hi elbolo,
did you solve your lcd problem? I am having the same problem as you! I ordered a screen like yours and here too there is a "red" screen and bad resolution, although it has right 1920x1080 settings! I was told it's the cable connecting the video card to the lcd display ... hd-ready cable is different from fullhd one (sort of "dual link" cable for laptops...).
If you investigate and find something about it or a solution could you please let me know (also privately) ? I will do the same.
Thanks!

UPDATE: asusparts.eu told me that they need from 1 to 4 week to have the cable :-(
toghether with full hd cable I ordered also a chicony webcam, maybe it's better (or less awful) than azurewave -
hi elbolo, thanks for the info! Is it problem to let me know where did you order the fullhd cable ? From Asus Italy ? Which part number ? May you please give me more informations about that? Thanks!

LVDS Cable Full HD N53JN-1A Asap 10B-0058-NW2 -
Graphics cards settings, Not really using the onboard, it flashes blue for a second every so often but straight back to white
how do i change this? -
-
How hard is it to switch optical drives
-
simple, lift the keyboard, remove 1 screw.
-
OR
Right click desktop >> Nvidia control panel >> Manage 3D settings >> Add (Find program .exe) >> select on the 2. the GPU you want
If you led is white there is a icon on the notification bar wich tells you what is using nvidia GPU -

Hey guys, I am wondering if this forum is still active, but I am having some troubles with my asus n53sn xr2. It randomly freezes, and I dont know why I have to hard restart everytime, its getting annoying, someone healp
-
Consider:
- Go to original hardware (HDD/SSD & Memory)
- Go to factory software installation
- Update drivers
- Return to manufacturer
- Not using NVIDIA
Let us know what worked -
-I'm kind of a computer noob, if i go back to original hardware, will i lose everything?
-I've updated all my drivers except i can't find a legit BIOS 208, even when i thought i did, it said i didn't have a program to open it
-Return to bestbuy? I think my time to return the laptop is over, plus i didn't buy any insurance for it.
-Don't use Nvidia? I'm a gamer, so i kind of rely on Nvidia.

You can download the bios from, including the bios utility
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N53SN
Alternatively, you can flash from the bios, taking the file from a flash disk. DON'T TAKE IT FROM YOU HARD DISK IN THE BIOS.
Your laptop is still under warranty. A system should not freeze.
Does your laptop freeze during gaming then, or what? -
Yeah, let us know any hardware changes.
I have the N53SV-XV1. I haven't touched the BIOS or Nvidia drivers since day 1. They all work perfectly, so why bother updating them?
Many causes for freezing, so we'll need more info on hardware changes. Could also be a virus, bad harddrive (they can fail soon out of the box, has happened to me many times), bad program installed causing a Windows lockup, etc.
Best Buy has a 14 day return (not sure when you got it). If not, Asus will replace it, but we should be able to figure it out before it comes to that last resort. -
I've tried downloading the BIOS from there already but when i open the file with winrawr, there isn't a setup.exe file. It says windows cannot open this file, and i need to find a program to open it with or something like that -__-
My computer doesn't freeze when I game. Thank god. But it usually freezes when im browsing the internet or when I'm on iTunes. I thought it was firefox so i switched to chrome, but it still freezes. -
-
Pretty strange. What program do you use? Try running Malwarebytes and see if that turns up anything. Asus has a 1 year warranty
-
-
Asus might ask you to revert to your original software installation.
You could back up your system, and do so already.
Or you could restore your installation to a different hard disk drive, and see if it still freezes.
I'm recommending to involve asus. -
Yeah, I'd contact Asus and get that started. Sounds like a defect to me. No real hardware issues that we can see so far and it doesn't sound like any software problems. Might be a bad HDD, which I'm assuming right now.

Hi people.
I've got a problem: yesterday I tried to update my N53SV-XV1 BIOS, and did so using the latest bios from my hard drive. The process went well, and when it finished, the laptop turned off. The thing is, I couldn't turn it on after that. It's absolutely dead, even when I plug it to the power supply, the green led wont flash. I tried with a couple of things, like removing the battery and pressing the ON button for a minute or so, but to no avail whatsoever.
So, is there anything that could be done? I contacted ASUS but they couldn't find the solution. Do you know what could have happened? -
As recommended on the previous page, taking the bios from the hard drive is not recommended, at least when you flash from the bios menu, and not with winflash.
Eazyflash + NTFS = brick. You MIGHT have gotten a warning before flashing.
Send your system back to Asus. Careful what you mention though. When it happened to me, my system had to be returned anyway due to Sandy Bridge Sata ports. -

Ok, guys, thanks. I'll see what can be done, because I bought this pc elsewhere, so there's no RMA for me. I've found a repair center that specializes on these matters, that is, corrupted BIOS. I hope they can pull a Lazarus out of this :'(

Anyone Uses EVGA Precision and their recent overvoltage utility? Just curiouse if anyone played with it or know what the stock voltage is, i haven't touched it but I remeber on my old hp I had upped the voltage from 1.10 to 1.15 and it helped a ton with OC, not sure so much on 540m. The Utility goes from 0.975 to 1.150, if anyone messed with it that would be interesting to hear.

and you only get to know if you contry is covered when you need the warranty... cheap move on asus -
Not to be mean, but take this as a lesson to not mess with BIOS updates unless necessary. Why is everyone updating their BIOS? This machine works flawlessly for me since July/August. There's nothing breaking that needs to be updated via the BIOS.
Hence, unless there is a severe flaw that needs to be addressed, stop messing with BIOS updates. As seen in the last few pages, this can result in bricking your entire machine. -

I recently bougt an Asus n53 HDDCaddy from here sata hddcaddy 12.7 yes I know you can buy them from ebay but I live in France and I didn't want to wait for weeks and import costs.. Anyways normally you can take the dvd-drive out of a laptop by unscrewing a lock-screw beneath your laptop but I can't see it on the N53..how do you remove the dvd drive?
Second, I also removed Asus Sonicmaster but I like to reinstall it..where can I download Asus Sonicmaster?
Thank you for answering! -

Can this laptop fit a 15mm thick drive?

I made in a thread in the main Asus forum but I realize that I probably should have probably just asked here. I'm sorry about that, if I could delete the thread I would.
I'm considering purchasing a NS3SV and I need some advice on choosing the D72 model or a lesser model.
Here's a link the DH72:
http://www.amazon.com/N53SV-DH72-15-...3906246&sr=8-1
I need help figuring out the differences between i7-2670QM and i5-2430M. I understand that the former is more powerful, but does having an i7 mean the laptop will be hotter and have a shorter battery life (on varying intensities, the more specific the better)? How will I have to be using the laptop in order to warrant an i7? If the battery and heat are the same, then I don't have any problem just going with the i7, so you can ignore the previous question if that's the case.
I'm not too knowledgeable on screen finishes, does the N53SV series have matte or glossy screens?
Are there known frequent/infrequent out-of-the-box issues with the bluray player with this specific model?
I'm open to any alternative recommendation for entertainment laptops that are similar to this one for <$1000.
Thank you! -
Took care of deleting the thread and removed the link to it in this one.
i7-2670qm is a quad core CPU, the i5-2430m is a dual core. Yes the i7 will generate more heat, but it has more muscle in multi-threaded apps. You can find the complete specs for each CPU on Intel's website.
The screen will be a glossy one.
If you really don't know what laptop to get, you can ask in the what notebook should i buy section. Feel free to ask any Asus related question in the asus section though.

I have the i7 and this thing is whisper quiet. The fan barely runs at all and is cool to the touch. The heat management on this series is fantastic
-
I have the N53SV-A1. No Heat and I mean NO heat, fan barely runs and it never makes a sound. My i7 is just .2 GH less than yours and except for the HHD screen they are identical and mine is absolutely crisp and clear as a bell!! I also should mention that I bricked it with a bios update, called Asus and the next morning it was out the door Prepaid RMA and back in 7 days with a new mother board and the LATEST BIOS.... Now that's SERVICE in my opinion!
Buy it and don't look back.

The guys that were supposed to repair my BIOS mess told me a moment ago that the whole BIOS got erased, and Asus, it seems, only offers a fraction of the BIOS for update, so they will try to track down a file with the whole thing...whatever that means. To make it short, it looks like I'm screwed.
If you know where this whole BIOS file could be found, please let me know. Thanks! -
You could contact Asus, they might ask you to set up a RMA though. Another option is to go through the nearest Asus service provider.
-
Thanks tijo for deleting the thread!
And thanks to Yazzinit and Archdean for the responses. I was mostly worried about the N53SV with i7 getting too hot and noisy even under moderate use which is what I'd be doing most of the time, but I'll definitely be picking it up soon. Thanks! -
