For Win8.1, you need to install new BIOS Ver: TAICHI21AS.211 and then your tablet functionality on the exterior screen will 100% working

Hi,
I have a question for ASUS TAICHI 31 OWNERS...
I've encountered a problem when it comes to protecting my laptop...I've become paranoid that the touchscreen will break (it broke within 3 days of having it and I was luckily able to get it replaced) and I don't see a Taichi Suit specifically for it (like the one that was made for the Taichi 21) or any other products that are being sold to help me protect "my precious".
My question is...what do you all do to protect your laptop (other than handling it with care and getting a case(s) for it)? Please help! I don't want it to break again! Have you all found any products that I could use to protect it?
Thanks in advance! :hi2: -
I have it for 1 year, I take it with me all the time (I'm student) and I've never broken my taichi -
I have a problem with my Taichi 21, only the left half of the tablet touchscreen illuminates.
I have updated the BIOS and tried the different steps to fix touchscreen issues with no luck.
I wonder if the touchscreen has two separate back-lights for the left and right and possibly the right backlight died?
Thanks for any suggestions. -
I have the 31 and I just use it with factory settings for ease of use rather then dealing with all the issues of driver conflicts with 8.1, I haven't had any problems yet. -
I am about to become a Taichi 31 owner

congrats, It has a lot of features to enjoy. I really like the matte on the inside screen in bright rooms and the all aluminum case. The packaging is on par with apple as well.

Hello All! I am a new Taichi 31 owner and will really love the device if I can get a few things to work properly. If anyone has any suggestions on fixes I would greatly appreciate it. I am still operating Windows 8. A little concerned from all I have read about issues with upgrading to 8.1.
1) Neither of my ctrl keys function. (This is the MAJOR one for me as I use the ctrl+ functions a lot in MS Office)
2) I can't get the Taichi to recognize any of my other Bluetooth devices.
3) The keyboard backlight has begun to pulse on and off.
4) Every once in a while the touch pad smart gesture features stop responding.
I have only owned the device for a handful of days. If anything else goes wrong I may have to send it back...but I REALLY don't want to. Working properly this device meets my needs perfectly. -
Hi,
Does anyone know how or where I could get a replacement of the original sleeve for my Taichi 31?
Thanks. -

Hi,
I have bought Taichi21 with a "dead" battery. Does anybody know how to make the battery start charging? -
Hello,
I just would like to share my experience with my touchscreen issue of the outer screen. Since I have replaced the outer screen I had the problem that the outer screen is not working anymore. I have tried everything but oday I found a solution. Maybe this solution helps other Taichi owner. When I shut down Windows with the closed device (outer screen is on, but touchscreen is not working) with the help of a connected mouse the touchscreen is working after restart. I don't know why but for me it is a solution for my problem.
kind regards -
Did anyone install the Win 8.1 sw update n. KB3000850 (775,2 MB...) ?
And also the minor updates n. KB 300245 and 3044374?
The three were released toghether on April 14th 2015, and I would like to know if any problem occurred to the "automatic dual screen switch" after the updating...Last edited: May 10, 2015 -

Hi all,
Is anyone anticipating Windows 10?
Im a little sort of dreading it and see how it will affect my TaiChi 21.
Does anyone know if Asus is working on update to make it compatible for both OS and Taichi? -
Just had to replace my screen after the inner display went... thought I would share a pic of the Taichi 31 with the hood off as there don't seem to be many around. Got the replacement screen (complete unit) from Taobao China for about £120 though spent about another £20 getting it to Singapore. Didn't find out how much Asus were going to charge but I assume it would have been more and taken longer.
Screen breaking was my own fault really. It had though got to the point of being quite bent and flexible and the bezel had come off on the two short sides. I started trying to take the bezel off in the hope of reattaching and broke the inner LCD in the process, partly I think because two screws had also come out so part of the screen got lifted up too far when I was taking the bezel off (though admittedly I should have been more careful!). To be honest though I'm not sure how I would have re-stuck it anyway - bar using super glue - so I'm fairly happy to have a new less bendy screen anyway...
-
It's now working well on 8.1 so happy to wait but I do really hope it is possible to upgrade to 10 eventually... and within the free upgrade period! -
-
This may have been touched on, but my recovery partition is long gone. I'm currently running win8.1 enterprise as it was supplied through school. I'd like to hop over to 10 but obviously win8.1 enterprise isn't eligible for free upgrade. Do i need to get a recovery iso or can i just throw generic win 8 on here and have it auto activate?

Native windows 8 devices have the key in the bios, so if you look up guides for clean OEM installs of windows 8 that should work and activate.

The key in the BIOS will allow your stock OS to activate since they are perfect match.
You can run Win10 download tool to perform the upgrade process. -
Please, be so kind to confirm that, after two more weeks since you upgraded your Tahici (21 or 31?) to Win 10 b. 10158, the lid is working correctly. Thank you for your patience. -
Any of you had such an experience?

Now that it's out it should just be a case of letting it update to be on the latest build.

Hey guys!
Just updated my Win 8 Ivy bridge TAICHI 31 to 10 yesterday via the download app on Microsoft's site, and chose the option to not carry over applications, and only save my files. Thought it was a good opportunity to clean up my stuff and start new, but I didn't realize that the critical ASUS drivers would be dumped as well.
After the install, I went to Asus's site and redownloaded
Close Lid
Screen Share
Taichi Home
Taichi Display Control
and Smart Gesture
The only ones that I'm sure are working are Smart Gesture and Taichi Home.
I'm still having the issue of the notebook going to sleep when I close the lid. Also, The inner screen registers touches on the outside as mouse clicks, even when the external screen is off.
Any insight on this? -
Did my 21 from 8.1 to 10 couple days ago with full migration, and the outcome is similar to yours. Since I wrote off this unit with the previous problem concerning the dual screens and moved onto a Surface, I may see how well the roll-back recovery works.
-
At this point, the only thing I knew I had to do was to reinstall the display driver 9.17.10.2857 and so far the unit seems fine under 8.1. -
Hi Guys
I also updated my Taichi 21 from Win 8.1 to Win 10 but, among other problems, the mini HDMI link to a large external monitor would not work. I also ran RECOVERY and returned to Win 8.1 but still cannot get my external monitor to work via the mini HDMI link. I cannot remember how I originally got it to work and cannot find any information on the Internet.
Can anyone help? -
Upgraded my Taichi31 to Windows 10. Had to reinstall programs like Smart Gesture but everything seemed to be find until I tried to switch screens. Now the screen switching appears to be ok BUT rotation doesn't work! After a few restarts it does seem to work for a few seconds then stops working completely. There have also been instances where the cursor moves on the touch panel just by moving the laptop around!
Has anyone noticed that Asus has withdrawn its Windows 10 support for the Taichi? They used to have a driver section for Win 10 albeit a sparse one but now it's gone. When you check if your laptop supports Windows 10, both the 21 and 31 are not supported!
So what's going on Asus? They are Windows 8 products so they should be supported! -
Just did the update from 8.1 to 10 on my taichi31. Rotation not working.
That computer was working so fine with 8.1 I think I will load back the image of 8.1 I took before the update. Maybe it is just because I am new to win10 but I do prefer win8.1 by a big margin ...
Also when in tablet mode I do have difficulty to make the tablet keyboard appear when I need it
Have you been able to change the brightness of the outer display ? Couldnt find a way on mine ... had no problems with win8.1 to alter the brightness at allLast edited: Aug 9, 2015 -
Hey Chaps,
ASUS is getting up my nose since I bought the TaiChi. Nothing but problems to a revolutionary laptop that I love so much but on the other hand is just crap. In the past 6 months I have had 3 TaiCHis along with 4 new screen arrays. The first screen had a wierd white fuzzy line in the middle of the screen looking like it tore apart. My taichi was always in its suit, I looked after it like my newborn child. ASUS said I broke it, but it got replaced because the laptop had many other problems that couldn´t be solved by fixing. The next Taichi 21 didn´t run smoothly, the RAM seemed defective. Replaced again but I payed for an upgrade to get a 31. THis time I minutely dropped it by 1/5 of a meter after I picked it up. Outside screen shattered, inside broken too. Again, while closely examining, I had the fuzzy white line in the middle and small punctures in the screen. As I dropped it, ASUS expected a repair cost of around 600 Euros, which was just fair rudeness and I could have bought a used one on ebay for that price. No good. I decided to buy one of aliexpress and put it in myself. I undid the screws, took all of the circuits out and undid the screen mounts and connectors, put the new screen in, put everything back in and vola, fixed. Now, 4 weeks later with the laptop literally sitting on my desk the whole time I have little black "punctures" on the screen that are anoying the hell out of me after just paying 250 euros in replacements.
Am I just the only one who is constantly having problems with the hypersensitive screens? I just dont know what is happening, its such an expensive laptop to begin with and I dont really get why the screens always seem to break. Does anyone know of a way to fix my screen, can you peel the matte part off and replace it with a new one or do I have to buy a new replacement again?
Thanks in advance, would be great to hear I am not the only one with this problem.

Everything else seems to be fine working. Really hope Asus fixes these issues

I have a TaiChi 21 with the usual screen problems after Win 8.1 upgrade. I was too nervous to attempt any driver or Bios upgrades so I didn't bother. My question is : Can I upgrade to Win 10 and get my original functionality back? Also - mini HDMI output has never worked on my machine.

My first taichi21 i got had broken motherboard (my friend gave it to me). Went to EBay to get a motherboard or one with broken screen, since my screen i had was good. Found this guy that was advertizing a Taichi21 working perfect but with broken screen. Did buy this laptop and to my surprise, upon reception, the taichi that was sent was a taichi31 (13 inch screen). So i was then stuck with 2 broken taichi... ( i am not going to elaborate on EBay warranty here ). I had too much money involved there to stop with 2 broken laptop. So bought a motherboard for the taichi21, and went on Alibaba something and bought a display for the Taichi31. (display was like new, very satisfied)
Now what is interesting here :
My taichi21 was not working perfect, wifi connection problem, windows saying not connected while i was able to browse the internet, very long to establish a connection. The outer display was flickering bad (once in a while, had to shut down the pc to stop the flickering) The screen resolution was ALWAY setup to the highest level even if i would manually put the resolution to 1600 x 900, upon reboot, the res was back to the highest one and this was a problem for me because the icon and text was too small. Did all kind of tests, like downloading the latest drivers etc etc... spent hours on this. I was very sad because what can you do with a laptop not working proprely... sell it ? I cannot sell something working bad like that, so since my taichi 31 was working so fine, internet, screen resolution, outer display no flickering.... i decided to make an image of the Taichi31 hard drive and i did restore that image on the Taichi21. PROBLEM SOLVED. All the problems mentionned was GONE. Internet was connecting like a breeze, Screen resolution if changed to a lower res, was still at that setting upon reboot, NO OUTER SCREEN FLICKERING AT ALL....
The way i understand, the taichi21 was the first series of taichi to come to market and had all kind of problems (software problems) that was corrected on the taichi31.
If you guys that has problems with your taichi21 know someone that has the taichi31, simply make an image of that taichi31 and restore it to you taichi21.
Did sell the Taichi21 750.00$ and the guy that bought it is very satisfied with his purchase.
Good luck.Last edited: Aug 11, 2015 -
I liked the way win 8.1 was working while browsing the internet in Tablet mode.. instead of using the back arrow key to get to the previous page you would only pass your finger across the screen from left to right... this was more tablet friendly. ImoLast edited: Aug 11, 2015 -
I recently had the LCD digitizer replaced on my TaiChi 21, (thanks Square trade) and received a fresh install of Win 8.
I have used Win 8 for the past year and can work with it, I basically never used the tablet mode on the laptop after several frustrating attempts to update, or get screen rotation to work properly. Overall I have become attached to the little beast and would like to get the most utilization out of it I can.
I was am hoping for a guideline on how to update? windows to 8.1?/10 ?
Any insights would be appreciated...
Thank in advance

Also yes the brightness cannot be adjusted on the touch screen panel in Windows 10. It appears to be disabled! I might consider going back to Windows 8 or 8.1 after all if they can't fix these issues soon!

Hi everyone's Asus Taichi21 Owners.
Bad news from Asus, Taichi21 is not upgradable to Windows 10. In fact I tried it under Windows10 and it works. Except that you cannot use anymore your outer screen (A tablet).... Tada!
Asus know that and seems to do not support anymore Taichi 21 upgraded to windows 10 for that issue.
In fact Asus inform you that you cannot upgrade Taichi 21 to Windows 10 trough their FAQ web pages.
WOOOWWWWW! what wrong with that company??????
Last year many Taichi 21 Owners faces outer display problems even with windows 8.1. and it takes a while to finally solve the problem
Now again they dont want to face their incapacity to help their customers.
As I planned to change laptop/tablet combo this year but a bit later, I decided to change earlier because Asus is not a trustable company at all..
We were supposed to be priviligied client's as Taichi21 Owners
Piece of crap.

That's BS from Asus! I have a Taichi31 and the outer screen works when switched BUT you cannot auto rotate and brightness doesn't work. Also noticed sometimes the cursor is playing around but everything else is fine. Does anyone know of any other laptop/device that is on full Windows 8 but cannot be upgraded to Windows 10? Maybe it's time to start a petition or formal complaint to Asus about their poor support for such an expensive product!

Hi All, just thought I'd share my windows 10 experience in case it helps anyone.
I upgraded my taichi 31 to Windows 10. Most things worked well except the screen share and mirror mode for the dual screen.
When selecting mirror mode the outside display was upside down and screen share did not work in show desktop mode.
I tried to rollback to Windows 8.1 but it told me the files to rollback had been deleted. I hadn't deleted any but sine windows 10 had updated itself again to a later build it removed the 8.1 files.
So I am stuck with windows 10. After much trial and error I decided to change the Intel graphics driver back to the one that was working with windows 8.1.
So I just googled asus taichi drivers and went to the asus site and downloaded the vga driver. Here is the link:
http://www.asus.com/au/support/Download/3/475/0/2/FKUkcRtHBPsM7XUG/36/
All seems to be working now.
Hope this helps. -
Hi!
Rolling back to 8.1 driver Does it solved your graphic display problem? -
Both of these have been fixed by rolling back to the Intel driver for 8.1
