Yay, just picked up my g1s today.
mm, dunno if anyone has tried yet, but i fired up HL2, 1024 /768 res (it was the one already selected), max settings, and 6 * AA? , and it ran smooth as silk throughout the starting areas, FPS from Net_graph 3 ranged from 99 - 299, didnt drop below that. although thiers not much action in these areas, so maybe its not the best showing of the g1s ability .. it looks great though..
ALSO... anyone could please help. I have a Bravia 32 inch V series tv, HDMI to HDMI from laptop.. Video shows fine.. but am getting no audio from tv.. just from laptop.. any suggestions? anyone with same prob?
cheers. -
kingpinner, does your audio usually come out of the TV or out of your home theater system? I'm asking because in my setup, the TV speakers are muted and the audio comes out of the home theater. If I tried what you are doing, I would have to either unmute the TV speakers or send the laptop audio through the home theater.
-
Audio just comes out of TV. i dont have any other external speakers.
im sure it should work HDMI to HDMI, from what ive read it should do audio through the cable. -
oh and heres a screen of HL2, boring i knw (just wanna show fps), but am too tired to play, plus exams soon so would feel too guilty

And how does it look on the G1s's screen ? Did you try in native resolution (wxga+) ?
-
it looks good, although i feel the colors are coming out a bit dull, although that may be a setting i need to adjust, because when i output onto my LCD tv, it just looks amazingly vivid and beautiful.
what do you mean by native resolution, sorry thiers some terms im not that familiar with, my desktop when i started my g1s has been 1680 BY 1050, so is that the native reso? if so, i did try and match that resolution in game, but could not find that specific resolution, so have just been using 1024 / 768. *edit HL2 at 1600 - 1024 below. will do oblivion tomoro if wanted.
just tried oblivion (1024/768 , vsync, bloom, distant trees, landscape, buildings) and it was pretty smooth through the beginning.. eg the tunnels with all the rats and goblins, 3 enemies on screen no slowdown.)
just a random screen of some guy attached.
*also, i havent uninstalled any of the bloatware, well, to be honest, i have no idea what to remove, it all seems like it all should be thier.. besides Norton which ive taken of. Anyone with g1s can specifically tell me if thiers something i should remove.
*and please if anyone knows a fix for my HDMI audio prob as desacribed a couple of posts above.Attached Files:

hmm. ok, heres HL2 same settings as above (max, 6x AA) but at 1600 / 1024. exact same place.. xcept damn extra and professor on video screen showed up, so couldnt replicate condition exactly. you can see the frames did drop, but gameplay remained silky smooth

Then if the TV is fine, maybe there is a setting on the laptop too. Just like for SPDIF, usually you have to activate it in the sound settings. Maybe there is one for HDMI? -
bleh, decided to try oblivion again tonight, 1600 - 1024. (ultrahigh preset).. vsync- HDR, distant trees, landscape, buildings)
it felt a bit choppy with 1 enemy on screen, and walking around. I guess Ultra high was asking a bit much of it, it was playable in the area i was in, but im sure outside it may not be able to cope. im sure at a lower setting, g1s will be able to cope easily.
attached = just screen, me vs enemy with the settings described in this postAttached Files:

How about those in game benchmarks for the F3SV? And Ken, did you get that memory in the F3SV-B1 when you did the benchmark? I *think* the images say that the F3SV has only 1008 mb of memory (someone else mentioned this too, but I don't remember anyone answering him). This could account for part of the lousy benchmarks for the 8600 GS...
-
F3SV-B1 3DMark06 Score 2068 at 1280X1024 dual-channel 2GB
F3SV-B1 3DMark06 Score 2032 at 1280X1024 single-channel 1GB
the rest of the benchmark score of F3SV-B1 on page one are tested with 1GB. -
with hl2 the settin was definately on 6x AA, oblivion had AA off.
:X
anyways, anyone had the saem HDMI HDMI audio prob as me? -
what is AA ? can u translate plz some kind of a new video improvement??
thx -
Maybe u can find a solution here, I haven't really read through all threads though

AA means Anti-Action. When the action in a game is too darn complex, AA blurs it so that the user does not become completely excited or overwhelmed... or perhaps crap his pants or something.
Ok, seriously... it means Anti Aliasing. It's a method to smooth the image. I suggest googling for the term.
Edit: By the way, AA is nothing new. Been there for years. -

Anti-Aliasing, it is the blending of the colors on the edges of 3D objects to get rid of the "jaggy" effect. The jaggy effect is caused by the fact that you can't make a flat diagonal line using a bunch of squares (pixels). AA tricks the eye into thinking that the jaggies aren't there.
-
So what do u guys Recommend? activate AA and lose game speed but with a smooth screen, or should we disable the AA gaining speed/FPS ??
-
AA is the first thing you disable if your card can't handle a game at full settings. Next, you generally lower the resolution.
-
And I must add while the AA seems so easy, it basically kills off many GPUs because it includes rendering at a far higher resolution (2x - 4x or more) and then down sampling to your desired resolution.

I would say get rid of AA first, AF second, kill a couple of unimportant graphical plusses (shadows, bloom [which I think is ugly]) then hit the resolution after that, usually allowing you to increase other options with it.
-
so a 8600m GT (Asus G2S) at 1900x1200 running OBLIVION for example (give me mor examples) would not run good as it could disabling the AA ?so
i would gain like 10% ? 20% ? whats the Real difference between AA - no AA??
My game screen would get ugly without AA ? or its slightly noticed?
AF = What ?
Call of Duty 2, World of Warcraft, etc would run good with a AA considering a G2S
thx again -
for oblivion, you can check the following link and get an idea what a 8600m GT will do..remember that is a desktop 8600 so you will want to discount that performance accordingly...maybe 85-90% i am not really sure.

for WoW....i think you can max out everything with 6xAA/16AF without problem.. -
what is a AF ?, 6xAA mean there are 6 Anti Aliasing working ?
What is FP HDR ?
so this Oblivion Test is just with HDR + Aniso x16
wheres the AA test? or Aniso is another name to "AA" ?]
thx its helping a lot =) -
This will seem a little bit off-topic because this thread was originally created as a benchmark one.
The thing is that i bought a G1S and i'm having certain issues with it.
1.- I noticed the Bluetooth device is not good at all. (My previous laptop was an Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi)... I have a Sony Ericsson W810i and i use Float's Mobile Agent to control my cell phone using my laptop, and the communication between them is terrible. I can't walk with the phone in my pocket more than 3 meters because it will surely lose the connection. My old Acer used to give me like 6 or 7 meters.
2.- I have a wireless router at home, and everything was working fine in that matter until i installed World of Warcraft. As soon as i start playing WoW my wireless network connection drops, causing the game to disconnect and i have to go to Network Sharing Center to connect to my wireless router again. This is a known issue, because i have been reading on forums about it, but no one seems to understand why this happens.
Since you are the only people i have found talking about this new laptops, i'm posting this here. Any help will be appreciated.

i have been planing to get the F3SV for quite a while now but this thread has crushed me. i cant afford to pay an extra £300 for the g1s. Does anyone have any real life benchmarking for the 8600m gs and does any one recon it would handle crysis? I currently play games like BF2142, doom 3 , fear and CSS on my pc. Also whats this business about overclocking a gpu. I never thought u could in a notebook. Is it complicated?
Thanks for any feedback -
well if you think about it, 500 dollars is like a lot of money to buy graphical power.

Some BF2 screenshots with G1S:

nice pics Ken.
I would be great if u could post some non-resized pics too. -
-
People usually use the Fraps application.

I just realised that you captured the FPS on BF2, nice numbers!
-
Is it the first or second number which shows the fps
The first numbers are kind of low.... -
I think the first one is the lowest(which is pretty good imo) and the second one is the avg..
-
My Microsoft Vista System Ratings for the processor on a new g1s is only 4.4
Why so low?
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz 4.4 4.4
Memory (RAM) 2.00 GB 4.7
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 5.9
Gaming graphics 1023 MB Total available graphics memory 5.5 -

GentechPC, Can u do Exactly the same Teste with BF2 and its Configurations but on a G2S, so we can see if is there any big difference between then since the 3dmark06 is not accurate as we expected on a (1024x778res.)
so do the same, but if u can try it on a 1024x768 too, on both G1S and G2S
Thx =) -
-
Thx again, if its possible , post the same test but with the G2S, in the G2S-benchmark's Thread
ps: is the First number the higher FPS and the second number the Lower ?
^^ -
-
how about the second number ?
at last, post the same test but with all configs at MID and no AA or just 2xAA
nice just wondering how good it can be
thx
