Install 186.82, Install and turn on Powermizer Switch, make sure you don't have an External monitor hooked up (or disable your Laptop display while running an external).

This is the only thing that works for the G60 and Windows 7.

 

DAMN with the 195, at idle, mine shot up to 86 C in IDLE. REmember how mine was nice and cool before? I wonder why this is happening. THank god to premier silver, I think I'm gonna go trade in another one, what do uthink?

Bythe way I did download the 186.82 how do i unpack it? wont' work

 

This are still beta drivers, they probably work for some but expect glitches and not stable in all games.

Well for me was just dl and extract the cab file run the setup. I used Winrar 3.90, but i guess other compression programs works fine.

Check first if the 186.82 dont do it on its own, it does for me under vista, but if it doesnt check PowerMizer Switch - get the most out of your video card

Glad it worked for you . When you get a chance post your new idle temps should be more cooler than before.

You can check that thread, were you dl them, i think they came from a Microsoft update, idk for sure, but they worked really well for me, even got 300pts extra on 3dmark over 186.81 official drivers, no glitches at all. For some reason some people did say that 186.82 didnt downclock for them, like citizenpanda, but not sure where he dl them from, i tried the laptopvideo2go version but didnt install right away so i figured i needed modified inf, i didnt want to deal with that so i just dl from the link posted before, and worked like a charm so never looked back. You should try 3dmark06 and compare it to your old score, im interested on seeing if it also gets better scores under win7. Also you can post in that thread were you dl them if you would like to know how did he got them, but pretty sure it was from MS windows update.

Nope. If they are working good for you, then just stay with them probably until the next official release from Nvidia, but ill keep this saved as they been the best i tried till today.

 

Ok this is both good and mind boggling.

My 3D mark 2006 score with 186.82 was increased from 9020 to 9130,

What's weird as you can see in the picture is it ID my Video card as GT 170M?????

Thats pretty good, 100 extra points for just updating drivers is good, as well as gaining a good idle temp . Dont worry about the 170m, was suppose to be the name of our current card before nvidia decide to rename it to 260m.

 

One thing strange though, my idle temperature is lower but it still fluctuate between 51c to 65c........what about yours? I wonder if mine has anything to do with the default asus fan setting but even then, fluctuate between 51 to 65c, could there be something wrong with HSF with my system? I'm still debating to exchange one or not. What do you think>

 

Well idle temps arent always dead on a temp, they will fluctuate some. I usually mantain between 50-58C, but opening programs, animations web browsing etc should have some impact, i woudlnt worry too much, if you arent comfortable with it, then exchange it, i doubt you will see much difference.

Now that I know this 186.82 works..I'm gonna go exchange one. I agree and understand temp is not dead on, but a continuous variation of 51c to 66c is a bit strange..........can't help but to wonder what's wrong inside...especially it was cool when I first did the review idle with stock driver at 60c or 59c now it goes up to 85c

 

Yeah I got 53C idle right now as i speak so I dont know why your that hot.

home now with new G60.......everything's fine.... but the

6
key...have to press top half of the key for 6 to show, but normally when we type we just press 6 usually near the bottom half, and the 6 will not register. So whenever I need to press 6 in my typing, its usually mistyped cause the bottom half won't register.

Am I too picky or do I just have real bad luck.

Any fix, suggestions?

Yea I can't get 6 to NOT register on mine any way you press it. Keyboards are not all the same sensitivity.

 

if you press the bottom half of 6 on my keyboard, it will not register no matter what you do with it, sucks......I tried the same with every other key and number key all work perfectly. MY phone number, other user name, even my social has 6 in it, quite inconvenient for me. Guess I'm cursed with gaming laptop sigh...

 

There are 2x "6" keys... just use the other one.

Don't be so down. I went through 3 G51 before getting the one that sealed the deal. My first one was a G51vs from best buy that had a broken keyboard. Changed it for another G51 with them and had random issues and burned GPU almost out of box. At the same time when that burned GPU happened, my new desktop with an HD4870 GPU happend to burn down due to defective GPU. Tecnically my third was alright (G51vx-A1) but I had to sell it to pay my studies and recently I got the G51J.

My G51J is problem free so I am one happy camper so don't let the Lemon laptops get to you! Don't settle for the faulty keyboard if it bothers you. It is better to suffer a bit right now and get the one that works than keeping the one with the issue and remember it for the rest of your life

 

Thanks, I was thinking if it's not meant to be and i'll just get a small portable sony or HP as my carry around since I have my core i7 + ATI 5870 video card gaming desktop. Still kinda thinking about it though cause if I have that desktop + G60, I'm bound to neglect one of them and both are expensive!!!!
Though G60 is such powerful beautiful portable machine

I saw a couple on EBay... I haven't seen a 12 cell battery, tho.

I just ordered a G60 with doubled up drives and the large battery... didn't really need the disk space, but wanted the battery.

 

Try ebay.......or just google asus g50 g51 g60 battery...they use the same ones...

 

Sell me your 5870 for the cheap if you never use it.

What would be my estimated battery life on conservative settings while NOT gaming on this laptop? for a 6-cell battery? 9-cell battery?
I'm curious, because I really like this laptop, but I also need something that I would be able to take along with me to college and take notes during lectures. (don't want the juice giving up on me halfway though a lecture)

The G60VX is a bestbuy exclusive, i think in europe they did get some g60s, but not sure. You can get G51j from newegg, amazon, Xoticpc, Gentechpc, etc, but not the g60.

Powermizer comes built in nvidia drivers, just some drivers are bugged atm and they dont downcloak correctly, NVIDIA GeForce v186.82 WHQL Drivers have worked well for most G51/G60 users regarding the 2d dowcloak (In case you cant unzip it, then dl n use Winrar 3.90), else check PowerMizer Switch - get the most out of your video card

 

Just speaking from the power meter, set in power saver mode with brightness all the way down you can get appx 2 hours....but I would still bring the cord and get the seat closest to outlet, burden of having a gaming laptop as a note taker

 

Stood in line an hour to get Modern warfare 2...if anyone of you worry about 136 x 768 resolution on G60 or G51, do not even worry, it is stunning.

Also if you think MW2 is just another call of duty 4, you are dead wrong, this game excels COD4 by light years.. graphic and intensity is astounding. Mid-East urban combat's intensity and realism is just short of being there or watching michael bay's film in high def!!

PS: during urban firefight, peak gaming temperature on G60 laying flat with no cooler is 85c, comes down to 65c within 2 mins of stopping the game.

 

I actually ordered it on-line from Best Buy. They have two laptops with the G60 GPU, the $999 version and a $1,199 version. The more expensive one has a second 320GB Hard Drive as well as a larger battery. Since the larger battery runs about $150 at EBay and the difference between the two is $200, I figured that it was worth it to me to spend essentially 50 bucks for the fast (7200) Hard Drive. My major concern is that I had to order it on-line. Best Buy doesn't carry it in any of their stores. However, they do carry the $999 version which I looked at ( and was suitably impressed ). Hopefully I don't have any sticky keys or anything else. Form Factor wasn't an issue to me.

I'm not a big Best Buy cheerleader, but locally they are pretty much the only game in town.

 

The processer bump is probably the most significant... I run 3.3ghz and can't imagine what the 2ghz one would feel like...

 

With no dedicated servers, MP is going to suck. Match making? That's a huge step backwards. Infinity Ward doesn't deserve sales on the PC.

 

Oh it doesnt really bother me..MP will come up sooner or later. no 40 multi playre? no big deal..this s mostly a squad based special op game.. so 9 vs 9 is fine.

I'm in the management position so I understand their strategy, same game on all platform, maximize profit. Hell at least the game for PC is made so much better than the ones microsoft tried to port to PC which usally sucks. So far mission are intense, the kine that you can play again and again, take different approach for the same mission, not one of those place once and bore you kind. I'm really digging it.

What's bugging me is the fact I'm playing on G60 so much my ATI 5870 has not even had a taste for battle yet..what a pity

If u use it as ur 2ndary PC then 999 is good.. if it will be your ONLY rig.. 200 is worth it.

 

I have no idea, as I haven't done anything to desktops since I was in High School (where I would be an avid builder - the days of the Pentium 4 2.4Cs.... and Radeon 9800s...).

Anyway, I would only be interested in the Windows 7 and the GPU, I would go be going AMD for the processor.

 

OMG this MW2 has a new mode called SPECIAL Op. ton of mini combat scenarios you have to act as solo spcl op soldier to push thru This is in additional to the actual campaign and its real as hell..love it!

I only used XP, so Windows 7 is all new to me. If It comes with a monitoring software, where is it exactly?

I'm going to look at the optimization thread and start deleting all this bloatware too.

So far, looks good, no dead pixels, but I need to look at temps, but don't know how.

Anyone able to walk me through everything that needs to be done before I start loading on games/movies/software?

I hate how best buy puts on all this bloatware crap.

oh, and how the heck you get into the bios to change the volume, etc.? On my home PC, when I start up, I have time to press Tab or whatever to enter BIOS, with this lappy, i don't see anything but the Windows pop up.
