My W90 from Newegg has arrived. I turned it on and set it up, No lock-ups. Set up wireless LAN and played around for an hour had no problems.
For those who asked BIOS is:
ASUS BIOS Version 0502 Date 02/25/09
EC Firmware WNB-0504
I will try 3dmark06 in a bit.

And... *CONGRATS* -

So does having read all 1837 posts and EVERY BENCHMARK that's been posted in the 184 pages this thread is up to give us the right to punch noseguard20 on sight? I don't know about you but I feel like it does!!!
-
-
now we can get somewhere on this. -
Ya thanks for the info Paradyne64 + rep
-
-
More than I am- I never saw the guy before but WOW he comes off like a jerk.
Oh, and take a peak back at the DMC4 benches so you can quit whining.
Also, I'd never even consider giving moderator status to someone who's just going to abuse it bad. If you were to become one and just start banning us for "not giving you benchmarks" I'd rather not be here anyway. -
Lol. point made -
nope striker. and i was looking...there has got to be someone on with a w90.
everyone with a w90 anything...post your bios version.
thanks. -
Pssst, he just got wiped.
By the way, John, I believe you have your NBR account set to show pages of 50 posts or more? page 7 for you may not be the same page for others. -

I permanently banned user "noseguard20", thanks for reporting them. People don't learn. Have a good day.
-
PS: This is why we have the red triangular button on the left side of your post, people. -
yeah, huh? lol
page 7 is like page 30 for some people....lol
he was probably trying to read it when he disappeared...wonder if he seen any benchmarks....lol
probably not, chaz was pretty quick that time. -
-
Yea, I got tired of him and reported him multiple times. -
waiting for people to post..the last noted bios was a vga bios

that Cathy is serious about her ati cards
edit:
and as of today, a single 4850m is now beating a single 9800m gtx card at vantagemark gpu scoring
3dmark vantage
9800m=5736 gpu
4850m=5901 gpu -
Well mine has shipped... so I should have it in a day or two.
And yes, I'm doing my happy dance! -

electrosoft...what bag are you using for your dragon?

Yep, the irony indeed.
I'll post here too when I purchased my Clevo D900F to add the irony. LOL.
Kidding bro... -
Here are some benchmarks. Since I also have a Dell M1730 X9000 cpu with two nividia 8800M's in SLI I ran the same tests on it. M1730 is running Vista 32.
With the W90 I did not change anything or remove or add any software on the computer so these benchmarks are right out of the box.
3dmark06
W90 13393
M1730 (CPU @2.8) 12467 (video cards at default settings)
(CPU @3.4) 14373 (video cards at default settings)
I did not want to mess with turbo settings on the W90 yet.
HAWX demo
W90 High FPS 107
Avg FPS 50
M1730 High FPS 178
Avg FPS 52
I had no lock ups or weird screens running 3dmark06 and it ran all the tests with no problems so hopefully ASUS has fixed what was wrong. Infact the
W90 has run perfectly, just wish it had a Blu-ray drive.
With the BIOS on the W90 it is a VGA blue screen and I had to go into system info to get the actual ASUS BIOS info.
I will tackle Far Cry 2 tomorrow.
I do have one question as this is the first laptop I have that has ATI video cards, where do I go to enable/disable SLI (crossfire mode)? I looked at the ATI control panel but could not find it. I saw in the BIOS there is an option to disable one of graphics cards.
Thanks for all the help and info and I hope ASUS makes right what ever went wrong with the first batch. -
Great job with that comparison and thank you for sharing. Too bad *someone* isn't here to see it.
2 monster gaming laptops? -
you mean a group of someones...lol
-
BTW, there is no option to specifically turn off Crossfire. However, an indirect way to disable crossfire is by disabling Catalyst A.I under the Catalyst Control Center. -
-
they say it has dx10 in demo...(other ati forums) so you may have to do something else...im downloading it now to see what it does on here.
what resolution did you run paradyne64?
remember...that was his out of the box with no updates or anything run... -
destroyed where? by 2 frames? i find that hard to say it got destroyed...*LOL*

For the frequent 1-3 days trips I take, I usually use the HP contraption and the Targus XXL backpack and that allows me to take two laptops and enough clothes and other goodies to last the entire trip.
I have a 10 day and 20 day trip this year, so I'll have to adjust that accordingly.
But then again, knowing me, I may have a whole new set of notebooks *cough* M98 *cough* D900F *cough* -
-
Hey John download that hawx demo and give it whirl when you get a moment if you would .
-
-
-
-
we ran some updated test with the 4850 and the gpu score is now higher than a 9800m gtx (3dvantage mark) so that means allot.
allot of this stuff is based off of drivers and what your machine has....
edit:
ichime:
im only talking about adding AA.
example: sort of like a jogger running at full steam, then you give him two 30 pound weights. he slows accordingly, but gets a better burn (or workout)for his efforts -
4850m =5901
both orb verified -
My BIOS version is V02.58. had it for about a week now.
-
flip side:
it could be attributed to cpu over clocking..... since it's a system wide over clock.
another reason why we want the m980nu to come out for real world testing. to start answering some of these un answered questions.
just how far would a 9800m gtx go if given close to the same platform as the 4870's (which according to more than a few people say is weaken by using gddr3 instead of using gddr5)
madmech: you see anything looking like this?
ASUS BIOS Version 0502 Date 02/25/09
EC Firmware WNB-0504 -
-
So although your analogy does hold some merit, you'll also have to consider how well the game is optimized for each card. To make a related analogy, you could jogg full steam, but if you are not a prepared jogger, you'll suffer even more with those two 30 pound weights compared to the better prepared jogger. -
-
you can check the msi and the asus owners thread for real world test, since we ran them already.. -
this thread your in, but you need to start back at the beginning of it to see the benchmarks ran.
the msi owners thread as well.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=349540
larrybee, you have to realize that it's because of my laptop that the 9800m gtx is where it is as a whole. plus the others that have put forth efforts to see where this card sits.
so i can safely say when it's losing or when it's winning...
loading hawx right now...gonna see if it takes a win or a loss here. -
This is what I saw in the System Info section:
Asus BIOS: 0404
Build Date: 12/30/08
EC Firmware Version: WNB_0504
I will run the other stuff we spoke about now. -
hummmm...and the plot thickens... two different bios versions...
sounds good madmech. -
HOWEVER, I'd still like to see some better or modded drivers, they might not be GDDR5, but they should at least outperform x-fire 3870's at similar resolutions. -
but of course Aeilerto. drivers play a big part of how the cards run. but they seemed to be doomed before even getting to a decent driver... hopefully that's all it was. the bios... we shall see though.
and the first results are in:
dx10
highest 192
average 50
gonna have to say you didn't click on the dx10 link for the game which adds a few more settings as well.
it wouldn't let me run dx9...but investigating that now.
