Newly applied AS5? AS5 takes a while to reach it's best cooling potential.

Yeah, its brand new... that's good to hear though

I was hitting a couple degrees higher on my GPU when I first applied it over my stock paste. Just needs to break in.
On the other hand, I abandoned Arctic Silver and went for Arctic Cooling MX-3, which doesn't have a curing period. (While it doesn't officially, you should still treat it like it does have a short curing period). -
what cooler is good to use with asus g51 and where can i buy it.

The Zalman NC2000 seems very popular here, and as an owner I like its performance. Someone has a Nzxt Cryo LX, which also seems to have good cooling.
Both are on Newegg. -
I can't seem to find this in the plethora of threads about the G51, but has anyone tested 8GB of ram in the G51VX-X1A? I know most people say its not needed, but after trying to render just one of my newer images in cinema 4D, I maxed out my G51's 4GB of ram and it kept asking for more, until it locked up and locked me out. apparently, 4GB is not enough for what I want to do. So, if anyone has tested this, please let me know.
-
I have added some new links to the main post, and changed the formatting a bit to conform with the G50 and other owner lounges. Let me know if this is not alright for some reason.
Also, if you agree with the modifications, would you please make sure that the links I added stay in when you do your future edits of the post? (I will do the same when I add links on my own.) Thanks.

Strange thing, I went into the Asus Live Update today just browsing around, and once you open it up, it says G60VX. I guess it just uses the same software as the G60, its not a hardware identifier...

The motherboard is that of a G60vx

What overclocking program do you guys use (CPU and GPU) and what settings? I'll be receiving my X2A on Friday so I want to download the programs for it ahead of time. Also, what are these DOX drivers I keep reading about on the forum and what's better about them over reference nvidia drivers?
-
I use SetFSB and nTools from nvidia. Both work flawlessly with the G51. DOX drivers are optimized for gaming performance, and can be obtained through a website called laptopvideo2go.com.

that guide is your best friend. -
Perfect, thanks! -
Did anyone buy the 9- cell battery form this shop. It seems pretty cheap ,compared to what it is on eBay now.
-
I'm a bit surprised I haven't been able to find this online, but I have a simple request. Can someone please post a picture or two of what this thing looks like with the lights on? Thanks in advance. >.>

I'll do it with my iphone later tonight. I've gotten Windows 7 up and running on mine now and I'm in the process of installing the Asus utilities. Do you guys have keyboard lag when typing? It seems the system has a hard time keeping up when I'm typing fast. -
Ok so I ran furmark at stock GPU clocks and the max temp was 99C. Settings for furmark was the xtreme burn mode, 1680x1050 resolution, 16xMSAA and post processing turned on. I'm not sure I'll bump up the clocks given the temperatures already.
Driver version: 186.31 via Windows 7 update.
Idle CPU Temps: 30/31 C
Idle GPU Temps: 56-57 C.
Load CPU Temps: 63/67 C @ 3.0 GHz (3dmarks06 didn't show it)
Load GPU Temps: 92 C (3dmark06 run) GPU@550/950/1375
3DMark06 Score @ 1280x1024: 10,904 (is this good or bad?)

what drivers were you using?
-
-
the 186.31 drivers are horrid. IMO there are 3 real choices for good drivers, DOX 185.85, WHQL 186.42 or 186.82. Those CPU temps seem a bit high to me, as I get a max of 62-63 while OC'd to 3.1GHz. And I personally haven't noticed any keyboard lag.
-
<.< >.> *waits for pictures*
-
I'd post pictures but the only camera I have atm is my webcam. Hold on one minute...will see if I can borrow one.
-
I'll grab the 186.82 later on and install those. It's a T based chip so it runs at a higher TDP than yours. I'l have to get around to undervolting it. I need to figure out why I'm getting this keyboard lag though. -
I know it has a higher TDP, it just seems odd that even with mine OC'd to the hilt and yours at stock clocks you still get higher temps. I really wish I could push mine further w.o BSODs
-
-
It was actually clocked at 3.0 GHz at the time, I don't know why 3dmark06 didn't catch it. I guess I should've mentioned that in the original post. -

Unless my eyes are failing me, the reseller G51s have blue lights, while the RX05 have nice white lights.
Same positioning though. -
I'm satisfied. Going computer shopping tomorrow.

Once you have your new machine, report to the optimization thread.
-
I installed the 186.82 and the scores remained the same. I guess I'd need to push the GPU and CPU higher. -
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Soldier! You report to the optimization thread like Sergeant Forge ordered you to, private!
-

I'm only a sergeant?
Zoey, trust me, optimization is very easy, and it's one of the ways you'll learn. -
After glancing at the guide I guess my questions would be, what are the benefits and recommendations? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Trust me, there is no danger. Tev just put that there for extra extra safety.
Benefits are... well, a computer that simply runs better than one fresh out of box.
Recommendations:
-Overclocking CPU helps counteract the relatively weak P7350
-Undervolt CPU reduces heat, which is a must for a hot-running G51
-Installing new video drivers improves performance and reduces heat. The guide cites Dox 185.85, but everyone has jumped ship to 186.42 or 186.82.
-Overclocking GPU improves game performance, but, honestly, the stock clocks the GTX 260m comes with are more than enough for almost every game I throw at it, save Crysis.
-Flashing a lower-voltage video card BIOS will reduce your heat even further. However, this is the riskiest optimization you can do. Read up very carefully before you attempt it. -
I suppose I'm a little curious about specific setting recommendations. I don't want to be pushing anything too far. >.>

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
For the CPU, 2.25 is a decent overclock. Don't know about your undervolting limits, since each CPU is different in quality.
Upping your GPU to 550/1375/880 is a good start (Core:Shader:Memory ratio at 1:2.5:1.6) You could go higher to "standard" 950 memory clocks, but it'll give you more heat for minimal gain. Anything higher than 900, honestly, is not worth it. -
Hmm. Are there ways to test the differences?
-
Trial and Error.
-
Anyways, everyone hesitant before they start doing so but if you do, just do it slowly and don't rush through it and you should be fine. -
Hello
BB again marked down G 51 to 999 usd. If I have acquainted which lives in Chicago and I would purchase notebook on a place in BB then must will be pay TAX? -
BB always charges tax. -
BB a national chain, ofc they are going to charge taxes.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
That's why I like to call them Worst Buy.
-
But not you know how many will finish counting buying Taxu to G 51 for them on a place in Chicago?
-
Alright, I am officially an Asus G51 owner. :3 I just have one question at the moment. How to I enable the backlight key lights?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
FN + F4 to brighten
FN + F3 to darken -
Congrats and welcome Zoey. I wish the backlights had a sensor so I didn't have to manually change the brightness.
-
Thank you! As a first type laptop owner I am very much enjoying this laptop. ^^
