Okay, thanks a lot for the info. If you happen to find that guide please let me know. I'd definitely appreciate it. But besides that your suggestion is to install "my" copy of ultimate (wink wink) and then load the cd that comes with the laptop to get the basic programs? Just out of curiosity, which of the programs would you consider "useless" for somebody who is only interested in the laptop for entertainment purposes?

Isn't the SN also with an i5? When I was compared SV-XV1 to SN-XV1, they both had 1920x1080 screens. However, I chose the i7 and GT 540M over the i5 and GT 550M (SV)

Trying to remember lol. That secure login camera crap. The Intel accelerator turbo boost monitor. The entertainment/performance Asus profiles thing (Windows 7 already has this). Just a few off of the top of my head. You'll pretty much see them since it'll be a bare laptop and some crap o nthere.

There is SN with i7 <--- I am using it right now but its not FULL HD , its HD ...

The most hated thing in this Laptop :-

    - Need to be cleaned ALOT
    - If you don't have grounded , you will get static eletric as me .. -.-

And the Bloatware is crap! I still dunno how to format Windows 7 because there is no CD with it and I did backup .iso it came 70gb... what a Windows 7 take 70 gb??

And I got problem with Nvidia Control Panel, the Desktop managment isn't there... , there is alot of missing things... I still dunno how to re-install it , if I unistall the drivers it will be still there and just say there is no video card.... ,
and when I play Counterstrike, not Widescreen , Normal screen the Counterstrike will be 3/5 of the screen , and there will be black background on left and right... so its small to play a bit ..

Try looking here on how to reinstall Windows legally.

As far as Counterstrike goes, I don't have this issue. Have you tried changing the resolution?

I haven't touched my nVidia drivers since taking the laptop out of the box. Optimus has problems according to alot of people, and if it ain't broke, don't mess with it lol. I've had 100% success playing games with Optimus. Dead Island and NBA 2K12 work flawlessly and smooth as hell.

x86 is 32 bit and x64 is 64 bit. Having programs in two sections is normal as not every program is available in 64bit.

Got the N53SN and I'm loving it. Few questions however,

    1) What do I need to reinstall to get my function buttons and the buttons above them working?

I uninstalled some bloat and I think I accidently uninstalled one of the wrong programs/drivers. Brightness function works, however sound and other functions/hard buttons don't (except power).

    2) What graphics drivers are suggested here? Currently running the ones from ASUS website and they are smooth, however I noticed a newer version on Nvidia's website. Playing games like Witcher 2, graphics drivers would make a difference, just wondering what is suggested here for better performance. Thanks!

    Here's my Asus N53SV-A2 Review: Enjoy :)

Boxing: I bought this from Amazon about 2 weeks ago, it arrived in 3 business days even though it said 3-5. The packaging was solid, It came with an outer boxing, and than the Asus box itself. Everything was in it's order, nothing loose, missing or broken.

BloatWare: Many people complain about Asus's bloatware. So I was expecting tons of things I would have to uninstall. However There weren't really that many, just a few Asus Tools, gadgets, etc. but nothing that took me more than 15 minutes to do.

KeyBoard: A lot of people have been speaking lowly of the keyboard. However I like it a lot. It's not a Chicklet style keyboard for those wondering. The keys are right next to each other and yes there is some slight "flex" in the keyboard, but It feels super nice to type on. Keys feel tight and solid.

Screen/Resolution: When I first opened the lid of the laptop I thought they sent me the 17in one. It's very large for some reason it seems larger than my old 15.6 in HP. It could be due to the large music grill, but it still looks very nice. The Resolution (1920 by 1080p) is eye candy to the eye. Everything is super sharp, and looks very "Clean". I also popped in "Transformers 2" into the Blu ray Slot, and it looks just as good as it does on my 62 in Sharp tv.

Gaming: Gaming on this thing is fairly decent for a GT540m (Google it). The graphics card is a fast mid range graphics card that can run basically every game out there so far on at least medium settings. I haven't downloaded too many games yet, but Team Fortress 2 runs flawlessly in full 1080p Maxed Out. Same with Civilization 5 (Direct X11). BF3 however runs in medium to high settings in 16:9 ratio, which is still amazing for a GT540m. Just be sure to download the latest drivers from NVidia.

Audio: The speaker system on the Asus is by Bang & Olufsen. Basically the speakers blow everything I've ever used away. The quality is super clear, loud and projects. The speaker grill is also very conveniently placed so you can hear everything crystal clear regardless of where you're sitting in the room. I had a party at my house a couple of days ago so to entertain the kids I had Toy Story 3 on Blu ray running on the laptop. It kept all the kids (7-8 kids total) all entertained.

Performance: This laptop is a beast at running programs, As I was typing this, I had music running in the background (1080p quality on youtube), my email, and steam, and an antivurus running all incredibly smoothly. No hiccups whatsoever. Battery is great, lasts around 3 1/2 hours while doing normal programs. Also let me just mention that I have never owned a laptop that is this silent. I mean the fan is noiseless, It run but I can't hear it at all.

Overall: The Asus N53SV is an amazing laptop regardless of which version you buy (I bought A2). The overall blend of visually appealing, powerful laptop and overall build quality is exceptional for all under the price of $1,000. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who wants to entertain, game, homework, movies, etc, etc. Overall I give this laptop a 9.7/10

It can manage to run on medium-high settings but on Caspian border with its 64 player map, you will be experiencing quite a lot lag spikes even with the latest beta drivers.

ot-must fix that hd5770 cooler XD

a question regarding colors and color profiles. i have fullHD screen on n53sn, after windows load at first colors are normal, but few seconds after logging in some color profile loads and screen becomes too blue (well its not like a big issue, but colors are really too much on the blue side) i tried adjusting colors in intel control panel, but it seems theres no effect and i'm pretty sure its intel to blame. in ubuntu colors are perfect. any ideas? has anyone tried calibrating monitor and adjusting colors on n53 models? pls share your settings if you did

found a fix, if you also have problem with intel overriding your windows color profiles try this, helped me. c/p from another forum:

I used to have the same problem. You need to do two things to get your custom color profiles going in Win 7 with Intel chipsets. First: if you haven't done so already, go into color management (just type it into the search field on the start menu), add your profile in the 'Devices' tab if it isn't there already and then 'Set as default'. Under the 'Advanced' tab click 'Change System defaults' and a new color management window will pop up. Go into the 'advanced' tab again and tick 'Use Windows display calibration'. For some reason the intel drivers will still override Windows tho so you'll also need to disable igfxpers.exe in the startup (use msconfig or CCleaner to change it).

The last one is a bit of a hack (haven't experienced any ill effects tho), but until intel decides to fix their product it's the only way to do it right now, at least to my knowledge.

    Hello,
please, can anyone send me the driver for the webcam? Or at least tell me exactly the type of it? I am unable to install the drivers from the CD or from the Asus site.
    Thank you!

Double click on it(the unknown device) and go to the "Details". There select "Hardware Ids". You should get something like USB\VID_046D&PID_C52F(in this case this is a Logitech mouse). Just google for the particular VID(vendor ID) and PID(product ID).

Download the file on your drive FAT/NTFS, no need for pendrive. Enter EZflash from bios. Select the file. If the bios recognizes it (model and version) of the selected file. Choose yes and you're done. However if your file after selection shows as unkown then don't flash and redownload :)

According to the BIOS update guide some N71 users bricked the chip when they were flashing from NTFS harddrive partition, hence the suggestion to use the FAT formatted USB stick.

That's what I did when I flashed BIOS the last few times and mine was FAT32 formatted. Though I have SN model and not SV.

hey guys...just want to clear up some stuff before I order this unit: N53SV-DH72 from PC CANADA - NOTEBOOKS - The Original and Highly Rated All-Canadian WebStore

does the N53SV supposed to have 3x USB 2.0 or 2x USB 2.0? and only 1x USB 3.0?

I've been reading reviews and watching youtube videos of the N53SV...they all have 3x USB2.0 and 1x USB3.0...ASUS US site has 3x USB2.0 and ASUS CA site has only 2x USB 2.0....just dont understand why they would have one less usb.

    I think for Elantech:

    8.0.5.x is for Asus/MSI
    8.0.6.x is for Gateway/Acer
    8.0.7.x is for Samsung
    8.0.8.x is for Toshiba

I don't know what specific improvements/changes are... I think with 8.0.5.4 the user mode touchpad programs were flaking out.

Is it difficult to change the wireless network card on N53SV? removing the cover on the back, only give me access to the harddrive and RAM.

thinking of replacing it with the Intel Advanced-N 6230

Never had any such problems with realtek sound. Please consider uninstalling sonic master.

The sonic master (SM) version of realtek is on
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Audio

For instance the 103.02 MB version of Version V6.0.1.6438, with "SM" in the filename, contains the latest version of sonic master, probably still 1.0.0.4, which can be seen in the "uninstall and change a program" panel.

    Hope you can resolve this.

I have this really weird problem where if I set the Power4Gear Hybrid program to anything other than High Performance the audio gets choppy during flash videos or the videos dont work at all and audio players just simply stop working.

Foobar2000 for example gives me this error when trying to play music in Entertainment Mode.

Unrecoverable playback error: Unknown error code (0x887C0032)

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

    EDIT:
and btw, it seems that in anything other than High Performance mode, all the audio go to the Realtek Digital Output rather than my Speakers, both being my playback devices (I have no idea what Realtek Digital Output is and what it does)

I have tried to disable this playback device, but it did not fix anything at all.

    @chinonozu

No problems whatsoever, neither with switching modes, flash nor foobar2000.
    I have 6.0.1.6449 (R2.65 from Realtek's site) driver installed.

As for Digital Output, check settings in Realtek HD Audio Manager (you'll find it in control panel).

    Hello,
I recently bought the N53SV and reinstalled W7.
Now I can't seem to get the nvidia drivers to work properly, it seems that many ppl has had this problem before.

What I think it is, I'm pretty sure of, is that the system doesn't automatically switch between the integrated Intel card and the nvidia card..

I have tried loads of stuff, googled it and there was another guy who had a similair problem and he fixed it by downloading another MSI driver, but that didn't do it for me.
Ive tried loads of other nvidia drivers but nothing works.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks lots!

You have to put the programs you want to use the Nvidia card into the Nvidia Control Panel. Ie: Games, Photoshop, etc. Otherwise, it's going to run on Intel.
