    FINALLY did it!!

I replaced the stock Wireless Adapter the came with my N53SV-EH72 with the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230. I followed some guides on here to disassemble the laptop and man does it take forever but its actually not that bad taking everything apart and putting it back together!

Now i have both 2.4/5 GHz bands this new adapter works awesome! + Bluetooth and it works with the switch at the side of the laptop to turn it off and on. Just make sure you download the latest drivers from Intel before you disassemble everything so you can just install it properly and then have internet access!

    :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

    My Specs:
    Intel i7 2670QM (2.20 GHz upto 3.1 GHz Boost)
nVidia 540M 1 GB Graphics Card (Overclocked)
Seagate 750 GB HD/8 GB SSD Flash Memory Hybrid Drive
    Kingston HyperX 8 GB RAM (2 x 4GB 1600 MHz)
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 Dual Band Wifi

Hi guys, i have this laptop (n53sv-DH72) and recently bought a "1tb My Passport" external drive, the thing is that when i try to connect it to the usb 3.0 port it does not recognize it, i shows it and when I try to copy something to the hdd it disconnects it, the only way to use it is on a usb 2.0 port. Does anybody has ever had the same problem?, I think it is more serious than I expect, when I connect something to the usb 2.0 right next to the usb 3.0 the laptop just turns off =/. Thanks everyone.

Try installing Fresco Logic USB 3.0 drivers first. I have some problems with two USB port on the left of the laptop. Normally, any USB pen isn't recognized, I have to touch the pen a little to be recognized.I think it's hardware failure inside the laptop.

Yea, if the drivers dont solve the problem then there is definitely something wrong with the hardware.

I can connect a USB 3.0 Hard drive with a single cable to the USB 3.0 input and it powers it up perfectly. Transfer speeds are blazing fast too.

    Model: N53SV (i5-4gb ddr3-hd 500gb)
hello, anyone is using the notebook for gaming?
I have a high temperature with games like Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3. I reach temperatures of 90 CPU and 72 GPU (Celsius). Room temperature is usually between 15 and 20 degrees celcius. But in summer reach 40 degrees.

I have understood that the maximum operating temperature is 100 degrees Celsius. And I also read that a cooling pad makes no difference.
It's not overclocked, and it only have 6 months of use
anyone have any ideas to help me?

    PS: I used google translator.

Mine same laptop. Example I was playing GTA4 on FULLHD monitor, I was getting similar temperatures as yours. But then I was replacing my cooling unit(fan+heatsink) on my laptop I change thermal paste to high quality Noctua, plus I bended a little heatsink springs. To make it more pressure to between heatsink and cpu/gpu and you know what, I got -10C on gaming so now lets say GTA4 at fullhd runing around 75-82C. While idle around 40C or less.

    Cheers :hi2:

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (or newer 6235) is popular replacement for those who wish to keep the Bluetooth.

Or if you don't care about Bluetooth, check out Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 with better range.

Hello, today I started testing with AIDA putting the CPU and the GPU at 100% working.
In one test, I put the notebook near the air conditioning which was at 18 ° C.

    2z9mnmw.jpg

As you can see from the picture, the first minute works perfectly, but once temperatures rise sharply and CPU throttling is enabled.
I really do not understand why this happens, anyone knows?

Weird, but maybe the air flow from the air conditioner was blowing directly into the fan, thus reducing the fan's speed and consequently reducing the cooling ability... Just my $0.02.

The integrated Intel graphics 3000 are horrible. There is a lot of tearing so watching a movie is impossible. I got the 2630QM, the driver Version is 8.15.10.2761. VSYNC is activated. D3D Overrider doesn't help.

This wouldn't be so serious if I could execute PowerDVD12 with the NVIDIA GT540M. But that's no longer possible... it worked when I freshly installed the latest Driver 306.23. After a few restarts the field is greyed out! It works for 3D games, but not for applications :(

    Hi,

I was thinking upgrading my PC this year, I wanted to buy a SSD : SSD CORSAIR FORCE SERIES 3 - 240 GO

And place the Hard disk in the Optical bay using :
    2nd HDD Caddy ASUS N43, N53,N55,N56, N61, N71,N73, N80,N81,N82 [OBHD-SATA12-SATA-BU] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

I was woried by the fact that I am not sure if the actual HD bay in which I will put the SSD is SATA III and if the optical bay in which I will put the HD is SATA II. and if it isn't will I have any performance issues?

I have the Asus n53SV with the i5 sandy bridge processor.

    Thanks :D

HD bay got SATA2, so even if you buy SATA3 drive it will just suit fine, but with a bit lower performance. Nevertheless, it worth it.
    It's not PC, it's laptop :)

P.S: I recommend buying some Intel or Samsung.

Well thank you :D I was nearly sure it was a SATA III as the intel hm65 chipset's has SATA III support and according to HW Info the mother boards support it :

    sanstitreah.jpg

But then Asus doesn't tell it anywhere and there is a lot of people saying the contrary.

Thank you anyway, I would prefere to go for a Intel SSD, but I got a 15% discount on all Corsair products at the moment but well if I might have issues with the Corsair SSD I might just go for a smaller intel.

    Hey guys!

I've got an N53SN from May 2011. Sent it in a couple of months ago due to a faulty CPU fan making an unbearable noise. Got it back and the issue was resolved totally. However, the sound on the notebook had gone mono! That is, having played around with the audio settings, I simply cannot get any sound out of the left speaker. That is why I suspect they forgot to reconnect the speakers properly during the repair of the CPU fan. So my question is: can I open up the notebook myself and check if that is indeed the case, and fix the problem myself without voiding the warranty?

Only one warranty sticker i saw is on cpu heatsink screw. Which i nicely removed without damaged and after optimizing cooling put back as it was. I believe if you take apart gently without any marks on screws and body, you should be all right.
P.S. myself have 2.5 yeah warranty..

Good question, I was thinking of buying new one for my N53SV. I found this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Keyboard-04...WIYI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1349279652&sr=8-2

The title says it will suit, but I need to be 100% sure.

You will just have to take the chance, I guess. Having said that, though, there aren't that many variations. All the models listed there are 15-17" models, as far as I can tell. And also it is from September 2011 - all things that suggest that it is indeed compatible with N53.
Only difference between mine and yours is a different "Enter" key, but I suppose that's normal on the U.S. layout?
Too bad I need the Nordic keys, yours is much cheaper :)

Well guys, I solved the audio issue myself. Had a look in the service manual and found out the left speaker cable is situated in the so-called "Cable module". So I decided to open it, loosening one screw, and to my big surprise (although not that big, afterall), the speaker cable was lying around unplugged along with VGA cable! Plugged it in and voila, stereo sound back on, daamn :) The repair at the service center obviously had gone a little too fast to forget such a thing! PS: No warranty sticker or blue screws.

Has anyone done a backlit keyboard mod on an N53 and can supply a part number for the keyboard they used? I've searched and searched and read a ton of posts and watched youtube vids and all I've come up with is 9j.n2j82.M0E works... unfortunately you can't get one anywhere, and that 9j.n2j82.Q01 don't work... wrong keymapping. I've found a few other variations but have no idea whether they will work or not. Trying to scrounge up as much info or "confirmed working" as possible before I sink $ into a keyboard. I know how to do the mod, and have the ability to do it... just need to get a hold of a compatible replacement keyboard.

Hey guys, I would like to upgrade my N53SN and hopefully get rid of the freezing problem.

I'll probably get an SSD and remove the HDD. (Keeping the ODD).
I read an article on here that said that this was a very nice SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 256GB.
Has someone installed this one on their system?

And should I upgrade something else? RAM?

    Thank you!

So I got my new chiclet keyboard. It's great typing on, BUT..there is a huge flex on the left side, from tab and left-shift, to R, F, V more to the right - pretty much the whole left side. Pretty surprised (it's a chiclet afterall! :) ) Anyone had the same problem? Reason why it's a problem, IMO, is that it makes a considerably louder noise when typing, like a hollow sound, whereas the buttons on the keypad feel much more study and noiseless. Not a HUGE problem, but still an annoying and pretty unnecessary one, as far as I'm concerned. Would be cool if someone had some suggestions to get rid of this.

Just had a look in the service guide; the LCD disassembly procedure is described there as well, and on the pictures you can see the hinges and the exact screws that would need tightening. I can send the guide to you, in case you don't have access to it already.

Hey, I've done a very modest backlit keyboard mod, check my last messages (enter my profile and go to find last posts).
This is the keyboard that I used:
New ASUS G72 G73 UX50 K52 Keyboard Arabic BRONZE FRAME BRONZE Backlit | eBay

It's ended (and it had arabic also :) ) and from a quick search I didn't find any keyboard currently on sale on ebay. As a general rule, the ones that have the ribbon bended to the left (from your view) (like this one) are NOT GOOD! (unfortunately i've learned this from personal experience..).
The ones that have the ribbon bended to the right and have a shorter cable are working.

Here you have a picture with my keyboard details: 2012-10-13 16.58.28.jpg

Thanks for the response. Did you use a special kind of tape, or will scotch tape do fine? I've browsed around a bit to find some info on this topic, and some people appear to have used a special kind of thermal tape, which is, unfortunately, pretty hard to get hold of (i.e. via internet only).

Not a special kind of tape, it`s a normal double-sided adhesive tape like this:

Thanks for the advice! The only tape of this kind I could find was this:

    Scotch_Double_Sided_Tape.gif

And it took care of the problem perfectly, no more flex! Just hope it lasts. :)

I updated the BIOS to the last version (209) to enable hardware AES encryption available in the i72670QM.
Truecrypt (a really usefull free tool for encryption) reported before activating hardware encryption a 335MB/s of data that can be encrypted. After BIOS update, 2.2 GB is reported for AES encryption.
Nice, that makes using an encrypted hard-disk almost as fast as a non-encrypted one.

You could check the power settings and check what mode is on, then switch to "High Performance" mode and see if that adjusts the brightness.

Did you click on Change plan settings next to the plan you're using and select at Dim the display a higher value? (minimum is 1 minute, not 2 seconds... so I don't know if it's from here..)
