    Greetings all,
I'm considering buying a RBBX05 and would like to know if :
    A. Is it possible to upgrade the CPU to something faster: (P9500 -P9700, P8700-8800)
    B. Can a SSD be added to G60Vx-RBBX05?

    Thanks

my predicaments exactly. thanks for confirming what i said, but...i feel that you bought it unnecessarily. if you searched the internet you wouldve found the G51Vx-RBX05 cant support quads so most likely G60Vx cant. its a trend of Worst Buy's computers.

hope u can return it now :)

    1) Was looking at crucial web site says G51 G60 can only use 4 GB ram max..is that true? anyone put in more than factory 4 GB?

    2) Just realized when booting up and alt/tab switch between game and windows, the right side of my screen at he right border has 2 spots of light bleeding gray/white..its not bad, just noticeable when background is supposed to be all dark or booting up the screen when background is all dark. That shouldn't matter right?

    Howard (or whomever)...

I just purchased the Asus G60VX-RBBX05 today and have it pretty much set up as per your suggestions. I have a question regarding the hwmonitor download from http://www.cpuid.com/

Do I chose: Download HWMonitor 1.15 setup or CPU-Z 1.52 setup

or what to get the temp readings? Also, will I need to "Accept as Administrator" or whatever that window said? I'm kinda new at this Windows 7 stuff.

    Thanks!

    Get both .
    HWMonitor measures hardware temps.
CPU-Z gives you info on your CPU( core speed, multipliers ect...)
    Both are very useful.

CPU-Z is invaluable, as it shows CPU, Mem and Graphics speed (not even GPU-Z shows Shader clocks).

    Hey guys. I've just bought G60Vx Q900SFJGAW

    Specs are:

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 (2Ghz)
    2 x 320 HDD
    White color.
The rest are exactly the same as BB versions.

I live in Azerbaijan (Eastern Europe) and here this modification costs about 1800$. I've also seen it in UK and the price is 1300 pounds which is even more expensive. So, you guys are kinda lucky :)

You have to decide on a size. G60vx is noticeably more compact than the other two. I wouldn't pick gateway FX. It has a history of running hot and fan running loud constantly and with 17 inches (if ur referring to bestbuy version) its only 1440 x 900..kinda low for 17 inches and backlight is LCD not LED.

G72 is 1600 x 900, much better and Asus runs quieter and cooler.

I don't know, is a Jeep better than a Hummer?

Pick the screen size you want and decide for yourself. I would buy the Gateway if I was in the market for a 17", but I'd probably spend about $800 more and get something much more beastly (17" can accommodate).

Funny, cause people say the same about Asus models at Best Buy :D I like the Asus, but for only $50 over the G60, you can't beat it :)

    Hello,
I am going to buy a laptop for next year, as I will be going to college. I am looking for a laptop that will be my only computer. I was looking for something that can handle games really well. Supreme Commander is one of the Games I have in mind. As far as I know this will run it well. The recommended requirements are System:
3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or equivalent
    RAM:
    1024 MB
    Video Memory:
    256 MB

Then I also want a laptop that I can do school work. I plan on using Rhino, SolidWorks, WildFire ProE, and Dev C++(or WindRiver if I can get a copy of it). Obviously I will need to use Microsoft word, would this be a good computer to get?
Also Bestbuy has a Asus G60Vx-RBBX09, which appears to be very similar but with a longer battery life. Is this correct? And which do you believe would be a better deal?
Thanks, and I am open to any other recommendations for laptops, just try and keep the price around this price or lower.

Yes the G60Vx-RBBX09 has a 9 cell battery instead of the 6 cell on the RBBX05.You might get about an extra hour of battery life with the 9 cell battery for stuff that is not too demanding.
As to which one is a better deal that's up to you to decide, you get a better CPU and another HDD with the RBBX09.
I don't recommend this unless you are willing to get your hands dirty and opening up your laptop but some members of this forum have gotten the cheaper model and added a much better CPU than the stock one (T9900 for me :D ) .

    Hi Peoples

Just found a prob with my G60, was wondering if any of you having the same problem.

I have MP3's, alot of them, they play fine on my home PC, but on this laptop, they play with errors. Like they are corrupted files.

I downloaded the new sound drivers from asus suport page, but, no change.

    Any one else experiencing this?

The DVD Movies play just fine, no sound problems, but every oe of my MP3's sound like they skip, blurp, etc.

I deleted the sound drivers and reloaded them, now something keeps popping on the screen saying,

'a compatible SRS audio device not found'

Anyone else developing thes problems with this or playing back mp3's?

Powermizer issue. Has nothing to do with your sound drivers. Disable Powermizer.

If you listened reeeeeeal close to your DVDs, they would be skipping too.

    UPDATE!

All the files play perfectly using Winamp.

So the problem lies with Windows Media Player. No Surprise there. Guess I'll just use windows media player for watching DVD's.

    :)

    Ya, Problem Solved.

    I Love this laptop.

Thanks Howard for this Review. I wouldnt have bought this without reading that first.

if you go nito the BIOS, you can up the speaker volume. And the microphons sensitivity is just in the settings.

Same thing happen to my G60..delete the Asus wirless console from the control panel uninstall screen. that fixed my problem with the switch issue/network not found. For some reason the ASUS wireless console software conflicted with the intel wireless controller. After I got the network back I re-installed the latest verison from the ASUS website went into devise manager under network adapters and right clicked it to "Scan for hardware changes".

    Hope that helps...

Roger that, modern warfare 2 max everything on stock P7450 CPU, no OC needed. Also yes, if you upgrade cpu, warranty is void, but then if something happen just pop the old one back and play nice :D

It's because of this thread. They are all sold out.

Amazing, Best Buy didn't give you a part of the profits Howard :(

Seriously though, I wonder if it has something to do with the battery recall.

If You do a search on google, you'll see that some of the laptops are being recalled because under extreme temperatures, the batteries are malfunctioning and or exploding.

EH? what battery recall? mine is cool and fine.... I just did a prelim search, only saw battery problem in 2006.... and if there's battery problem, wouldn't the 1199 one with 9 cell recall ? well i guess only if they are the same maker. Last I checked, all stores around me have it and I just went to buy a Logitech G500 mouse to replace my G5....there were several G60 there for sale.... strange, unless someone updated and just made a mistake and pulled G60 off the web site.

By the way G500 is a worth upgrade from G5 :D

ya, reread, the battereis were for laptops made in 2007

No idea why Best buy took the laptops off website. Maybe they are phasing them out? Only selling what's left in store?

Still doesn't make sense. Why take it off their website if they still have them for sale in the stores?

I think this laptop is probably the best gaming laptop they had in the store. The G72 is nice, but the touchpad and glossy finish is rather ugly. That's why i didn't get it.

Glad I got mine when I did.
It is a little strange that it's not on BB website any more but I do think they will get another G series.
This is/was a very popular laptop and BB always sells some sort of ASUS gaming laptop so maybe the first run just got sold out and they are getting more in future shipments.( I hope for all the unfortunate people that did not get one when they first came out).

I have a problem with BB, probably i was the last person who has bought this laptop on the website, because the day after i bought this one the link was unavailable.

Today BB sent me an email, they say thay my product becomes back-ordered and i must choose to wait for the item or cancel my order

im very disappointed, so what do you advice me?...you think i should wait for it or definitely BB wont send me the laptop?

do you know what happen if BB doesnt have more of this laptops??

someone has been in a similar situation??

Thanks, im sorry for the mistakes, im learning Enlgish.

Hey howard thanks for the help on your review. I'm trying to figure out a couple of things because i want to get that laptop around Christmas and i'm excited. What type of antivirus software do you prefer. I'm hearing norton is good but i don't want something thats going to take up alot of memory?

I'm also trying to figure out if its worth going for the best buy warranty for two years.

    thanks for the help
