Anyone had issues with their Webcam on N53? And sound issues? Mine seems generally too quiet and the picture is crap in low level, slow frame rate, also seems like the white balance or exposure is resetting every minute or so, goes dark then back to normal again like it's resetting itself. Anyone seen this?

I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with and HDMI output when the computer is left alone for any period of time. It seems like it goes into a lower power mode and then continuosly plays the connect and disconnect sound. When I move the mouse, Windows has switched to Basic mode. Anyone have ideas?

I used to have the same problem but seemed like a software issue. seems to not happen after installing the drivers from the ASUS website. also with respect to the sound level i think the mic is just crap. I talk to my friends on skype and it seems i always have to yell for them to hear me

So it's not just me who observed skype calls getting worse after buying this laptop... Does anybody know if the mic is one integrated in the camera (usb one) or is directly connected to the motherboard?

Can we do something about it? Like changing the camera to the model ebolo bought, even if the quality video is the same, microphone problem is a pain in the , after buying this laptop my calls mostly are comprised of: "do you hear me?? what?? NOW YOU HEAR ME?? yes i hear you! Super! What??". Also I have to say that my internet is crappy too, but i had the same crappy internet before changing the laptop so...

that i am not sure but it is really weird..sometimes its quiet and sometimes its loud. i tested this with two skype accounts on two computers, i guess it really depends on the angle and i suppose you really need to speak into the mic. I suppose having a headset will solve that problem but it does seem that you need to be speaking in a louder voice than some other mics

Indeed most of the time now when i Skype the wife i have my gaming headset on as im also fed up shouting "HELLO I JUST SAID...." although i look like bit of a kunt , she's used to it ;)

Still doesnt resolve the framerate and constant resetting whitebalance/brightness setting on the webcam. Ill try some new drivers thanks.

Anyone got a link back to the latest greatest webcam drivers for this POS! Thanks!

I am using HDMI with a dual monitor setup (26in 1920x1200 and the laptop 1920x1080). The only problem I have had is the HDMI connection at the laptop is in the middle of my desk and I nudge it occasionally which causes the external monitor to lose signal for a second. I get the sound only when I unplug the HDMI cable.

I had to use a HDMI to DVI cable as the HDMI port on my monitor doesn't work (didn't work with my desktop PC either).

    I have a N53SV-SX964V - not a model number I can find :)
i5 2430M, 6GB Memory, 640GN HD. nVidia 540M 1GB. It performs very nicely and games run fine (no discrete to onboard graphics problems). I have installed the latest drivers from ASUS (ASUS live update) along with the latest nVidia drivers download from ASUS (267.54).

I am looking at upgrading memory to 16GB and it looks like buying 2x8GB will work although ASUS only mention up to 8GB. I will also add a second hard disk (12.7mm caddy replacing the CD).

Please let me know the part # of the keyboard you used! 9J.N2J82.Q01 doesn't work for me on an N53SN. Key maps are all different so "enter" is "." even in the bios, so it's not a driver issue.

    All,

I've been attempting to upgrade the RAM for my N53sv-EH71 that I purchased back in December. I purchased the proper Corsair memory, however any time I exceed 8Gb, the system becomes incredibly unstable and fails multiple memory tests (if left alone, will BSOD at random intervals). After experiencing this, I went to Crucial's website to run the System Scanner to check on it and the results showed that the maximum amount of memory for this system was only 8Gb!! ---This is not what Amazon and Asus have advertised, but it seems to be exactly what I'm experiencing! What's also interesting to note is that it IS NOT detecting the other two free slots for memory.

    crucial.png

What might be the cause of such memory failures? I have tested each RAM stick individually to note that any failure wasn't due to a bad unit, but the crashes are the result of "too much" memory for the laptop to handle, it seems.

Is the N53SM the same thing as the N53SV and N53SN basically? There are several models ending in "M" on Amazon's site, but I see no specific thread for them on these forums.

Side question: Is search broken on this site? I've seen the N53SM mentioned specifically in the "What notebook should I buy" forum, but search never finds any mention of it, or anything I search for.

Hi guys. This is my first post here. I have a Asus N53S which i bought last year around March. I have recently installed 'Core-Temp' to monitor CPU temperature, and notice that my laptop overheats easily. For instance, within 5 minutes of playing NFS Hot Pursuit, the CPU temperature goes up to about 85-90 degrees, and it enters hibernate. Is this normal, or is there something wrong. Would really appreciate if someone could point me in the right firection. Thanks.

I created a Technical Inquiry over the weekend with Asus concerning my problem. I hope that they reply. Has anyone experienced having to contact Asus for support? How long should I expect to have to wait until I receive a reply?

    Hi guys.
I think, its been mentioned here before, but I really cant find it.
I have an N53SV and Im still worried about temperatures vith high CPU/GPU load.
My temperatures are around 90°C.On few cores 95°C when playin Battlefield 3 and with older games (not so hardware chalenging) are the temps still around 80-85°C...
Idle temps are 40-50°C depending on room temp. That is ok,i think.
Im using Note Pal U3 (or something like this) cooling pad,but I dont see any real difference.Im afraid, that with this temps will soon this notebook burn.

    1) What are your temps?
    2) What temperatures do you have on similar notebooks from other manufacturers?
3)Can i somehow lower the temps without downclocking,or decreasing performance?

    Thanks for opinions...

    Hey there guys,

I bought my N53SV in February 2012, but just now I have upgraded to 8 GB RAM and bought new SSD - Intel 330 120 GB (recently released).
Everything sounds good, but I experience problems with instability of my lappy. I have no idea is it because of the installed RAM (Corsair Dual Pack 2x4 GB) or new SSD from Intel. The laptop sometimes crashes and automatically reboots with no BSOD information.

I tried to look for the solution, so I went to this forum for my laptop model. A few people mention good working configuration with Corsair memories or with Crucial. I doubt it would be SSD, it's new and it's Intel, I read about SandForce 2281 problems, but they were "fixed" AFAIK.

Nevertheless, I checked CPU-Z. It shows DualChannel working mems, but what's curious is that the lappy set Command Rate to 1T and maybe it's the problem?

I tried to run MemTest86+ and also Windows Memory Diagnostic, but both of them don't even show up during the boot, just black screen with no possibility to choose. I'm kinda worried, but await your replies.

My lappy is ASUS N53SV with Intel i5-2430M and GeForce 540 2 GB GDDR3 (matte version of the screen, luckily! :p)

Tried searching first, kept coming up with no results. I have an Asus n53sv-eh72 and i am looking for the part # for a blu-ray drive that i can swap out with the dvd drive that is in there.

Has anyone done this? I have found the Asus eStore but unsure if any of those blu-ray optical drives will work with this laptop. Any help would be appreciated!

You need to find the source of the problem.

Put the original memory back in, use the laptop to see if it is more stable. If it is still not stable swap the original disk back in and try it again.

You changed two things so try and narrow down the problem.

I know the SSD might be a problem, but SandForce 2281 was already fixed, Intel wouldn't release new problematic drives, or am I wrong?

It's the memory instability. Whenever I put 2 RAM sticks in Windows Memory Diagnostic doesn't start up. When I put just one stick (whether it's Corsair or old Hynix originally installed) the program runs and works fine. I tried to downgrade BIOS to 2.14, but it didn't help (hoped it would reset CMOS). I also used one RAM stick for DIMM1 and DIMM3 (CPU-Z doesn't show DIMM2 or DIMM4).

Now the only thing I got left it to change the sticks (would be quite hard) or just leave 4 GB RAM (kinda ironic, supported is MAX 16 GB, but I can't even switch from 4 to 8 GB) or contact Corsair about the incompability. Their website says it should be fully working. I got 2x Dual Channel sticks 1333 MHz.

I have a Asus N53SV-XV1. I had a few questions as I am selling my desktop and I am going to start using this as my primary PC.

Is the GPU soldered to the motherboard? Can the 540m be upgraded to a 560m? I want to upgrade as the 540m is a little weak, but I got such a good deal on the laptop I couldn't pass it up.

Second, I have a triple monitor setup and I am wondering if I can use the Laptop display, a monitor connected via HDMI, and a monitor connected via VGA? I will just use the 3rd display for another computer.

Earlier in this thread someone commented that you can only have two monitors or one monitor and the laptop display. I have a monitor connected to the HDMI port. I will see if I can try with another one attached to the VGA port.

My headphone-jack just stopped working. I had it connected to my Aktive speakers and tripped over the wire, now only the left channel works no matter wich cable i use (i also tried my headphones), i tried it in both Windows and Ubuntu, same , so its a hardware failure. I don't know how the it is possible to break the jack in such a wierd way that just one channel stops working, but its just like that now.

Is there any way to remap the microphone jack to be used as a headphone jack?

Hi all, new to the forum and the new owner of an N53SV X5MS. I've a couple of questions, firstly about the elan touchpad. I´m finding the right click problematic there seems to be a sweet spot just right of the rocker but if I press at the far right of the click button I hear a click but no function. Is this usual or should I take the laptop back to get it replaced?
Secondly I´m coming from a mac and have a question about the size of the windows installation. The install is huge, I realise it is to do with the upgrade anytime function. Are there any methods to reduce the size of the Windows folder. I´ve heard about turning off hibernation is this recommended or safe?
    Thanks in advance

I only used the touchpad a little as I have attached an external keyboard and mouse.

To reduce the size of the windows 7 install the best way is to do a clean install. Asus have added a lot of extras so it makes it seem a lot bigger. In reality a Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) and Windows 7 install will not be that different in size. I just installed Snow leopard and it took about 5 gig. I didn't install everything but I wouldn't for a Windows 7 install either (extra language support for example). A Windows 7 install is probably from 5 to 10GB not counting the swap file and htbernate file.

Does MacOSX create a swap file? Windows 7 usually creates one that is at least as big as your RAM. On my N53SV I have a 4.5GB hybernate file and a 6GB swap file.

Hi, all. I'm new to posting on this forum but I've been watching since January. I have a new N53SV-DH72 I'm having problems doing a clean install of Windows 7 Professional with a new HDD. I get thru most of the installation and then I get a pop-up window with the following message:

"Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation".

After restarting the computer, another pop-up window appears with the following message:

"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot procede. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, and then restart the installation".

I'll be trying the installation again this evening but I was hoping someone in this forum could shed some light on what is happening to my install process.

The laptop has a new WD7500BPKT 750GB hard drive and 16GB of Corsair system memory all of which Bios has correctly detected. The hard drive and memory were installed after an initial powerup of the laptop with the "as installed from the factory" components to verify that the laptop worked.

I have never had a problem installing an Operating System before but Windows 7 is new to me. Is there a driver or something that has to be installed on the laptop prior to loading the Operating System I am not aware of?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated to get the failed Windows 7 install working again.

    Thanks.

If you're not using hibernation, it is safe to turn it off and save some space.

My ASUS N53SV does not hibernate. Using Windows 7 64bit. Updating BIOS didnt solve my problem.

When I put select hibernate, it only turns off display and keeps working and when I move the mouse display turns on again as nothing has happened.

well, I think I did plug it correctly, I didn't try the other way around though...
Since my post I googled it a bit, I live in Turkey and my N53SN could be localized to Turkey or something like that.

What do you have in your keyboard languages screen?

EDIT: I plugged it wrongly, It shouldn't work at all, right? Mine is working but with messed up characters. For example, the "Enter" key is like F5 in the new one.

It shouldn't matter what language is chosen in windows...
Explain a little how's the keyboard behaving, like all the letters are messed, some? What about the controls key like shift, arrows, control, enter, esc etc.

every single key binded to somewhere else, ctrl, shift, del...
for example - key is now delete, "num lock" key now opens media center.

could be in need a new ATK driver or smth?
