I only get the BSOD when I try to shut down... it occasionally does it on it's own, but out of around 50 BSODS since September, 45 of them were on shut downs. (I usually keep my computer either on or on hibernate for several days at a time to avoid the hassle)
http://www.mediafire.com/?ia70xdijl54189b
Here's the zipped file from step 2 of the link you posted (I can't actually upload the original dmp files themselves). Step 3 also failed:
"An error occured while attempting to generate the report.
The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out. "
The laptop has been like this since it was brand new in September. I've sent it to RMA dept twice now, and it has come back with exactly the same problems both times. How many times do I have to do this before they give me a new laptop? And if this is a software rather than hardware issue, why haven't these issues been taken care of BEFORE selling the thing to the customer? Or is that the new expected thing nowdays, to get a new laptop and spend several weeks doing hundreds of reboots/windows updates and ironing out the kinks? I never thought I'd say this, but I wish I bought a mac... instead of spending $1800 on 2 Asus laptops (1 to replace the other while it spends most of its time between Purolator and the RMA dept).

Version V5.8.55133.208 is running
from
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Camera
it seems to be, but you never know.
Note: the minidumps refer to usbhub.sys, usbccgp.sys and snp2uvc.sys. usbhub and usbccgp are windows 7 drivers. Snp2uvc.sys is your camera driver.
Disabling usb, and specifically the camera probably should work.
Most importantly, you seem to be running without service pack. Please upgrade to service pack 1.
If that does not work, check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2459268 -
Too late... Purolator came and picked it up yesterday. It's the same guy who did the 2nd pickup, and he recognized me lol.
I'll try the above when I get my laptop back next week (likely with zero repairs done to it). Anyway, does anyone know what the policy with Asus is regarding replacement machines for excessive RMA requests? -
Are these computers supposed to run hot? My 2670qm idles around 39 - 45 C.

These are normal temperatures.

I have a N53SV-DH72 and swapped the wireless for the Intel 6230. I'm running a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router on channel 1 with no wireless-n. With my company dell laptop, my Speedtest.net results are dead on compared to my desktop at 35MB down. Now with the new Intel 6230 and the drivers found in this forum, I am getting speeds between 4-9MB down. I have tried installing just the driver without the software for the wireless card and the same results. No other software/drivers are installed from the prior Atheros card.
Anyone else having similar results? -
Go to Control Panel
Power Options
Change Plan Settings
Change Advanced Power Settings
a pop up comes in on the screen
Expand the - Wireless Adapter Settings
Expand the - Power Saving Mode
Change - On Battery To Maximum Performance - Plugged In To Maximum Performance Restart your system and now your WiFi will work perfectly
- or some other power settings in device manager -
- or check your antenna connections -
- or check your antennas, maybe from a different system - -
Perfect!! Thanks!!

New BIOS for N53SN is out. AES-NI support, yay!
BIOS 2.09
1. Show system serial number on setup menu
2. Add CPU AES-NI function support
3. Update CPU microcode
4. Fix sometimes system can't boot after press power button.
5. Update EC firmware
PS: There's also a new wireless driver V9.2.0.458, one can get a more recent one from other places though. -
Anyone upgraded? (Can I upgrade using asus tool from windows 7 on new ntfs?)
-
Yes. I flashed, as usual, using EZ-Flash from BIOS and BIOS file placed on FAT32 formatted USB flash drive (4GB SanDisk micro cruzer).
I would not recommend flashing from NTFS or using WinFlash (unless you have to). Some people had previously issues, as in they bricked the BIOS chip, flashing from NTFS. Well, at least with Easy-Flash/EZ-Flash. And, you know, Windows can always crash... and if it happens during the flashing process, chances are you brick the chip. -

All indications on the software side are that it's working. I don't have a device to charge though, I think.

"Power up mobile devices in less time and using lower energy consumption, even with the notebook turned off. USB Charger+ features a powered USB port with a direct connection to the notebook’s battery to make sure devices are recharged in a fraction of the time a traditional USB port would require, so you’re always charged up and in peak performance. "
Doesn't this imply that there's a hardware side to it too though? If so, the driver won't make much of a difference. -
It seems that it's chipset functionality, not add-on hardware. That said, the power circuitry and all parts feeding the usb needs to be able to supply the 2+ Amperes.

Hey guys, I've been having problems with HDMI cables on this machine, have tried a few and just received a 9 metre, $10 one from china... Anyway, it didn't work, it seemed really hit and miss, until I remembered that my old one only worked if i jammed it right in.
I couldn't jam this one in any further, so what I did was grab a stanley knife and shave the rubber off around the end of the cable. This revealed about 2mm more cable and was enough to easily penetrate the hdmi port to the required level.
So yeh, if it's a cheap cable, give it a shot, the HDMI port on these things seems to be too shallow. -

Guys, do you use Asus Live Update utility? Ever seen it working, finding un update or something? I have v2.5.9 and it seems it's doing nothing. Is there any new version or should I just uninstall it?
Thanks -

Bios update successful! used a 1gb FAT usb, EZ flash in bios.

Could you post how exactly you prepared the usb stick?

1) Windows 7 Memory tester does not even start with more than ~8GB installed.
2) memtest86+ shows no errors
3) windiag shows errors in the first pass, even though it only tests the first 4 GB.

Rearranging the sodimms seems to help. The PCB and type number of one of my sodimms is the next version (ends in 2, rather then 1). -

Considering Dual Booting the Windows 8 Consumer Preview on this laptop, but I had some questions. Installation seems easy, I can just take ~50GB of the D partition, make it into a new one, and install Windows 8 on that.
How does the removal process work though? Can I just format the Windows 8 partition and merge the space back into the D partition? And would the bootloader disappear after doing this or would I have to disable/remove it manually? -
You will have to restore MBR. Prepare a Windows 7 DVD for that.
-
Yeah, I was afraid of that. I guess a virtual machine would be easier to use.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a computer for an architect - my brother, and also for entertainment. I've found too interesting models:
ASUS N53SV-EH72 on Amazon for 870$ and
ASUS N53SV-XV1 on Tigerdirect for 800$ + tax (8%)
Despite the little difference in CPU speed (which is not so important) the second one has matte screen and the first one glossy - is that right (both FHD)?
Basically I prefer matte finish and I've question about the quality of the screens? I'm not expecting full RGB coverage
Thanks for help! -

http://forum.notebookreview.com/8094098-post1418.html
It seems some kind of impedance/load issue. Which there was a way to change the clock speed.
My memory is still not working properly. I guess 16, maybe 20 or 24 is not bad. We'll see. -
Guys any news on Linux support for the dedicated GPU?
-
Saw an ASUS N53SM-ES71 on Amazon. The specs on Amazon isn't complete.
Just wondering if anybody knows if this one has a 1080p display, and comes with Bluray. Also, for the LAN port, is it Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) ? -
Hi to all of you,
I'm new here..and yes..have a question
I have to upgrade my RAM on N53sv-a1, from 4gb to at least 8gb.
so was wondering do I have to stay with 1333MHz or not? and since I havent opened my laptop jet, does it have 4 ram slots and can it go up to 16GB or not (got confusing information on the web for that)
Thanks in advance -
So, recently my N53SN got more and more blue screens when he went from sleep to hibernate.
Really annoying, sunday it had 3 BSODs in one morning.
So I decided to remove Hybrid 4 Gear.
Things I noticed:
- No more BSOD's for the moment
- The wireless lan card keeps functioning when it got out of sleep (it always said I needed to enable the power on my wireless lan, while it was still enabled :/).
- Strangly enough, the performance is better and the battery seems to endure it a bit longer.
So, if you have the issue that I had, try to remove Hybrid 4 Gear -
That is odd as P4GH from asus is just an overlay or a colourful interface to the Windows Power Management
-
-
-
About speed, you can go for lower but better stick to 1333MHz for better speed of course...
If you mix speeds it will take the lowest of them - if it works.
-
Is there an alternative to the ridiculously large power supply that I can purchase somewhere?
Someone told me to put a piece of cloth or something on top of the keyboard as they can press into the screen when closed or pressure is applied is there any truth to this? I also am getting a silicone keyboard cover, do I need to worry?
Also does anyone know of any cases or shells that will fit over this? My friend has a nice speck case for his laptop but I haven't been able to find anything like this.
Thanks in advance. -
Just brought the N53SV-XV1 from TigerDirect for $800. Newbie at computers.
What is the first thing you guys recommend doing? I heard laptop these days come with tons bloatware. Should I be uninstalling unnecessary software?
Also, what's the best way to partition the drive? I've never partitioned before!
Lastly, what's the easiest and painless way to transfer data (picture, music, excel files, PDF files, etc) from the old laptop to this one? -
Definitly clean install it.
I had nothing but BSOD's and just random freezes with all the standard garbage of Asus. I did a clean install and installed the needed drivers and Asus Power4Gear Hybrid but I uninstalled the last one as it was giving me performance issues!
