I have an issue with my wireless on the m50sv-a1.

I can't enable wireless while using Windows, I've tried reinstalling wireless console, but still doesn't work. Weird thing is that the wireless works fine in Linux.

Guys i just read yesterday the problem with the g50 and m50.. it's about the s+d+space keys won't work if they are pressed simultaneously. I thought about this yesterday and indeed it was not working with mine. I have no keyboard lag/missing keystrokes though.. but my problem is with the d+up+space. it wont work too!!!!!!!!!!!! this was the cause of my bad cornering in nfs pro-street (though i'm still winning due to my pimped out lancer evo X =p) i would always miss a turn that i used to be good at on my old desktop.... so i guess any 2 keys plus space wont work... i plan to buy an external keyboard anyway and a rumblepad 2 but i think it's frustrating to have this if i just want to use the onboard keyboard.... would there be a fix for this?? ken said that they're working on a bios update for the g50... how about ours =(

actually i found that problem as well with a lot of the neoprene sleeves. too think for the m50

however i did find a dakine 15.4inch sleeve that is foam padding instead of neoprene. the padding is quite thick and it fits the m50 great with a little bit of space on the front to spare

    Hi guys !
i m new here. theres a lot of useful information here. Nice

In my M50SV-A1, I ve been trying to install Windows Xp 64 and it has been painful... It runs fine and I managed and succeded to install most of the drivers like VGA/nvidia, Lan, audio, etc,
but i cant install the ATK0100 , and without it, it doesnt let me install other things (mainly ATK stuff) like hotkeys, and Fn keys do not work...

For us it is now the most reliable Ms OS, We use 3dsMAX with large files and the 64 bits is the best option.
With Xp64 it became very fast... much better than Vista ultimate 64 which i tested...
but w/ the difficulties i have, i think that i should go down to XP 32 bits.. snif snif

Has Everyone here tested or tried Windows Xp 64 ? can you give a help ?

    My M50Sv came with a 200Gb 7200rpm and 4 Gb Ram 800Mhz,
Is there any program that can overclock my ram in XP to the 800Mhz ?

Is there any way (drivers or so) to get the HDD working in "enhanced" mode w/ XP without slipstream w/ nlite ?

    thx in advance
    VBC

Nop, but I think I'll do...
But I don't agree with the philosophy "the later they are the better they are", i thought that 174.74 was the best, and I could play Bioshock with all max settings and amazing framerate (1176x??? and more or less always 30 fps)...
And I couldn't do anything like this with any driver I tried...
The only matter is that they cause always a sort of freezing of the o.s. anytime a Vista popup appears (BUT only while the laptop is not plugged into the wall... no idea of what is going on...), and it's a driver problem cause I uninstall them and now it's all okay...
But now I can't even play at COD2 with a decent framerates!!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but heads up on the 209 firmware. I had been installing 64 bit vista and having some problems with it locking up after waking it up from sleep mode, I noticed the power buttons only blink instead of dimming on and off like it used to. It also caused it to keep restarting without any bsod's or error messages I thought maybe it was because of 64 bit so I reinstalled 32 bit just to have the same thing happen. I reinstalled 207 and it worked fine so you might want to test 209 to see if it works for you if not better wait until they fix it.

    Hello Mumar Kalabaw.
I have a suggestion on the keyboard flex, but I am not sure if people in this forum will agree with what I did.

    My suggestion:
Remove the keyboard (emporium boutique has instructions on removing the keyboard), all you have to do is remove 2x screws on the bottom. On the keyboard there are 4 clips. (and hey! asus bundled the M50Sv with a spill proof keyboard!)

Carefully remove the keyboard, there is a ribbon cable under the F or D key if I remember correctly, remove the ribbon. Now with the keyboard at hand, just twist away! Twist the keyboard to the shape you want that will not flex when installed, a little trial and error. I got mine straightened out in 2 tries. If you are not happy with this, well go to a paper toile shop, buy the small foam spacers that they have with double sided adhesive, place on places where there are flex, and your keyboard should do fine.

As for the missing keys. Same problem with mine as well. It happens on both XP and Vista. So I guess it may be a hardware problem. Updated to the 2008-08-21 bios. Still the same.

    to those who installed XP

do you have the function (Fn+F...) keys working ?

and do you have the KB_filter driver installed ?

what driver do you think that made the Fn keys working?

    thank you

Have installed XP, but reverted my unit back to Vista soon enough.
From my research at asus forums. KB_filter is required to make Fn keys work on an asus notebook.

Thanks Clodu.. i'll try that one out this weekend... what kind of twisting are we talking here .. i don't what to break my keyboard =( the flex is just at the topright hand corner at the numeric keypad. it's as if its gonna pop out so i have to push it in once in a while

Exactly! Mine is at the top left though. I get the flex each time i press the 'esc' key! Like there is an extra void space right underneath the keyboard.

If you remove the keyboard, due to Asus QC problems maybe, the keyboard is not completely flat/level. Due to this, the keyboard will naturally have flex when you type.
(in simple terms, have you ever been to a restaurant that has a wobbly chair or table? Then you have to put a piece of paper to make it stable?)
That is exactly the problem of the asus keyboard. But rather than putting a piece of material/paper to compensate. The keyboard is made of an aluminum base, just bend (twist) the keyboard to make it straight again. Then this should solve your problem.

In tagalog/Filipino: Baluktot ang keyboard. Kaya i-tutuwid mo lang siya by means of bending/twisting the keyboard.

Me neither, from what i heard on other forums the 92 driver is better then the 98, and i do (did, finished it) get a stable framerate in bioshock, and in crysis on med-high (some on med some on high), now i just have to see how warhead will handle it since it's 'improved'

KB filter can be found on your driver CD. Just do a windows XP search.

You can also fin it on AsusTek support website.
    The link
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
KB filter is in the 'others' section.
Note: I used Vista 32 bit for this.

For People who own both M50Sv and M50Vm. Any idea why the KB filter driver for both units are different?
Sv kb filter = 93.92 kB
Vm kb filter = 322.6 kB
Wondering if this will fix the keyboard lag issue.

Have noticed a problem that may be related to the keyboard lag. I normally use notepad to check if there are keyboard lags and just type anything. While typing, I normally notice the screen flicker from time to time, and each time it flickers, there is a possibility of skipping a key.

2 probable causes that I have found
    1. Ambient light sensor. I disabled ambient light sensor, have less keyboard lag problems.
    2. Disabled TMM. This may be constantly checking for a monitor that may cause the screen to flicker. If you check the log of TMM is task scheduler, it runs every 10 seconds or so. (I may be wrong in interpreting the data). Disabled TMM, so far my key lags are now only 1% or less.

I think most owners of the M50Sv out there has already tweaked their unit for speed that may somehow nullify the keyboard lag problem. Maybe....
Have not tried further incorporating Emporium Boutique's solution together with my findings above. maybe this will totally remove the keyboard lag.
(have tried emporium's solution stand alone, 2nd method, and the results have also reduced the kb lag to 1%)

Actually, it will only support drives with a height of 9.5mm or less, some 500gb are 12.5mm so make sure to check it out before you buy it...

Hi mumar, purchased it locally, and it is extremely expensive.
My specs is only a T5550 processor with 160GB Hdd, with the same price in the US, I will be getting a T9400 processor with 250GB Hdd.

And with that price, I am experiencing keyboard lags! It really disappoints me. On second thought, I should have purchased the Asus F6S or F6E (13 inch) instead.

I just wanted to let all the other asus m50 owners out there, my screen started to go dark on me (from left to right, it would last about 10 seconds, then i could re-light it by closing lid and reopening it for another 10 seconds...) so i turned the comp over and called the toll free (im in canada) on the back, and they picked it up via fedex the next day, and i got it back 3 days later.

    HOLY CRAP.

    No charge for anything.

Asus, you just won me as a customer for my entire business, and for every member of my family. Nice job.

To Ken at gentech who helped me buy this notebook, thanks heaps, i can rely on this Asus company.

    Cheers,

I guess you should follow the vista optimization guide of E.B.E.. i never really experienced the keyboard lag because once my m50 was handed over by my aunt.. i started tweaking it =)

Is the light bleed on your m50sv too much? mine is really really bright (light bleed that is) and it really annoys me because i watch movies really often..

LAN and Wireless LAN links are outdated for the XP drivers. Just made my computer dual boot. Found a copy of XP. Woo hoo.

There are a couple of tutorials that helped me out. Note that you have to change the SATA mode to compatible in the BIOS. Also need to use the Vista CD to repair the boot file if you go from Vista ---> Vista & XP. EasyBCD was a great utility to fix the boot file also....

    Where/when did you find a BIOS 209?

If it was removed from the site, they probably accidentally issued it prematurely and will release it again in the near future once everything is finalized.

    i got a problem here..
my wireless doesn't work.. i don't know the problem.. i think it's the software..
so it's like my laptop has no wireless..
when i Fn + F2 (which is the shortcut for wireless and bluetooth activation), nothing happens on the screen..
i also tried the Wireless LAN button (the blue one on the botom right) and there's no option for Wireless or Bluetooth or Both, so it's only the "Neither" button.
i also tried the Windows Mobility Center and the Wireless Network setting button can't be changed / unclickable..

so basically, the wireless doesn't work.. somebody help me plz?

Two suggestions that come to my mind:
    1) Reinstall the driver.
    2) Make sure the wireless switch isn't in the off position.

I'd try #2 first... Sounds stupid but I ran into the same problem a month ago only to find the switch in the off position.

    Best of luck
