Striker and/or Bibsybob, could you give us an indication as to fan noise when benchmarking? Striker's probably catching up on his gaming as I type but sometime when they're at full speed, would be nice to get your thoughts on volume :)

I would give it a little time before declaring "total disappointment". So far only one W90 has been benched and that was arguably on a very shaky system at best.

I would guess once the initial pains are over and people can actually get to b'marking instead of preventing system crashes you will see improved numbers likely tipping towards the much anticipated/promised 15k.

I wouldn't be surprised with the CPU in turbo and the GPU's OC'd to the max. allowed by ATI (the 4850 in the MSI GT725 was cap'd so I'm thinking the same will be true here) that the W90 will be pushing into the 16k's if not into the 17k's with or without some decent ATI drivers.

Until we get more units in the hands of NBR folks I would leave 'Chicken Little' at home.

Agreed, if A single 4850+P9500 can get about 10500 in mark06, there is definately something not right here.

PCtuning.cz tested one with a T9600 two weeks ago; it scored 14122 3Dmark06. They did a full test with lots of games and benchmark utilities.

Out of the box even 14k is darn nice and its always a good thing that down the road you can toss in a Quad for some truly impressive performance . I want to grab one of these things Soo badly but i know i would want a new CPU asap and thats another 700-900 bucks :).

I would try 06+Vantage then i would toss on crysis and GTA4 . Those would be my personal choices to let me know the rig is up to my standards and then start installing all the other stuff i had :).

Planned on 06/Vantage as well :)

So is this laptop worth getting with the bad reviews it's had? Also it's out of stock on newegg's site and they have no clue when it will be in stock again. Can't buy it anywhere else either. :(

Well, everytime I try to run 3dmark06, it graphically glitches out during the firefly forest test, so apparently something is still up. I have to hard reboot when that happens, hope it's just a problem with drivers.

Ya Bibsy some of the issues you have come across could mean you need to send it back . The only thing i could think of when you mentioned the lines on the screen or it going black were maybe the connection to the videocard from the monitor is loose . It happened on many a laptop in the past .

So we should use the F9 option to

    1. revert everything back to stable factory default image
    2. install all authorized asus drivers

and thats it ??? we should have an error free and stable system ???

I think you should only be using the F9 option if your system turns out to be unstable.

Although I am not sure what harm would be done by just doing it out of the box because its not like you will be blowing up any personal stuff you added-on.

However by not doing it out of the box it will allow for a better idea how widespread the issue really is. If we all just reimage from the start then it would be hard to tell.

OK, all I can say is WOW! this thing feels like quality.

    Working through windows setup atm.
I am super impressed at first impression.
The bag is a lot better quality than the pictures make it look.

For those interested in upgrading the Hard Drives, you might want to consider this as an option. Seagate makes a 7200prm 500GB drive called the

    "Seagate Momentus (ST9500420AS) 500GB 7200.4 SATA 7200RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" Laptop HDD"

Looks like the exact same specs as the 320GB drive they include, just larger. Might be good as a second drive.

I currently use an Asus M70VM-C1 and threw in two 320GB 7200rpm drives and it just isn't enough. These 500GB drives would remove the need to carry external Hard Drives.

    Just a thought.

Oh and thanks for the advice -=$tR|k3r=-, I will do that now.

Yeah, the picture does make it seem that way.

I will post more side by side pics in a bit.
I will align them better and take different angles.

The m15x is a bit bulkier than most 15"'s anyway.

Also, should i install the ssd before i actually turn the w90 on for the first time?
