You are able to, but you won't be able to use the internal screen then. This laptop does not have ati eyefinity.

Thanks for the link.
I d/l and installed the driver but now the 2 finger scroll doesn't work at all while zooming worked fine. Nor do I see options to use side scrolling. It also displays 2 touchpad icons in the systray for some reason. I though it might be because I have external mouse attached but that turned out not to be the case.
I uninstalled the drivers, deleted driver files, and now using windows default drivers which surprisingly works for 2 finger scrolling... even better than the original Elantech drivers!
I did lose the option to disable the touchpad with external mouse attached so I may have to reinstall an Elantech driver. Anyone else has had a similar experience with this?
Update: Ok, so I guess you have to uninstall the old drivers before updating to the new drivers. Amateur mistake. Just got a bit lazy since most drivers support in place upgrade now. Surprisingly, the default windows drivers still offered better/smoother scrolling than the 10.053. Kinda make me miss synaptics.

Hi
I have a small question. How can I get the information about my computer's SATA interface?
I don't know if I have sata II or sata III... -
Is there a way how to change the behavior of the five buttons in the upper left corner (N53SN)? I'd like to use the play button for controlling VLC for example, not for launching Windows Media Center. And also other question, what is the us of the most left button in the row? Anybody knows?

What Linux? I formatted completely the preinstalled drive at the moment I get the notebook and currently there is not Linux on my SSD afaik

But the question remains, is it possible to remap those keys to other functions? -
It should be.

ok, i sent out my N53 a month ago, and got it back first week of january.
I bought an Asus U31 as a temp replacement, which sporadically has problems with "windows explorer is shutting down/restarting" (why did I buy Asus again). But that's a separate issue.
Meanwhile the N53 still didn't seem as fast was my 6-year old Toshiba M70, but no major problems. Then starting last week, the computer will freeze for 30 seconds to a couple minutes at a time, so often that i can't even scroll an internet window without it happening. When I shutdown, it takes as long as 30 minutes before going to a blue screen "power drive state failure".
It's the exact same problem as before; they didn't fix anything. W-T-F???
Also, when i'm not having freezing problems, internet browsing also comes with a lot of glitches. Like I'd go to a webpage, open another tab, and if I cycle back to the first tab, it becomes blank. Or pages will be half loaded, even though the status says "done".... never had that problem before. And while my mouse doesn't lag, and stuff happens smoothly, there's a delayed time between the action and what I see on the screen, even for stuff as simple as closing internet tabs. -
I am also getting BSOD, after adding 2x 4GB Corsair RAM. I think there may be a big issue with the motherboard. I wish we could get an answer from ASUS, expandable up to 16GB and 4 dim slots was the big draw for me.

Anyone had any weird issues with their N53SV? Past couple days mine had been getting unusual stuttering and battery would not charge all the way to 100%
Per the Asus guideline I flashed to bios 214. I used the flash from within bios mode, it deleted, flashed, and verified, then said it was going to shut down. It shut down, I then attempted to power on, all of the lights came on and stayed on, the screen did not initialize and that is as far as it went. I held power down to shut down and repeated, this time with same result. 3rd time no power at all and that is how it has stayed.
I have send my email to Asus to attempt RMA but I am confused as to what exactly broke. From what I saw the BIOS flashed successfully and the symptoms I have now are not of a bad BIOS flash but the timing is too much, not to mention the battery should have a full charge so if the charger was going bad it should still power on. If it's the battery again the charger should still power it on.
With the power supply plugged in, the charge light on laptop does not illuminate, if it was a bad bios flash I would think it still would light up. The light on the PS does light up.
I really am at a loss, I'm thinking maybe I am dealing with more than one problem at the same time or the laptop just coincidentally crapped out at that point but I am looking for some confirmation. I only have 5 days left on the warranty so gotta get this all in process quickly. -
Hey guys, quick question -- why does the light next to the power button stay white constantly? Even when I uninstall the nVidia driver, it's white. When I'm playing a game that uses the integrated gpu (verified with MSI Afterburner 0% usage on dedicated gpu), it's still white.
Do I need some ASUS utility or app to make it swap colors? I immediately did a full wipe and clean install of Win7, so I have no idea if it properly swapped colors on the default install. I only installed some of the apps on the driver disc after my clean install. It seems Optimus is working based on games, but I'm not 100% sure it's working for regular desktop use.
N53SV btw, running stock Intel drivers and newest 290.53 nVidia drivers. It did the same thing on stock nVidia drivers. -
If You use any stuff that checks the state of the GPU (like temperatures, usage) then the led goes white.

Has anyone tried using more than one external monitor? I think Nvidia optimus only displays with intel integrated graphics, so basically you are limited 1 additional monitor someone correct me if I am wrong.

I've had 16gb installed in mine since shortly after I got it. Haven't had any issues at all. I am using a 16gb pack of Crucial brand.

I just bought n53sv-eh72, did a clean install. works fine. but when i stream youtube video, i notice when the background is black, there are something weird on the screen. here is the image

whyipodtouch, that is weird. I can tell you that before mine stopped functioning I definitely didn't have anything like that.

I don't know, but now my 16gb works fine.
I did nothing, just reinstall all memorys again.

10.0.5.3 doesn't have edge scroll either. At least I couldn't find it any where. Interestingly enough, if I disable horizontal scroll, vertical scroll doesn't work either. Horizontal scroll is too sensitive. If my fingers even wiggle on the touchpad it would scroll sideways; which is very annoying.
This is my 1st Asus laptop. Used their mobo for years and was always satisfied. Gotta say I'm somewhat disappointed with the laptop. I've had 2 Sony, 1 Acer, 1 Dell, 1 Toshiba laptops before this one and I don't see how Asus beat Toshiba for the Quality Award it received.
Sony's tend to break after 3 years or so (daily use) but rarely had any issues with them while they worked. Even the Acer and the vanilla Dell worked without major hiccups. The Toshiba is a 1st gen ultra-portable running windows 2000! Still runs just fine if a bit slow.
Think my next laptop will be a *gasp Samsung. Read somewhere that they make 70% of their own components. Maybe that will finally make everything play nice together. Unless I switch to Mac....

It is definitely a firmware - driver - user mode helper application issue

i am not sure what edge scroll is, i think two finger scrolling seems convenient enough. I just wish they also allow "enter" to be part of the multitouch, it would be really nice.

My favorite touchpad driver is 8.0.5.5.
It has the inertia feature, which takes a while to get used to, but makes the touchpad much, much easier to use by making up for its smaller size.
It's also got autoscroll, which again, helps make up for its smaller size when scrolling (I also turned scroll sensitivity to high).
I also tested disabling horizontal scroll, and vertical scroll still works when disabling horizontal, although I don't have the sensitivity issues with the horizontal scroll (maybe this driver is less sensitive) so I keep it enabled usually. -

I'm having some performance issues on my N53 (I think).
So, after having a lot of freezes and blue screens after removing the Asus bloatware, I decided to do a clean install.
I thought I would have some performance increase after doing a clear install compared to the basic install of Asus, guess I was wrong.
So first of all, booting takes ages. Like 1 minute is a minimum allmost (it is better now though).
Second, the graphics performance. This GT 550M should have better performance than my GF her GPU of her laptop (She has 66xx GPU series).
But anyway, I'll give an example:
The game Team Fortress 2 takes AGES to start op (really LONG, compared to my i7 620M I had before). The game is LAGGY as hell. I have put EVERY settings on lowest so it wouldn't be pushing my system. I even lowered the resolution 1600x900 instead of 1080p and still I have performance issues.
In the Windows performance index, I have, under the Graphics part, a score of 5.2.
I also have an issue with my wireless network card.
I have an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG that keeps hanging on 65 Mbps, not heigher, even if I'm next to the router (tried 2 different).
Googling didn't help me
Anyone else have some experience with these issues?
I have the Asus N53SN-S1307V. -
Subbieh sounds like it might not be engaging the NVIDIA graphics. Go into the NVIDIA control panel and there should be a part for controlling which graphics card individual applications use. Add each game you want and then set it to NVIDIA graphics, that way it will definitely use it.
Let me know if that helps with your games.
Boot time is boot time, you've done a clean install so not much I can do to help you with that. As for the wireless card, it's connecting so I would guess that maybe you are having a driver issue? Try a different version, older if you have to. -
Hey guys could yall post your idle (and load temps) for your cpu/chipsets?
I have the 2360qm cpu, with an nvidia 540m. I used to idle round 40C now i idle round 45-50C?
What are you temps?
Also, another question:, when I leave my computer on idle (not doing a single thing) and I close the lid, the palm rest area starts to SIGNIFICANTLY heat up more than it used to, and more than I feel it should. My fans seem to be working fine, but Im going to pop it open to be sure. Any insight?
THanks! I wanna know your temps!
Last question, anyone here play HL2 or CSS? What FPS are you getting on MAX settings? I read a benchmark with the same specs as me getting 150fps, but I cant top 100, and im usually around 50.
That seems awfully slow for my hardware. THanks!
-sack -
That's about me 40-45
Do you have your screen set to turn off when you close lid? If not I could maybe see it using a screen saver which then kicked in the GT540 and caused it to heat up. Look around your power settings for lid close action and if you use a screen saver use one that doesn't involve anything crazy.
Can't FPS for you as my N53 is out of order ATM but I seem to remember when I did it before it wasn't what I expected it to be. -
Both fixed the issue
Game starts faster and I can put high settings on
And I installed older drivers and I have more than 65Mbps now
Many thanks.
Been testing a while, not it's hanging on 75 MbpsEven when I move closer to the router

Hello,
I purchased about a week ago the N53SN model. Woow such a great laptop! 2670qm, gt 550m (playing skyrim at 1080p full details - only AA and AF off), 750gb hdd, 8 gb ram, 1920x1080 matte screen. The LED monitor is fantastic!
What i don't like:
-the keyboard, but not quite a big issue
-the monitor borders, which are glossy - WHY ASUS ?
-the wifi card, only N draft, 150mbps. Comparing, I have a usb wifi card from TP-Link with 300mbps, bought at ~$17. Couldn't they add a more powerfull card?!
I have only a little problem, regarding the LAN connector from Realtek. It dissapeared from device manager; I googled a little bit, seems it's a usual problem, mostly on desktop PCs. Not solved after 2 windows reinstalls. The solution - I removed the battery and the power cord from laptop for about 10 hours and when I plugged them back and powered the laptop - ta-da!
After that, you must unselect the "allow this device to be turned off to save power" (or something like that..) in the properties for the LAN adapter. OK, but now another issue - it doesn't recognize any cable plugged in. Tried to connect my desktop, my router to the laptop using a buch of cables and duplex settings without success... Any help will be much appreciated!
I don't regret buying this model, as my colleague just bought a G53SX - which is big and heavy; I'm not a big gamer, so the GTX560 isn't so attractive comparing to 550m - and bad luck for him, it seems the laptop has the reported issues regarding the AC pin and so on... -
So, the performance issues in games are over.
I'm still having the following problems:
- Booting takes ages, even though it's clean install.
- Wifi card (Atheros AR9002WB) is stuck at 75 Mbps (at newer driver it's 65mbps).
Anyone else has some fixes? -
-
I am guessing it had something to do with windows update then ? I'll retry the 16gb configuration. -
questions:
1. how many hard drives HDs can this laptop hold at once?
2. what type of HD does this use, so when i upgrade it i dont buy the wrong size? thanks for all the help
