Hi, I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere; I'm based in the UK and planning to purchase a N53SN however, I want to buy the FHD model which doesn't seem to be available in the UK yet, is there any way to buy Taiwanese or models from other countries online?

I've also read that some 53SN's have a 2820QM processor, is this a mistake?

On the above topic, I'd imagine an i5 would last longer since its power draw would be reduced however someone might want to correct that!

    Thanks!

If the text size is too small for you, just zoom in on the text or increase the font size...

I love having all of this real estate on my screen...I will NEVER go back to 1366x768 again...Even the 1400x900 on my dell is a good improvement over that....

Hmm, I noticed Amazon's "temporarily out of stock." Maybe their next shipment will have the eSata port?

yeah i'm getting used to this and i like it too! just a little concerned about the vids tho.. 720p vids look a little messy with full screen, is it just because i got full hd? all youtube hd vids look kinda awful, but i think it is because of youtube.. i tought it's the resolution that makes the vids look bad, but my friend just told me that bad quality vids look even more bad with a full hd laptop than with an old crappy laptop.

is there a fix for the camera, the thing that annoys me is the framerate. the wierd thing is,when you use picture mode in asus lafe frame with the rez of 640x480, it is fairly smooth, but in video mode (no matter what the rez is set at) it is choppy unless it is facing the sun or the light bulb

Volume, mute, and other power keys where fixed when I reinstalled the ATK driver I got off the Asus website. However it took 2 or 3 installs before I no longer had errors. I recently decided to return this computer though to continuous problems. Decided to run a new Macbook Pro with the Sandy bridge CPU and Radeon GPU. It's completely uncalled for to have these types of problems and this many problems from a labtop in this price range.

    Hi

I am considering buying a N53SN but at a forum 7 people (and increasing) are claiming that there is electrical leakage at metal parts (especially around the touchpad and the back of the screen). It is not about the plug since they claim there is leakage while using on battery (actually they claim there is more leakage while on battery). To feel it you need to touch gently with your fingertips and slide your finger slowly. Some say they are able to feel the electricity during normal usage which gets annoying and disturbing. Can you test, I wonder is it the same for everybody or not?

    Thanks.

What do you mean that SP1 doesnt work? i have installed it but i have a major problem after i did it though... (at least i think my problem occoured when i installed it... )

    "Cant get wmi asusmanagement object"
This keeps popping up. I have the latest bios(209), and i installed the APK-drivers 4 times now, but it doesnt solve it.

    Anyone have an idea?

Just like to say that I have zero problems with drivers after a fresh install of Windows 7. Not sure how to help those with problems. Maybe I will make a list of what to install tonight.

Sounds like you need to re-install windows 7 after doing a quick Google search on your error.

I will try this tonight and let you know

Not so sure, they removed eSata from the product description on Amazon and ASUS websites.

Basically what you are describing is upscaling. If I put a marginal quality 720p youtube up on my HTPC and display it on my 1080p tv you would notice the same level of quality.

Check this page out for some benchmarks on a dual core sandy bridge laptop. You would need to know how large the battery is to make a good decision though.

I am getting my ASUS N53SV-XV1 today from Amazon. 4 GB of ram is already here. Can anyone tell me how do I have to install extra memory? I think I read somewhere that I have to disassemble the machine and remove keyboard to install extra ram, is this correct? Any help is appreciated

Peel off the rubber feet on the bottom (top side of the laptop). Unscrew the screws. Slide off the cover to reveal the RAM and HDD slots.

You are thinking of the G53...there are no access ports on the bottom of the G53. The N53 on the otherhand has an access port on the bottom that has both the hard drive and memory.

Just go to the Asus website and download the user manual...it shows how to d it there.

Just to add my two cents to this discussion.
When I received this computer, I did a clean install of windows 7 enterprise as I had read all the discussions regarding the bloatware. Reinstalled the drivers from the cd or from the website. Did a google search for the one error that I received. Easily found the solutions. Read this forum for other tips and have had ZERO problems.

I am a mac and a windows pc owner and this machine has given me no problems at all.

How good is the Full-HD screen on the N53SN?

    We got a pretty good offer here in Norway for the N53SN with these specs;
    15,6" Full-HD screen
    Core i7-2630QM
    GeForce GT550
    640GB HDD
    Blu-Ray
    16GB RAM

And if the screen is as good as the rest, this one will be a pretty good choice!

So, finally i installed a clean Windows7 after i had some bad luck uninstalling the asus bloatware... Thanx too Nama8138 for the link on how to install a clean windows without a cd.

The computer feels much quicker and responisve now :) It was easy to find the drivers i had to install to make it work 100%. THe only asusstuff i installed is the basic highly recommended stuff, + asus power4gear.

Atm i havent done some real testing, yet... Only thing i have tested is playing starcraft2 for an hour, and the game runs smooth with max resolution and graphics set to "high". Pleased? Hell yeah! :) Also watched Pacific in full HD witch looks awsome on the HD-screen! Only thing im a bit dissapointed about is the sound... It lacks some BOOM in the deeper tones, but what can I expect. I had the x77/n71 before, with a subwofer, and it was better, of course. But it aint a problem as i connect my pc to the stereo with hdmi and watch it on my 40" inch and surround sound, OR using headset :)

Gonna test some more games the next week, including Crysis 2, Shift 2 and Dragon Age 2. (lots of followups there hehe :p)

One question though, is there any drivers i need to install to make the hybrid hdd/sdd work ? Or does it work "out of the box"? ANy way to check if its actually working?

    **edit start***
If there is anyone wanting some testsresult, just come with wishes :) Im not sure wich programs that are good to use, so a link for download and a quick howto, would be appreciated as well

    i have the i5-version btw.
    ***edit end***

    Hi nama8137

I'm really interested in both the wifi adapter swap you did and also the keyboard upgrade. Is it an easy job just to get at the wifi adapter? I have an N53SV which is only a week old and don't like the idea of breaking too many warranty seals etc. Does the replacement card need additional antennas fitting in order to get the full 5GHz a/n working properly (I ask as the card that came with it doesn't do 5GHz)? If it's not too much bother and you have photos then I'd appreciate it.

By the way, I notice on my N53SV the sound is extremely "tinny" as though the speakers are not fitted tight enough. It's like they are rattling, and to mask it I had to turn off the audio "enhancement" app that gets bundled with it. It happened when there is lots of mid-range and bass. Wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience with this machine, or if when you opened yours up you may have noticed the quality of the speaker mounting?

I'm very happy with the laptop, except for the keyboard, the wifi, and the internal camera (so far). I also had the partial profile reset issue when removing the bloatware and had to reinstall the driver for the Fn keys etc. The only way I could get Chrome running again initially was to "run as admin", but a reinstall fixed it. I had to completely rebuild the profile for Chrome though, and there appear to be 2 installs of it listed on the machine now.

Also, plugging in the Logitech B910HD webcam last night caused a BSOD (even though I have downloaded the supposedly 64 bit updated driver from their site). Did you happen to notice how simple it may be to put an HD camera in to replace the stock one?

    Thanks in advance.

Also, I noticed that in an earlier post in this thread someone mentioned hard disc bays (plural). If someone could confirm that there is indeed a spare bay for a standard SATA 2.5" drive then I'd appreciate it (N53SV)

    Many thanks

Thanks Zishu. It would have been a nice surprise...

I just noticed on that keyboard that is mentioned earlier in the thread the picture of it does not have an "@" key on it. On a US layout it should be on the "2" key. It looks as though someone got it partially confused with a UK keyboard, but only for that one key. The watermark on the image covers up so many keys that I can't find the "@" key. I've emailed them to ask clarification. Did anyone successfully receive one of them yet I wonder?

Bigjake, would you mind turning on your private messages so we can chat about this outside the thread?

No 2nd bay. I'm not sure if you could swap out the ODD for a HDD with some sort of bracket though. Not something I want to do but maybe someone else in the thread does.

    2.5 hours I believe

I would say this is an advanced upgrade only for those comfortable enough to take apart their laptop. It may impact the warranty so it is not for the faint of heart. I'm not sure if you could have someone that is authorized to repair them do the upgrade for you though?

where did you buy yours from? Can you give me link/part number etc , i just ordered my dual band router and would like to order this to replace atheros card.

If I replace atheros with this intel wifi card, will I loose bluetooth?

    Hello.

I have problem with stray current in laptop "Asus N53SV-SZ095V". It is so that when I touch the laptop over aluminum area sense noticeable vibrations. The vibration gets worse if I also take on an element. When I unplug the power and run on battery disappears vibration. I measured the creep flow of Asus 6.5V while the saturation of a 3 year old Sony Vaio gave 0.7 V.
The issue is that the newer laptop models or ASUS has commonly some as high creep power?

I noticed it but only very slightly. There is a noise/vibration when the cd drive is spinning and you put your hand on the laptop next to the touchpad, but I hardly notice the small electric charge on the metal surface. It probably just isn't very well earthed. I'm happy that it is actually metal, and that it stays very cool ;-)

I just spent several hours trying to find info as to whether the N53SV is "ready" for the backlit keyboard that I see is being sold on ebay, or whether soldering etc would be needed. No luck finding anything. Does anyone have experience of retro-fitting them? Where do they get powered from? I take it they are in the "always on" mode when retro fitted?

If you by any chance ordered the WNDR3700 and intend putting DD-WRT on it, the Atheros adapter only runs at 65Mbs. Every other device in the house runs at full 150/300 Mbps, but not my new N53SV... That's why I'm very interested in changing it. I dug an Intel 5100 card out of an old dead machine yesterday in the hope it may be of use, but I notice on the pictures (thanks for those by the way nama8137) that I need a half size card :-(

And it appears that I have no ability on this forum to PM yet, and can't find what I need to do to get "promoted"....

That is probably correct considering the Asus website for the N53SV and N53SN do not list an eSATA port.

I just did this last night, after installing windows 7 i just used the driver disk that came with the machine and installed all mentioned drivers in the list ( you will see that after you pop that disk in). There will be a huge list of things you can install, just make sure you only select drivers and not Recommended Applications. I have also installed Power4Gear, ATI(or ATK i don't remember) and Intel Turbo monitoring app besides all the drivers.

    I ordered these yesterday:

Amazon.com: Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR3700: Electronics

I just got myself an N53SV and am having troubles with the GT 540M. It won't detect it no matter which drivers I install on it... (tried quite a few)

It's defaulting to the integrated graphics. How do I change it to use the dedicated graphics?

    Thanks!

I never could until just now. I think the problem I have right now is that the laptop display is using the integrated... so my only question is how to change it to dedicated. Sorry for such a simple question!

    Hey all!!!
I am going to buy the N53SV probably next week. I am really, though, not sure if it will be FHD or not. Can you guys advise me on subject. Is it needed at that size of screen, did any of you make a real side by side comparison?

    thanks for any info...
