    Okay, serious question.

I ordered the G50 last Wednesday. Would it get to me by August 18?

In response to counts question, probably not, if you ordered from somewhere like newegg or a retail style store maybe. But if you ordered from gentech, xotic, or excaliber there is no way in hell. Xotic hasnt gotten their shipment yet, gentech sells out fast, and excaliber I have no knowledge of their stock but thye test and such so probably not.

Yeah count I feel your pain, I leave on the 23rd I am just having my parents act as a shipping hub and sending my laptop to me. And rush you are lucky at least you get FA some of us folks have to pay for our college ourselves :p lol jk you will probably end up waiting a long time for that check though. You can buy the best-buy model which just has smaller harddrives and a 2ghz processor and maybe 32 bit, at least those are the only downgrades at my best buy

Yeah I was checking that one out earlier, but I'd rather wait for the real deal personally. You either wait a few weeks or you get stuck with something you don't want for 2 years lol

I think someone should do an in depth review of the Best buy model
    The Asus G50Vm-X1

there is literally almost NO information on this thing ANYWHERE other then what places like best buy show and the little information that a few people who actually own it give out.
Nothing on the battery, nothing on what it comes packaged and/or installed with, nothing at all but most of the specs and a few pictures of it.
Id do it myself considering that mine arrives tomorrow but i have like no experience doing reviews so i wouldn't know what to look for what exactly to go indepth with or what to explain.

I'm sure im not the only one who feels this way or has at least thought of it, specially those like me who have come to realize reviews of the other G50V's like the A1 and A2 have little to nothing in common with Best Buys model.
im also sure this definatly be greatly appreciated and is currently extremely sought after.
    Thank you =]

ricorawr, the preview model that ExcaliberPC got (I think it was them -- or was it XoticPC?) was very similar to the BestBuy model. That (p)review is still around in the forum, search for it.

Besides that, the build quality is the same, but the specs differ, and the accessories are fewer for the BestBuy version. So all the build quality comments from the G50-A* models apply to the G50-X*.

They did just lower the price of it, but especially when it was $1300 there was simply no good reason to get the X1 when the A1 is only $300 more.

Even with the new price cut I would get the A1 but atleast it offers a more reasonable bill for the equipment you get. I have seen a few games put me at like 90% cpu load with the A1's cpu I would hate to see how bottlenecked the X1 would get.

    Sorry E.B.E.
you havent seemed to have read what i said closely enough (And yes it was ExcaliberPC)

all that showed was things already know barely anything helpful people want hands on things not just specs that are available from day 1
i wanna know how it runs opinions from use and such things you only get from a review not just a shallow overview of any and all specs which like i said have been overdone over and over and over 1 time too many and has ocne again been available form day one

So, I guess it's on its way.

    And to add Vicious
I was on a strict budget and could not afford that extra $300
and this is just for school from what i tried it out for i know its definitely more than enough to handle my school stuff and keep me entertained for hours
not to mention upgrading that CPU and maybe some better ram can be found for a little more which i can get later on and still keep a good quality up to date laptop.
So for the average person personal;ly i would say the X1 is perfect.
Specially now at that price cut.

Can any owner tell me about the model number of the spare battery? Or if it is the M50 series of the battery, I would prefer model number though because all the online retailers are out of batteries for them it seems and I found some online but am not sure if it is compatible... Any help here would be appreciated guys!

This thing is SWEEEET! I was using my trusty ole' Z80K before I got this, so this is a massive transition! Wow. Im gonna go mess around with it, holy crap this thing rawks faces. Theres levels of functionality and complexity and just sheer coolness Im sure will take me a week just to figure out. Whew. Peace!

This looks like the one. $139 isn't bad for this either. I think the upgrade on most resellers config pages are more than that. I won't be buying it just yet, cause I'm already paying for to many other upgrades but I'll probably end up getting onne eventually.

so to those of you that have it.. Is the weight/heat of it annoying to be used as a "laptop" and how "portable" would you claim it? Would you throw it in the backpack and hit the town? Or does the weight of it make you think twice before carrying it around with you if you have no "real" plans of using it.

The X1 is supposed to have the lower-end wireless card because Intel hadn't released the Centrino2 spec'd cards yet.

That's probably what you're reading; they're not awful, just not as good as the full Montevina platform ones are going to be by comparison.

-X1 generally denotes a cheaper, lower spec'd version of the given notebook.

I know some stuff was said about the 5100's in the A1 too. I started a thread on it I think about how it looked worse than the older cards but it has performned fine for me so far. I get full signal at work and at home.

I do not know if it can be upgraded to the 5300 as I think it uses more connections.

My bluetooth I have no idea what it is its broadcom but I do not like the software for it at all, and my wiimote will not work with it like it did with my C90 using the Toshiba stack.

I mean I really really hate the bluetooth software, there is no simple connect/dissconnect option in it! Plus the fact I loved using my wiimote on my laptop as a media controller or a game controller this sucks. I am going to see what happens if I try a different stack for it later.

Does the weight and size of the G50V-A1 match that of an X1? Looks like similar if not the same.

If so, I think I'll stop by best buy to take a look at what I can expect from the A1 based on inspection of the X1...

My only beef with the A1 is price, which makes the X1 very attractive. Just out of curiosity as well, is the X1 using the same motherboard chipset as the A1? I've seen alot of talk of "its not as good" but I have yet to see what is different exactly. Sure the CPU is low end, but do the differences end there?

The size matches the X1 exactly as they are both built on the same chassis just a different model in the series. The weight should be similar they both have about the same amount of equipment in them just lower grade specs in the x1

I know that the X1 has a 15.6 inch screen, while the A1 is 15.4, but everything else between the two seems similar.

Also, from what I hear, the X1 doesn't take advantage of Montevina technology, the resolution is lower, the RAM is slower, and only has 1 hard drive. Also, the design looks different, as the X1 has an orange strip at the top of the LCD display lid, while the A1 doesn't.

the A1 has a 15.6 inch screen also its just msot standard laptops go from 15.4 right to 17 inches while asus just beefed up the 15.4 to a 15.6 and all the online stores didnt want to make a seperate section for the asus at 15.6 and only have one laptop in it. Also the X1 at my best buy at least has two 200gb 5200rpm hdd's in it and a 9700GT, the only difference between the bb model and the online was the resolution, the os bit, one small color difference, and lower resolution in best buy, and a slower processor

Great! That sounds good. Its nice to be able to see just how it stacks up in terms of size and portability this way :)

I would like the A1, but I don't know if my wallet does. Unfortunately wit the BB model there's tax to consider... unless the online store doesn't do that? The two might not come out too different in the final price...

I have stated it a few times but the differences I know of for sure.

    A1 vs X1

    X1 has
    > slower ram only 667
    > slower and older gen cpu (slower clock speed but also only 800fps instead of 1066)
    > only one hard drive instead of two
    > lower resolution and different aspect ratio screen.
    > 1 year BB warranty vs 2 year Asus warranty
    > no bag and no mouse

Those are the things I know,
not confirmed but I think it also hosts the older wireless card instead of the new 5100.

Looks wise the BB model does not have the specle stuff in the lid and it has the orange strip across the tip of the lid.

When it was $1300 vs $1600 the A1 was a clear winner, but they have droped the price to $1030 now? at that price if I was on a budget I might consider the X1 without the sale the A1 is a no brainier.

Thats the problem. Roughly $1000 before taxes for the X1 and suffer the weaker CPU and RAM. I don't mind the resolution too much, and the lack of bag is fine by me as I've actually got a bag that better matches the colors of the G50V series anyway..

In either case I think I'll just stop by best buy and check out the "feel" of the chassis.

    Thanks for the info

I just called GenTechPc regarding the status of my order. It'll be shipped tomorrow. Apparently, they're getting a shipment of G50 A1's tomorrow.

Good news for anyone who ordered from GenTech.
