Hey I see you're in Australia and you've pre-ordered? Can I ask where from?

I just got back from the US about a week ago with my G51J thinking it was all that, then today I accidently stumble across this forum much to my displeasure and excitment. I gotta get me one of these.

Any advise on a good place to buy from with good shipping to Australia would be welcome. Gotta love Asus 2 year international warranty.

I watched the ExcaliberPc ETA Shipping date for the G72GX A1 go up and up on the date and then back again. Don't have much trust in what the put up.

However, it seemed that they shipped out their stock of the G72GX A1 a day or two earlier than some of the other re-sellers.

I Pre-Ordered the G73JH A1 with them for this reason.

The really funny thing is, after I pre-ordered the G73 they had an ETA of Jan. 18th. They quickly took this off the web site after a day or two and removed the ETA all together.

Even though they were bouncy on the ETA for the G72... It is still nice to see !!! Getting Closer Everyone !!!!

I'm sure he'd rather get it from an Aussie store than from Canada, but I'm sure that is a great link for anyone up there. :p

DaRock, There's a fairly extensive thread on it on whirlpool http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1353581
I'm going with www.LogicalBlueOne.com.au because they have a 3 year warranty and extra DOA warranties (and a small discount for Whirlpool members). But www.affordablelaptops.com.au are also stocking it for a reasonable price. the WP thread is only 21 pages, so you should find lots of info on there about getting these here.

A lot of people are getting them shipped directly from some of the US resellers mentioned at the start of this thread as well. I'm just letting a local reseller do all the leg work for me.

Hey thanks for the links. It would be better to buy it here but with the international warranty I'm open to buying from the US if it's worth it. I'll look into it more.

Now I'll go read the whirlpool forum. :)

    Sure!

I would prefer resellers PM me directly with their info, but if there is one you would like listed, PM me with their country, business name, business website URL, contact email address, international tel number, and G73JH webpage URL. Furthermore, I prefer to list only resellers, whom are listed as 'authorized' on Asus's website.

(Asus website is currently under re-design & maintenance, so 'authorized resellers' and 'where to buy' links are not currently available.)

    :)

    Thanks -=$tR|k3r=-,
I've told them about your offer, I'm not doing their dirty work for them.

I just want all my antipodean buddies to get as easy access to this beast as possible, and this seems to be the hottest spot for information on the web.

Also, don't know if any "authorized" resellers are going to stock it over here to be honest.

If you are willing to pay a little bit extra, you can buy from Jack at Logicalblueone. It's an australian retailer, so he works everything out, plus you get an extra year of warranty. If you calculate what you pay for taxes and shipping, the price difference from overseas won't be that much.

Just started tuning into this thread...glad to see AW bashing is still completely alive (2 years and counting) instead of placing blame where its really due, NVIDIA's problem with putting the 260/280 in SLI which stuttering is an issue prevalent with any ODM manufacturer putting these cards in SLI....

lol i am still thinking about the SSD but their so damn expensive, but your right a ssd over 1333 vs 1033 ram would be better

yes true its an Nvidia issue but also a Dell issue the A03 bios helped out a lot but still so far away.

I know what i want, and I don't wait for new spec or better spec, in my case i just want to have 3d capabilities, that is essential( for me) for the next 3 to 5 years (elapsed time i wish to keep my next laptop).

Now i don't find what i want, but i'm sure i could find my wish in 2010

It'll probably be 3-5 years before we see 3D gaming take over. Look how long it's taken to for DX10 to become mainstream (it hasn't yet) then DX11 then 3D gaming....blah blah blah. It will be a while.

So all games will work in 3D with the proper hardware and software? As long as it doesn't require support from the game that would be a good thing. Now just find a way to do it without wearing those dumb goggles.

Would it be fairly easy to swap out the processor for a better I7, and adding the thermal compound, if never done before (though having experience with disassembling an older laptop to successfully swap the inverter on the LCD display.)

Both the GPU and CPU are integrated chips, and no soldering would have been done to them once installed/customized from the retailer, correct? If I were to buy a I7-920xm chip for $500, would the 400 mhz extra in idle make much difference, if the technology for even the 720qm model is primarily running off a single core, which then "jumps into high gear" with more demanding application? And if a change were to be made with the chip set, would the warranty be void, assuming that by having disassembled the laptop, a warranty sticker would probably be placed over the housing assembly?

Note: I noticed that the motherboard chipset is referenced incorrectly on the gif image for specs, as HM55 on the OP, when in fact it should be PM55. The I7-920xm model I'm referring to is actually on Ebay and is a "Qualification Sample" version (I honestly don't know what it means; a sample for testing?) I don't mind anyone outbidding me if I do actually bid (though I'm more inquisitive than interested in buying it.) I still would have bought the standard g73 due to the fact you are paying them to throw out a perfectly good I7 720qm (which could probably be resold easily,) given that those with the I5 processor on the PM55 will have wanted to upgrade to the new I7.

You would still have to pay any applicable PST and GST the same as you would if you bought it locally.

Then, if you use an expedited shipping method with UPS the brokerage is included (Canadian Standard does not cover brokerage.)

Everyone wants to save money, but there are some sound reasons to avoid 'ES' or 'QS' processors! The links I provide below discuss Core 2's, but the same warnings apply. Something to consider here....... personally, I will settle for no less than an OEM processor. Quite simply, an 'ES' is essentially a 'USED' processor, illegally sold, and may be missing feature sets of the final OEM or Retail releases.

    Engineering Samples

    • Cheap & Good?

    • The B0 Stepping

    • Other Problems

    • Spotting An ES Processor

    • Conclusion

    Intel's position:

What are Intel® Engineering Sample Processors?

Intel® Engineering Sample Processors ("Intel ES Processors"), also known as Intel® Qualification Sample Processors, are pre-production processors loaned to Intel's Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs), and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to be used in the product design cycle prior to product launch.

These processors often include additional features that production processors do not include for customer pre-production evaluation and test purposes. The following conditions apply to Intel® ES Processors:

Intel® ES Processors are the sole property of Intel®
Intel® ES Processors are Intel® Confidential
Intel® ES Processors are provided by Intel® under nondisclosure and/or special loan agreement terms with restrictions on the recipient's handling and use
Intel® ES Processors are not for sale or re-sale
Inte®l ES Processors may not have passed commercial regulatory requirements
ES Processors are not covered under Intel® warranty and are generally not supported by Intel®

Thank you, that was very good info. I might pass on that particular processor. I was thinking that I might wait until after the warranty has expired to make an upgrade, which by then should have some decent prices for the I7 920XM, and likely will have some reasonable SSD (size per price).

There's nothing wrong with a QS cpu from eBay for the 920xm. It will save you tons of cash and it will run exactly the same as a retail sample. I plan to get one for my M17x-R2 next month after I sell my OEM i820.

Well the lure of "save you tons of cash", is precisely why some ignore the warnings. I was simply trying to be helpful, by presenting a factual perspective on this, that some may be unaware of. Different strokes, for different folks, but your argument does not negate the facts or the warnings, and Yes, there can be plenty wrong with a ES/QS processor, but you go for it! It's certainly your choice.

The base of the unit would overlap where it needs to, and the body of the laptop would then stick out far enough. I used a very similar sized Fujitsu laptop I had around for comparison to the Rosewill, and it fits perfectly. I also recommend this very well made slip cover, and CD/DVD case (though the 20/20 disc option works better for game manual with discs) while I'm mentioning purchases.

    Hi All!

First I am a pre-owner (since Jan 9th actually) and have been lurking and following the 300+page thread and now this one. I, literally, cannot help myself and have to read each and every post so far for the past three weeks.

Anyway, I need just a quick definitive answer cuz I am confused by some of the info out there.

Can I get the 5300 card now?? Does this laptop have 3 antennae for the intel 5300 WiFi card?? I pre-ordered back on the 9th and the answer was a no at that time, but now it seems that has changed??

    Thanks!

Question: what's the standard Wi-Fi card for this laptop? Intel 5100? I know you can upgrade to the 5300, but if you don't, what comes with it?

DAMN. The reseller I'm gona order from doesn't usually allow customization, and knowing he's selling without Blu-Ray drive by default, I doubt he's using something besides that one.

Any info on the ability by that card to do some packet injection?

Starting to study network security and my laptop doesn't allow it (I think it has an AT&T wi fi card), and although it's not the main purpose of the reason I'm buying the G73, it would be cool.

So, rookie question, if there are problems that are going to arise, about how long after it reaches the publics hands do you think we'll find out? Im on the fence right now because I was supposed to get a laptop a month ago, then found this bad boy. I need one sooner rather then later and am just thinking I should pre-order it now, instead of waiting.
