    Alright. An update on my situation.

    I ordered a new DC power circuit board and got it today. I noticed that it said "N53 JN" on it. The big difference with this compared to the SV circuit board is that the button that helps turn the wireless ON or OFF is smaller. Not important to me since I always keep it on ON.

    Now I got my battery charging and I can finally use my laptop now.

    I ordered a right angle connector for my adapter. I will be extra careful removing the adapter, which I will try to do sparingly, from now on.

    [EDIT] Def going to buy a chiclet board after using my father's K53 for a week. It's so much better!

    Hey, after some testing and searching I have found nothing to fix this.
    Some gaming laptops seem to have this problem too (freezing after sleep mdoe) Click..
    They fixed it by using a program which was installed on their system. Not on the N53's.

    My "fix" now is to either disable sleep mode in every mode or to open the disc drive once it freezes.

    Please keep me updated if you find a fix somehow, my hope is currently at a minimum...

    Hey guys,

    I installed second HDD in place of ODD. Everything runs fine, but I would like to get Windows Recovery Partition working. The Recovery Partition is located on the second drive and as you may know, ImageX which extracts necessary files, copies them to the second drive. I would like to get it installed on my first disk, SSD. How can I do it? There's one simple way, just clone the partition to the first disk, but I would like to keep it on my second disk.

    People having problems with RAM incompability should take a further look at my discovery. I had many problems with Corsair RAM modules (CMS08GX3M2A1333C9), normally people suggested using CMS08GX3M 1A1333C9. Onlz one letter, but makes the difference, seriously.

    Maybe you have already heard but Corsair suggests setting Command Rate to 2T instead of 1T. That gives you much better stability with RAM modules. Normally, when using N53SV BIOS or even using Windows programs you can't switch from 1T to 2T, but there's a trick - just download AMIBCP program (I recommend using 4.53 version) and open the newest BIOS version (2.15 in my case). If you have opened the file, just look for Memory Configuration option on the left side. There you can set Memory Frequency, if you want to you can set it even to 1600 MHz. Nevertheless, look for NMode function, just set it to 2N instead of Auto. That's all.

    This number, M# to be precise, indicates the number of modules in a kit. M2 and 8G therefore means 2x4GB kit. M1 and 8G means 1x8GB.

    CMS08GX3M2A1333C9

    CM = Corsair Memory
    SO = SoDIMM
    8G = Kit contains 8GB of RAM
    X3 = DDR3
    M2 = 2 modules in a kit
    A = revision A
    1333 = 1333 MHz
    C9 = CAS Latency 9

    Right. I have looked through Internet for N53SV and N53SN reviews. Older BIOS version were setting Command Rate to 2T (Hynix memory modules used in all reviews!), doesn't matter if it was i3, i5 or i7. For N53SV, till 2.09 BIOS it was set to 2T, later they changed memory timings. As you may know, Corsair officially recommends using 2T parameter. Also, if you have any instability problems or if you have overclocked CPU together with RAM timings, it's usual to to set CR to 2T = no performance changes, but better stability.

    Look for Amazon.com, customers who bought N53SV bought also Corsair memory modules and they don't experience any BSODs - quite strange, probably they use old BIOS versions.

    I haven't upgraded the RAM yet as I think 8GB I have now (Elpida 2x4GB, datasheet pdf) is enough. CR is set to 1T and I haven't had any issues.

    Elpida with Elpida BGA (AFAIK Elpida bankrupted?) or with Hynix? Hynix memory sticks are installed in ASUS laptops by default, Kingston also uses Hynix memory modules. Just take a look at Corsair forums, you can find tons of "instability" threads. Not only with N53SV, but also with G-series and also some HP laptop units.

    Actually, this is my first time I experience some RAM incompability. I thought it was already gone few years ago, the market was much bigger than today (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel chipsets plus memory controller not in CPU, but integrated into chipset, etc.). Notebook users have no choice, because they can't set any parameters in BIOS if a vendor hasn't provided specific function in it - it's 2012 and many laptops don't even have possibility to switch from AHCI to IDE and vice versa :).

    Not only Hynix, mine came with Elpida as I already said, with Elpida chips ( datasheet pdf). Elpida was bought by Micron after (?) they went bankrupt as far as I heard.

    Yes, Kingston indeed uses Hynix, but they also use Elpida chips, like this on eBay.

    It's hard to say why instabilities occur, some people seem to have problems and some don't. It also doesn't help that neither Corsair nor Crucial have any datasheets available.

    hey guys I'm just wondering if its possible to actually use something like a 1866 RAM on the n53sn. Coz when I pumped the BIOS I see no place to change your RAM speed & V etc

    Didn't you upgrade your RAM to 16Gb 1866MT/s Kingston HyperX? Or do you mean to actually have it @1866MT/s? Btw, what kind of CPU do you have?

    lol, probably my bro said that. He gave me the laptop and flew outstation. I reformat all the things in the laptop and then realized he already upgraded the RAM. But then I found out that it was not fully utilized (if that's right?).

    And yes, this is me hijacking my bro's account. =D

    edit: he posted bout that ram thing earlier eh? haha. i wonder he knew that it was probably a waste of money to buy such expensive RAM. :confused:

    1333 is probably the max the system can support, depends on your CPU. i7-2720QM for example supports DDR3-1066/1333/1600. i7-26xx only DDR3-1066/1333. But it may not be a total waste of money. Does CPU-Z show 8 clocks for CL, tRCD and tRP or 9 clocks? Btw, what do tRAS and command rate (CMD/CR) say?

    Right, now I have a general idea of how its gonna work, but do I need to extract the rom from somewhere or is it just fine to use the one downloaded from ASUS website? After save, do I just reflash using winflash? Cause I do remember that you can't overwrite BIOS w/ the same revision date.

    The CPU is i7-2630 and here's the printscreen.

    I've got the same CPU. i7-2630QM supports only 1066 and 1333, see the specs. But since your RAM can run at much higher frequencies, it runs with lower timings at lower frequencies. In other words your RAM probably runs faster than the stock RAM with 9-9-9-24.

    EDIT: There are some people though who claim to be able to run HyperX PnP at 1866. So, despite what Intel's spec says, there's a chance it could work with BIOS mod.

    Well, all you need to do is to download BIOS. For example, we use 2.15. Just extract rar file and open BIOS file with AMIBCP (you need to select to open all files, BIOS extension is 2.15, not .ROM). Then look for Memory Configuration, when your finished just click 'Save'.

    So, now's the time for flashing the new BIOS. Just install WinFlash from ASUS website. After doing that run 'Run' from Start Menu and look for executable and add /nodate, so it won't check version. Quite easy, isn't it? :)

    You should be warned that every time you flash there's a chance to brick the BIOS chip, especially since you would need to use WinFlash.

    I got a USB 3.0 Seagate 2TB Expansion Desktop external hd recently and I plugged into my USB 3.0 port but it just won't transfer files any faster than your average USB 2.0 would. I've installed and reinstalled the fresco usb drivers from both the official asus support page and the stationdrivers website which was mentioned somewhere in this forum.

    I also noticed that in the device manager the properties->advanced tab of my usb hubs are saying "Hub is working at high-speed" which if the usb 3.0 is working properly, one of them should read "Hub is working at superspeed".

    I've heard many great things about usb 3.0, but I'm getting really skeptical about it especially since this is my first usb 3.0 experience.

    Right now I feel defeated after hours of fiddling with drivers and trying all sorts of combinations with no good results. If anyone has any idea what I should do please do tell me.

    Thanks in advance.

    I've being using my N53 for slightly over a year and every months brings about a higher heart beat rate when it comes to my battery wear.

    As of today, my battery wear rate is a whopping 62.73%

    Is it just me alone? I tried a full battery discharge for several times, including removable of the battery, allowing it to run with just the power on without battery for a while etc... and nothing seems to help much.

    Would appreciate any advice.

    I had that message that would say that my external hard drive can be faster if plugged in the 3.0 hub...even though it was connected to the 3.0 hub. So I've downloaded the Fresco logic drives too. But the fastest speeds I've seen were 30MB/s.

    I don't know too much about how fast speeds should be, but I just wanted to share that you're not alone on this issue.

    Yikes, my battery's wear level is 33.35% after owning my laptop for 14 months. I have 0 total discharged cycles.

    What I've been told and what I've learned from college is that a lithium-ion battery shouldn't be discharged all the way since it is basically shortening the battery's life by using up a cycle. Anyone is free to correct me on that statement.

    What I do is keep my laptop connected to the power grid if it's accessible. Only rarely do I choose to use my laptop with having it hooked up to a power outlet.

    I've given up as well. It's no longer as much of an issue after discovering the disc drive trick. I plan on doing a RAM upgrade at some point and I'll let you know if that changes anything.

    Hi guys

    I have a little (or rather huge) problem with my battery. When it is about 10-15% power left in it my computer shuts down. Without any warning, and unsaved data is lost.

    I tried working on both Linux and Windows and effect is the same. Power settings in both systems don't matter...

    Anyone had that problem?

    Hello,

    I've just bought this laptop without the HD display, however I am not happy with the washed out colours I am seeing. The blacks look grey they are not dark enough, all colours look faded. Now, I tried fiddling the settings in nVidia Control Panel and Intel Control Panel, but I don't see any difference. Can someone help me fix this problem either by pointing a solution or a fix.

    Many thanks.

    I don't think you can do anything about it.

    When I compare my laptop's display with 2007 MacBook Pro it looks like crap.

    Is it just me, but my N53SV after a few months is getting really hot. The ventilator slot near HDMI is really hot. I can't just put the lappy on me. I know it's hot in Europe, but c'mon, it's i5 not i7. The cooler is also quite loud, wasn't so earlier.

    I think the dust started to show itself insiade our lappy's.

    It's normal.

    After 6-8 month you should take apart your laptop, get rid of the dust and change thermal paste pn CPU and GPU. Of course, you can't do it yourself - it would void the warranity ;(.
