Ive already tried this with Heroes VI though and the game would not even start. But I will try this with another game, a Steam game when I get home tomorrow! -

It works!
How strange that it didn't work with Heroes VI, non-steam, but works with the Heroes VI demo on steam.
Thanks again -

So, for anyone contemplating getting the chiclet keyboard, I really reccommend making the purchase.
I ordered October 1st, it was shipped October 2nd and arrived today (well, yesterday, 17th October). During the interval I'd sorta gotten used to the monstrosity that ASUS had included with my N53SV-XE1, but that was just the resignation sinking in.
With the chiclet keyboard, my accuracy has shot back up and more importantly, I can again type without having to look down at the damn keys. I'm no touch-typist, but I'm not one to constantly look down, it's annoying and restrictive.
Oddly enough, I now notice keyboard flex and some serious clickety-clackety sounds in the left part of the chiclet keyboard: Tab down to Ctrl; Tab across to E; E down through D and C; and Alt back to Ctrl (unparallel sentence structure?). Not a serious problem, but I'll be looking to eliminate it by getting some of the oft recommended double-sided thermal tape or, as one member posted earlier on, Dynamat.
For anyone interested, here's the link: NEW ASUS K52 N53 N61V N60 N61J N61 Series US Keyboard | eBay. The keyboard is shipped from Hong Kong.
Next on the to-do list:
1) Laptop sleeve and carrying case/backpack
2) Clean install of Windows 7
3) 128 GB Crucial SSD drive of some kind
4) Two four-gig sticks of Crucial RAM -
Good to know, thanks. I've got flex on the standard KB, but I don't even notice it when typing, only when looking for it.

Finally a promising guide how to enable AES-NI instructions on N53SN and N53SV notebooks with Core-i7 2630QM processor
http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...rypt-sandy-bridge-problem-15.html#post8002488
And another question, does anybody know, how to clear CMOS on N53SN notebook? I'd like to flash new firmware to my OCZ SSD drive and this step is recommended... but I can't obviously remove the CMOS battery, because it's well hidden under the chassis. Thanks. -
You've tried that 208 ROM?
-
. It did warn me that the file was not a proper match for the mainboard.
-
Don't waste your time! I assume you have BSODs? If so, do what I did and get a Crucial m4. Have NOT had a single BSOD after I installed it and had several per day on the OCZ drive. It's all about those Sandforce controllers.
-
And about the BIOS - I've not tested it yet, waiting for other N53SN owners to test it
On the other hand I've modified notebook BIOS before when having Compal HEL80, original BIOS had not Virtualization support and I enabled it successfully -
This is so ridiculous that Asus refuses to change their BIOS when all is needed is a bit change!!!
Will wait as well.
May I ask how will you see the change? actual performance I mean. -
-
-
Having a bit of trouble understanding the latest chat: Why does ASUS need to change the BIOS? The laptop has no issues whatsoever since I've had it. 4GB, i7, 1920x1080, SSD.
-
I flashed the BIOS I downloaded on my N53SV and don't seem to have any problems.

Hi all,
I had bought N53SV last month and was happy with it until one day its wifi stopped working. I mean I can see the wifi networks and I can connect with my network, however, I cannot access the internet. I first thought it was a hardware issue as there were a few posts about its poor wifi. However, upon installing linux Mint on it, wifi works perfect. So basically it is a software problem and specific to Windows. AFAIK, I have not deleted any driver. Its driving me nuts as I stay on campus. Your help appreciated.
thanks -
This can be caused by a number of reasons. The first that comes into my mind, and which happened to me is: go to properties of the wireless and check that IPv4 and 6 are on obtain auto'. Sometimes it might be changed from setting ad hoc or another software.

Hello all,
I have my eye on a custom spec'd Asus N53SV-A2 from Powernotebooks (FHD Matte screen, 8GB memory, 120GB SSD + 750GB HDD in the optical drive). I'll be using it for Adobe Premiere Pro, a bit of After Effects, and most prominently, Arkaos GrandVJ (live video mixing software).
My main concern with the laptop is the Optimus graphics; I have seen people in various forums post over and over again with problems related to the Optimus not switching GPUs when needed. Unfortunately it was difficult to find a laptop I wanted that didn't have Optimus.
I just want to feel some assurance here: Am I correct to say that it IS possible to manually set specific software programs to always and automatically open using the dedicated graphics card? And if so does it work reliably (so once you set it, it doesn't switch back)?
I was also wondering if anyone has had any issues with outputting to a second output (not mirroring). I need to be able to see my VJ software on the laptop screen, and then output the fullscreen live video to a VGA projector. I know this graphics card is "capable" of doing that, I just wanted to know if it actually works.
Please let me know about both of these inquiries, I would really appreciate it. -
It's working quite reliably for me. The easiest indicator that discrete nVidia GPU is active is the white light next to the 'On' light on the right side of the notebook. When there is blue light, only the integrate Intel GPU is active.
Also when right clicking any executable or link there is the context menu with choice "run with graphic processor..." where you can choose the right GPU unit. You can also set for your apps the right GPU unit in nVidia driver settings, just click the nVidia logo in system tray and there find you app in the list or find the executable in Program Files or wherever it's located and set the default GPU unit for it, easy -
hi guys im after some help please
my i5 n53s is really starting to bug me now
the bootup time is around 30-40 seconds and it seems to hang at the welcome screen for ages.
also the intel turbo boost gadget takes about 15-25 seconds to load up too, is this right ?
if anyone could ofer me any help it would be very very much appreciated
thanks -
Optimus doesnt activate gpu in flash videos with the newer drivers
-
I saw the same problems. Optimus works perfectly for me. It doesn't work in flash type things such as, Youtube or something, but integrated is more than enough for that. I'd say 99% chance it's fine, depending on exactly what you're looking to run. I haven't used a 2nd output so I can't comment on that.
-
My paranoia kicked in a bit - I've actually decided to purchase the standard N53SV-A2 model and test out my software on it for a week, and then return it for a full refund. If everything (mainly Optimus) works, then I'll reorder it with my custom configuration. I'd have to pay a big restocking fee if I want to return my custom laptop, which is why I'll just try the standard model first as a preliminary.
I'll report back here once I get it and test everything out. -
-
As the search doesn't really work for me, i just ask, how far did we get in terms of Linux? Last i checked ther GPU switching wasnt working, and you where looked in the intel gpu, is there something working now? I would like too start using Linux again.
-
why does turbo boost serve no purpose
tomorrow im planning on a format and starting fresh, what asus pograms are essential i reinstall ?
tomorr -
The turbo boost gadget/widget/monitor is useless. Turbo boost is Intel's chip boosting itself during certain applications as needed. It works all on its own. The monitor that Asus included is useless because...who really needs to know that turbo boost is on or not? It's not something you can click on and say, "Hey, speed up my processor!" It just happens on and off when needed. Thus, having a monitor for that just wastes space and system resources. -
-
Cool, thanks.
Edit: [asked a question, but nevermind.] -
any solution about being able to strech the screen on lower resulotions?
-
Thanks a million. That's exactly what was wrong. Its working great now.
cheers,

I've been in contact with Powernotebooks for the last 2 days about a custom N53SV-A2, then I realized today that they had taken it off their site. I emailed Donald and he responded:
"The –A2 version is end of life and there are no more available. However it will be replaced with the new version shortly with the Intel® i7-2670QM processor."
Anyone know anything about this "new version"? I'm guessing it will have the same specs as the A2 just with an upgraded processor? I'm hoping the price tag doesn't go up too much... This is rather frustrating, the fact that my A2 questions were being answered implied that they were still available. -
I'm slightly concerned about possibly getting a "new version" because that would mean no one else has used it yet. One reason I wanted the A2 was because I read specific reviews for that specific version. But does it actually matter what version the laptop is, as long as it's the same model (ex. N53SV)? In other words, do people experience similar problems/successes with different versions of the same model (the N53SV-A2 and B1, for instance), or do experiences differ by each version as well? Hope that made sense...

can someone tell me
this bootup time is not right is it ?

can someone please look at my boot log, is this an issue ?

I guess the successor of this notebook is N55SF - same price, better processor and GPU, slightly worse design, imho.
