    Hi guys...

    I'm a hero since I just read whole 180 pages =)

I'm using N53SV for about 2 months and can say that it's simply great one. Upgraded 5400rpm HDD with OCZ Vertex3 w/o any problem. And it turned up to a beast after this upgrade...

I got only one issue with my laptop... It's USB 3.0 performance... Using a 3.0 enclosure w/ stock HDD in it... But transfer rates are about 40 MB/s =/

I tried all drivers for Fresco Controller... Changed my cable... But no luck...

Also I noticed and read that lots of people experiencing same issue with 2.5" enclosures / external HDDs (which doesnt have external power supply) But 3.5" enclosures w/ own power supplies seem work well... So I think that there's a power issue with USB 3.0 controller (?)

Anyone has any kind of experience and any advice about that?

    Thanks in advance...

Edit: Windows warns me like "This device can perform faster if you connect it to a USB 3.0 port" even it's already in USB 3.0 port...

I was thinking of doing a clean install too, but its kinda hard finding a way of doing that. Do you have any links for the .iso file and what-not?

There's a useful guide in forum:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html

You can get proper version of Windows here and use your license key sticked under your laptop to activate it...

    Good luck...

That comes pretty close to what I d.
I just downloaded an official Windows 7 that has all versions on it, installed the Home Premium one and gave in my key that is on the bottom of my laptop.
After that I searched for drivers and installed ONLY the ones I needed.
That's it, nothing more, nothing less :p
There is also a topic about what you need and what you don't need. I installed the drivers that I need (except for PCI Simple Communications Controller, can't find which driver that is) and it's working like a breeze :)

If you decide to start uninstalling just the programs you don't use, enjoy :p I tried doing that and after I removed the games (Plants vs zombies etc), the computer started to freak.
Oh, if you looked a bit up ,you might notice I had issues with P4G Hybrid, seems like I was the only one :p It's really not needed so :) It's up to you

Yep I tried every single Fresco driver on Asus website but didnt help... I think its not a software thing, not sure tho...

I think it's Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Wired LAN Controller). Give it a try...

I have the N53SV-EH72. Has anyone noticed on that or a similar model any color dithering on the screen? It's plainly visible if you look at the screen at a vertical angle away from you, mostly on bright colors. For example, the white background on Windows Explorer (Win7) looks like a matrix of white and grey pixels. The tabs on Google Chrome look horrible, the MS Office 2010 ribbon, etc. It doesn't seem to be displaying colors at 24-bit color depth. The colors seem fine if I look at the screen either directly or at a vertical angle towards me.
I've been trying to google this for a bit now and haven't found any mention with regards to this specific product.
I should mention that I did a format + clean install of Windows 7 with all the recommended drivers.
I did save a disk image of the stock installation and am thinking about running that and see if I notice any difference.
Anyways, is this normal at all? I've never seen a laptop screen do this.

Can anyone advise me on where to get a 9 cell batter and smaller power supply for a N53sv?

I see many listed on ebay but don't know what part number or info to search for. Also don't know which are good or reliable.

I really need this for an upcoming trip overseas as it is a very long flight. Thanks.

OK, so all the 8gb CNmemory is brought back. So glad they took it back. Thanks Media Markt! Even 1 sodimm of these was incompatible.

    Signs of incompatibility include:
    1) Corrupted screen hangs, including at bootup, seemingly when optimus kicks in.
    2) Non startup of the system
    3) Blue screens of death, especially with respect to memory management, system service (0x3b)
    4) hci Memtest errors. Highly recommended. Run at least for 4 to 10 hours with multiple instances.
    5) windiag memory errors tested. Also recommended.
    5) Non startup of the windows memory tester.
    6) Curiously, memtestx86 never gave me an error.
    7) Hibernation problems in windows 8 when a lot of memory is in use.
    8) Spontaneous shutdowns
    9) Crash of the task manager
Not 100% sure these are all due to incompatible memory.

So now back to 6GB... Hope my system is 100% stable again...

I've seen that a lot of people is waiting for edge scrolling to be enabled on the Elan drivers.

Recently I purchased a Samsung notebook as a more portable solution than my N53SV, this Samsung notebook also has an Elan touchpad and it HAS edge scrolling so I checked the driver version and after searching it for hours I was able to download that old version (8.0.7.2), I then installed it on my N53SV and I couldn't find the edge scrolling option anywhere! so I decided I would try my Asus drivers on the Samsung (10.0.7.2) and there it was, edge scrolling.

So I sadly have to tell you not to expect edge scrolling on our N53SV as it is not a driver issue but a hardware one :(

Hi I purchased a G73 backlit keyboard on ebay for $45. Works a dream. Have taken power from usb port and used the wifi switch for turning it on and off. The mod is not to hard but you need to take your time and have a steady hand to solder onto the back of the usb port. You need to bridge to ofth three poles on the wifi switch so wifi is on all the time. You can still turn it off by function F2 or by wireless console 3. You use the third pole on the switch for the ground side of the keyboard. I used a small in line wire connector for the backlit keyboard ribbon so that I can dismantle anytime if I need to access the internals. If anyone needs any help I am happy to answer questions.

On the Download page ( ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download ) click Start on `Select Model Manually` then click Notebook, and pick `Drivers` instead of model number under Series tab (just below C90 series)... Now you can see all drivers for all models

Hello everyone, Asus N53SV-SX303V owner here, I just got it yesterday and I'm really impressed, solid build, nice size, fairly cheap for the specs. I uninstalled some of the bloatware that come on the computer and then installed Google Chrome. However, after about a day and a half, I found that Google Chrome no longer worked: it would not run from the shortcut or the chrome.exe. I tried uninstalling it as well but had no success with this. Eventually I found a possible solution on this thread in Google chrome help forums

Unable to start and uninstalling Chrome - Google Chrome Help

"The problem is with the Asus laptop Keyboard driver. The driver is required for the backlight and short cut keys. If you had re-installed chrome it would work. However, you would lose your hot key functions from your keyboard and your backlight. Furthermore, if the keyboard driver is updated again from your Asus software updates, Chrome would seize to function. There is no fix for now other then use they Key board driver or chrome. Please escalate to google or asus for resolution."

I uninstalled chrome using Revo uninstaller and then reinstalled it, and it did work. However, what I then found was that although Chrome now works perfectly, I can no longer use the keyboard shortcuts, and no animation shows up when I press any of them. I am sure this is due to some sort of conflict between the driver and Chrome. Does anybody have a solution or work around to this? Perhaps some sort of alternative driver for the shortcuts?

I don't think there is one... if the number pad were bigger, the keyboard where you type would have to be reduced in size.

Have a question for any of you who have done a keyboard replacement.
From what I've seen the keyboards on ebay don't have holes for air to pass through them, isn't that a problem for cooling the laptop?

It shouldn't be, Asus laptops are normally designed to take their air from the bottom of the notebook and the keyboard is usually completely sealed. Have you removed the old keyboard to check if there were any aeration holes in it?

I was trying to upgrade my N53SV-B1 with some more ram that I have laying around, but I wasn't able to find the two available slots. I found the 4 gb and 2 gb beside the HDD but there wasn't two more. Does this laptop only have 2 DIMM slots?

Your N53 has i5 processor (Dual Core) which means there are 2 slots total. 4 slots are available for N53's w/ i7 (Quad Core) processors...

    "Memory: DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM,
4 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 16 G SDRAM (Quad Core)
2 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 8 G SDRAM (Dual Core)"

    Never be regretful about that!

i5 is still an awesome processor. Actually most of i7 users (incl. me) dont need i7 performance unless they use their laptops for heavy processes like 3D rendering and such...

Processor is not a bottleneck for usual / daily usage of a laptop. The real bottleneck of your configuration is your HDD. Yes, practically there is no difference to use an i5 or i7 if both laptops use a crappy 5400rpm HDD.. So, focus on upgrading your HDD to a SSD instead of thinking about processors...

I dont know your usage scenario so I cant easily say how many more years you can use this laptop but that can give you an idea:

If you use it for websurfing, watching HD movies (like 90% of laptop users) then 5 years at least...
    or
If you use it for ultimate gaming then 2 years max (cos of 540M not i5!)

And please tell me why you need more than 6 GB of RAM.. You use a program like 3DMax or PS?

Yeah that's true, well i'm a computer engineer and probably the most intensive thing I do is simulations. But those are more CPU based... right now I'm using 4 gb of ram with my simulation program open, word, 720p tv show running, chrome, steam etc...

    SO i think I'm good.

    Thanks!

    You're a computer engineer? Then I'm getting silent :)

PS: I believe that you'll be able to use 16 GB RAM (2x8GB) even Asus says it's 8 GB max... They say max supported RAM for i7 models is 16 GB but lots of people successed to use 32 GB on their N53s... We just need some time to see more 8 GB modules around. Then they'll update site info imo...

People were talking about the G73 taking air from the keyboard as well at some point and it doesn't. If you removed yours and it is completely sealed, they don't worry about ordering a replacement that is also sealed.

Amazons site is a little confusing on the specs. One place shows it as 1920x1080 screen and down below that it shows 1366x768. I looked on another site and it shows that model as 1366x768.

I was looking at this one but would prefer a glossy screen
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Didn't know which screen you wanted.

Where did you see the 1366x768. I only see it specified as a 1920x1080 screen. Also is the GT 630 any better than the Radeon 7690?

If you go down to the end of the product description there is this blurp.
It is just before an advertisement for some memory.

Also if you click on the XOTCPC add at the top of this page and search that model number it says 1366x768 on it. Same on GenTech PC banner.

Maybe I'm wrong but just thought I'd point that out.
