Okay, good, looks like this CPU should be okay? Running at idle, max 50c on one core and 49c on other?

GPU running at 62c, that seems high for idle

I haven't downloaded the drivers yet.

    *sigh*

I went to the link provided on page 39.

Downloaded and ran all the setup programs.

Drivers setup program ran and installed, but nothing else would.

I have no Nvidia Control Panel or anything.

Is there another link? something that's easier with full set-up features?

well, think i got it figured out.

Afer Playing Crysis on Ultra High Settings for everything for 20 minutes, max temp on CPU was about 66c and 87c on the gpu. Alittle high. time to invest in a cooler.

All though crysis played good, with no lag, it still seemed as if the colors were faded. like alot more on the grey side then normal. Wonder Why?

Overall, after playing with this thing all night, I really like it.

I still haven't pulled the battery out of the package yet to see how long that lasts. I've been running this all night with just the plug-in.

After I take a nap, I'm going to hook this up through the HDMI output to ou 73" DHLP TV and see how some of thos movies look. I did a straight burn on them, no compression, so I'm hoping the HDMI output will put 1080p resolution to the TV.

Howard, your start of this thread review is what pushed me to purchase it. Good review.

Now, the fun task of burning all 200 of my dvd's to the external harddrive to take with me on trips. Oh what fun.

    Thanks Guys!
    Jay

Hey so is anyone here from outside the U.S.? Because I'm in Canada and I'm interested in this laptop, but I can't seem to find a dealer who will ship it to Canada. In fact, I can only find it at the American BestBuy site. Is this notebook a US BestBuy exclusive or can I get it shipped internationally from elswhere? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

it seems to only be availalbe at Best Buy.

Your best bet is to send someone you trust the cash, and then have them ship it to you i think.

I have just came across the asus g50vt-x5. Is this a better machine? I know that it is not sold at best buy anymore but I can still find it for cheaper than the G60vx. It will be my primary computer and I need it to play games from Diablo 2 to TF2 and others. Which one is better for me you guys think?

of course G60 is better with GTX 260m with 112 stream processor beat G50VT's 9800M GS's 64 stream processor anyday. G60 also has LED whereas G50 is LCD. It all comes down to money, if you can spare the money buy G60. YOu know you will be using the G50 with 9800 and always wonder what if...... :D

If you are talking about the Windows Calibration Tool, it resets your settings when you rerun it, just don't change anything.

I was talking about manually calibrating via Nvidia's Color management.

lol both are LCDs, it just that G60 uses LED for backlighting while G50 uses CCFL (cold cathode) for the backlight. both are TFT LCDs, using TN panels, which are the cheapest with highest response time and low viewing angles and less color gamut. i think all LCD in laptops use TN cept a special few from lenovo's business line.

get the G60Vx, much better than the G50Vt-X5 performance wise.

    i have a prob.

It won't connect now to the wireless.

Keeps saying the switch is turned off. I've flipped that switch back and forth, and still, nothing. It won't find new networks. And I know there are some. There's 2 just in my house alone.

    Any fix?

finished the Brazil urban slum mission...infiltrate via submarine mission....now at the chopper assault castle (russia mission) G60 performed flawlessly and 1366 x 768 coupled with GTX 260M makes everything life like. COD 4 is not even close to this game. G60 is truly remarkable, all detail high and frame rate is super smooth! Just like watching a movie!

This is on stock 186.40 driver.

I went to exchange one. With 182.82 driver the overall temp was down but for some reason it flucturated between 51 to 66c doing nothing, kept doing it all day, I didn't like how it was..so exchanged one.

The one I exchanged #6 key didn't work at all..so exchanged it again..3rd one is a charm (knock knock) this one idles at 55c at stock driver and everything works fine. I been playing Modern warfare 2 two days straight gaming running all the time...I'm pretty sure I burnt the video card in :D so far so good!

so what are normal for temps?

I'm getting like 49c CPU and 54c GPU at idle. Doesn't really flutuate except maybe 1c

While gaming, I'm getting like 66c on CPU, and 87c on GPU

Is that good or bad for a laptop? This my first laptop, so have no idea.

On My home PC, it really nevere gets above 56c on the cpu.

My GPU maxes at 87, where the fan comes on and keeps it around 82-83C.

My CPU maxes at 61C (but I think my T9900's TDP is lower than the stock G60Vx).

Though I am running at much higher clocks (3.3ghz CPU, 600/950/1550 GPU).

But since you have a stock system, it looks normal.

hmm, my fan on full blast at 87c, doesn't lower. But, I'm not running a cooler either and it's not propped up, just sitting flat on glass table.

I haven't overclocked it yet, should i? seems to be running crysis just fine.

I must say, I am finding myself using this more then the home pc.

Got 20 movies in full format copied to the external harddrive, another 110 or so to go. Man that's gonna be nice having all this on the go.

Wonder how hard it would be to make a water cooling set-up for this. hmm, bet i could do it with just a soldering gun and some metal tubing and such from hobby store.

It was $339 + tax and shipping from HP Parts. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=423866

I don't know if it's still in stock or not though.

The T9900 is the fastest processor the G60 will take.

Hey guys how's it going? I've been lurking around a little reading all the helpful stuff. Just having a strange issue with this laptop so I'm hoping someone may have some insight as to why this is happening.

You know how you can view/unview desktop icons? Well, upon unviewing them, after restarting, they appear again like I never unviewed them. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

i dont think the G60Vx will take a C2Q based on the fact that the BB G51Vx didnt. since both use the same mobo (listed as G60Vx in ALL asus models whether they are G51 or G60), i think BB has used a different revision that doesnt support C2Q wihle resellers have the one that does. but then agian, im guessing, if some1 wants to buy a C2Q and try, be my guest.

Well I purchased a Q9000 and put it into my G60vx bought from Best Buy. The BIOS recognized it but windows wouldn't boot. First tried to boot windows 7 64bit normally and system froze at the starting windows screen.

I then went ahead tried to do a fresh install of both windows 7 home 64 and windows xp pro 64 and both installs froze. I put the p7450 back in and windows 7 installed and booted no problem.

Also the G51 uses the same G60vx motherboard and according to this thread only the A01 motherboard revision supports a quad core. My G60vx best buy model is the A12 revision which looks like it doesn't support a quad.

    Get a T9900 or a X9100.
Those are the best CPU's that will work with a G60VX.
Those will offer a pretty significant performance gain, while not exactly at the level of QUAD's but still a very nice boost.

    hi boyz!!

i bought this laptop at bestbuy (oct 27) with windows 7
great machine, i use it to play Aion online in max settings, lol.

I have some questions. how can i see the temp of my cpu and gpu when playing? Also.. said that it come with 320gb, i know is not that (285gb).. 14 gb was for asus partition.. so i erase it and maked one big partition, later i change it , 1 partition for win 7 (50gb) and everything else for data.
But.. the laptop wont start, always ask for a disck check in C:/ and freeze at 1 sec...
so... i restore everything using the asus dvd and now is ok!! but i have that 14gb partition from asus and i dont whant it! lol!!! how can erase that???
