These are going to be in very short supply, with a huge demand.

Therefore the sooner you get your pre-order in the sooner you will get yours. Every day you wait the farther back in the line you will be.

I would say around 3months at most because g51j's BSoD problem took about 3months to fix (the new BIOS that Ken@GentechPC posted for us fixed the BSoD problem).
I hope ASUS learned a lesson from all the previous g series' problems.

I wonder if Newegg will be an exclusive seller like when the W90vp's came out.

Thanks all for the link to the most current info on the 5300 intel deal!

I sure hope we get to use the 5300 once they finally discover if this beast has the 3rd wire or possibilities of installing a 3rd wire!

as my re-seller keeps telling me.... patience... :D

Well, info on my bonus came out and it will just cover the laptop, now I have to hope that our tax return will be large enough to cover our other planned expenses. One step closer to becoming a G73jh owner!

Two antennas will work just fine on 5300 card and third antenna is not required.
Some Dell and HP users upgrade to the 5300 card and their laptop has only two antenna wires also, working great without any issues.

Ken, no one challenges whether the 5300 card "works" with only 2 antennas, but have you tested its speed and range?

With only 2 antennas you can only expect the performance to be similar to the 5100 card.

Therefore if you are only going to use 2 antennas, you might as well stay with the cheaper 5100 card.

Please see my post on the previous page ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5774020&postcount=694), and go to those links for more detailed information.

just wondering what people's opinion is on how cost effective this unit is if i am looking for something that can handle video editing moreso than gaming?

it seems i can't get something with enough ballz to chew through video editing and HD footage without looking at a laptop designed for gaming. am i missing something?

i realize all the components of this machine are great and it will be able to use Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, etc. with no issue... just making sure i'm not missing a collection of laptops that would be proficient at CS4 yet not cost as much for the bells and whistles of a gaming laptop.

    thank you for your opinions,
    ~kickingandscreaming

I'll be using this laptop for HD video editing as well, only draw back to this laptop is the lack of firewire...

And e-sata. I would think that would be of great benefit to someone who is editing large HD files.

The ASUS G73JH-A1 is a pure gamer...for Video editing look at the ASUS N71JQ. It has all the power and ports you want, but a great video card, and is less expensive.

Has anyone heard of this A-RAM mob? They seem to have a reasonably fast SSD at the same price point as the V-series, but with 170/100 as opposed to the 100/80 that the Kingston offers.

EDIT: Wow, looks like it's a Hong Kong brand selling only in Australia and NZ atm. That's a bit different. Doesn't seem to be any reviews anywhere on the interwebs yet...

sorry, not to de-rail the thread on a different model, but the one you mention does have e-sata, but no firewire? is that correct? i'm looking for something that can act as a video editing machine, and most cameras available to me connect via firewire.

wrote you an email. looking forward to hearing back.

You can get an ExpressCard with 800 or higher Firewire which will be much faster than a typical Firewire port in any laptop.

Though this article certainly has to be unsettling for the Acer 8942G folks, I for one, will remain hopeful with the G73JH. We really need to get our hands on these, before ushering in a verdict here. From preliminary info, I am of the belief Asus has done a better job than with the W90.

How about we keep our feet on the ground here, before running off in rampant speculations over this article.

We will know soon enough, and it's really quite simple. Either the G73JH measures up as advertised, or re-box it, and return it ASAP. No need for the flamers/trolls to now enter, and attempt to derail this thread any further.

    :)

    First post :D

I would like to point out that this test was done with the graphics card using GDD3 memory on the video card while the 5870 will be using GDDR5. All this test proves is that if a 5870 card came out with GDDR3 memory there might be significant issues with performance.

I recently pre-ordered the G73 and am very excited for any new info/reviews/benchmarking I can find, though sadly at this time there is none :( .

For those of you considering the upgrade to i7-820QM look at the benchmarking and fps test results on a completely separate notebook, but since they did not change anything except the processor I feel that the improvements they saw in the Clevo will mirror the improvements in the G73.

    http://www.notebookjournal.de/praxis/intel-core-i7-720qm-820qm-920xm-nkmo-114/6

Note this is in German and for those who do not want to go through it here is what they found. The i7-820qm had a 9% overall performance increase over the i7-720qm based on synthetic tests. In actual gaming though the increases are almost negligible. It is clear that the games were gpu limited and for example in Call Of Duty 5 there was zero increase in fps between 720-820 and only 1 fps increase between 720-920 on high settings with all processors performing well above playable fps(55-56).

My decision not to upgrade the processor is looking like a good idea since according to this tests the $575 upgrade will net you ONLY 0-3 fps on high settings and only 0-15 on the low settings for all games tested :D

I guess it will depend on whether the new ATI 5870 will change the threshold to become CPU-limiting rather than GPU-limiting

At the moment, I am still keeping the CPU upgrade (720->820)but that may change

Thank you for that link. It reassured me that it should perform well (better than many other video cards, cooling efficiency, etc.)

I was seeing references comparing it to the 5850. . . So far it appears that it should be exactly what we can expect in portrayal from Asus, and an excellent value.

One thing that bothers me is that back hinge. How much degrees will the screen be able to open?
