Thanks for the info on that! I hadn't really even considered a full HD screen when buying. FWIW, I mainly surf the web, do e-mail, watch videos, and play occasional games. No hard core multi-tasking or gaming, or I would have bought one of the ROG boxes, LOL.

My comp is due to arrive back @ Buy.com on the 3rd, and I'll see what their verdict is. If they'll entertain a model change, the DH72 is only $110 more, so I'd consider that. I mainly wanted Core i7, nVidia graphics, and liked Asus' 2yr warranty.

FWIW, my current computer is a VERY basic, three year old Toshiba A205-S5000. Celeron, 2GB DDR2 memory, intel graphics, 120GB 5200rpm HD, & 1200x800 screen. ANYTHING new will be nice to have, LOL.

Hi all, I follow this forum for a long time. Thanks to your comments, I could open my laptop, which came with a Core i3 2310M. Now I have put a core core i7 2630QM. I have also put 8GB of RAM, an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD 120GB and a Sata Caddy 9.5MM (to use the original 640GB hard drive, I don't need the optical drive)

I recently purchased a 6230 Intel WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Bluetooth 3.0. But I have several questions. Can you take the mini PCI for anything else? For example:

    TV/DVB-T/FM Mini PCI-E Card Laptop/UMPC

    http://www.ebay.es/itm/AVerMedia-A3...pAccess_RL&hash=item2c55cfc061#ht_3264wt_1037

    SATA ADAPTER

    http://www.ebay.es/itm/ADAPTADOR-CO...tDomain_186&hash=item2569c02c1e#ht_707wt_1037

    GSM 3G HSDPA PCI-E Mini

    http://www.ebay.es/itm/Unlocked-Sie...ltDomain_0&hash=item45ffbdc70f#ht_2066wt_1037

    USB 3.0 Mini PCI-Express 2 Ports

    http://www.ebay.es/itm/Mini-PCI-e-U...rfaceCards&hash=item336482ba99#ht_2947wt_1037

    Mini PCI SSD 16/32/64GB

    http://www.ebay.es/itm/New-MINI-PCI...ltDomain_3&hash=item3f1179d1cf#ht_4032wt_1270

My idea is to buy a usb wifi adapter and use the mini PCI for anything else. I am interested in the two USB 3.0 ports. My N53sv model is basic and has not incorporated.

I have no problem in terms of space, because the caddy is hollow (simulates a DVD drive and only the center is occupied by the HDD), the output could be on the front of fake DVDs. But I don´t know the function of the white connector. is a DC imput cable? In this case, it is impossible to place this connector, right?

    Any ideas?

My Sata Caddy. The right side (black band) can be manipulated because inside there is nothing. Just that area is what limits the mini pci port extension:

    Thank you

You don't need to focus on getting a Core i7 if the most performance intensive thing you do is "play occasional games". The screen upgrade makes much more of a difference, especially in this case. You'd be fine if you switched over to a model that trades-out to an i5 processor and has the 1920x1080 display instead, such as the DH51.

one possibility is to buy a 3 Pin Fan Splitter Cable 2 Fans to One Power Source:

and a 3 pin fan Female Adapter to 4 pin Molex Male cable:

I think this model is best suited for the location of the cables (not connected up as the previous model):

Edited: I think it will be impossible. The first model has the problem of cables placed on top (I have assumed that work on 12 volts, but nowhere is informed of the input voltage.

The second model has a strange imput power: 6 pins and 5 volts. And I think the fan power cable is 12v.

All this without knowing if the motherboard recognize this mini pci

Hi everyone. It's been a year that i have this laptop.I have bought one with 1366x768 resolution and was considering replacing the screen with a FHD.I wanted to know if FHD screen looks good on this laptop or not and if the screen can be replaced with the FHD one.I was considering buying from here ASUS N53SV 15.6 FULL HD REPLACEMENT LAPTOP SCREEN | ASUS N53SV REPLACEMENT SCREENS,does this screen fit?If anyone has a better alternative just tell me.

Yes, it CAN work...You'll also need to upgrade the cable to a full HD cable. See the posts below.

Credit goes to Elbolo. He took this on and figured out how to make it work.

    Hope this helps.

I bought my laptop in Pisa,Mediaworld.I took it to them but the guy who was working there didn't even know what i was talking. That was nearly a year ago.I'm considering to go one more time now.I believe you took it to the shop where you bought it.Can you confirm?
Also for the site where you bought the lvds cable, how long did it take for the shipment?

Is there a difference between azurewave and chicony webcams,is it worth changing?

If you are looking to save a little money from the DH72 and blu-ray and a bigger hard drive you can do without you can try the EH72. All the same features as a DH72 minus blu-ray drive, 500gb 7200rpm instead of 750gb 7200rpm HD, and bluetooth 2.1 instead of 3.0.

My comp should have arrived back at Buy.com today. I'll track to verify, and if so, call them tomorrow. I'll see if they'd allow me to swap to the DH51, if my DH71 qualifies for replacement. They sell the DH51 & DH71 for the exact same price, so maybe they'll allow the swap. The memory, optical drive, & hard drive differences between the two models don't matter much to me. Should they?

I looked for the EH72 when I saw an earlier post of yours mentioning it, but Buy.com doesn't have them for sale. Looks like a nice combination, though!

    Hi peeps

I recently purchased a ASUS n53sv-sx788v lap top. I am an amatuer with very little knowledge about lap tops.
I have a couple of Q's, my keyboard is not lit. Is there a way to turn the keyboard lights on? When i use the mouse to scroll the page down (using 2 fingers) it always seems to make the page larger or smaller, how can i stop it from doing this?

    thanks

    Hi guys,

I have Asus N53SV, it came with 1366x768 screen. Can i upgrade it with FHD?

Where can i get the screen that fits this model and instructions to install? and does the existing screen come with the standard 40 pin connector or do i need to buy some sort of a convertor cable for the FHD to work .

    thanks.

It also does this occasionally for me.
Hit the CTRL key to get it out of this mode.
Also make sure sticky keys is not on.

I don't think the Asus N53 series has a backlit keyboard at all. I have the XV1 and it does not.

Check a few pages back, someone posted pictures of how to do this and I believe where to get it. If not, PM him on where he got the screen and cable.

Ready to pull the trigger on either Malibal's Lotus W150HM or an Asus N53. Having difficulty understanding the differences between the N53 model suffixes. Leaning toward an SV due to full HD screen resolution vs. SN's "bad screen". SN-RH71&72 have 8GBs RAM (vs. 6 on SVs) and nVidia 550 card (w/2GB memory) vs. the SVs' 540 (1GB). Would appreciate any insight on:
    1) Weighing pros/cons of SV's better screen vs. SN's better graphics card & RAM, and
    2) Helping me understand what, if any, technical/component difference there is between the SV-RH71 and 72 (I haven't yet found any...).?..

    Thanks

Yes, but you made those upgrades yourself lol. Mine came with a 1920x1080 screen already. I just don't have a backlit keyboard, but that seems to be a mod that anyone has to do with the N53 models, as I haven't seen a single one with that. Not a deal breaker to me anyway

    Hi,

I installed 16gigs of memory (Crucial) on mine! :) and also got Asus ML39H ips display! :)

Now time for the SSD upgrade. Which is a decent 120-130gigs SSD for N53SV-XV1? I don't want the best, but I surely want to have the one which gives the best value for the money.

Another thing is that after i plug my WD passport USB3 external hard disk into the usb 3 slot, after a few seconds, the external hard disk becomes undetectable. It runs okay with usb 2 ports. I had seen this problem discussed on the forums, but failed to see a solution.

    thanks

Ok so ran into a problem with my EH72, it seems opposite of all the problems that people are having with the Nvidia Optimus.

My GT540m is always on, i tried setting it to integrated but it ticks over for a second to the integrated then goes back to the GT540m.

I have tried switching power profiles. EDIT: Actually i am starting to think it is lit up as the GT540m but i think the integrated graphics is what is working and not the GT540m.

I had done a fresh install on the laptop, but when i tried to install the nVIDIA driver, it scans the system and says compatible hardware not found! nVIDIA control panel says Card is not detected. :-(

it's not just one solder, I taken the +5v from usb board un the right side, then as switch I used the wi-fi switch, that is placed on the power board, it's a permanent mod.

Glad that fixes the integrated problem but does nothing for mine lol. Since i just got the laptop i even tried using the recovery to wipe the system clean. Nothing, it still reverts to the GT540m. I guess its not the biggest deal it just sucks for when i need use the system on battery.

blue = Intel, white = GF... are You using any widgets for temp monitoring or stuff? They keep the white led active as the software pings the driver for temp reads.

No widgets, i downloaded the latest beta drivers which i hadn't done and it fixed my issues (290.53) I was using the latest Windows approved drivers. Now it uses integrated until i open a game or HD movie.

    Thanks for the advice.

I must say that i am really impressed with this laptop (n53sv-eh72) for the price. It might just be that i haven't bought a new laptop for almost 4 years but it offers such much for under a $1000 USD. Build quality is solid like my last Asus, the only thing i find quirky is the keyboard. The shortened right shift key and the weird placement of the arrow keys. I enjoy all the fn buttons and like having dedicated volume keys this time instead of it built into the trackpad.

It seems though that this model doesn't come with the Momentus XT but at least its still a 7200rpm hd. Gaming for a few hours yesterday and the laptop only got a little warm on the left size and the fan might have been running but quiet for its operation.

I have an Asus Notebook N53SV, I would like to expand my ram up to 16Gb, so I bought nr.4 module of RAM Corsairs CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9, extactly the same showed in the picture in the first post of this tread, but my system crashes every time I try to install more that 8Gb of RAM. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed, but when I install more that 8gb, if the system report the correct ammount of memry installed, after few minutes, I get the blue screen.

Do you thing that my notebook as any problem?
Somebody elase has 16 gb of ram installed and has his system works well?

    Thanks a lot!

THanks for your reply. I installed the Intel Graphics driver suggested here-
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-n53sv-n53sn-sandybridge-owner-thread-97.html
but still getting the same problem while running NVIDIA graphics setup. I ran the GPU-Z utility and it shows only the Intel graphics in the drop down menu.

Also any advice regarding SSDs, I'm sure many would have upgraded to SSD by now.

    thanks

Hi if you go into asus splendid utility and change the display to thearter mode you will find it changes to the nvidea graphics card and the white light replaces the blue. Now open cpu-z and it will show the nvidea card in the drop down. If you want to use in nvidea mode then leave the display in theater mode.

C'mon, that's perfectly normal. Why the heck would You want a discrete graphics to render the OS?
If You want to check the nvidia in the CPU-Z, just right click it and run with the nvidia card...
    Or simply use AIDA64...

Did you save the setting with the green tick after switching to theater mode? Also in nvidia control panel have you set global setting so the default card is nvidia?

    @ankhazam and ASUS787,

The thing is I am unable to even start the nvidia control panel as it says it is unable to detect/ recognize the nvidia graphics card! as if the hardware is not there at all!

Is it detected in Device Manager? If not then I would say you have a big problem!!! Is it still under warranty? If so I would send it back!!!

My apologize then, must've missed something in the thread.

    So...
    1) You've got latest Intel graphics drivers from www.intel.com
    2) Does your led white led blink during startup or is it solid blue all the time?
    3) Does your hardware manager show the nvidia card (maybe with an exclamation mark) or only the Intel display adapter?
    4) You could not install the latest stable (NOT beta) drivers from nvidia.com for 500M graphic cards.

    Dear all,

    I have a serious problem,
During a Bios flash my bios got corrupted and bricked. I had no warrenty anymore so i send it to a guy who said he could fix it. Now after reprogramming my bios 20 times all the laptop does is give blue led's...
The problem is that there are no compleet BIOS files available so he says, and i also read earlier here.. Asus only give parts of the bios as updates.

Does anybody know how to obtain this full biosfile?

EDIT: I just heard that the Bios file has to be written on the chip twice since the biosfiles are 265k and the chip is 4mbit. Does anybody have experience with this?

I think you mean 2560k and no, it does not need to be written twice. The BIOS region is 2560k but the chip probably also has a descriptor and a ME region and possibly a GbE region if your laptop has Intel GbE which with a 1.5MB ME SKU take up the first 1.5MB of the chip. Normally the PCH will block reads and writes from BIOS to those regions and only allow read write to the BIOS region.

How did the guy reflash the BIOS?

Once again, why, why, why are people messing with flashing their BIOS? There is no fatal flaw in this machine that requires a sudden BIOS update. I owned the Sony CB laptop that required a BIOS flash to get the dedicated graphics card to work. The Optimus on the N53 series works fantastically, the components are top notch, and the build quality is excellent.

DO NOT MESS WITH FLASHING YOUR BIOS UNLESS YOU 100% KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND YOU 100% KNOW IT IS THE LAST OPTION YOU HAVE TO FIX YOUR PROBLEM. Even then, ask here anyway. There's been too many people here bricking their systems for 0 reasons at all.

    No problem at all! :)

    1. Yes
    2. Do you mean the LED near the start button? It remains blue all the time.
    3. It doesn't show nvidia, bu does show intel display adapter.
    4. Yes

I tried to manually install the nvidia driver following this advice (post #6)-
Can't install NVIDIA graphics driver v. 275.33 - NVIDIA Forums

It atleast began to install the driver, but failed mid way. I am at office right now, but once I go home, I would try some other lines to add the driver details onto.

    thanks
