Hey guys i'm back with a serious problem.... my laptop speakers are not working. i just get a sound when i plug in my external speakers to the plug. The thing that i notice though, whenever i plug it in on the spdif plug, there's no popup that tell's me that i've plugged in a device. but when i plug it in to the headphone/lineout jack the pop up is there. I think it is connected to my laptop speaker problem. The thing is , when i uninstall the realtek driver, the speakers come to life, but when i reinstall the driver (most recent from realtek) it goes dead again.
I've said that the linout or spdif plug works but when i tried to play grid, the sound is ok at first then after the opening credits, the sound disappears..
    HELP ME PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE...

and could someone send me the RECOVERY.DAT FILE from C:?

I do recommend a clean install or a recovery.

Why do you need that file? Do you still have the recovery DVD/CDs? If yes, then you can use those to recover.

Hi, I have this laptop for several month now. It's a great notebook but i had to send it several times in after sales for differents issues :
    - Noisy fan
    - Noises in the audio outputs
    - Bad LCD (AUO2277) replaced by the G50 LCD (1680*1050)

Now i have another issue, i got graphic troubles and finally the windows bluescreen when i'm playing games. I guess it might be because the native resolution isn't the same and the 9500M GS has to work a lot.

I'd like to know if some of you know if a 9650M GT or a 9700M GT would fit in the laptop ? I'm asking this because the after sale service is quite nice in France and they change pretty much what you ask for (especially when your laptop has been 4 times in after sales)

By the way, i've seen several people changing Vista for XP. This won't make your lappy really faster, you'll gain may be 2 or 3 % of performances.

This is usually very difficult with laptops... see the Info BoothFAQ, there is an item that explains the reasons.

If the GPU has to work a lot, it still shouldn't cause it to BSOD. You should consider:
    a) checking the GPU for overheating (using e.g., RivaTuner to monitortemps)
    b) update GPU drivers to a more recent version

I did check with riva tuner, the temperature rise to 80° sometimes
I have the latest drivers for Nvidia Mobile GPU grab on laptopvideo2go. I know that the issue comes from the GPU so they will replace it but maybe by a more powerfull one. Like i said, here they do pretty much what you ask :) So i asked for a better card, but i don't know if i would fit in the laptop (i mean the room in the laptop)

That is very upsetting news that you had to send in your laptop already a few times.

I don't browse these forms that often, but does it seem Asus's quality control is not that great?

I have not had any problems with mine since the end of May in 08.

Well, for sure their control were not that good.
But finally i got a laptop with a very good LCD and finally the GPU has been replaced by another 9500M GS but DDR3.
    So i'm quite happy :)

I think as far as it goes, their overall quality is pretty good, though I don't think much of Australia's tech support (thought I had a bung screen - I called up three times and was about to RMA when I found out about the ambient light sensor on google).

One quick question/problem... I was looking at the CPU-Z window, and I noticed that my clock speed is 1196.5 MHz with a multiplier of x 6.0 instead of 2493.5 MHz with a multipler of x 12.5.

It jumps from 1196 to 2493, but it doesn't stay constant, is that normal? I have set the Power4Gear at High Performance with 100% and 100% on Maximum and Minimum processing state respectively.

    Here is the image:

When Windows 7 arrives, I plan on upgrading the OS on this laptop. Should I use the 64-bit version; or stick with the 32-bit OS?

that's intel's speed step. if you do a stress test on it - eg prime95, it should constantly stay at the maximum frequency as long as the test is running.

If you plan to use more than 3GB of RAM it is probably worthwhile to install the 64-bit version. From what I hear 64bit Vista is quite stable, and hopefully Windows 7 will inherit this stability.

I was forced to temporarily install Windows 7 on my laptop (long story, don't ask) and it's working great! But I can't use a beta copy as my main OS, so I'm planning on upgrading to 4gigs of RAM and install Vista x64. My question is, will the following RAM be compatible with my system, or should I get something else?

    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134546&ATT=17-130-967&CMP=AFC-C8Junction

Also am I correct in that I cannot install more than 4GB of RAM on the m50sv-b1?

    Thanks

I think that RAM should work. Not sure if it would support more than 4GB (which would mean 4GB per slot actually) but currently the perf/price sweetspot is 2x2GB.

    strange situation im in

since i got avast about 4 months ago my m50 has had increased touchpad and external mouse lag on all power settings and the keyboard lag is worse than ever??

avast came back with no viruses but it is possible that avast is possible the reason behind this?? for some reason avast on my crappy single core acer is just as smooth as before avast was installed.

any ideas on what could be causing this??

and i was thinking of getting windows 7 beta instead of keepin on with vista. has anyone done that? how smoother does your m50 run with 7 beta instead of vista?

    Hey guys,
So i am new here and I am planning on buying my first laptop.

    I have two quick questions.

Is the laptop in this link - http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=018089&cid=896.645 - the same as the laptop on the first page (or better/worse?)

    and

Would the laptop I just linked be able to play Team Fortress 2, Half life 2 and Counter Strike Source at around medium settings with +30 fps?

Thank you guys, i am just confused because the laptop i linked has a "B1" at the end instead of the "A1" :)

Yea it is the same one, it's just the B1 version. You will destroy counterstirke with it by the way. B1 has a slower processor, but it's still good.

Problem is, this is the only laptop that I could find that I could pick up instore, that is a good gaming laptop under 1000 dollars.

I am just wondering if the B1 would be able to play Team Fortress 2 at around 30-40 fps, and on what settings would it be played?

You could temporarily remove Avast and run with a free antivirus such as Avira or AVG. If that solves the problem, then Avast is the cause.

    guys i have a problem
My optical drive is unable to burn DVDs,specifically .iso disc image files. It is able to
burn music cd's on to CD-R's but when i try to burn an iso it get to about 2% then says
there is an error. I have tried using different discs with different .isos that i have burned
before along with different programs but they don't seem to work.
It happened out of the blue. The laptop has not been dropped or banged.
im running XP and nothing significant has been installed or removed lately

No, that particular blu-ray optical drive will not work due to the IDE interface. You need one with a SATA interface. Asus uses the Sony BC-5500S blu-ray drive, so your safest bet is to get one of those, but technically, any 12.7mm SATA blu-ray drive would work.

I double this, if i was to get a 500gb drive I would have the WD, its a great drive. High capacity, quiet, fast, and long lasting.

Id have 2 of them in my G50V but the 250gb ones are holding out for now.

If i had a single drive notebook I would need one of those for sure.

I didn't upgrade that particular hard drive in my M50Sv when I had mine, but I know for sure it will work. Any 2.5" SATA hard drive will fit in the M50Sv. If you need instructions, I've posted a dissemble guide HERE

    Hello
maybe someone can help with this, i haven't found anything conclusive yet.
so, last week i got around and instaled 4GB of ram (from which vista 32 bit can use 3070MB, but that's another issue, i'm too lazy to upgrade to 64 bit vista, i'll do it when win 7 is out).
S my rant is over, now to my problem: since last week, on random boot ups i keep getting an unkown hardware to which windows can't find any drivers. after it's done with the search it says that the problem is caused because of an incompatibility between my version of windows and ACPI IRQ Holder.
what's more annoying is that there's no unkown hardware listed in the device manager)

    So any ideas?

also, does any one know the model of the 9 cell battery?

Try boot to safe mode to see if unkown device is in the device manager, if it does check the hardware ID.

in safe mode i have a consumer ir devices, \root\circlass which doesn't load because windows cannot load the drivers... (code 31), but in normal mode it's ok (no error from it), and everything is ok

Try this in safe mode, in device manager click View>Show hidden devices.
After it shows hidden devices go through every category to see if you can find anything that cold be relate to ACPI IRQ holder.

i can't find anything, even with hidden devices on - i usually look there.
could it be relating to the 4GB in any way (the 2^32 address space being full and something kicking in to try and cope with it)?
it's also annoying that it doesn't happen at every boot, i booted 4 times today, both safe and normal mode and it didn't show up.

    Two things:
    a) do you need special LAN drivers? Doesn't Windows detect the Ethernet card and install its own drivers?
    b) if yes, do you uninstall the older drivers properly before installing the new ones? Best way to do it is in safe mode, right click the Ethernet card in Device Manager and say "Uninstall". Then reboot.

Did you check device manager maybe it wasn't install successfully, not sure which driver you install but try these drivers:

    Wifi (Network Controller)

    LAN (Ethernet Controller)

    Hey guys,

Been using this laptop for almost a year now and I'm loving it!

Just a curious I'd like to ask you guys... what kind of temperature when you play games (Left4Dead, CS:S, etc)? I have been getting around 85c and I've seen it hit 90c on certain video drivers.

I am currently using the 179.48 driver and I want to know if those temperature is normal... Thanks!

Ok guys. Finally I saved enough money to buy the WD 500GB Sata to replace my old 250GB. I already check Dave's diassembling guide. So, what is the worst thing I can do to jeopardize this supposedly easy upgrade (except accidentally stepping on the harddrive :).
Is there less painfull path other than reinstalling fresh OS on the new harddrive and install everything all over again? I have around 80GB in my program files folder :-(.
This is a stupid question, but is it possible if I just copy the whole thing to my new harddrive, put it in my laptop and voila..everything will work perfectly? I think Ken might know the answer since probably he does this for a living :p

    Thanks guys...

For me, the easy way to copy everything over new hard drive is use Windows Ultimate/Business's complete PC backup and restore back to new hard drive. :D

If you are using the home premium you will need third party softwares to backup hard drive image and restore to the new hard drive, you can try R-Drive image:

    http://www.drive-image.com/

If you don't want to use drive image softwares and just want to copy everything over it works for data but not programs, programs will still need to reinstall.

for data files, you can just go to C:\Users\Your user name and copy entire user folder to the new drive.

If you use Thunderbird, copy C:\Users\Your user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxxx\*.* (every subfolders)

For Firefox you can use Mozbackup:
    http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

It backup and restore cookies, add-ons...everything.

Yep, unfortunatelly I'm using home premium.. can't afford vista ultimate.. :-(. I think I will use drive image software. My office has Acronis true image, I think I can use it :), or I can just download the trial drive-image.
Just one last question, this drive image software can copy the sytem to different partition with different size right? Because the new harddrive will have around 230-240GB for each partition.

    Thanks Ken..
