But the nvidia graphics worked fine initially until I made a clean reinstall. Also, it seems the Crucial memory I installed gave me a BSOD yesterday saying 'Paging in non-paged area'. I thought upgrading will be pretty easy as so many people do it! ;)

    edit1754,
Thank you for the suggestion! They offer the DH51 at the same price as the DH71, and I called to see if they'd consider a swap.

Unfortunately(?), Buy.com has the fastest turn around time I've ever experienced. My defective comp arrived there the 3rd, and I wanted to allow them a couple days to check everything over before calling. I called the 5th after work, and my new replacement DH71 had already shipped out.

I'm not regretting the DH71, as my current comp has a 1200x800 screen, and I've been happy with it. It's possible that's why I never even considered screen resolution when shopping. Not sure why; it just didn't enter the equation.

I greatly appreciate the info & guidance the members here have offered, and look forward to giving back to this great community soon!

I've seen the posts where elbolo (?) did the backlit mod, and it looks amazing!

I'm not comfortable opening up my brand new comp and doing this type of modification, though.

I've seen a few places that offer sticker labels for the keys that makes them easier to see in low light. Can people here that have used these give me some pros & cons? Is there a certain company who's product is heads & shoulders better than the others?

I'd love to eventually do the keyboard mod, just not yet, LOL. I'd prolly fry something.

While I am trying to get the nVIDIA card, USB 3.0 working, I realized that there is no Turbo Boost option in my BIOS, and running Intel Processor Identification Utility, reported speed, even while running apps like Lightroom, is ridiculous 0.79Ghz! No wonder my comp feels sluggish while using lightroom. I tried updating to the latest BIOS (214), still there is no mention of Turbo mode in the BIOS! Help! If this gets sorted, I think I might not even feel the need for SSD!

EDIT: I found solution to the CPU problem by going into system configuration, selecting 8 cores while boot up. Though the BIOS still doesn't show Turbo mode, The Turbo Boost monitor has got working and Intel Processor IDentification Utilityshows Reported Speed of 2.59Ghz! :)

can someone post benchmark numbers for batman arkham city with your cpu power options min and max to 100% so I can compare the 2720QM to the 2630QM. There's gotta be a 2-3 fps increase.... right? same gpu... I'm running the gt540m @ 820mhz core clock on my asus k53sv.

Well he tried writing from adress 0h, but all i does then is give blue LED's...
I asked asus, they say it is classified information... Do you know which files to use and from which adress needs to be written?

There are also vendors on the web selling bioschips.. but i wonder then if these will work... Any advice?

I would think he would have programmed the chip with external hardware i.e. an SPI programmer. Hopefully he made a backup of the chip first which should be a 4MB image. If he did then post a link to it and I'll have a look.

    Elantech 10.5.5.0
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad

This version enables the (horrific) dead time on the touchpad at keyboard activity. Probably due to setting of DisableWhenType_Enable to 1 instead of 0 in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\Elantech\OtherSetting in registry.

    10.0.5.3 is better.

I own a Asus N53SV-sz404v and have the same problem.
Tried to install 4x4 GB, same corsair ram.

I've updated to bios version 214.

When i run memtests for individual modules or 2x4GB there are no errors, but when using 3x4GB or 4x4 GB i get 800-2500 errors as result.
I have also used various combinations with the corsair ram in and the 2GB and 4GB cards that came with the laptop, same problem.

Anyone with a solution to this problem?

It's likely very possible to swap in the lcd panel from the ASUS G53. It's like $200 shipped on ebay. Its likely to be possible on most 53 series laptops. I'm running a K53SV and it's likely to be possibly. If I had a G53 to test the lcd on my K53 I totally would!!

I also want to upgrade the screen on my N53SV. I plan to order a full hd matte screen from here:
ASUS N53SV replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $55.99 Brand-new screens (never used).
Problem is I can't find the full HD cable anywhere except on the site elbolo mentioned. But since I'm in the US, I want to avoid the $22 shipping cost and complications with distance. Has anyone managed to find another cable that works?

Here's the link provided by elbolo for the full HD cable.

    Hi Guys,

Is the thread seach function not working properly at the moment? I'm trying to seach for posts related to "webcam" but it returned no results.

Anyways, I have the N53SV and motion blur (frame rate) on the webcam is just horrible! I've tried the hardware ID, then lookup on asus website method but I already have the latest driver 5.8.55133.207 installed. Any suggestion on how to fix this?

Also, which driver do you guys recommend for the multi-touch touchpad? It's not very accurate. Often mistaking 2 finger scroll for zoom. Or should I just revert back the classic border scrolling method?

I just got the N53SV 4 days ago from Amazon, and other than the webcam and touchpad issue. I'm generally pleased with the (rather large) laptop. Upgraded Nvidia driver to 285.62 and Battlefield 3 runs ok at medium settings (generally 25+ fps). Keyboard is a bit flimsy but I generally use external keyboard and mouse anyways.

Occasionally the system does seem to hang for a breif moment, but that could be due to any variety of reasons. Overall, I just wish it was a bit smaller so it would fit into my laptop bag.

What processor do you guys have? This might happen on i5 (dual core) but not on i7 (quad core). Anybody tried 32GB? I guess the N53SV-sz404v is supposedly i7.

Hmm, don't think 10.0.5.1 has edge-scrolling. When two-finger scrolling switches to zoom hit CTRL. Using 10.0.5.3

i am thinking of upgrading the atheros network card to an intel 6230 on my n53sv. Can anyone tell me if i need to install the intel driver prior to installing the card or if i can just install the card? i've read on microsoft that the card is compatible with Win764bit does this mean the drivers are already present? Anyone already done this? Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

    Thanks!

But I can't seem to find the 10.0.5.3 driver version. Most recent version seems to be 8.0.5.3 WHQL as noted by radarsync dot com. Is that the one you're referring to?

I rather not install radarsync product in order to d/l the driver. So if you could provide a d/l link I'd greatly appreciat it!

    Thanks for the suggestion.

But as I'm much less adventurous when it comes to laptops. I rather not pop it open unless I have to.

In this day and age and with a company like Asus, I'd think you had to look pretty hard for a webcam that sucks this much. Good thing I rarely use it.

How do you like the matte screen? The past couple laptops I've had were glossy with anti-reflective coating. Do you find the contrast on the matte screen to be good?

    Hello all,

I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the ASUS N53SV-EH72 as it is $949.00 shipped via Amazon Prime. Then I stumbled across the same model on Amazon Warehouse in "Like New" condition for $825: Amazon.com: Used and New: ASUS N53SV-EH72 15.6-Inch Full HD Dynamic Entertainment Laptop (Silver Aluminum)

Also, there is the (older?) asus-n53sv-xv1 with 1080P glossy screen for only $646: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...E7U53NWQ&qid=1327092134&sr=1-3&condition=used

Other than some minor spec differences, can anyone provide guidance here? The n53sv-xv1 seems like a great deal, but if there were some problems with the older model, or if the glossy 1080P screen is significantly worse than the matte 1080P screen, I'd rather pay the extra to get the N53SV-EH72.

Then this morning I read that Ivy Bridge will be released soon. I wonder if it would be better to just wait. Then again, it will probably be expensive when released and I'd prefer to get a 1080P laptop for under $1000...

    Thanks!

I have the XV1 since August or so. No problems whatsoever at all. The glossy screen is the same as every other glossy screen you've ever used, whether it's another laptop or older TV. All the same. Great price, seeing as how I paid $900.

Same problem with more than 8GB RAM. I bought from Amazon Asus N53SV I7-2670QM and crash with mor than 8GB Ram. Doesn't matter any conbination of memory.
I got the same Corsair of first post.
    I think is BIOS problem.

just picked up a k53sv, 2.0ghz 2630qm intel, nvidia 540, 6gb ram, for $689+tax, and love it. couple of things:
my cd drive will randomly check for a disc while empty, i dont think this is good for it.
    2. my 6gb of ram is actually 4gb from 1 manufacturer and 2gb from another, strange....

Screen looks great! Both contrast and brightness are excellent for indoor use. I don't really use laptops outdoors so wouldn't be able to tell you how it performs under those conditions.

BTW, any one has any other suggestions for the webcam issue besides replacing it?

I tried d/l the 5.8.54000.207 drivers but it turned my image upside down with no frame rate improvements! Reverted back to the factory Sonix 5.8.55133.207 driver fixed the issue. But there's got to be another way to improve the webcam frame rate!
