LOL I was just thinking along the same lines... when I play Crysis and accidentally click "caps lock" it exits from full screen...

There is only a $35 or so difference between the two, with the P9500 being the more 'expensive.'
Also, as my G50VM-X1 (The 'Best Buy Model') has the T5750 CPU, and referencing Intel's website in relation to chipsets that the T5750 and P9500 are using, I would like to field the following query:
1. Is there any difference in the chipset families listed below, and is the G50VM-X1 (Best Buy Model) different than the G50V-A1/A2 models?
a. Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family
b. Intel® 4 Series Express Chipsets
I'm not assuming anything here, as I desire as much detailed information as possible. I'm going to probably void the warranty on this thing as soon as I pop out the T5750 chip for a T9400 or a P9500, etc., so I want to understand the architecture as much as possible.
Much thanks,
Firefishe -
Well, I do not know the answers to your chipset question.
I would not be surprised if the T9400 overclocked better than the P9500.
btw, I believe you have their wattages backwards. The P9500 is 25W, the T9400 is 35W. -
Best Buy's website shows the chipset as being the PM45. Meaning that Asus is just using the older generation processor with the new chipset, for budget purposes. I don't belive that the G50vt uses the older (GM965) chipset. If for some reason though that is the case you would not be able to use the newer processors with the G50vt anyway.
The best way to know is to run Everest, or I believe that the chipset should even be listed in device manager under system devices. -
hi, I'm going to order Asus G50V-X1 from newegg today sometime. I have some questions :
1-Does the one from newegg come with 2 year Asus global warranty?
2-the newegg one comes with single 200GB 7200rpm, so can I add another Hard disk as I've heared that the A1 model comes withh dual Hard disks.
3-wat is the keyboard lag?
Hope this isnt too much, and also does anyone own the newegg asus G50V-X1?? -
At this point I would suggest buying the G50vt from Best Buy over the G50v-X1. It has the 9800m GS, and a 7200 rpm hard drive. I don't really know all the differences spec for spec, but it is definitely worth researching before you buy the X1. I think that the G50vt may even be cheaper.
-
1. Don't know.
2. Yes you can add a 2nd HDD, but apparently you also need a custom bracket which may be more troublesome to find (but not exceedingly so, I hope).
3. Check the G50 owner's lounge, 1st post; there is a link to a thread discussing the problem. -
Hey guys I took some pictures of my G50Vt-X1 from Best Buy and also of some BenchMarks I have run.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=552&ppuser=0 -
G50V-X1 - G50Vt-X1
1680X1050 - 1366X768 resolution
200GB 7200rpm - 320GB 7200rpm
9700M GT DDR3 - 9800M GS DDR3
15.4' display - 15.6' display
2 year Asus warranty ( as on newegg ) - 1 year BB warranty
Dont know about the RAM, maybe both have 800Mhz. Only BB have the G50vt. Why isnt any other reseller not getting the G50vt. I also think the real G50vt will be much expensive. So between these two I going for Newegg one. -
oh, btw, the newegg one comes with carrying backpack, mouse ( logitech MX518 I think ), a free game ( Alone in the dark ). So I think I'd be happy with the newegg one for two years or so. But, thanks for the suggestion, greyreap.

I got my G50V-A1 from NCIX on Thursday. It's awesome! I'm very pleased I got it. I was a bit concerned about using XpressPost (the only option in my location), but it was very well packed.
I've experienced the keyboard lag issue, but I just reverted to the Microsoft default drivers for the touchpad. In fact, I might even disable the touchpad since I always use a mouse.
It took me a few hours to get used to Vista and expecially the new Office 2007. The new layout is functional, but makes us "old fashioned" menu-pushers stop and stare quite a bit.
I did some Vista tune up using the guides on NBR. I moved my personal data folder over to the D: drive. Finally, I removed a useless reference to LightScribe in the startup items. I'm trying to figure out why this "MS Pinyin" shows up twice in the startup up list. Google says it is something about Chinese text input! Any ideas?
The native screen resolution makes text that is way too small for my eyesight. I've backed off a few settings. I also learned that Internet Explorer has a "Zoom" setting, so I can read websites that ignore the browser text size setting (e.g. facebook, CNN).
I wish the G50V-A1 had a modem, but overall I am happy I got it. I appreciate all the information that NBR members have contributed. -
never mind, i deleted this!

This is my 1st and 3rd laptop i have had. I started with a sager 2096 and had heating issues and returned it. I then ordered an hp which i wasn't too happy with and ended up returning it. I decided to fork out a little more money for this laptop, hopefully this one will meet all of my needs without any issues. -
Could anyone pls tell me where the CMOS battery is situated, since i enabled Intel VT-d and Intel TXT at bios and now the laptop doesnt even post, the only thing that works is Express Gate. I tried removing battery, holding reset and power switch but that doesnt help, in one of the topics some guy had the same problem with his m50 and cmos battery removal rly helped him, and i dont want to RMA.
-
-
Congrats to you as well on this purchase! -
By reset do you mean the >o< on the bottom of the notebook? If not, then try that; it should reset the CMOS setting, roughly equivalent with removing battery.
Otherwise, since express gate works, do you have access to BIOS?
Also you can use the DPI setting to globally increase font sizes (web, applications, Windows, etc). -
Express Gate works because there's another simple POST, where i cant press F2 to get into bios. And if i just press the power button it shows me the black screen and nothing is loading :/
I guess one of those technologies (Intel TXT or Intel VT-d) isnt supported by the motherboard/cpu or smth, anyway dont enable them if you dont want to brick your laptop ;[
I tried to look for the battery but only found 3 black things which it might be. One here, near the wifi card:
ttp://s57.radikal.ru/i156/0810/5a/b98b194b4714.jpg
and 2 here, near the GPU:
ttp://i004.radikal.ru/0810/a9/e72b88f159e8.jpg
anyway they all are pretty hard to get access to without voiding the warranty so im going to RMA tomorrow :{ -
Yeah, it's also difficult to tell from the photos whether they are really a CMOS battery.
That tiny hole should reset the CMOS. Maybe something in the hardware is malfunctioning, triggered by the BIOS settings that you did, and not reversible by resetting to default settings.
Anyway, under the circumstances,I believe RMA is the best way to go.
You may also give my no POST checklist a try, see my Tips and Tricks (link in sig). -
Anyone knows if it's possible to change the touch buttons' actions? I'd like to have the volume up/down controls there.
I use those controls a lot but it's really annoying having to use both hands just to turn the volume up/down. -
Have a look at the Customize ASUS Hotkeys link from the Info Booth.

How to change the driver to on the nvidia 9700 gt to play Far cry 2 optimal
-
I don't know what driver is best for gaming or Far Cry 2 on this laptop, but in general, for GPU driver upgrades, check laptopvideo2go.com .

Hey gang,
Just got a G50vA2 and was fiddling around in bios... I saw an option to turn on some sort of temperature sensitive fan controller (or something to that effect)... Any input as to what this is? It sounds legit, why do you think it was off?...
__________________ -
I don't know -- the fan should ramp speeds according to temperature by default. What is the exact name of the option?
-
Thanx E.B.E.,
I'll take a closer look and get back to you... -
Its called DTS Thermal Sensor... I dont know why it was off...
-

Ok so i have my g50 set up in raid...
After updating to the 207 bios, do i have to change the confuguration back in the bios to raid mode? do i have to format? -

so what is up with the new G50 Models??? I feel ripped off, thinking I have the top of the line, then a month later for less money you can get a different gpu, better harddrives, and for a few bucks more even get a monster with 6g ram???
-
Dude, the old G50s weren't close to top of the line. Neither are the new ones. They're value-centric gaming notebooks. With technology changing all the time, there's always something better and cheaper in the pipeline long before you buy something 'new'. If what you have is working great, stop complaining and enjoy it.
-
I apologize for not reading the whole thread, due to being a bit busy. Google didn't help me much either so if you don't mind I'll just ask here.
The problem with my G50v at the moment is the very high pitched noise that comes out of the upper left hand corner of the machine. Sounds like it's coming from the fan area, not quite sure. It started about a week after the purchase. No way of getting rid of it. Tried cleaning up with a precision blower etc. Haven't got around to opening up the base of the computer, don't want to break anything.
Anyone here experiencing the same problem? -
If the fan is bad, then send it in for fan replacement. If it's the fan it should be correlated with the fan speed. Try pushing the notebook to increase the temp and therefore the fan speed.
Even if it's not the fan, that noise that you describe does not seem to be normal. -
Well Hopefully I will be joining in this family of proud G50v owners As soon as I hear back from xoticpc.com on a couple of questions, I will be making the order for a G50v-A1 straight away. Basically long story short, I'd like to get the Arctic Silver compound on it. I've had a long history with my current laptop Acer Travelmate 8100 (8104WLMi) with respect to overheating problems!
Once my ASUS arrives I will have more worries, as my Acer(bought March 2005) is pretty messed up, I'm gonna need to fix the display (or end up getting a new one) as now I'm using a very old CRT monitor add memory, buy a battery & buy a power pack. Just because my dad's told me that he would like the old one!
But it should be all good once the ASUS arrives !!!
EDIT: Wow, lot's of smily faces lol! -
Right, I've been looking at forums last 2 days, and now it's Late Sunday night, early Monday night,I have classes in the morning, and only now am I realising that there IS a difference between v-A1 and vt-A1. What in god's name is going on!
-
hey anybody know any other place i can buy G50VT-X2 ? Other than newegg?
-
is there someone that get's the nfs undercover runnin properly on their G50V?
In my G50 i've: sh*t fps, random lock ups, game stops to load while racing, even playin it at 640*480! That's really weird -
**This Is A Linux Install Issue**
I have an Asus G50V-X1 (The 'Best Buy' Model)
--
I've been using linux for a while now. I like to use linux on all my laptops, but this issue is vexing me at the moment:
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to install Debian Etch 4.0r3 from a 3-DVD Set, and OpenSuSE 11.0 from a DVD, as well. The problem is specific to the DVD drive not being recognized.
The occurs at the point in the linux-install process when the installers are trying to find a suitable DVD source for the install. Both Debian and OpenSuSE give me error messages stating that the DVD wasn't recognized.
I suspect it might be a hardware driver issue. It does, however, work flawlessly in Vista Home Premium, so I guess the drive must be really new and not on the general list of linux-supported dvd drives, yet.
Any assistance this might garner would be greatly appreciated.
(Note: I'm cross-posting this in the linux forums, as well, so if it gets relegated to one or the other, I understand; no problem.)
Warm Regards,
Firefishe -
anyone have BSOD issues with the newest video drivers from laptopvideo2go? my machine is constantly BSOD'ing on me, and always for different reasons, and always at different points???
-
In that case I suggest reverting to the older drivers you were using, or trying another version...

Hey guys, I've been using the supplied backpack (fugly i know) and it's already starting to wear after a few months of use. I was looking at the Velocity Spyder but i'm not sure if the 15.4 will be BIG enough to fit the extended width of the g50. I really don't want to spend the extra 20$ on the 17" model but I fear I will have to. Any of you know if it's needed/worth it for the 17" model?

There is a GREAT howto here:
http://monalisa.cern.ch/blog/2008/09/16/ubuntu-on-asus-g50v/
Except for one thing they got wrong... you can use ENHANCED MODE on the SATA controller with RAID (I do this) by setting dmraid=true at the grub menu for the installer to use the Intel ICH RAID and dual boot with windows on RAID. -
I signed up for these boards today after reading some reviews. I am the proud new owner of the of the G50VT A1 After struggling with my ACER Aspire which had so many problems with the dumb shutdowns and overheating problems, this rig is a dream. I am loving the design and color and yes, WoW does run really well on high. I can't wait to try out more games and this will be great for gaming and storing my tunes.

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new machine. Have a look at the links in the first post on this thread for useful information about this laptop.

hey guys, im in need of some help. I just recently revieved my Asus G50Vt-A2 yesterday from Lynnbay.com MODEL: Asus G50Vt-A2CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSBMEMORY: 4GB PC2-6400/800MHz DDR2 - 2 DIMMGPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS w/512MB DDR3HARD DRIVE: 2X320GB SATA-300 @ 7200RPMOS: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64bitsMy problem is when I play Microsoft Flight Simulator X, I put it at Highest settings for all catergories and play it fine for 10 to 15 minutes then out of nowhere the screen freezes and audio stutters for 5 seconds and then it goes to a blue screen which says something like \"if you are seeing this there is probably a problem with your newly installed hardware.\" Then that blue screen goes away after 15 seconds and takes me to a black screen which gives me three options to restart in safe mode. It has crashed like this while playing MFSX twice already while in Turbo overclock mode from the direct console. When I play it in normal mode once in a while you hear some audio stuttering for a few seconds but it goes away and I continue playing for however long I want. I downloaded the Prime95 application and tested the computer in turbo overclock mode under the blended test and it had no problems, I let it test for 40 minutes. During that time I noted from the speedFan application show that the cores were at 79 and 80 celcius. After that I tested again in Prime95 but in the benchmark mode. This is where after a minute or two of starting the test my laptop completely crashed and resarted straight to the black screen with the safemode options. I then again ran Prime95 in benchmark mode but this time in normal clock speed instead of Turbo overclock and it completed the test and didnt crash. What I want to know is, what is going on with my laptop? is my processor too fast for this laptop because in turbo overclock mode it jumps from 2.8GHz to 3.1Ghz as read from CPU-ID. Could it be that the reseller I got the laptop from didnt install the CPU correctly? I also did that windows experience base index score thingy and my base score is a 5.6 while running in turbo overclock mode. 5.9 for memory, 5.9 for graphics, 5.8 gaming graphics, 5.8 disk data transfer rate. With those scores wouldnt it be perfect for running high end games without crashing??? if anybody out there can help me that would be awesome. what do I have to do to get it to stop crashing?
BTW I dont know if this my post should be in here....sorry! -

I think you should update your BIOS and atk drivers if you haven't already. I run a T9600 in my G50V with no problems of the sort. However I don't overclock it, and I don't believe that direct console supports the T9600.
Try updating your bios and atk drivers. I posted links here:
