Hihi..same as me..I too put the speakers as one of my top priorities when choosing a laptop

As time goes by,your laptop performance will drop when compare it to latest technology...

But,great speakers and excellent exterior finish will make the laptop as 'evergreen'...

All in all..it is my own opinion..and as my principle... :D

well, I'm not reliable for that, but for now I am @ 11808 in 3DMark06,
@6322 in Vantage but in Win7!
I'm about @ 26.7 in Crysis warhead ambush 1440*990 in WinXP,
HAWX demo I didn't registered frames but I usually see over 60, 120fps sometimes..

    Just for information
Opening the old magz again, and found out a benchmark on 4870X2 desktop version (Brand Powercolor)
The result 3Dmark 06 score at 1280X1024 (noAA noAF)
    16838
    The result at 2048X1536 (4AA 16AF)
    13741
The proc they use is Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800

looking at Asus W90Vp mark again, the difference is not that much, especially with that clock speed and it is mobility
BTW, the core clock is 750mhz and Mem clock is 3600 with 2GB of gDDR5 mem
just wait till it become stable, and it will metaphor into beast
    CMIIW

p.s: and the review also state that it is power hungry and very hot!!!

To be honest I don't know if I really want to spend the extra money on the A1 they are selling. Don't need the blu ray unless it is a burner which it doesn't look like it is. And the quad core I am still up in the air about.

    Which games? WIC and Crysis?

It'll take a while though, I need to d/l it on my N80 and then transfer it to my D901C.

This thread seems to be the place to get banned recently, haha. I'm almost scared to post! :)

But is there still no indication of what the new BIOS revision does? Hopefully it's helping fix some of the important stuff. I should tell Bcool who bought mine- though I think he reads this thread to keep up. Hopefully he sees this.

its gettin way to nice for me here tbh :p

so what comes to my mind: are you realy satisfied with the results of asus w90vp?

i mean: alienware m17 gets with a lil oc-ing over 16k 3dmark06. even the basic cpu 8400 ootb gets +11k 3dmark. and this is with the 2x3870 gpus!!

ati arouse expectations for the mobile 4870 by saying, it would perform up to 1.8 times better then the 3870.

i was thinking, this asus with a single 4870 would be around 15k and with 2x cf 4870 would get at least 17k out of the box. a nice qx9300 and a bit tweaking and 20k is possible.

so i am a bit disappointed by the results, ive seen so far. are you satisfied?

Well, with the QX9300, 20k has been hit.
We haven't even gotten to fully test the waters yet, there really is only one video driver, no real Overclocks have been done... I'd wait before condemning this thing...

Just so we're on the same page, what settings for WIC/Crysis.

I'll be running WIC at 1920 x 1080 with max settings to match the W90vp's resolution.

    WIC results were
    1st run
    Minimum: 6
    Max: 77
    Average: 33.

    2nd run
    Minimum: 6
    Max: 77
    Average: 35

    3rd run
    Minimum: 12
    Maximum: 76
    Average: 35

I think there's something wrong with my rig and WIC, the videos at the start were running a bit choppy. Rig is stock, no overclock of GPU, running HW Monitor in background. Using Nvidia's drivers, either 179.28 or 179.48.

    Crysis runs:

Non-existent. Couldn't find the game after running the installer. Go figure.

Hey, consider that I made a custom config wich is HIGH/VERY HIGH with Pom,object motion blur, sunrays and so on..
I reran the test: 26.8fps..let's say 27fps..I don't think it is bad! However I am looking to this thread bacause I want to see what REALLY an M98 can do in order to evaluate and eventually buy it!!

Crysis is going to be a slightly prejudice benchmark for this computer. I to this day never got CrossFireX to work on my dual 4850's on my desktop. It just wont scale like SLI will and its a Nvidia endorsed game so thats your reason why most probably.

You will probably get almost the same results if you turn off crossfire and run Crysis with 1 card.

once again just giving some updates.

    windows xp 32bit:
was stable at first, after a week
    video driver crash's (screen blanks)

    vista 64bit (preinstall)
    freezing randomly

    vista 64bit from hdd reinstall/recover)
    freezing randomly

    vista 64bit from asus dvd
    freezing randomly

    windows xp 64bit
no freezing, no problems, zero freezeups using latest drivers from ati's website

given that xp 64 has zero stability problems, id suspect a driver issue as apposed to a bios issue or faulty hardware.

in ALL the os's with problems, they started with installing the video drivers.
now that im confident with xp64bit being stable, im going to run benchies, ill report back with more info :)

Just got off the phone with Asus, here's the news.

First, if anyone cares, I got my RMA and will be sending it out tomorrow. More importantly, they are NOT automatically sending replacements out. The mysterious man who is working on this personally (forgot again to ask his name) told me they test out the system for software or hardware problems. If they determine it's hardware, they will replace that component, not the whole system.

Second, he told me the following. He received a w90 from a customer and they tested it. They installed a different image of the os, different to the one shipped. He claims, although I am a bit skeptical, that the system ran fine, no lockups. 3dmark, everest, and other benchmarks ran fine, but I informed him that benchmarks ran fine for me as well, but I still could not get any game to run. He later admitted they haven't tested games (DOH!). Obviously, I told him the games I was having trouble with, CoD4, Mass Effect, and everything else.

I asked him to do the following. Verify that a wide variety of games run without issue. Do not end the pursuit for new drivers. Provide a copy of this mystery image for owners to restore from. Go through different BIOSs or settings to check for a BIOS issue (he didn't seem to know there was a different BIOS on new units that seem more stable). Hopefully, he will go through those tests to absolutely confirm games will run stable.

Additionally, I was told when they receive the units, he personally along with a technician test the computer. They test the pre-installed image, and then they test with theirs. I think it's important to stress that right now they are not willing to send replacement units. I expressed my interest for a complete replacement because of the loud hard drive issue and squealing headphone jack issue. I was told he couldn't give me an answer until he tests it personally.

I hope that clears up any confusion. Keep calling them everyone!

The hardware hasn't changed. Still the same 4870s, GDDR3. But from what I gather from these posts, the main bios has in fact changed. My unit is gone, so I cannot compare. I'm sure some other owners can clarify.

Yea, I did. Tried reinstalling a few times too. The installer detects that it's been installed, since it offers to fix it, but I don't see it anywhere.

    I try. ;)

Going to uninstall, reboot and give it a shot again.

Truth, In Houston you have to look far and wide for good Korean food, but if you take the trip to San Antonio (with somewhere in the ballpark of FOUR different military bases), Korean food is everywhere.

(Until the RMA's get returned, I propose this thread's sole concern be tasty, tasty, Asian food!)
