Hi im interested on the M50 model but i cant find the infos i need.

1.) Is it possible to add a WWAN module ?
2.) Does the M50 has a slot for a second hard drive ? (like the G50)
    3.) Is the 9650M GT DDR3 ?

Im looking at the M50vn, which is a good price, considering all the features.

Guys i really need your help with this one. I maily use my laptop for viewing movies while lying in my bed. So i really want to control my media player via remote. I have been searching for pc remotes but have found out that most of them only supports windows media center. Then I stumbled upon WLIRC here and pcremote control here. It says that i could use my remote for my TV to create macros that i could set so that i could control basically everything on my computer (i use VLC media player so i want to set let say CTRL + Up Arrow to one button for volume up etc..) Could somebody help me?? =( I don't know how to turn on the infrared receiver on my m50sv too....

Hey, Ken, i'm back. =) Nice to be back in this forum again.

When i went in the Philippines i encountered a hard disk failure (Seagate Momentus 5400 250GB). I dont know what happened. My hard disk just died. Luckily, we have ASUS Service center in the Philippines and replaced the HDD with WD 250GB and everything seems fine now and up to this moment, and still love this laptop.

Hey, Mumar Kalabaw and Clodus, mabuhay ang pinoy! =)

Hey feris =) Could you tell me your experience with the service center sa PINAS =) do you need the receipt or would the warranty card be enough? my receipt is with my cousin in michigan since she's the one who purchased this for me...

Yes, they'll goin to ask just for your receipt but bring also your warranty card just in case.

When i went to asus service center in pasig city they only asked me for the receipt but i gave the photocopied (i mailed my original receipt to Asus H.O. for 1 year ADW).I tried to give my warranty card but they insist and told me to keep it. After that, they gave me a form to fill it up and took my lappy and started to troubleshoot and revive my hard disk but they failed to revived it so they just replaced with a fresh new HDD - a Western Digital 250 GB 5400rpm. The service was very fast and took only 30 mins., i think.=)

I suggest that you should ask your cousin to mail or scan the original receipt and email it to you so that you have something to present when they ask for it OR if you think that will take time, call the ASUS service center and ask your questions.

Took a couple weeks complete turn around (from me shipping [4 days]) for it to get back at my door.

They replaced the video card. Before they replaced a cracked LCD and messed up DVD drive.

The service was excellent to say the least.

    Ken, got a question here:

Can I change the GPU in the M50 and M51 to a 9600M GT?

Officially no, but somebody posted a link (to asus) a while back where the graphics slot was refered to as an MXM-slot which would mean (maybe) yes, but I don't think anyone has actually tested this.
Either way, there isn't enough of a difference between the 9500m-gs and the 9600m-gt to make it worth it IMO...

No, the laptop will not post, plus the GPU on 9600M GT MXM card is on the top, the M50's Modular video card's GPU is on the bottom so you won't be able to put the heatsink on the top of GPU to cool it down.

Hey guys, wanted some advice on overclocking.

Got myself the 177.79 drivers, and RivaTuner actually works for me now! (Yay!)

I've been playing with the clock speeds, and what I have at the moment (see my sig) has netted me a rough 30-35% increase in FPS when I stress-test.

After 5-10 minutes the GPU is holding steady at 86C (in a room with the heater on, probably ~25C)...

But I feel like I'm over-overclocking because of the values I've read in this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=244647&highlight=overclock*+9500m+GS

I mean, I've set mine to 650/1300/500 with no artefacts or any problems and I'm scared to go any higher simply because no-one else has and I'm new to overclocking...

how long should I be running the stress-test for? (I'm using rthdribl)

    http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq8/bugmenotcom/OC.jpg

Here is a screenshot after fifteen minutes of running stress test fullscreen - when it's the primary focus, rthdribl gets ~35fps with factory clocks, and ~45fps with the clocks displayed.

What concerns me is NVMonitor (bottom right) telling me my frequencies are out of operating tolerances - I imagine this is normal when overclocking, but I wanted to be sure.

    Thanks.

Hey guys. My m50sv is great.

    question though:

when I load up ut3, it takes about 2 minutes to load, and I can't adjust any settings in the game. I can try to adjust the resolution, but it just blacks out my screen and then pops me back to the resolution it was before I asked it to change.

The game is super super choppy.
Is it supposed to be with this machine Ithought it was good for gaming?

    Thanks.

    Ryan,.

HA. it was on battery saving mode.

now though I can play for 10 minutes and then it crashes into a blackscreen. I have to alt tab to desktop and then close it by right clicking on taskbar and choosing close.

Any suggestions? have any of you played this game with the m50sv

The IEEE 1394 firewire port on the M50 is a 4-circuit port, which most probably means it supports only 400mbs.

Try download the latest patches for the game if any, update your windows and if that doesn't work, try use another graphics driver from laptopvideo2go. :)

If i want to install xp, do i just have to run the M50 from XP disk, install and put on the drivers? i heard i needed a floppy drive to put the SATA drivers on for XP to recognize the HD.

i installed XP on the m50 and got the bare essentials to work (audio, LAN, video, etc) but i can't get the splendid video, smart login, or the multimedia touch pad to work. i downloaded the XP touchpad drivers listed on the main post but it doesn't work in switching modes. The touchpad is the priority. Am i doing something wrong?

You can try some older version of Spendid video from Asus's website, SmartLogon will never work on XP, for touchpad, you don't need to download, Use the touchpad driver from the M50SV's driver DVD and it should work.

I would advise against smart logon, it's a security hazard (it's been known to work with a picture of the person instead of the real face). Fingerprint reader is better; I don't have one on any of my computers so can't advise on which driver to use in XP.

But a strong password is still the best (most secure) choice among these ways of logging in...

hello guys.i want to ask about the m50sv camera. i noticed that it's kinda laggy (like yahoo messenger type of quality where your action doesnt reflect immediately on the monitor.) is it really like this or is there something htat i could set to improve it? my girlfriend has a sony vaio cs with a 1.3 megapixel camera and her picture quality is superb. videos are captured real time (meaning without that webcam lag)...if someone could just test out their cameras it would really be nice. ill record a video later and upload it ..thanks -=)

You can always use the optical recovery media instead of the recovery partition. (if you can't fix the recovery partition)

Because so many people went out of their way to help me on this board this past year....

To crt, I'm using Vista, this is a screenshot of my "Realtek HD audio manager, speakers section, speaker configuration tab" (see attached)

To dougbrad82, I use a 4GB SDHC card and it works great.

    Hope this helps.

thanks for that, so i didn't imagine it.... the stereo drop down box wasn't always greyed out (mine's greyed out). also, when you plug something in can you choose between more than "headphones" and "speaker out", right? i updated my realtek drivers to the official ones and i think i'm missing some options.

Can I boot from built in memory card reader? From SD card if I set in bios "boot from removable device". Yes/no?

    Thank you
