Not happy with this notebook, all kinds of problems, bad install of windows, HD full of bad sectors, OS lost after replacing HD, poor build quality, no access to OEM ISO...

I will be looking at other companies for my next notebook!

    PS:

If you ever open this unit, you might want to re-torque every screw you can see, since they were all lose including the ones for the CPU/GPU on my unit.

Is there a list with the most optimal drivers for:

    Windows 7
    Windows 8
    Windows 8.1

There's only a few drivers on ASUS site for Windows 8.1 :(

My laptop is pretty slow. I read that expresscache is what allows the speed boot in this laptop. I have no idea if it ever worked but it doesnt work now. I installed the newest version opened the program and nothing happens.
Went in cmd and entered some lines I found on another site to check the status and it said expresscache is expired! expired last year, basically when I bought it. How do I fix this?

I also cant seem to get Widi working either. Again, dont know if its always been broken.. never could try it. Just bought a new tv that has widi. Tried to connect on the laptop and first it gave me an error and wouldnt even open the program. Then I updated and it will now open but it wont find anything. Ive tried updating, reinstalling everything I could think of that might affect the program. Cant figure it out for the life of me! any ideas???

It upgraded just fine for me, but my RAID-0 got detected as a SSD (defrag was enabled) until I ran "winsat disk" from the commandline. You have to have all previous updates, and then it should show up in the store.

My ux32vd was very unstable, crashed several times, finally, event viewer reported bad sectors.
I also notice that the CPU was running slow, always below spec!
I did a internet search on the hard drive, and it was benchmarked as one of the worst Hard Drives ever !
I then looked for the best drive that was 500gb and settled with WD5000LPVX.
Tried to use the USB recovery drive, but no luck, will have to buy a retail version.
While I was inside the unit I found that all the screws, Display hindge, chassis, and cpu/gpu were all loose !
After reassembling, I installed win8.1 trial to test the system and found that the cpu was peaking at 2.9ghz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This unit was in factory condition, so ASUS has a quality issue, my advice would be to anybody who has this unit in stock condition have it serviced by a trusted service person ASAP.

If you want to see if expresscache is working open a command window as admin. and go to C:\program files\condusiv technologies\expresscache\

    Then type ccmd -info

I did a similar cmd before and thats how I found out it was expired. Copying what you wrote did not work for me:

This is what worked for me:

    C:\>cd C:\Program Files\Diskeeper Corporation\ExpressCache
    C:\Program Files\Diskeeper Corporation\ExpressCache>ECCmd.exe -INFO

I cant remember the exact date I purchased the laptop, but it was Aug-Sept 2012
Maybe I just need a different version of ExpressCache?

Can't help with the slow issue but I can say widi is pretty flaky. It didn't work for me for a long time but finally got it working by going to the intel site and getting the latest drivers. Still not the best though.

I successfully upgraded to Win 8.1 when it came, but in the Device Manager there is still a problem with Intel WiUSB and the "USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller", which is marked with an exclamation mark. Driver version is 1.0.20.12466; Properties | General states:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

First of all thanks for your reply Duct Tape. Anyway I already knew that software and that thread, I was hoping that there could be an hardware solution or internarl software solution...I mean something related to the bios (some setting) o just and adjuments but not with an external sw.

But it looks like we have nothing new so far....am I right?

You need to go to ASUS's site and download Expresscache, whichis made by Condusiv Technologies. It seems there are two companies using the same name.

Unfortunately there's nothing that I know of. I am sure the BIOS can be edited somehow but I'm not up for bricking my machine over the matter. I've been using this software which just overwrites the fan controller registers every 100ms or so. On my old computer I lost fan control when upgrading the GPU, so I built my own crude basic manual fan controller with switches and resistors. I'd rather not do that again though :)

I have the UX32VD with 24GB iSSD. I bought Samsung 840 pro 128GB and installed win7 on it.
Now i need Ubuntu, installed it to USB but cant boot from it.
I think the windows needs to be installed in UEFI mode, where do I change it on BIOS??? I have the 214 bios.
I thought to install Ubuntu to iSSD, but I think it wont boot like from the USB drive.
If i upgraded ram to 10GB, does the OS still uses the iSSD to express-cache?

Black screen from the time I press the On button. No ASUS logo, no BIOS. Am running Win8.1, works fine connected to an external monitor. When I look in Device Manager, only the external monitor is listed under Monitors.

Any ideas before I return it?

    Tried Fn+F8. No luck.
The last time I used it without an external screen was about a month ago, before upgrading from Win8 to 8.1 and upgrading the NVIDIA driver. Haven't moved it off my desk since I last used it without an external screen, so no impact that could cause something to work loose.
I've tried starting in Safe Mode and rolling back the NVIDIA driver, and reinstalling both the Intel and NVIDIA driver. My theory is that something in the computer couldn't handle the low-80s temperatures (as shown by NoteBook FanControl) I get when gaming, .

This is the computer I use for work, so I hate to have to send it back to ASUS. It's a replacement for the original I bought about a year go, which was in the ASUS shop three times and like five or six weeks total. On the first one, had problems with screen flicker when I changed the angle of the screen, then a bad iSSD unit and no keyboard backlighting after the iSSD repair along with some serious scratching around the screws.

    Hi all,

I've only had this laptop for a few weeks with barely any use and I'm experiencing some kind of "sleep" problem. Most of the times when I close the lid, the laptop doesn't go to sleep, the fan ramps up, but the screen remains black. The power button light remains on and the only thing I'm able to do is hold the power button down for a cold shutdown. It's getting very annoying and I'm afraid of corrupting the iSSD (32gb) since the last UX32VD laptop I had probably died from cold shutdowns. I've only upgraded my ram using Kingston ValueRam 8gb 1600mhz.

I've tried searching Google for anyone else having this problem, but didn't find anyone with a solution. Has anyone else had this problem and were able to fix it?? Any type of help is appreciated!

    Thanks

Sometimes Windows updates will fix those sleep problems, make sure you are up to date on those. Also make sure your power settings for "when I close the lid" is set to put the computer to sleep.

    Thanks for the reply,
I have all windows updates installed and the power setting you suggested under every power option. I'm getting this sleep problem even when I use the FN + f1 (sleep) button. It also seems like I'm getting this problem after medium-heavy use of the laptop, if I were to restart my computer and go to desktop then close the lid, it goes into sleep mode without any problems. But once I start reading pdfs or just watch a movie using VLC for a couple of hours, it doesn't seem to sleep properly..
When the computer is able to sleep, it could be in sleep mode for a couple of days before I use it again (typically never shut down), could this lead to any problems?

That's true. I just tried the "Automatic Repair" option for windows 8 and see if that changed anything, if not then I'll try the hibernation option.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi all,

My system has become quite slow during heavier tasks and I thought if maybe I should use the Windows 8 Refresh PC option. My laptop came preinstalled with Winndows 8 and it shows that I have several recovery partitions (350mb, 600mb and 20gb. As I understand they should also contain factory version of Windows? I haven't changed anything and all partitions are as they came from the factory. My question is since I updated to windows 8.1 will I be still able to use the refresh pc option under windows without needing any CD-s? And if not, should I use the Asus version mentioned on this support site ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Troubleshooting and the option "Recover Windows to first partition only" To get my C drive running a fresh installation on windows? I like the option to refresh from windows more since I get to keep my files. Any advice regarding the question would be greatly appreciated since I don't understand the different options very well and I don't even own a CD drive if anything shoukd happen

Are the mSATA SSDs in the UX32VD-DS72 replaceable? Only found information on replacing the models that uses only a single HDD or HDD + iSSD.

I think they are. They're Sandisk X100 mSATA SSDs in RAID 0 connected to a proprietary 2.5" SATA card. iirc someone on here has a picture of them.

I have been having random shutdown, such as "memory dump" I get a blue screen turn off the computer and restart and everything works fine. It happens after I have the computer on for several days.

Also when I do Asus live update it says computer is up to date. The last update was done Oct of 2012 shouldn't Asus have pushed out new updates since then? Also runnning Win 7

Others may have better information but I have found that Asus stops issuing updates fairly soon after releasing a computer. I have a three year old Asus gaming laptop that hasn't seen any updates in over two years. You may want to look on the website as sometimes their tool isn't accurate.

Hi All, I am thinking of buying the UX32VD-DS72. This one comes with dual graphics (Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Nvidia's 620m) as well as dual 128GB ssd.

Could existing owners clear up some questions before I make the dive?

    1) I have read reviews for the UX32VD (not sure if it applies to DS72 variant?) that one hard drive is soldered on and the other is upgradable. In the DS72 variant, are the 128 GB ssds both upgradable or just one of them? If only one is upgradable, should I buy mSATA or SATA ssd for the replacement? If only one is upgradable, is the non-upgradable ssd using an ASUS proprietary connector or is it soldered on to the motherboard (what's the difference between proprietary connector vs being soldered)?

    2) I want to upgrade the ram. It's not clear to me if the DS72 variant still uses DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) with Cas Latency of 11? If so, which one would be good:
    CORSAIR ValueSelect 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSO8GX3M1A1600C11 - Newegg.com
    - or -
Patriot Signature Model PSD38G1600L2S Laptop Memory - Newegg.com

    3) In reference to (1), I was thinking of getting Samsung 840 500GB ssd to replace either one or both (if possible) the 128 GB:
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

However, it states that the height is 7.11mm. I believe the UX32VD requires 7mm. is this a mistype by Newegg or will it not work in this laptop? I do not wish to do any modifications on the ssd.

Also, is this mSATA or SATA? Which do I require for the replacement ssd?

    Thanks to all!

    Welcome to NBR, saucehat!

    1) The 128GB SSDs are standard mSATA ones, on a proprietary (I think) board that occupies a standard 7mm SATA III drive bay (ie: the laptop itself has a standard SATA connector, and the DS72 variant has an adapter board to go from standard SATA to 2xmSATA drives). Inside are two Sandisk X100 128GB MLC SSDs in RAID 0 by default. Nothing is soldered, it's all user-replaceable. I am unsure what happens if you mismatch the mSATA SSDs.

    2) The DS72 uses 1600MHz CL11 as you state. Either one of those you linked should be fine, I'm not sure how much power the low voltage ones use but it's up to you if that makes it worth it. You can use any DDR3 1600 module though, and it will clock itself to the fastest speed possible. I got a 1x8GB1600 CL 10 and it "downclocked" to 1333 CL 9, which is sometimes faster sometimes slower than 1600 CL11. Check out this article for more info, you'll find the speeds really don't matter much: AnandTech | Memory Scaling on Haswell CPU, IGP and dGPU: DDR3-1333 to DDR3-3000 Tested with G.Skill

    3) That EVO drive should work fine, especially if it's 7mm. 9mm drives apparently fit but you have to crack them open and invert the connector board so it's upside down (either that or leave the board out of their enclosure).

    Hope this helps!

No, it is done at the hardware level (through the BIOS). The chipset has native RAID/TRIM support.

Hey guys I'm having a problem with my sound and video...

Whenever I listen to music on YouTube or via VLC or iTunes or whatever and I click "new tab" on chrome or go to different tabs or open webpages etc the audio has a like a half of a second skip.

Does anyone know what I mean or had a problem like this before? I use to have this a while ago until I reformatted and about 2 months later I have this problem again..

I noticed the same problem using youtube and chrome. I don't use itunes neither vlc so I don't know anything about these two softwares, but on youtube started a couple of weeks ago.
Imho it's an issue with chrome itself, nothing related with the laptop. It wouldn't have sense

I want to upgrade my gfs laptop for xmas. Was hoping to get on some deals that are happening

For ssd I was thinking about:
Newegg.ca - SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) or The 256 one
Just need to decide if she really needs 500gb. Either one will fit tho, right? I read it has to be 7mm. I just want to make sure these are the right ones.
Is this ssd a good choice?

I have no idea what ram I should get tho. I want to max it out. I think I can add 8gb to get 10gb total, correctl? I did buy a stick awhile ago but I returned it because it wasnt the right Latency.\
    Any Suggestions?

That is software raid since its processed by the cpu. Hardward raid would have a dedicated controller with dedicated ram.

Sorry to change the subject guys: I already have the Win 8.1 upgrade available in my store.
Who already upgraded the OS? Is it better or should I keep the system without upgrade?
Pros and Cons guys .. please !
    Thanks,

I've been searching this thread (and just generally reading around the web as much as I can) to see if there is some solid info on swapping out the front bezel and matte screen for the UX31A's full touchscreen.

Regardless of the why do it reasons ( I have mine) I'd like to see if anyone has some hard data on the LCD connection at the motherboard and Touchscreen connections / drivers / etc.

Another obvious item is - will the full glass front bezzled screen match up with the backing metal plate that surrounds the existing UX32VD for a clean look - or will the entire surrounds (front and back) have to be replaced and swapped in. In which case - do the hinges and hardware match up?

Since the UX302LG is being withheld from the american market (where I live) for some inexplicable reason (who do I have to dragon punch in the face for that malicious choice?!) - a Touch Screen imbued 32VD is what I'm looking at Frankensteining together ;D

Any idea, if you can buy such an adapter as a retail version?

The link for the cpu/gpu repasting guide is not working, anyone have a working link for that? Or is it dead?
Did anyone try this, and what were the results? How much did they manage to drop the temperature?

Anyone still having issues with the WiFI performance after replacing the Intel 6235 adapter? I installed an Intel 7260 adapter, but the system still suffers from poor WiFi range. Speed is good when I am near the router but going just 2 rooms away it drops way. It did improve after replacing the adapter but compared to other laptops I have tested in the same location, its very poor. Using either 5GHz or 2.4GHz does not matter, although the latter is better. Also connected to different routers does not seem to improve the range.

I am starting to wonder if there is an issue with the antenna's, or if even the new Intel 7260 adapters also still have problems. I am wondering if anyone else has replaced their WiFi adapter and if so your experiences with the new adapter, especially if it was a Intel 7260. Thanks.

    Dear all,

I am also an owner of UX32-VD for more than a year. I want to get the notebook formatted but i am having issues whether i could successfully format the computer or not. Is there any how to do page for this machine to format. I am not a newbie for formatting but i have uncertainities because of Windows 8 and Asus drivers. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Use the link below to create a bootable Windows 8 USB installer. I would download all the drivers you need for Windows 8.1 on to a flash drive and copy them to the PC after you finish installing Windows 8.

How To Install Windows 8 From USB Key | Ghacks

I would preform these steps in this order:

    1. Install Windows 8 from USB
    2. Run Windows Update and install all updates available (You may need to run it 2-3 times to get all updates)
    3. Install Windows 8.1 Update
    4. Install NVIDIA Display Drivers
    5. Install Intel Display Drivers
    6. Install all missing drivers (You can use Windows 8 drivers if you there are no equivalent ones for 8.1)

Note: Asus only has the two display drivers and a Bluetooth driver for Windows 8.1 so what I would do is I would just install those drivers and then use any of the regular Windows 8 drivers if there are still some missing.
