Oh i see. i called Amazon and let them know about the wrong description. It is actually a 1366x768 screen. I actually went with the N53SV. It should be coming in the mail this week. I hope it is a great product as the reviews say so.

Yessir ordered it off amazon. Bought a 4gb Corsair Ram chip with it. I dont really need more than 10 gb of ram lol. I think more than that is overkill. I hope someone can help me find a backlit keyboard mod or replacement for it tho. That would be nice. :D

Hey all. I have had my n53sv-xv1 for roughly 8 month old now and I would like to take it apart and clean it.
    1) How far can I take it apart before I void the warranty?
    2) Also those that did take it appart and replaced the heat paste, what did you use, I was going to use arctic silver 5.
    3) Finally I heard people say that they bought heat-sinks to install on their vram, but Im not sure if that's true, and if so which heat-sinks did they get?

    Hi,

does anyone knows if it's possible to install samsung 830 ssd to n53sv without the notebook kit? Or is the drive too small? I know that the drive is only 7mm but is the place for hdd/sdd in this laptop 9mm or 7mm?

Anybody installed Windows 8 CP x84 on Asus N53SN? I did, but now I'm unable to start Angry Birds Space - this game requires OepnGL drivers, I've tried installing several current packages, but nothing worked - I got current nVidia driver installed, but only default Intel HD GPU drivers.
Anybody had success installing current Intel HD GPU drivers on Windows 8 CP?

    Just got the N53SN-XV1...

It comes with 4GB ram and I bought 8GB Corsair on amazon. The 8gb is 1333mhz. Am I best off removing the 4gb of lower speed and just using the 8gb?

    Thanks

    Have an N53SV-EH72;

Added two 4 GB memory sticks (pc3-10600) so I have a total of 14 gb ram. Also put in a crucial ssd 128gb in place of the hdd.

Clean installed Win7, thing works great, fast, smooth. Go for it.

PS. Put the two gb in slot #4, don't know if the placement will make a difference.

Attempting to find specific info on how to replace the wireless card on this laptop. Thread is quite long, so I simply tried to search this particular thread for the info instead of asking a question possibly posed several times in this thread already...

Is it just me or does the search function for the thread not working? No matter what I try, I get "no posts found".

To illustrate, I picked a known term in this thread (asus) and still got nothing (posted a screenshot).

In any case, is there some specific info on replacing the wireless card only? Do I need to remove the Blu-ray drive, and the aluminum hand rest as well?

You need to dismantle the laptop to get to it. starting underneath remove all screws. Be careful as they are different lengths.Turn laptop back over. Gently push the clips around the key board forward until it releases undo the ribbons and remove it.Remove screws from the top.Gently split the top cover from base using plastic knife or similar, be careful as the clips are delicate. You can now see and access the wireless card at right rear. Gently remove the antenna cables and the two screws holding it in place. I have replaced mine with an intel 6230n works brilliantly. Assembly is in reverse order. Take your time doing it as i said the clips are delicate. If you google disasemble n53 you will find photos on the steps to dismantle. I beleive they are also somewhere in this forum.

Thanks folks appreciated. @787 I just bought the same wireless card and will give it a shot momentarily. I have replaced the keyboard myself already (as well as the HDD for an M4 SSD and popped in 8GB of Corsair memory so the wireless is the last thing I want to tackle).

I am looking for specific info on how to handle the wireless antenna leads but I think I got it. They come off the current card by popping upwards it seems.

@dental: I found that thread thanks. I was not sure how much I should have disassembled just to get to the wireless card, as that guide looked more like a complete dis-assembly. Still, an invaluable thread and much appreciated as it will help with this project too.

I think I'll be fine its just a confidence thing at the moment. My current setup with the Atheros card works OK as-is, but the tinkerer in me just wants it to work better and access my router at full capability.

    Thanks again

This is the seller, and looks like the same keyboard:
    NEW ASUS N53 N53JQ N53JF N53SV N53SN N53NB US keyboard | eBay

I saw a chicklet one posted earlier in this thread that looks nicer, but the one I posted above worked fine a I like a little better than the stock keyboard.

Wireless card installed and working great. Getting good speeds on the 300mb connection, but the reception is not as strong as I anticipated. The regular n connection seems to work just as good (or better) than the Atheros, so I assume that the antenna was reconnected correctly.

Had to remove more screws than I had hoped. I was using another guide and it did not mention a bunch of screws, or said the screws were not important but they were.

These BSOD's are making me angry.
I upgraded all my drivers, still I had BSOD's.
I analyzed my dmp files on my other computer (I can't install it the tools on this computer) and it pointed towards PCI.sys. I didn't have driver installed of "PCI simple communications manager", which was the Intel Management Interface, so I hoped it would get better.
The amount is reduced, but I'm still having BSOD's.
Does anyone please have a fix? Or has experience with my issue?

I am trying to take off the keyboard so I can replace it with a different one, but it just won't come off. I am using a flathead screwdriver to get into the crevices, but I am not 100% sure where the hinges are and where I need to press. At what angle? How should it come/slide off?

    Thanks

Ok, so I sent my N53 SN-1 to the RMA department for the THIRD time, and after nearly a month, got it back with a replaced CPU (so they say at least)... and it BSOD'ed on the VERY FIRST shut-down, just like the second time I got back the laptop! Do they even test those machines before sending them back? I'm starting to go crazy... I bought this in September... it had bsod problems right from the start, and between reformatting, sending it to RMA multiple times, and reinstalling programs, it's been 6 months without actually using the laptop.

I called RMA dept again and this time I told them nothing short of a replacement will be acceptable given their s***ty track record. They tell me a supervisor will contact me in 24-48 hours. That was a week and half ago. I contacted them mid-week to follow up on things, and they ask me for service number, full name, address, serial number, what the problem is, etc, etc, like they do every time. Why do I have to explain everything to them every time I call... isn't the service/RMA number enough to pull out everything from the file? It's like I'm starting a fresh case with every phone call, and they just forget about it. Next time i'm vacationing in the carribean I'll hunt down their call centre and massacre everyone inside ARGH.

Just because the 550 is basically the same as 540. It has only a bit faster clocks, but still 96 CUDA cores.

Hello everybody, I just registered int he forums because I need your help if possible
Before I begin I must apologize if I make any mistakes writting or typing errors, english is not my native language.

I have an Asus N53SN Laptop and I recently had a slight problem with the keyboard.

Now the thing is, I was online checking where to buy new keyboards and I saw that the Asus G73 keyboard is compatible with the N53.

Now I just wanted to know if this is true, I don't really care about the backlit, I just wanted to know for sure if the keyboard is compatible because I really prefer the design and the key buttons from the G73 rather than the N53 and also, I can't find the original keyboard for sale in my country, only another one that has concave, or rather concave-like key buttons and I don't really like that.

Anyway, I just really wanted to know if the G73 keyboard is compatible with Asus N53 and if possible, if the keyboard matches the laptop or will it make it rather awful?

Thank you for your time and thanks in advance!

The G73 keyboard is held together bu 5 latches, if those are in the same position on the N53 (they probably are), then yes it'll be a simple plug and play swap.

Just out of curiosity, how did you put the backlit working? Is there a way? I heard it needs some welding, is it true?

I think a couple of the guys upgraded to Full HD screens. You'll need a new cable as well. Check out elbolo's posts: here and here.

Hey thanks nebulus for the info, i know what i meant ;)

Anyway one more question, may webcam on my N53 is crap! And it seems every minute or so esp in darker room the whitebalance or something resets and goes dark then comes back to normal again, framerate is naff, also microphone gain poor.

    Anyone found a good upgrade?

By using the wireless switch as the on off function and soldering a wire from the back of the usb port using the +ve terminal. At the wireless switch end you need to bridge two of the terminals so that the wireless is on permanently but you can turn it on and off using wireless console 3.
