did a search and couldn't find anything on this

i recently installed windows 7,

and on multiple releases, my dvd rom works sometimes, however other times it will continuously spin and not eject, and disappear from under my computer, i need to reboot for it to appear again?


anyone else have this issue?

 

that an issue with one of the beta builds are you using the rc beta or the rtm version? i would also go to the asus support site and they have the windows 7 drivers available now. i also downloaded the nvidia drivers from nvidia directly and they worked.......

 

how is the q-9600 cpu working for you.... i have the best buy version can i use that cpu with mine as well....

 

Q9600? I'm using an X9100.

It works very well, though I still wish I had gone with a T9900.

 

Hello, Fanboi here with another minor idiotic complaint.

My "j" key has kinda come off. If you've for whatever reason taken yours apart, there's the actual pushy thingy, a white part that fits into that, and the key itself. The white part has snapped on one side, so it no longer really fits in properly.

Now, for the question. Is this part replaceable under waranty? I've only had the laptop for a few months now, and it doesn't really seem like I should be having all these niggling issues.

Hi! I've been searching for a good gaming laptop for a while now. I finally found the g51vx-a1 to be exactly what I've been searching for. The only thing making me wait to buy this beast is the microphone. Is the internal array microphone good? Or is it useless?

 

Its not useless but its also not amazing.

 

For me was useless, i tried to tweak the setup up, but never got people to be able to hear me in vent (at least clear enough), not sure what the deal was or if mine was defective, but i just pluged an external 3.5mm mic, same as i use on my desktop at home, and it according to people in vent, my voice was clear as home, but im not sure maybe i got a defective mic on the laptop, but for me was useless.

 

Abula, go to your Recording Device settings, find your mic, go to properties and then Levels. up your Mic boost and Mic volume to max. it worked like a charm for me. when playing L4D I had mistakenly left on the automatically transmit my voice setting and it was picking up and sending the ambient sounds in my room.

 

Thx for the suggestion, ill give a shot again tonight on vent when i play again. The volume was already at max, but the mic boost was at 0, ill play with the settings tonight to see if the build in mic works.

 

also, if the program has it, like l4d does, there should be a mic boost setting or similar in there. *edit* steam, l4d, and windows all have mic boost settings lol

I thought he was using his new headset in our last game.

 

In our last game I was using my new headset, all prior games I was using the built in mic.

He's referencing to the post I made in that one thread that got deleted. I think it was about someone gloating about how his notebook can run GTAIV smoothly on a P8400 and 9800M GTS at native 1920x1200 with all max settings, and we all called him out because he was bullsh*tting us.

So guys, I bought a best-buy G51 and so far so good!
But there is something bothering me... I live in Brazil and there is no option to have my windows 7 upgrade dellivered to me, so I come here to ask you guys if anybody can upload the upgrade cd so I can install it down here...
Do not confuse it with piracy, I hev bought fair and square and I am really eligible to have the upgrade!
I tryed to contact asus but so far there is no answer and I REALLY need windows 7 as I hate vist with all my guts!
So if anyone could help me out I would be very thankfull!

One more thing, does g50 battery fit g51?

And a possible bug, whenever I start my system it seems that the notebook boots twice, I mean, Asus logo and sound plays twice before it boots... Any ideas?

i'm looking at the G60vx-rbxx09 and the G51vx-x3.

is there room for a second HDD in the G51vx-x3? and is heat dissipation still the same as if i had the G51J-A1?

 

Does all the G51 come with FullHD screen ?

 

the vx-x3 comes with 1920x1080 res, so i believe that's a yes.
although i think on a 15.6" monitor that's a little too high. some here might disagree with that though.

 

well, a facebook style way to communicate in business style environments is something that would be quite cool, and till now, communication forms are rather lacking there. it's not about the content of facebook, but about the ways one could use it in other environments.

 

I bought a desktop with:

Athlon II X4 620
2x1GB Ballistix @ 1225
EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX

At about the same time as an Asus G51VX-X3A. The G51VX is quickly becoming my BFF. I'm in community college so I'm able to take the laptop to classes easily with me. I've just now started messing around with Crysis and Modern Warfare 2. The only difference so far is that the desktop can do Crysis at No AA but very high settings 1280x1024. The laptop can do 8x AA 1280x1024 high settings so far.

I upgraded from a Dell Vostro 1700 w/ 1.6ghz C2D and Intel GMA x3100 to the G51VX-X3A. Quite a massive upgrade. I'm really wondering why I didn't get it sooner!

 

Yeah, as nice as it is, I found out I don't play games that often and I need a laptop which actually has a decent battery life. So I'm selling mine already to some guy in Canada, and then I'm going to go get the ul50vt. I would prefer to sell it to someone in the US, since I wouldn't have to deal with duties and other things. If anyone's interested, the price is $1200 with a two year accidental warranty from BB. I bought the laptop a month ago. You save around a hundred bucks.

 

I was wondering about messing with the battery plans. I tried playing COD4 during a break between one of my classes. In 15 minutes of playing, I had lost 80% battery life. That's insane.

 

After owning two dells, I finally get to own an Asus G51vx-a2 ,picked it up for $1299 CAD before taxes, just wondering if that is a good deal, thanks =)

 

What's the best way to remove the stickers on the keyboard area? They were cute to start with, but now they're a distraction.

How the hell do I get in the BIOS? I press delete and a few keys, but delete only gets me the windows start menu.

And your fingernails will do to take off the stickers, with some citrus or alcohol cleaner to get the gunk off. My palmrest has been proudly naked for a month now.

 

Oh, ok, the fingers thing worked fine. However, I couldn't get the Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA and Windows 7 stickers off that way. Are there others that have done purely cosmetic modifications to their G51? I've been trying to find some sticker websites or something, but with the artwork on the front of the laptop, it might look tacky.

I've been trying to fiddle with the power plans lately as well. As others know, with a 6 cell battery, it has a short life. Even when I switch to a battery saver plan, I have ~75 minutes. Switching to high performance on the battery and playing COD4 brought me to 15% battery life in 15 minutes. That was interesting. How do I edit the plan it switches to automatically when you plug in the AC and unplug the AC?

I'll report to the optimization thread soon. The first page of it looked really confusing but I feel like I could benefit from it. I have a tube of AS5 and I'm debating if I feel courageous enough for that. Putting AS5 on a desktop CPU is one thing, but opening up a laptop is another, haha. The GPU temps are mid 80's with Crysis running. So much to do! Haha.

 

Woot, I'm the proud owner of a brand new G51VX-RX05 I got today at Best Buy for $700. Screen is looking great, it's dead silent while browsing the web and I'm feeling some faint warm air from the side vent. To do list:
-Test GPU temps and drivers
-Overclock/undervolt CPU if need be
-Benchmarks (maybe)
-Get rid of the vroom boot up sound
-Various Firefox/Vista tweaks for speed and efficiency

Idle temps without a cooler (these look good or could use some undervolting?):

 

Something's been screwy lately. Half-life 2's textures are acting funky.

I'm curious though, where can I buy a higher cell battery for the G51? It came with a 6 cell, can I get something stronger?

 

Could someone do me a huge favor and post or link the Asus desktop backgrounds that come with the preinstall? I loaded 7 right away and I can't find them anywhere.

 

Never mind, I found them on my Drivers and Utilities disk.

 

That seems very hot. The CPU should be straining to get hotter than 40C, and your HDD is also very warm.

If your GPU hasn't been repasted that looks about normal. Make sure you're downclocking though.
