Phew!! Thanks johnksss for posting something because it would have really sucked if nosegard20 had to "destroy" me. I really dodged a bullet there.
I can definitely install Fraps and get some screen shots from there.
I would also be willing to get you my device ID if you would be kind enough to tell me where to find it.
ps. Nosegard20, I don't want to sound abrasive but if you had read more of the posts, you would see that I have posted benchmarks as well as videos of BIOS, comparison pictures and other requested resources. I live a busy life but I help out when I can. If this is not good enough for you, I'm ok with that.

I just got back on, read what was posted since yesterday. Can someone please open ATI CCC and post me a screenshot of the Hardware and Software screen?it should list the Catalyst version, etc. If anyone has the video driver which came with it, please post a copy as well. Not the link to Asus cause I think that may be part of the problem. Anyhow, hope someone can shoot it up real quick. Hopefully I can be of some assistance. Also, what exactly is the problem you are having? You said Turbo Gear downclocks? I thought it bumped the clocks up. Too many pages for me to chase this down, but can someone compile screenshots with CPU-z and gpuz with turbo on and off? And does anyone have Overdrive in their CCC?
-
Phinagle,
Nice find and I was trying to follow the instructions from the first post however I guess they were on another version of RivaTuner as the instructions don't match up with the v2.24 version that I just downloaded.
Can anyone go through and tell me how to apply these changes with Rivatuner V2.24 as I have never messed around with this and am afraid to screw it up.
Thanks
I have heard nothing back from my last email to ASUS tech support that I posted earlier on in the thread..... -
E-Wrecked;
Overdrive is there, but for me the sliders were disabled, and I had no idea how to enable them (Though I sold my W90, so I can't try any new instructions, but I am just letting you know what I know) -
Had a sec before running out to a customers to grap these. I forgot to make the Fraps FPS visible, but the in game one is there so you can see it anyways. The last pic shows my video settings.

@tallan: Thanks.
@E-Wrecked: It came up before that the system RAM is running at 667Mhz instead of running at 800Mhz when TurboGear is off. I don't think anyone has confirmed if it's actually downclocking the system and if it's doing the same thing to the video cards.
@TRICH911: Here's another method for disabling PowerPlay that looks easier than RivaTuner.

Phinagle,
Thanks again. In looking at that link I have two questions. Do I alter both CoreClockTarget_0 and CoreClockTarget_1 since I have 2cards?
And in the post it says to to make the vGPU clock to 750mhz by altering the lines to 75000. My CCC overdrive slider only goes to 600mhz. Will this be an issue or should I make the entries 60000 instead?
Thanks for your help -
well i got the drivers successfully modded aside from crossfire. however setup runs just fine, installing drivers for both cards, then ccc etc
what drivers are other people wanting modded ? -
Hrm. Just wondering, has anyone installed the ATI Driver from Asus site, and also the TurboGear VGA Installer? Is there any problem with that stock driver? Cause reviewing it, the correct card is in the driver package. So, instaling that driver should have no issues. It's the 8.11 drver, btw. Im sure you've already got this far.. So, is the problem that 9.2 won't install? Cause, that is an issue. That's an issue most people are having with 9.2 - there's a mobmod fix to resolve it though.
Phinagle; It runs @ 800 with turbo gear on? Possibly a bug in whatever program is being used to monitor the RAM. And to the best of my knowledge, turbo gear is meant to OC the FSB.. and it allows overdrive to work with the Mobility GPUs. Im really at a loss - cause I dunno what problems people are experiencing.
so far, I gather:
-Lockup at boot(possibly hardware/driver conflicts)
-speculation regarding GPU downclocking/FSB downclocking/RAM downclocking(turbo gear?)
-Modded driver won't install(not sure which driver version is being used - does stock driver install and function?)
-Unsure crossfire is functioning(it is, I assure you)
What else am I missing?
Oh, and something I found out with my OCZ -these cards are HEAVILY CPU reliant. If someone were to throw a high-end CPU in there, you'd see massive gains in 3dmarks and gaming. Just heads up Anyhow, someone care to clue me in if I missed any issues? And can anyone provide me details regarding these issues to save me browsing 160+ pages? -
so no crossfire?
-
I think these cards are running at 550Mhz by default so you should probably set them all to 55000. Well whatever the Overdrive slider is set at by default is what you should leave them at then when you edit the profile change CoreClockTarget_0 and CoreClockTarget_1 to whatever CoreClockTarget_2 is.
They should all be the same value so PowerPlay doesn't downclock the video cards. -
I only care about when w90 will be released in UK. anyone knows? thx.
-
-
Phinagle,
Ok, gonna give it a try. I will be back shortly with the result. Again, thanks. -
Newegg has them back in stock (2:20 pm PST).. I just ordered mine, I am sure ASUS will get the drivers worked out...
-
I have no hands on experience with TurboGear so I can't give you details on what it does. From what was said CPU-Z shows the memory clock at 667-Mhz when TurboGear is off and 800Mhz when TurboGear is active.
Ive asked for GPU-Z screenshots of what the cards look like when TurboGear is off and when it's running but no one with a W90 has posted any. Ive also asked Striker to try and get the naked specs for the 4870s from ASUS so we can see if TurboGear is affecting the clocks when it's turned off. Hopefully he hears back from them on that.
What it looks like though is that there is some association with the lock-ups and TurboGear since when the VGA drivers are installed and TurboGear is not (and vice versa) there are no lock-ups. And so far the only fix ASUS has been offering is to do a fresh F9 reset on the system and reinstall TurboGear under safe mode.....but that has had varying success. -
So, to compile some of what needs to be posted.
From those with lockups and from sachem87184 and MadMech:
- screenshots of CPU-Z, with and without TurboGear running
- screenshots of GPU-Z with and without TurboGear running
- screenshots of the ATI Catalyst Control Center's Hardware and Software screen
- info from the BIOS screens of sachem87184 and MadMech to compare to the video
- System and Video BIOS versions
- someone needs to test the system's stability with PowerPlay and TurboGear disabled or uninstalled
If I missed anything, add on to this list, which I pulled from the last three pages. I did this to ease the pain for other following this catastrophe of a thread. It needs pruning like a mofo. -
Available on Newegg.ca as well
Now the BIG question.... do I pull the trigger??? -
Ok, No luck with it. The altered profile took as the slider in overdrive was 600 to 600 instead of 350 to 600. I loaded up LFD and it crashed right off. Hard reset, tried again, same result.....
-
you mean...do you hit the enter key...lol
-
Ya im so tempted to pull the trigger, but my gut at the same time is telling me no . The original adopters have gotten squat for support at this time and i doubt the new machines shipping will have been fixed. But still its tempting .
if i say ill sleep on it then by tomorrow it will be sold out again lol. -
-
The other question hanging in my mind is: "What's coming down the pipe in terms of future models?"
Better video cards?, Blu-ray drive?, DDR3 RAM?, etc.....
The W90vp-x1 is "Almost" the perfect laptop.... but it does fall a tad short in some areas.... -
Given their return policy I wouldn't buy any laptop from Newegg.

Phinagle,
CoreClockTarget 1 & 2 I set to
Property name="Want_0" value="60000"
Property name="Want_1" value="60000"
Property name="Want_2" value="60000" -
Ya i saw that Aeilerto and thanks for the heads up on that as i had actually been debating grabbing his as well, im just not always comfortable with transactions to strangers on the web, feedback or not . If he lived next door to me i would have already bought though .
-
-
will do, ill be back
-
FYI, my comment regarding DDR3 was aimed at the units SODIMM modules as opposed to the VRAM. (My desktop Nvidia GTX280 uses GDDR3 and it's plenty fast... so I'm not all that concerned about the whole GDDR3 vs. GDDR5 debate).
The A1 looks pretty good but the default CPU choice is disappointing and paying such a large premium for the QX9300 just doesn't make that much sense.
I'd also like to buy somewhere that sells in Canadian dollars so that I don't get nailed with having to pay extra taxes once the unit hits the border. -
-
-
-
Well I just filed my RMA with newegg. I'm hoping they'll still be in stock when they receive this unit. Maybe by the time I get the replacement, this will all be sorted out and I can have a proper experience with the w90. Good luck to everyone here, I will no longer be able to test various solutions. Obviously, I will report on the new computer when it arrives.
-
-
Glad to see you filed that RMA firebird and hope you have some luck with your new unit, as you have been through to much thus far. -
Filed a claim with newegg.ca this morning for a refund if they can't find it. -
On a personal side note; I'll be abstaining from this rig. Just decided that. Fo' sho'. I just know that I'd be disappointed cause of the GPU RAM, and the DDR2 System RAM, and the slow HDD speed, and the oversized screen, and then tack on issues people are reporting. I'm going Clevo/Sager Phantom 85-90% otherwise I'll snag up something else that may smash the scene in the next couple months. Anyhow, just my feelings.. -
-
So... I sent in my w90 2 Fridays ago, haven't heard back yet from Asus at all, is this cause for concern?
-
when you ran your dmc4 test...did you do any of them stock@1920x1080?
cause for concern...i would call them a few times a day till i get an answer if i we're you -
-
Yea i ran a couple stock, at 1920x1080, I posted those results way back in the thread if you can find it.
-
they only say 8x AA
Just finished the dmc4 demo benchmark at 1680x1050, everything set to super high, AA 8x this time, and got these results:
Scene1: 149.42 fps
Scene2: 104.51 fps
Scene3: 183.62 fps
Scene4: 109.16 fps
and this one at 8x AA 1920x1080
-
-
john, I'm referring to post 353 with the screenshot.
-
Just called em, said they were doing further testing and that I would receive a call from them whenever they actually do finish (no timetable)... Lame.
