1024X768 is deffinitly not an option, I play on 1440XXXXX, It runs awsome, I've never had a problem with FPS, It's more of a Multiplayer issue, not a singleplayer problem.

I have just pre-ordered an Asus G1S-A1, which will arrive here in Holland on the 10th of August. It is customizable and I have already ordered it with 7200RPM 160GB HDD but I'm not sure about the memory. The standard is, of course, the 2*1024MB DDR2 667MHz. However, there are several upgrades available, namely:
1*2048MB @ 667MHz (costs: 65€; roughly 90$)
2*1024MB @ 800MHz (costs: 99€; roughly 135$)
2*2048MB @ 667MHz (costs: 155€; roughly 210$)
What do you guys think? Is any of these upgrades worth it's money?
Also I would like to know if any of you has experienced any strange problems with the G1S(stuff like unrecognised hardware, dead pixels etc.).
When I get my G1S I will try to do some FEAR, 3D-Mark and Guild Wars tests at different resolutions and post the results here too.
Thanks,
Speedy -
800mhz RAM is not supported in the G1s.
-
-
Well 4GB will be useless unless you use a 64bit OS. The sweet spot would be 1GB+2GB 667mhz RAM.
-
See, that doesnt make sense. 1+2gb. By doing that, dont you loose speed for not having matching ram?
-
I doubt the performace hit will be very high. Maybe 2-5% [or more I'm not really sure.].
-
...and compare that performance hit to the hit of not having enough RAM and having to hit the page file.
-
Is it just me or was i not able to see the pics of FEAR on the 8600 GS?
-
I have an F3SV and I'm using rivatuner to monitor the GPU temps , and at default clocks (540/399.6), the temperature hovers around 80, and goes up to 90 when running 3dmark06 tests. Even when i overclocked to (640/500), the temperatures remained in the same regions. Do these temps seem a bit high?
-
GPUs are designed to take a tremendous amount of heat, which will definitely happen during intensive tasks. The 8600M GT on my G1s stays around 70 with a notebook cooler.
-
-
That's actually high. While it's below the safety zone, it's close to it.
-
nice thread, I've read it, and im guessing what would be the results of the 8600GS and 2Gigaof ram with 1Giga of Readyboost; anyone can tell us if there is a real difference with an without readyboost ? thanks !
-
-
They go to 85C with case open and the ambiant temp being 18C
It might be lower on a laptop but no way it's under 100. -
Shutdown zone on my go7700 is 110C. Warnings zone is 100C. During load (while OC'd)n it's mid 70's. Whil Idle it's mid 50's. And I'm not so sure how good my fan is...

Will the ASUS warranty be voided if an upgrade was to be to be made to a 7200 RPM HDD in the future?
-
No, upgrading the hard drive would not void the warranty.
-
-
Upgrading your RAM or your Harddrive are fine as long as no damage occurs. If damage occurs to your system because of those components then yes it does void you warranty. Also if damage occurs while upgrading also voids warranty. Similar rules apply to PCI E or mini-PCI cards, aswell as batteries etc.
The only things that will void warranty once upgraded are Video RAM. Also, You cannot upgrade your Processor though becuase that will void the warranty as well. -

That's basically correct, there are seals in certain areas. One of them is located where the CPU is, and in order to change the CPU you will have to break the seal. Which will void the ASUS warranty, but then you will get the Reseller warranty.
Upgrading Ram and the HD are not too hard, but just go slowly and try not to damage anything. -
Anyone out there with Call of Duty 2 benchmarks for G1S with 2GB and 3GB of RAM?
Is this for the laptop only or it's the same for all pcs? -
I forgot to show the RivaTuner window, but it was at 660/560 clocks, with latest drivers from Asus. -
-
Yea, as i said, stock was 500/400, and i oc'd to 660/560
-
i just installed ghost recon aw2 on my f3sv with 3GB of RAM...everythng looks smooth but all I see during battles is white!!!! waht should I do, is it a VGA or bios problem???
-
Sounds like a driver problem

thx ken im tryin it rite now. i dled the latest driver for the 8600GS (i think its the 162.55 or smth) but i cant install it and it says that it cant detect any hardware thats compatible....and it says it only supports vista 32 bit...which im using....lol. cheers
-
-
damn seems like things are more complicated when it comes to vista....if this game doesnt work ill return it for like c&c3 or the BF2 battlechest
-
btw, the screen looks really BRIGHT too...perhaps its cuz of the gamma, but how do i change it?
-
Reduce the brightness?
Fn key + F5. -
what i mean is that things look whiter than usual. i just compared the screen on my w3v the my new f3sv and the w3 looked significantly yellower. the f3 is just looking really bright and the words look kinda blurry. when its on full brightness it lookers sharper but colored pics still have a white tintish feel.
how do i change the gamma??? cheers
btw ken, the direct X fix thing didnt change the problem...seems like ill be returning my game and fighting with the shop guy for some different game! any last hopes for fixes??? i just got the latest driver from ASUS anyways... -
Think the new screens can display truer white or something, my G1S's whites are more white than that on my VAIO S360 (2 years gap)... to change the gamma:
right click on desktop, select nvidia control panel, click on adjust desktop color settings, and change it from there. -
-
LOL i spent the last two days talking to EA ppl and they finally registered my BF2 complete edition....my f3 is treatin me well right now hope everything goes smoothly. Does anyone know how to change the VGA BIOS? i heard that ASUS purposefully downclocked the mem. to 400 as it shoud be runnin at 700....

Hey men, could you be so kind to tell me how open the window "Hardware Monitoring-Nvidia......" as the pictures in the first page shows?
(I have an asus g1s)

Hi to all,
I have just registered on this forum. I followed most of the posts about asus laptops and I decided to buy a decent laptop for school. I got the Asus F3SV-B1. And thats where my problems started.
First of all, when I received it the keyboard was loose in the top left corner. But I fixed that easily by myself.
Then, I realized that my video card had a slow ram (ddr2, 400mhz) and that I cannot use nvidia forceware drivers because the 8600GS in this laptop is technically an asus (modified nvidia). but I can live with that, im not gamming anyway (maybe just light games, NHL 08 for exampe).
Also, when I plug my laptop for charging, I keep hearing a buzz when I am in power saving mode. When I switch to Performance, the buzz is gone.
Now, my big problem. My hard disk keeps loading/unloading the heads in landing zone. I hear frequent click when the disk is idle. My disk is a Segate Momentus 5400.3 ST9160821AS.
I installed "active smart" to monitor SMART data and I realized that everytime I hear a click, the "load/unload cycle count" gets increased by 1.
I wrote an email to seagate and they told me to replace the disk.
<<Dear customer ,
thank you for your emial .
A clicking noise mean at 80% of the case to an hardware issue (head touching the platter).
Please replace the drive as it will be worse in the futur >>
I am pretty sure this is not a sign of failure, but I dont know why does my hdd unload the heads so often (about once every 10 seconds or so when idle).
Does this have to do with power saving? My power saving settings dont show any HDD power down time, its set to "never" everywhere.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong here ?
I used my laptop for 4 days and SMART data show 2000 load/unload cycles. I dont know what was the original value, but I record 300 cycles a day (over 10 hours of use).
Please let know what you think.
Thank you to all taking the time to read this post,
GT_Cristian. -
Perhaps it would be better to post in the F3sv Owner's thread, but I'll try to answer your questions.
1) You can use nVidia Forceware drivers, but you either have to use their mobility drivers, or modify the installation file so it will recognize your hardware (you can get moded drivers like these from LaptopVideo2Go).
2) Is the buzz you hear kind of a whine? It could be the CPU speed step, which has been reported before. If you search for CPU whine you should find the fix.
3) I'm guessing it's a hardware problem on the drive, I'd recommend replacing it. -

ok, i was on the verge of getting an F3Sv but after seeing how much the 8600m GS under performs in comparison to the 8600m GT, im having second doubts. i was in love with the f3sv especially because the g1s was just out of my price range.
im also seriously disappointed at how bad the 8600m GS performs after overclocking!
Can anyone tell me the difference in FPS in real world tests?
Is the GS such a bad card after all? its only meant to be a step down from the GT!
i was hoping to do some gaming: css, and cod2-like demanding games. maybe even some cod4 when it comes out, but if the 8600 GS is really not all that worth it, maybe i wont go ahead and buy the F3Sv after all.. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
what version 8600M do i have, i emailed HP about the graphics card and their reply was this
"In response to your query regarding, the Graphics card in this machine the 8600m is a GDR3 memory type and has a clock speed of1600mhz also the Windows Vista operating system that is installed is a 32 bit version of Vista Home premium." -
You have the HP dv95xx series notebook, right? That's an 8600M-GS, though in the U.S. at least it seems to be factory underclocked on the core and use DDR2 memory. (stock at 500/400(800) instead of 600/700(1400))

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
so is the graphics card good or what?
what does the Mhz do, is higher = better?
would this laptop last about 2-3 years in gaming (im not expecting amazing graphics but atleast good)
