I recently got an N53SV-DH71, and am considering adding memory to it. I looked inside, and it has 1x4GB chip, leaving three slots open.
I was wondering if I add 1x4GB, which slot should I install the chip, to have it run in dual-channel mode.
My next question is, does this computer support triple-channel mode? If so, I'll order 2x4GB chips; but need to know what slots they should be installed in to enable the triple-channel usage.
Hope this makes sense, it's my first post here...
-
Mobile processors currently only support dual channel
-
What slots pair up for dual-channel mode? would it be 1&2, then 3&4; or 1&3, then 2&4? I've read somewhere that sometimes there's color-coding, but I didn't notice any when I peeked in quickly. -
Hi guys,
I'm looking to get a 9-cell replacement battery for my Asus N53SV and I would like to know which is the most reputable website to buy a replacement battery from? I know they are a lot of websites that are selling generic replacement batteries for the Asus N53SV, but I would really like to get an OEM replacement battery. Thanks for your help guys. -
Does anybody have issues with the standard wireless card? It is the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG. Mine cuts out on Linux and Windows every 10 minutes, all connections will disappear from the available networks list. Usually I can reset the wireless adapter and it will work for a few more minutes, after that it will just show the red x on the icon and I have to restart the computer.
-
Hi guys! What a great laptop, huh
?
I only have one question, how do you find the fan noise? I find that I allways can hear the fan, even tho it's low it kind of sound like an remotely controlled electric airplane that is far far away. -
Don't hear it at all. At times I put my hand on the side to make sure it's even on. Still, barely feel it lol, unless I'm gaming or something.
-
My fan is pretty quiet, when it's on battery it barely comes on, when playing games on the other hand it can be quite loud. It might be wise to invest in some noise cancelling headphones if you game a lot.
So, nobody has any issues with the wifi? I put Windows 7 on the second partition and it still had the problem. I might RMA this laptop because that's what Asus told me to do. That, or just buy an intel wifi adapter. -
1&3 or 2&4 will work just fine but it really doesn't matter as the processor will sort it out.
Hope that clears up the issue!

Just wanted to see how you are making out with the monitor/hd cable upgrade?? If this works out for you then I'll be doing the same.
Thanks,

Hi everyone, I just bought the N53SV-DH72 and I even when I love this model I have to say that the wireless card is worst than what I thought. Now I fell the necessity to change it.
edit.- Well I just read that the intel 6200 card works fine.. I'll try to find one!
Thanks -
-
edit.- I wonder if I'll break any warranty seal while I open it.. will I lose warranty? -
Replacing the wi-fi adapter usually doesn't void the warranty. Oh and any half-height m-pcie adapter will fit in your notebook. Asus doesn't whitelist components usually.
-
Only problem is that replacing the adapter require a lot of disasembly which will probably void the warranty
-
yeah I know it requires disassembly, I'm ok with that, but I don't wanna lose my warranty.. Damn it!
I guess I can use the Ethernet cable for 2 years haha -
What i would do is open any panel held by screw on the bottom of the notebook. With luck, you'll have access to the wireless adapter, i have access to the ones on my n50 and g73 from the bottom panel, but there are always a few exceptions. That is unless a N53S owner confirms that the adapter is not easily accessible. I know it is not easy to access the adapter in a N53J, but it could be different for the N53S.
-
N53S
Practicly the same, need almost full dissambly from what i've read, still trying to get the 6230 for me, can't find over here in Brazil. -
yeah there are pictures in this thread that shows how to disassemble your laptop and reach the wireless card. It looks complicated, but I think I can do it.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...s-n53sv-n53sn-sandybridge-owner-thread-6.html
But now I'm worried about the warranty.. -
I doubt that would void your warranty unless you break something, so be gentle during disassembly. Usually Asus has warranty voiding a sticker on the CPU heatsink and that's about it.
-
ottesen, what kind of issues are you having with the wireless? Mine drops connection a lot and must be restarted to regain it.
Sometimes when it loses connection and I run the Windows 7 troubleshooter, it tells me to enable wireless capability and when I click it, it works for a while again. Does enabling wireless capability mean enabling the adapter? If so how the heck did it get disabled... -
added 16Gigs! Whooo!

I guess I'll be placing an order with Crucial for a 4GB memory chip. I figured since it only has one chip in it now, it's running in single channel mode. I hope a 4GB chip from Crucial will fix that, not to mention just having 8GB total. -
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad
Version V10.0.5.3 -
ELANTECH Drivers
has a newer one. -
10.0.5.3 (just installed) seems perfect, with no keyboard interaction.
No edge scrolling though.
10.0.5.3 has a new feature: Asus smart detector, which seems to be related to palm tracking -
If anybody cares ( I doubt it, since everybody ignored my original post).
I fixed my wireless issue. I opened my laptop up and found that one antenna was not connected. I reconnected it and now the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG works fine. -
I recently bought an ASUS N53SN (and loving it atm
)
But, I do have got an issue:
After the PC went in sleep/Hibernate, my function keys seem not to work anymore. I do have the ATK package installed though... And after a while I used the key, the computer stops responding for a while (+- 10-15seconds) and then it responds again...
Anyone got some idea to solve this issue? It's annoying that the keys do not work, like disabling sound, changing screen brightness etc. And that the computer gets stuck for a while...
Also, when I have this issue, and the computer goes back in sleep mode, the computer leds stay on, but I can't get it back on (screen stays black, hitting boot button etc) :s
Anyone else has this problem? -
-
Edge scrolling kind of works with the 8.0.7.0 elantech driver.
The major problem is that I have to restart ETDCtrl.exe after every standby/hibernate event. -
my asus n53sn1 performs very inconsistently. 50% of the boot-ups will freeze on a black screen at some point or take up to 15 minutes before it is ready to use; and 50% of my shut-downs will freeze at the "shutting down" window or take up to 20 minutes.
Sometimes the computer will freeze for 5 seconds to 5 minutes at a time, whether surfing the internet or using adobe illustrator or any program.
Windows Media Player will work only on half of my successful start-ups... but since my success rate at start-ups is only 50% I usually just forgo listening to music when that happens, rather than risk another failed boot-up =(
It's been like this since september when I bought the laptop, but I've been too busy with school to get it fixed. I'm covered under manufacturing warranty, but it still costs money to send it to Asus, and they'll probably take at least 4 weeks to get it back to me... and it'll probably be still be broken... and i'll have to repeat this 3 times before I get a new machine. I can't afford to be without a laptop for 3 months.
Did I get a lemon? -

Just got my N53SV-DH71 for Christmas, and am having issues out of the box. It freezes up, no BSOD, just a freeze requiring a hard shut down w/ the power button. This happened right from the get go, when trying to register Trend Micro, and again when trying to register it with ASUS.
Called the Tech Support number on the back. Thick-accented tech described how to recover the comp using the F9 partition recovery, and gave me a ticket number before hanging up, assuring me this would fix my problem. Took several tries to get the recovery done due to freezes, then I went thru the "restarts a hundred times" thing where it loads a new icon/program every restart. I did notice at one point, it ran a memory test, and the computer passed that. Heck, it froze during the new setup a few times.
I e-mailed the retailer, and then assured them I have the original packaging & that the UPC code is intact, which seemed to be their main concern in issuing an RMA. Just awaiting their response, hopefully I'll get an exchange.
I may call ASUS tech again tomorrow, to see if there's anything else that can be done, as the issue remains. It may freeze @ start screen, it may let me goof around for 15 minutes or more, can't find a rhyme or reason to it.
Did I make a mistake buying ASUS? The three-year old Toshiba Celeron-UNDER-powered laptop I got the N53SV to replace, never gave me issues like this. Thanks for letting me vent, hope I just got a lemon.
Any clues on "whut the phuque" is up, and is this common? -
Or do you mean Version V7.0.5.16 from elantech?
Does this give you edge scrolling? -
I've never had problems with ASUS machines in the past. Again, sounds like a bad HDD to me. Seems to be something common lately, but then again, I hate using stock HDDs. Most all laptops (minus Apple really) come with bare bones garbage made HDDs, usually by Hitachi or someone else. Change it for a reputable brand. -
I think ours (XV1) has a seagate drive. And no problems here so far...
Are you guys loosing functionality with the new elan drivers?
two & three fingers tapping don't work (or don't even appear as an option).
I thought we are supposed to gain functionality not loose it each update... -
Indeed no multi-finger tapping anymore with 10.0.5.3 elantech touchpad drivers...
You can be a dare devil and try 10.6.6.4 ...

The 1366x768 screen makes things onscreen rather large and makes multitasking more difficult than it should be. It also has very poor contrast so black isn't as dark as it's supposed to be and the image becomes washed out. It's a bargain-bin LCD screen, and the worst type of screen available for a 15.6" laptop. Of all the spec differences between the different N53SV models, the screen makes the most difference because it affects everything you do.
Some of the models that have the good screen (1920x1080) are:
- N53SV-DH51 (matte)
- N53SV-DH72 (matte)
- N53SV-EH72 (matte)
- N53SV-XV1 (glossy)
- N53SV-B1 (glossy)
Some of the models you should generally avoid, because they have the bad screen, are: DH71, EH71, XE1, XR2. -
-
maybe i should have taken advantage of that 1-year ADW and "dropped" it to get a new one right away...
-
Or tried a better, more reliable HDD. I still think re-installing Windows on a reputable branded and new HDD would have solved the problem instantly.
-
Just placed my order from Amazon for the N53SV-EH72! Felt like a good deal with free $50 gift card which i most likely will use to pickup the Corsair 8gb ram kit. I was thinking about the DH51, but felt it was worth the extra for the i7 and 7200rpm hard drive. I couldn't justify the $100 difference between the EH72 and DH72 for blu-ray and 250gb bigger HD.
I felt it was time to replace my Asus M50S-1B, its been a beast but its starting to act up and really looking for something new after 3.5 years. Here is to another 3-4 years with this Asus! -
New fresco usb 3.0 3.5.24.0 drivers
FRESCO LOGIC
with release notes.
Reboot not required if nothing is attached. -
Good luck!
