things? Mine always sits at 500/800 no matter what. The temps stay warm and the fan stays spinning audibly.

Is there a reason my video card doesn't automatically clock down for windows?

    Thanks.

BTW, I'm running the most recent drivers from nVidia 125.721

    Hi guys...

I know that this problem has been asked here and I do searched for a answer but I couldn't find anything that would resolve my problem...

I have a G72GX RBBX09 and out of the blue my wireless network isn't working anymore...
I tried everything...well actually not everything...I updated my BIOS, but updating my aetheros driver was not possible 'cause I keep getting this message error that the Aetheros Install Wizard can't copy the file from Local\temp\... to Windows\temp\temp

I don't know if I accidentally uninstalled Asus Wireless Console 3, because I can't find it in system tray and when I try to reinstall it I get this error that the program can't be installed and I have to close it to try again...

As far as the wireless switch problem i tried everything...turn it off/on, before/after restart/shut down my computer and/or disabling the wireless adapter, my FN + F2 doesn't seem to work as well...

please I really need some help!!!

Hey everyone. I've been a proud owner of an Asus G72GX-RBBX09 that I bought at Best Buy around 5 months ago.

I've been experiencing some problems with it as of late. When I'm watching videos or playing games, or even just letting the laptop idle on the desktop, once in a while the screen goes all white and starts flashing with a sort of vertical pattern (still different shades of white though). It doesn't seem to be related to any task I'm doing on the laptop, it's pretty random. The problem corrects itself easily when I move the screen like I'm going to close it or something, but it's kind of a pest.

Additionally, when I have the laptop on battery I like to set my brightness down a little bit because I usually only use it on battery during the nighttime. After a while, the screen's brightness starts to flicker, like the backlight is having problems or maybe the switch inside of the laptop is faulty when varying screen brightness. I'm not sure if it has to do anything with the laptop using battery at all, but the problem does seem to correct it for a short time when I move the screen as I do with the white screen error I mentioned above.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had these problems or if it's a known issue with the laptop, and if anyone might know how I can fix it. I'm experienced with electronics and I'm a Fire Controlman in the Navy, so if it's a problem I can fix myself I'd really like to avoid shipping it to Asus.

Thanks a lot for any help!

EDIT: I kept the screen on a lower brightness setting on the AC adapter the whole time I wrote this message and it didn't seem to flicker at all.

I have neither my GPU or CPU overclocked. All I ever overclocked was the GPU a while back, but it seemed to reset the stock settings every time I restarted my computer. And I only overclocked the GPU to the settings that the factory downgrades the GPU from.

I am so happy with the way mine is running right now. I flashed the video bios with a bios I put together consisting of lower clocks in Windows and accelerated clocks in games, I lowered voltages across the board, installed Shin-Etsu compound on all heatsinks and cut a 40mm hole directly beneath the fan to let in cool air. (I installed a 40mm filter to keep the dust out.) It runs fast, stable and most importantly, nice and cool. IMHO it runs so well right now that this is the way it should have shipped.

I also had a similar problem with the wireless when i updated the bios and i think its something to to with the new drivers. When i updated the wireless drivers, i couldn't get the wireless adapter to start. So i rolled back the drivers to the stock windows 7 driver and now it works fine.

Does anyone know what the highest possible CPU clock on the quad core version can get to? I'm stuck on 2.25GHz. (Well I kind of suck at overclocking, but whatever).

Can you share what voltages are you using with your GPU for 2D? I'm using 0.8V but I read that 0.75V will not be a problem. The problem is that Nibitor shows me 0.8V as the lowest I can go.

can you pls tell me if Turbogear Overclocking Mode is available with a X9100/T9900 in an ASUS G72GX?
I'm interested, because possibly I get a replacement by ASUS for my G71GX with a T9600.
I had a T9900 installed in my G71GX and with it Turbogear Overclocking Mode was not available.

I received a refurb from Newegg for $769 with free shipping. It was in absolutely immaculate shape with zero issues. As far as I know it was new. it was factory packed in a carton with all the items wrapped as they came from the factory. I was concerned before I got it because I'd heard some stories about refurbs but the price was too low to pass up. I did a clean Win7 install and it's really a fantastic computer. I do serious gaming on it probably 35+ hours a week and it's perfect for it. Good luck with yours.

I saw the 769 deal on newegg but they don't ship to the caribbean :(
829 with discounted shipping to the caribbean isn't bad though. I heard stories about refurbs so I was kind of wary too, but reviews of this laptop refurbed were pretty good so I went for it.
The refurbs come with the win7 disk so I can clean install too right? I hate all the crapware that comes on laptops :\

It comes with some worthless disk that, really, I have no idea what it's good for.

Your going to want to get a Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium DVD disk. I have one of my own but if you don't then you will need to download one. It's perfectly legal, you download an ISO and burn your own DVD of Windows 7. Search, you'll find it. You can use any Windows 7 64 bit disk.

    Then you have two choices.

1.) Get an activation backup/restore program from the web. You back up your activation, do a Windows install and then restore your activation using the program.

2.) Just install Windows as normal and use the activation key on the sticker beneath your laptop.

I installed a SSD when I did mine but if I was using the factory 500GB drive I would have deleted all partitions and made one big one. The small partition is just for the Asus restore DVD you can create which I will never use in my lifetime.

I was using my 500gb drive for a data drive in the G72 but I later switched it out for a faster 7200rpm drive that came around to me.

It runs sooooo much better after a clean install of Windows with all the proper tweaks and drivers installed. No BS crap loading up when Windows starts. IMO it's a must to do it this way if you want the most of your computer. I have none of the issues people are claiming like WIFI that goes out and sleep issues. Everything just works right.
