Anyone here have any experience overclocking the 550m (96 shaders)?
I want to know what temps you guys get with which clock speeds.
Also, how important is a cooling pad for OC'ing?
On another note, sometimes a little red line will come across the screen when I'm playing Battlefield...looks like an artifact.![]()

Thanks everybody for the help with my keyboard issue, I'm gonna decide either if I put the backlit function on or not.
I'm not really an expert on Overclocking but I can tell you this, never had problems with it and that red line while playing Battlefield 3 never happened to me, I have Battlefield 3 too and I play it smoothly, I run Crysis 2, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim without any issues, the laptop doesn't even overheat (of course it's not on max settings, but most of my games are on High settings) sometimes I use a cooling pad because I'm cautious about that, I had a Toshiba Satellite L550 that overheated like crazy and shut down, with the Asus N53SN I don't have that problem.
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help, I'm sure someone will help you out -
Hi guys... I have a problem here.. My N53SN is having white light instead of blue light despite me not running any gpu intensive programs at all... What's wrong with it?

Temperature gadget? GPU status gadget?

when overclock my N53SN Nvidia 550m (96 shaders), core temp is about 71-73 °C when playing (core clock: 865 MHz, shader clock: 1730 MHz, memory clock: DO NOT CHANGE THIS! ), using Evga Precision with enabled onscreen display server (I can see temps, actual fps ingame) and when temp is too high (over 73 °C) I downclock to original with shortkeys. Its quite easy and when I overclock I get + 3-12 more FPS it depends on game which played, drivers used, and also actual temp.

Hello everyone Im new to the forum and Im a new, first time owner of an ASUS N53SV DH71. I love everything about it except the screen resolution (1366-768). Being impatient to buy I didnt realize it until I got home. I would really prefer the full HD experience but every store I go to only sells the DH71 and not the other models claiming to have full HD (1900 x 1080). Does anyone know if they have been discontinued? Can have the same specs but a higher resolution? Any info is appreciated
-
I bought mine in December, a N53SN with FullHD Resolution and very good specs (I don't know if they are the same as yours) and as far as I know they are still for sale. -

I've got the asus X5MSV, wich is very similar and I'm running into a lot of problems when i'm using more than 4GB of RAM.
Whenever I add 4GB to make a total of 8GB I get random BSOD's, usually with the error code: pfn_list_corrupt.
I've ran memtest to verify that it was not a faulty RAM-stick and even replaced it with other memory but to no avail.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I really need help with this.
4GB works just fine, no BSOD's in sight...
Thanks for any help,
Vital -
Hey guys. I've had a N53SV for a little over a year now. Love it but I'd like to get a bit more speed out of it's GPU. Usually software is used to overclock but I don't want to have to deal with software maintenance every time I update drivers and other SW overclock hurdles.
Do you think flashing an N53SN or an N53SM BIOS on to it would work? Isn't the NVIDIA VGA BIOS included in the NB BIOS? If so, would the N53SV GPU use the N35SM GPU clocks for example? I ask this because the 540, the 550 and the 630 are the same GPU with different clocks. -
I use the latest drivers from NVidia always, always downloading new ones when they come out. -
Is it possible to use the F1-12 quick keys (turn up brightness / volume etc) without pressing the function key all the time?

Welcome to asus. You are probably a previous HP customer. -
Have any of you deleted the recovery partition?
Only now noticed it is 21.49 GB!!
Can windows' Drive Management expand a partition (C, D) with this new space?

I cannot get the microphone to work for my camera.... Also, when I try to download the driver I get an error and it won't install.
What gives?
Edit: nvm, working -
If the VRAM value is actually detected instead of fixed in the BIOS and if the GPU's ID is determined by the VGA BIOS instead of the GPU itself it could work. But since I can't be sure of any of this I was wondering if anyone had that information. -
I just ordered this wireless card:
Amazon.com: Intel 6200 IEEE 802.11n (draft) Wi-Fi Adapter - Mini PCI Express - 300Mbps: Computers & Accessories
Where can I locate the current one and replace it with this? Is it next to the HD? -
HI..im new here
i want to ask ur opinions of suitable gaming rams that can be added to this laptop.
my model :
Asus N53SV
Intel Core-i7 2630QM
Installed memory 4GB
i prefer corsair, kingston or crucial memory..anyone got a idea? -
Is it safe to delete the recovery?
And what do you use to combine partitions?
10x -
For combining the extra space if you do delete it, use gparted or parted magic.

Plus delivery on top of that reckon 3weeks, that's a disaster having to wait that long, throwing my toys out here
Anyone know of another source for this cable.
(Thanks to Ebolo for posting and discovering this information) -
My n53sn is having issues with hiberation/closing the computer for stand by.
It runs very slowly and it will not shut down or restart via start menu so I have to do a hard shut down my holding the power button.

Hello everyone, I am having some trouble with my Asus N53SV-A2. I recently "upgraded" from Windows 7, to the Windows 8 Customer Preview. In doing so, all my data and memory (videos, pics, games, etc). Basically everything got deleted. So, now I am trying to re-download all of the drivers (which I have done for the most part) however, I can't seem to find how to get the Power4Hybrid thing, that boosts/lowers your performances by pushing the button by the grill near the screen of my laptop. Can anyone help, as of right now it's not working for me?

Got the same problem with the audio, none of the 5 buttons on the side of the laptop are functioning!! -
I just got on and my windows working fine, but i lost wifi in Asus express gate. -

The search function of this forum doesn't seem to work. So forgive me if it's been asked. Does N53 series supports gestures with its touchpad? I'd like to just swipe left or right to go back and forward in web browser for example.
Thanks. -
Can you tell me where can i find? O asus support site only have version 2.1.88.405
My notebook is N53SV -DH72 -
You also have to install ATK Package which you can find on this page:

Hi all. I have an Asus N53SN S-1344V (FHD monitor, i7 2630QM, GT 550M, 750GB @ 7200rpm, dvd-rom etc.). I really like the laptop. The only thing i don't like it's the keyboard. Not only because it flexes, i don't look to it while typing to see it flex, but because it's very noisy (the cheap kind of noisy) and also sand-ish feeling (i feel like moisturizing my fingers all the time i use the laptop
).
Also what i don't like about the keyboard it's the fact that there is no space between the numpad and the rest of the keyboard, making it very hard to feel with your fingers the edge between them. And also the arrow keys are very hard to find without looking at the keyboard (mostly because they have the same dimensions as the number keys and the right arrow being part of the numpad). And it's not about getting used to it, as I have more than 2 weeks with it...
So i decided to buy a new keyboard (chiclet and backlit), just ordered this one from ebay: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
While i'm waiting for it I want to know better how to make the backlit work. I saw the pictures and videos posted by elbolo, but i want it more detailed
And... I saw your post, ASUS787 and if you want to make a better guide I would be grateful, because i kept searching for a good one for at least 6 hours
I don't know how to solder, but I can learn. Tell us all the tools and how you made it (for example, from where you took the wires? I read that simple ethernet wires would work?). How do you know which of the pin from the keyboard is the +5v and which one is the ground? how do you know what pin to solder from the usb? I found some guide for another laptop that used the fan wires, wouldn't it be more easy?
Also about the wi-fi switch, what do you mean by 'you need to bridge two of the three poles on the wifi switch'? where are they located, how do you know which to pick and where/how to bridge them? where to put the wire into the wi-fi switch?
Any detailed response will be grately appreciated, and maybe if you take the time to make it with photos and videos you could actually open a new thread for it. I'm very sure it's very useful, as the keyboard for n53sn is not something that you would desire (I have the original non-chiclet keyboard, the one with the flex issue, which for me it's not the real issue of this keyboard).

* The wifi switch is attached to the D.C in board by 3 pins
* You need to bridge with solder the 2 pins of the switch in the off position.
* This will bridge the wifi circuit so that it is on permanently.
* Unsolder the 3rd pin of the switch away from the board carefully.
* Attach the ground side of the backlit keyboard ribbon to this pin
* Insulate the join with heat shrink so that it does not touch the board anywhere. ( critical as a short will destroy your board)
* Attach the +ve side of the keyboard ribbon to the +VE side of the usb port next to the dvd drive( strip back an old usb plug The red wire will indicate the +ve terminal of the port when you plug it in)
* Run the wires and place an inline small wire connector to sit ontop of the dvd drive so that in the future if you need to remove the keyboard you can also unplug the backlit ribbon.
Sorry I have no photo`s to help. Hope this is of help to you. I had to figure this all out myself as you said there is no real detailed guide. I have tried to explain the steps to the best of my knowledge. If you still are unsure please dont hesitate to ask!!Attached Files:

Thanks for replying. If I was in my own country I would find somebody to solder it for me, but i'm living in Denmark for the next 2 years, so it's hard to find a guy who knows these stuff here and don't pay him a fortune
What do you think about this guys idea? http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/465841-ul30-backlit-keyboard-mod-42.html#post7610098
Using the power from the sata of the hdd it's kind of brilliant for not requiring soldering on the MB, isn't it?
Or, can't we use the sata of the DVD-rom?but I think it's much more complicated to put it in the correct pin without tearing apart the enitre notebook..
