The one laptop cooler that has stood out so far is the Rosewill 15.4" - 17" Notebook Cooler with 4-Port USB Hub Model RNA-7600W for $54.99. The cooling fans are positioned exactly where they should be for the G73.
Since I just bought the G73 I've been considering that it might be unsuitable on a *Belkin laptop cooler (though admittedly the fan does seem to work well off the USB port,) it really should only be used for a 14" and less notebook.
I've also been looking into buying an Ultimate 5300 PCIe wireless card since the processor is an Intel (and I've read reviews on Intel PCIe chips not working with anything other than Intel processors and compatible motherboards,) though there are some new Wimax and WiFi cards being produced and ready for introduction shortly. The only uncertainty I have is whether the PCIe card should in fact be a half mini PCIe card, and not a regular mini PCIe. I didn't opt for the 5300 pro version due to some technology differences, and that I figured the existing card might be sufficient.
And a blue LED gaming mouse pad that might be kind of cool (given that it could plug into the notebook cooler and not have to be plugged into the laptop itself much. This might not work for me however since I tend to place the laptop on the traditional spot for a pull out keyboard for a desk (not much space in other words.)
Oh yeah. . . And Steelcase Leap chairs are awesome if you buy them cheap. Don't want to screw up your back for long-time slumps in the chair.
* The Belkin laptop cooler needs to run for about a minute when turned on, as otherwise it gets a telltale "Jurassic Park sound effect." This started making noise at startup nearly as soon as I got it, though I kept it on account that it really seemed pretty decent aside from the startup noise (where it it needs to heat up in order to lose the friction.)

guys its pretty pointless filling up the owner's thread with speculations about notebook coolers and the like for a notebook no one owns just as yet..
why not check this thread out, you'll get good info and can post there..
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=304671 -
It does become pointless after a while with making the thread about this machine, some ideas are cool but hey what can we do we are human, the cooling thing you are wrong about because that is a major thing when it comes to a machine in this caliber, cooling! That is one of the reasons why people have been buying this machine due to its amazing cooling but it will have to be put to test.

I ordered this laptop, and this is my first one since Toshiba screwed me few years ago.
I bought a Toshiba Qosmio g-15 when it first came about and the notebook crapped out on me within two year, and it cost for $3000USD.. The screen first got horizontal colorful lines, then everything turned black. I even did the recall thingy, but the notebook came back worse with screen problem unresolved and noise level of Hurricane blowing past me. I called them, but they did nothing.
I boycotted Toshiba after that and never recommend them to anyone.
Hopefully this one does not disappoint me like. -
I also have a Toshiba qosmio x505 and i am going to be selling it soon anyway, the thing is a POS!! i feel even for the price a lot of machines come with at least a magnesium lid, like the Asus UL80T, that is one of the reasons why i want this machine also cause of the blu ray standard and awesome 5870!!

Only one button for the touchpad? That seems kind of strange. Maybe it allows you to click on one side or the other on the button for left/right?
-
-
Ahh, okay, thanks... Figured it must be something like that, but all the notebooks I've had thus far had two buttons. I suppose this looks cleaner. I hate touchpads anyway, so either way, I guess I won't be using it much.
-

The only thing I'm worried with is the drivers support for the video card.I can still remember the torture I had to go through with my W90VP.
But heck I pre-ordered one of these baby's anyways. -
Well ATI is now releasing notebook drivers but the catalyst doesn't come up so thats why i do the desktop drivers yeah i also worry about it. Did you sell your W90?
-
Yes I sold it when it came back after 2 months of repairs and then another month of repair had 8 hours to toy with it and all 8 hours was to fix and repair drivers issues.
Once they sell there product and meet their goal they move on to the next laptop they create.
What you see in 1 month will show discontinued the next.
I have written lots of letters to asus but haven't gotten any replies on their ridicoulus marketing.
But as an idiot of the latest and greatest woows I have to have it LOL -
-
Let's hope everything it's going to be well done!! Specially the video card..hehehe..!

Hi all
I'm new on this forum. and actually searching for a top laptop,
Apparently it look like ther's no one that could content me
The problèmes of the G73JH i've found is :
- no e-sata
- the angle of opened screen that is too short and can cause some problème when you are big and you want to use your laptop on your knees or when you want to play in bed with you laptop on your bended legs
- the keyboard that looks good with is backlight, but why a so compressed keyboard ? on a 17" it's primordial to use a full keyboard with more space between fonction touch and with a biger "Enter" key
- ATI 5870M is now the most powerfull solution for laptop but quid of the 3d with binocular that is THE 2010 techno. ?
- And totaly subjective consideration, i think the design is extremly awfull, i like the black mate color but i don't like the angulars form.
- A personal wanted stuff is a biometric reader integrated and not an external solution, if i need a laptop is not to have to transport many periferic device ...
But i have to admit that this G73JH is the most powerfull and great laptop on the market now ... I've to wait more for next one
I've to said that my full test customization of G73JH get me to ~3600$ !! (but when you want the top, you need to do no compromise)
ps: a little question in optic to buy another portable on xoticPC, is that possible to get the good keyboard for my region ( Suisse QWERTZ Keyboard that is a customization of the German version)
Thanks you all for reading me and please excuse my bad english
ps: my actual laptop is Toshiba x200 series -
You will end up never buying one because better spec is always just around the corner.

That said the W90 will still have way more gaming power than this new G73, the 5870 may be new but its not 2x more powerfull than a 4870 so it can replace 2 cards, gaming the gpu > cpu so the G73 will fall behind for gaming.
I did a move from dual 4850s into a single 5870 on my desktop and even that was only a small upgrade. Its nice to only have one card though.
So all I can say is if you are getting this for gaming and you have a W90, dont. If you want it for everything else (media, computing, encoding) then by all means the larger HDD's and faster cpu will pay off.
Im debating the move still myself, I almost NEVER play games on my W90, heck I barley play them on my desktop with a 5870 and 3x monitors... but at the same time I do not really want to limit my gaming ability just in case I do want to play a game down the road. -
One could say the 4870 can fall behind for gaming because of the lack of DX11 support. IMO, they'll both be fine and wouldn't worry about gaming with a 5870.
-
but i think i should look for an used w90...*
* oh my God, your english is very bad!
uff... i know, i know... -
You'll have a better warranty with a new system.

Are all Asus warranties transferable? -
I dont know if they all are, I called ASUS and specifically asked about mine.. -

How often did you need DX10.1?
DX11 so far is following the same footsteps as DX10 its being used to add a few extra pieces of eye candy at a great cost to performance. Its not being used to increase performance. If my desktop 5870 can barely handle DX11 games a laptop sure wont.
Even if they did implement DX11 for a performance boost its not going to overcome the performance gap of 1 card compared to two. The 5870 is just a small incremental step to the next generation its not some magic device thats 2x stronger than the past generation.
You can bookmark this post and count on it the dual 4870 will always outperform the single 5870 except if you find a rare case where crossfire does not work at all with a game. -
250gig SSD on a new laptop versus an older laptop with 320gig 7200rpm. - Even the smaller drive SSD booted slower. Though the performance might actually improve with some applications, I still find the payoff not warranted. The G73 should boot faster with it's technology, which might null the immediate benefits that a SSD drive seems to primarily get notice for. I still won't discount the improvements of an SSD drive if HD volume doesn't matter to someone. Raid 1 is also a good option as well, which may be better (though I had the impression the Raid for the G73 was OS based and not hardware based? Am I wrong would it particularly matter?) I opted for standard.
This article discusses the idea of "partial stroking" a regular hardrive in order to increase IOPS transfer speed. Some people are in disagreement with this process, though I would like to wonder if any here have any comment on which would be preferable (since there is a large trade-off in storage capacity (how does a secondary storage drive work with programs, while running on a primary SSD?
Also, are the 500gig 7200rpm a seagate model and if they are, will they pose a problem?
Supposedly drive models differ greatly irregardless of manufacturer, however I am a little uncomfortable about the possibility the drive is a Seagate model.
Update: I did buy the Rosewill laptop cooler that I posted a reference to a few pages earlier, and it arrived today. It works far better than the Belkin cooler I was using for my Gateway laptop, and the heat exhaust feels as cool as if the laptop was just powered on. Looking at the images for the bottom of the G73, this should be a very good laptop cooler. The hub worked amazingly simple as well. -
I don't know which SSD is in there, but things in the SSD world have changed 10 fold since April of last year when that video is posted. The newest Intel and OCZ Ssd's trounce the performance of a WD raptor raid setup, so that should tell you how out of date that video is.
-
Of course on that video you linked, there was a link to this video that seems to be booting identical machines with just ssd vs hd, and the ssd wins by a pretty good margin. So, who knows.

In relation to your double post in the other thread...
The estimated first shipment arrival date of February 10th, with a 2nd shipment coming in on the 17th was posted in this forum over a week, and a hundred or two pages ago -
I posted this on the other G73JH thread but though some Canadians who look at this thread often might find it useful.
