I'm wondering if there is SATA 2, can someone confirm please?
There is nothing mentioned on ASUS pages, just SATA, nothing else. I would like to replace HDD with Intel SSD X-25M 160GB, which is AFAIK SATA II.
Would you guys recommend another SSD than X-25M, something even faster?

I am using the X-25M in my N53SV as we speak. It is great! That said, if I were buying new I would probably get either the Intel 510 or OCZ Vertex 3 to take advantage of the SATA III capability of our laptop. :D

Do you have a N53SV @czarnyte? does it share the same prob'?
any other N53SV owners can shed light on this matter?

n53sv-sz095v feels soooo much better and faster after i installed a clean windows 7. i recommend clean install for everyone!

anyone tried black ops with this same laptop?

edit. seems like i can't use 3Dmark 11, it gives a message: "No DirectX 11 support. Found feature level 10_1"
weird because i have directx 11. anyone else faced this problem? how do i fix this?

It appears only if the notebook is AC powered, the effect is not pernament, rather temporary (now not so often), but then you can feel it touching all metal flat surfaces (next to the touchpad or the cover).

And what about your camera? Mine works only well if light conditions are very good. In other case performance of camera is really awful, I am affraid it is no question of drivers...

After being absent from this thread a while it appears that Asus rushed this model out due to the delay of the intel chips. Im very disappointed by this and feel that Asus should of taken the appropriate time on such a nice laptop. While I do clean installs to minimize all the garbage that comes out of the box, I shouldn't have to be forced to do it because the computer runs like crap.
This experience has pushed me to give Mac a try.

having returned from macs due to lack of performance on them I cant say this N53 feels like a rushed product.

Will be doing a clean install as well. Anyone able to tell me if it works with an Regular win 7 disk and the key found on my laptop?

I've read somewhere that you won't be able to use the gforce card. Only intel. You should look into that..

the weird thing about camera is that it works fine (well, better) when using picture mode in asus life frame with he resolution of 640x480, but if you change the resolution or switch into the video mode, it sucks. So i think it can be fixed with a driver update

i think the camera is kinda slow with that resolution too.. would've been nice if it were better but definitely the most important parts on this lappy are the processor and graphics.

has anyone solved the directx 11 problem? can't run 3dmark 11.. is it because of the intel card?

i played gta vice city today, and optimus didn't change to geforce. i wonder when it really uses it? i tried trials 2 demo too and it didn't run so smoothly with full resolution and high graphics.. i tought the gt 540m would be good but come on, trials is kinda weak on graphics. i wonder what happens when i try to play black ops or some other new games

on the sticker on the right there is "Bang & Olufsen ICEpower". i've been thinking that is it an amp or some sort of tecnology used on the soundcard, or does it just mean that little sonicmaster equalizer that comes preinstalled? didn't really find that useful..

how about that "Full HD powered by ASUS Video Magic", do i need asus video magic to watch full hd properly, or can i just leave it uninstalled? i didn't really like it so i didn't install it when i made a clean windows install.

don't really understand what that "Extra Computing Power" means, someone explain these to me? sorry for being a noob :D

Hey nama, how did you exactly install the new driver, i installed i too but i still get that hardware t&l problem.
that video ram is little confusing too, you got 4gb and i got 2.7gb?

edit. changed the setting in nvidia control panel to nvidia card as a preferred graphics processor, now the hardware t&l problem is gone.
i googled a little about this and it appears to be a very common problem with gt 540m owners. hope nvidia releases a proper new driver soon!

I wasn't questioning the performance more the quality of the hardware combined with the software. As for purchasing a MAC, well I definitely didn't purchase it for raw performance. I plan to build a desktop to get my Windows and gaming fix.

Thank you. I found that it uses Intel HM65, Intel HM65 Express Chipset - Overview, so I hope that HDD is attached on 6 Gb/s and I can replace with Intel 510 series. Thank you for your tip.

(I was about to order it today, but now I'm little worried about that electrical leakage, which someone mentioned here)

    Hi

I've just read a review on Intels 310 SSD, would be really nice if someone could tell me if there is a spare mini-pcie slot on the N53SV (or any other ASUS)?

Hi, does anyone know how many internal antennae the N53SV-XV1 has? Not sure whether to get the Intel 6200 or 6300 wireless card. Actual laptop's not here yet but I wanna get all the good components ready beforehand. If anyone also knows some guide somewhere to removing the actual keyboard and everything, that would be really helpful. Thanks!

It has two antennas (one for wifi and the other for bluetooth) .. i installed 6200 as I don't want to disassemble the monitor to install another antenna. With two antennas and Netgear N600 i am getting 270-300 Mbps

Awesome thanks, ordering the 6200 now. Also just tested with Samsung Plasma HDTV 42" 1080p with Monster 1000HD hdmi cable, works like a charm. Check your connections to see if they arent getting worn out or loose

Any solutions? Can you run it gives real results though..

    Hello,

Just got my Asus sus N53SN i7-2630QM/4GB/750GB/GT 550M/15.6" Full HD today.

I got a bluescreen after deleting most asus crap and running cccleaner, I also reinstalled both intel and nvidia from the disk.

I had with Steam, Windows Media (playing music), Full tilt poker, Holdem Manager (database program)

Let's hope it's an isolated bsod because it took me 3 months to fix it on my old G53JH and I need this laptop to work.

    Anybody had the same problem?

Also I noticed you need both intel and nvidia drivers for gfx to work.

yeah that's what i did too, it works so much better now.

still having some problems with graphics though. just runned 3dmark 11 and it said that my graphics card is intel hd graphics 200, shouldn't it be hd graphics 3000??? the fps was horrible, under 6fps. i had nvidia card turned to preferred graphics processor at the nvidia control panel but still no luck.

if i have hd graphics 200 i'm going to send my lappy to asus to change that card, because every information on the internet says it's hd graphics 3000 that comes with n53sv. any way checking what card i have?

    getting really frustrated here.

I've installed the chicklet (non-backlit) keyboard from eBay and I love it! It is nearly identical to the keyboard I enjoyed on my ASUS UL80VT-A1, except it is longer with the number pad.

    I've attached some pictures.

Edit: I just noticed that pcper posted a review of the non hd n53. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=1109&type=expert

@nama8137/zishu : any tips for disassembling to get at the internal wifi adapter? i removed all the screws i could find at the bottom but still cant seem to lift any of the larger panels and covers. Is there one underneath the warranty sticker as well? or some tabs i have to push?

also, usb3 port is kinda weird. first time i plugged in usb3 external hd, works fine, transfers fast and all. When I restarted the laptop though, i kept the hd plugged in, and the pc boots but now it won't recognize it at all. I re-plug in the hard drive, it lights up and spins, but windows doesn't even see it, not even in device manager. replug it into a regular usb2 port and it's fine. confirmed same problem with a usb3 flash drive. i have to click "repair" for the Fresco usb3 controller in Uninstall Programs to get the usb3 working again - a solution that only worked once. Now after another reboot, the usb3 port doesn't work at all with any of my usb3 devices. it does work normally with my usb2 ones though, even after rebooting with them plugged in. tried reinstalling drivers for it, no dice. maybe this is related to some windows update package that I installed? something related to usb selective suspend settings? can anyone else confirm this?

There are little tabs above the keyboard that you need to gently push up so you can remove the keyboard; be careful though. The whole keyboard comes out.

think i found the problem - there has to be no usb3 devices attached to the usb3 port upon boot. this means you can't restart with those devices plugged in; you have to shut down completely, unplug (or eject the drive first before shutting down/restarting), power it on and then reconnect only when you've logged onto windows. might not be too much of a hassle for those keeping it on 24/7 (distribution laptops, like seeding torrents or hosting file servers overnight, or htpc's where it'll be really troublesome unhooking all the A/V cables and accessories just to get the laptop portable again) as you won't restart too often, but just a heads up from me in case anyone else hits the same problem. cheers

hmm have another problem. Seems if i connect certain usb devices (have a Tornado file transfer tool that causes this once connected) or connect too many (drives on 3 ports and usb hub on the fourth port with accessories), the touchpad stops working properly. scrolling does some weird stuff like back/forward on internet browsers, clicking on wrong buttons - and the left/right click itself doesnt work anymore. only by removing the device(s) does the touchpad work properly again. i have a suspicion this seems to be somehow related to the electrical/voltage leak in other computers (even though i dont feel any electricity) due to some faulty wiring inside. tried reinstalling drivers and stopping/starting the device and even a look at the internal connections, but nada. Only way i can navigate now is through a usb mouse (using wireless since this is my new htpc). This might be a problem for some who are using this laptop portably and with other devices to connect - make sure you bring a usb mouse too in that case!!
