Help !! I just set up the RAID 1 and reinstalled the drivers on my new G50V-A2 and now every time I boot up I get a message "aspg.exe stopped working and was closed" message. How do I fix this? Thanks
-
are you guys running your hard drivs in a raid array? possibly raid 0. that would help with data transfer as well...mine are just set as 2 seperat hard drives, the way it cam configured
-
OK, i'm lost. Can someone tell me the order fo the G50V? Like what makes one a A1,B1,A2 etc?
-
A1 is the basic config but is actually quite good. The A2 has a blu-ray drive and 2 200GB 7200rpm drives instead of the A1's 2 320GB 5400rpm drives.
-
Actually, adyingwren is wrong.
The A2 has 2x200GB 7200rpm for a total of 400gb.
The A1 has 2x250GB 5400rpm for a total of 500gb. -
Any of you guys get issues with flickering on an external monitor when using vga out? ? I'm trying to figure out what the issue is with mine.
-
Ok, so the A1/a2/b1/b2 etc is only configurations? Its the same laptop, just with different options?
-
-
Be aware that removing the ground connection can be dangerous, however. -
-
I updated the list of useful threads in the main post.

Thanks again EBE & Greyreap

I don't think I want to tinker with the ground loop just yet, anything else I can try? Could this be a software/driver issue? -
It also depends on the particular device. At work I used 2 external monitors, one of them has a ground loop, and the other one doesn't (or at least its effects don't show). While I was using the former I removed the ground pin w/o negative effects, and it reduced the flicker significantly.
It may also be a software issue. I don't know the details but in one case some tinkering in the driver properties removed the flicker on an ASUS W7Sg connected via VGA to an external monitor. -

For the peeps a page back, there is also a newegg X1 model if I am not mistaken that gives you 4 models total.
Id pick the A1 personally for the best all around model.
As for external monitors... sounds like EBE has more experience and knowledge than me. I have yet to use mine on anything other than the built in screen.
The first and only thing I can recommend is that you try the stock drivers that come on the disk with the notebook if you happen to be using modded drivers from laptopvideo2go. I mean that fixed the issue some people were having with the A2 and blueray playback.
Goes to show that an INF file is more than just permissions to run a driver, certain features and effects can be distorted or broken if not implemented right.
Also not sure if it will help you, but I ran across a program called MaxiVista - http://www.maxivista.com/
The idea is that any computer on your network can become a secondary monitor. Neat idea, from what I gathered the first version of it is freeware but only works in XP, the new version works in Vista but your stuck with a trial or have to buy it. -
I wish Asus just releases the same notebook at BB. Its here in my town, I would just buy it. Its like a trick tho. You read online at all the specs, then you goto the store, you have to make sure its the same unit.
-
Hrmm i'll give that a try, I don't plan on really ever using the vga out, but just the fact that when I needed to test something It wasn't working right didn't sit well with me. Now I have to troubleshoot something I'll never use just because I hate myself that much.
I am using moded drivers from laptop2go, the performance boost was well worth it, curse you nvidia!
thanks for the tip though. -

Any of you guys notice a slight wobble in your screen when you're typing?
-
Well, the hinges could have been tighter then. Happens with a lot of laptops. If you're the only one getting it with this one though, it may be a problem particular to your unit. So let's wait for answers from owners
-
No wobble with my screen, I find that sometimes the screen is easily moved (depending on the angle) but not by typing.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
no wobble on my screen, but I suppose that has a lot to do with how your supporting the unit (aka sitting in your lap is much worse than sitting on a table) and also your typing form.
-
no wobble. In fact its sometimes annoying to open with one hand.

i did a recovery today off of the dvd, only to realize it never asked for the 2nd disc? what is the purpose of that disc?
-
also after the recovery my direct console quick touch key as well as the lighting bolt key do not work when hit...they just blink
-
Hello, All.
Name here is Stephen, a/k/a "Firefishe."
I recently bought a G50Vm-X1 from Best Buy. It has the following specs:
--> T5750 Processor. (Question: Where is this in the Intel CPU hierarchy?)
--> 4GB Memory
--> One 200GB Hard Drive, partitioned into, roughly, 2 100GB sections (actually a little less.)
I want to do a couple of things to this notebook:
1. I want to upgrade to a larger processor, like the Centrino 2, T9400.
2. I want to install the optional BlueTooth Module.
3. I need a detailed technical repair/disassembly-reassembly manual.
I called Asus in Fremont, California, but they wouldn't give me a manual, or a way to download it. When I asked, I was told everything from them only giving them to authorized dealers, the 'fact' that they had many different laptop models and that's why they didn't give out their manuals, as well as some element of their being proprietary hardware issues.
I've dealt with this kind of thing before, so I'm asking for help here.
I wouldn't have a problem with an authorized reseller do the work, and I would like to keep the warranty under authorization, rather than removing screws and doing it that way. (I'm not going to remove the screws without a proper manual and instruction set.)
I've done a full disassembly of my older Compaq Presario 2100 series via a disassembly manual I downloaded from hp's website, and I had no problem with the process. I doubt the process for this laptop will be much different, I just need a proper technical document.
Strangely enough, I was told I could buy the BlueTooth card, itself, from Asus directly. Strange they'll sell me the part, but won't let me have a proper manual to install it. To me, it's a bunch of hogwash. Also, they tell me it's "...mounted under the keyboard firewall," which I assume is on the board surface on the other side of the GPU/Hard Drive compartment side of things. It sounds like I'm going to have to remove the screen off this puppy; that's what I had to do with the Compaq.
I wish Asus would've combined the BlueTooth card with the WLAN card, or at least put them in the same compartment. I'm told the BlueTooth card comes with a wire, presumably the antenna wire. During the conversation, I was able to glean that the (antenna?) wire had to be run a certain way; all the more need for a proper board diagram/service manual.
So that's it, fellow G50 owners. If anyone can assist me, I may be reached here, or via the following: [email protected]
Warm Regards,
Stephen A. Brown

how long ago did you buy the laptop? your easiest bet is to probably just buy the g50v-a1, you will save time and money doing that, and get more hard drive space out of it
-
Thanks -
I think the 2nd disk is the drivers and utilities disk. Strange, it should have asked for it automatically.
That may be the reason for which this device is not working properly:
"also after the recovery my direct console quick touch key as well as the lighting bolt key do not work when hit...they just blink"
Check if you have all the drivers and required utils installed properly (ATK drivers, and ATK hotkey, are probably needed for the above functionality).
Firefishe, I reiterate the suggestion that, if you are able to return the X1, you should check the A1 or A2 models. You may be able to get what you want (and more) for similar money, without having to open it up w/o a manual and void the warranty. Even just the GPU that you plan to add may be quite expensive. -
I don't think he is talkign about the drivers disk. When you do the install, it asks for the drivers disk. It doesn't, however, ask for the second vista cd. Vicious might of have mentioned it in his review if im not mistaken, aside from my personal experience.

Go to start menu, and look for My Computer link. Right Click to reveal extended menu, choose "manage". (if user control is enabled, it will ask you if it is ok to continue. accept and continue). You get a window. Going from memory, there should be an options menu on your left side of the screen. Go to one of the last ones, to manage memory "disk management". That is it! It will display the partitions on your computer after it loads. From there, just select the "boxes" and right click. *note: it should not erase data, but be save and back up.* I personally right clicked and "delete" the partion i didn't want. Then select the partition you want to keep, and right click, "extend volume" and drag to fill up the entire space available.
On the other hand, going from Vicious' review again, use the recovery disks. Pop in cd #1, choose option number 3, "and get a new system with 2 partitions". -
the 2nd disc is also bootable? and if you boot to it, its basically the exact same as the first disc? i didn't do the full process on it as i didn't feel like doing a full recovery again???
as far as the touch sensitive keys, i will have to work on getting the drivers installed to get them working properly. just weird only 2 of them don't work where the other 2 do? -
Other issues I desire to fix are the lack of the bluetooth card, 2nd hard drive (an easy issue to remedy), and perhaps the addition of the TV tuner and a Blu-Ray RW drive later on when I'm a bit more well heeled. The T9400 would help with better playback of Blu-Ray Movies at any rate, but the bluetooth module, processor, and the 2nd hard drive are my first priorities.
As for voiding the warranty, oh well. What can a performance nut do? I also like to do my own upgrades, and from what I can see, this laptop isn't hard to put stuff in to at all. I've seen the A1 and A2, but I think at this late date it might prove more problematical to return the unit to the store. I'd much rather get the parts and install them myself. Such is the life of a tinkerer .
Thanks and Warm Regards all around.

If you are going to go through the trouble to upgrade the CPU, I suggest the P9500 instead of the T9400. Same speed, less heat and power usage.
-
The T9400 is a great chip. I was amazed with the ability to overclock it to 2.93ghz and undervolt all the way down to 1.0275v and run Prime 95 with no rounding errors and as stable as a rock (cool to). The X9100 won't undervolt at all when overclocked, it's one or the other.
I won't go into to much detail because there is a place for that, but I'll be listing an excellent T9400 in the to sell section very shortly. If you would like to pm me I can give more details. -
What do the labels of the two DVDs say?
-
i still think that your best bet if i you want blu ray and everything else you listed, is to get the g50v a2 then. you will probably in the long run save lots of money and hassles,
the dvd's are just labeled exactly the same, one saying disc 1 of 2, one saying 2 of 2??? -
Two things:
I updated my nVidia drivers from the standard ones at laptop2go, but I recently found these:
http://files.filefront.com/Nvidiarar/;11897734;/fileinfo.html
and are suppossed to be better. I haven't tried them at all yet, but if anyone wants to give it a try I guess. Found them off Asus support forum.
Second thing, I was using my cd burner on my A1 other day, and then I noticed that I had LightScribe Label software installed. I know for a fact that Asus lists G50V (x1 and A1) Models as having lightscribe, but when i used the software it said I had no compatible hardware (no lightscribe hardware found message) so stupidly of me, I deleted the software because I thought it was from the generic install cd. Now that I read some posts here, some say it does have lightscribe. Does an A1 ACTUALLY have lightscribe, or is it just a regional thing? Also, if it does, how would i go about finding my? -
anyone having an issue where if you have your lid closed, and you then open it. your resolution shrinks down to 1280X768?
its not all the time....but it is quite frequent
also as i have noted before, i did a recovery off the dvd, and my direct console and media center touch sensitive keys are not working?
I installed all of the drivers, and went online to make sure i didn't miss any, and i still can't get them working
anyone else having this issue? or does anyone know exactly what i need to install to get them working? -
Digitalfirex, if there is Lightscribe, shouldn't the drive door have the logo?
Eddie Winslow, it looks like a GPU driver problem, ATK (ACPI) driver problem, or a combination of the two. I would suggest trying different (newer?) versions in this order, GPU, then ATK. -
Hey everybody! Just got my G50V-A2 a couple days ago. This is also my first post here.
I plan on writing a quick review on how well this laptop works as a development workstation, and especially how well it works with Linux, etc. as I didn't buy it for gaming.
It is a little larger in person than I thought it was but not imposingly so. On the plus side it's also lighter than I expected. Everything worked like it should have and I have no major complaints so far. The only thing I was surprised by was that the modem port is blocked by a rubber insert and it seems that option isn't included, at least not in Canada on the A2. No biggee I probably would have never used it anyway. -
-
I reinstalled all the driver and it didn't help, from what I found it has to be a newer version to work. Newest synaptics driver fixed the Touchpad hotkey, Direct Console 2.0.5 (not 2.0.3) fixed my Drirect Console hotkey. Power4Gear one never stopped working for me. Media Center key still doesn't work.

Ha, like i didn't think of that? That was the reason I got rid of the lightscribe software, but then i noticed that bestbuy advertises Asus G50VM as having lightscribe... and their images of the computer do not show a logo on the drive. If that is the case then it is false advertising as far as I am concerned... sounds stupid of my part but I did pick my G50V over other computers based on features, and lightscribe was one feature that I strongly take in mind, as I actually use it. -
I've just ordered my G50V-A1! I want to replace my aging (but solid) Sony Vaio PCG-K15. I live in a remote (fly-in) community in northern Ontario where it is just not practical to ship up a desktop rig. I've been looking for a fast daily workhorse notebook, but I also enjoy gaming in my spare time. The G50V-A1 seems to be exactly what I need.
I will have to get a USB modem because I still use dial-up for Internet when the weather disables our satellite system (I welcome specific recommendations based on you experience). I also want to find a cost-effective way to support my old parallel port printer, though that is less important. While new printers are cheap, shipping them here is neither cheap nor easy.
The G50V has shipped, so it should be here sometime next week! -
Gollan, I'm sure the place where you live has its advantages that counter the shipping difficulties. -
is there anyway to modify which program opens up when you hit the touch sensitive keys...i never use media centre, so if i could program the media centre key to something else that would be nice?
-
Have a look at ASUS Notebook Keys (Info Booth, "Customize ASUS Hotkeys")
-
is info booth a program??? or is it a thread in these forums? could you link me to which ever it is please?
