I'm not an expert on reading logs like this, but from what I see, it's only loading drivers. I don't see anything crazy, which means either something extra is loaded that isn't on the log, or something I don't know of. I'd say do a fresh install of Windows.

If that's the successor, I'll pass. From looking at some models of the N55SF, that thing is in the $1200+ range, $400 more than what I paid for this. This thing works perfectly lol

Really?! UGH... That's just my luck. XoticPC's site says they still have some N53SV-A2's available, but I wanted to go through Powernotebooks because they are much closer to me. If I ever had to ship anything back to PB for repairs it would only take 1-2 days, versus probably a week for Xotic or another reseller on the midwest/East Coast. >_<

The Asus website server is too busy so I can't check it there. I looked at a few other sites though. I hate this keyboard and the ugly glossy cover - it looks like it will be easily scratched and smudged compared to the great design of the A2. So frustrating! And the fact that the VGA port is on the left side instead of the back really sucks for me because I'm going to be using it all the time.

Does anyone know of any other reputable Asus resellers on the West Coast (California, Nevada, etc.) that do customizations?

Can someone confirm whether or not the N53SV-A2 has an E-Sata port? I was told by Powernotebooks that there is an E-Sata/USB 2.0 combo port, and from the picture of the ports it looks like it is to the left of the USB 3.0 port. Yet XoticPC is telling me otherwise.

Hmm, I wonder if Powernotebooks is just talking about the N53SV-DH72? From what I can see it has the same specs as A2 but with the processor they mentioned. Also when I went to the A2 page on Amazon, it suggested a link to the DH72 claiming it was a "newer model of the A2." I'm still waiting for a response from Donald @ PB to clarify what this "new model version" actually is.

A bit confused about wlan. Asus site says we have Azurewave, the Device manager does say Atheros. And where does the BT driver come in?

We have Azurewave AW-NB037, but they use Atheros' (now Qualcomm Atheros) chips.

    Regarding WLAN:
I'm running Atheros V9.2.1.459 you'll find on ASUS' WLAN driver page as I had issues with preinstalled V9.0.0.222. I've checked that hardware ID matched mine inside .inf file, just to be sure it would work, before I went on to install the driver.

    Regarding Bluetooth:
I'm using the one that came preinstalled (7.2.0.65). There seems to be a newer driver on ASUS' Bluetooth driver page (Azurewave V7.4.0.40), but I have not tried it. Maybe Atheros driver will work too, but setupconfig.ini is slightly different, so I don't know. There is no .inf, it's a setup, so I couldn't check if it would work.

(reposting, I think it got buried on the last page)
Can someone confirm whether or not the N53SV-A2 and/or DH72 models have an E-Sata port? I was told by Powernotebooks that there is an E-Sata/USB 2.0 combo port, and from the picture of the ports it looks like it is to the left of the USB 3.0 port. But XoticPC is telling me otherwise, and most sites I've checked don't include ESata in the specs.

One more question I had: Can you "double tap" the touch pad to click, or can you only use the plastic button beneath it to click?

Of course you can "double tap", but it will be a double-click. You tap once for an ordinary click.

Judging from this video N53SV-A2 doesn't seem to have e-Sata, just USB3.0 port. Don't know about DH72.

Interesting. Then what is the port to the left of the blue USB 3.0 port? Is it a third USB 2.0? I'm just trying to get my details straight, it's annoying that some sites aren't accurate.

It works perfectly, ordered one too from ebay, $20 with free shipping... i'm just wondering about raid, has anyone got any info on this?
I installed a 2nd hard drive and even though it recognized in bios, my only options in sata mode were IDE and AHCI, is there another way...?

ESC during boot (on my N53SV-XV1) lets you choose which drive to boot from.

DELETE takes you into BIOS where you can set the boot order of devices.

I have a problem with my touchpad elantech. It seems to not react when using the keyboard. There seems to be, at the very least, a dead time. Now that I know, I will very quickly get very annoyed by it, so I'm sorry to impose this information on y'all. Is there a way to disable this feature? I'm using version 10.0.5.1 from asus.

On intel's site it says that the 2630qm acepts only 8gb with dual channel, if the pc uses more than that it switches the speed to single channel...
This does not mean that if you have 16gb you'll have single channel, only after you open so many programs that it start using more than 8gb...

Anybody got any info on RAID with N53SV??

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't care so much about single vs dual channel. But can you show me the reference for this issue?

What I care about is whether it has 4 sodimm slots or not, so I can put 16 GB (with 4 GB sodimms) or 32 GB (with 8 GB sodimms) in.

    Hi Guys,

I'm aware that my question is allready asked before in this thread, but none of the previous solutions answered my question.

I'm a proud owner of a Asus N53SV, i7-2630QM. There are only two problems last few weeks, which a haven't been able to solve.

    1) Normally the NB runs on integrated graphics -> blue led, but sometimes it switches to the vcard (GT540M) -> white led, which then results in 10 seconds to a BSOD. First thing I thought, out dated drivers, but I'm very sure they are up-to-date. So the question is, does someone had some problem and how did you solve it? I'm running Win7x64

    2) Does someone managed to install ubuntu 11.10 on the same machine?

    Kind regards,

    farmer-duck

Hi I've been trying to decide between the n53sv-a2 and dell xps 15. Both have 1080p screens, blu-ray drives and similar specs. I've seen the xps 15 and it has good and bad points, build quality wise, how is the n53? Also, am wondering how the sound and keyboard is on the n53? Thanks in advance!

THe N53's quality is fantastic. The only "problem" is keyboard flex, but I've experienced that on very many current models, so I don't even list it as a true issue myself. Build quality is sturdy and it runs near silent and cool. Keyboard is great for me. If you want a chiclet style, they're like 20-30 dollars U.S. on ebay and easy to install in under 10 minutes.

Sound is also good for laptop speakers. I use externals, but from what I've tested, they're just fine on their own. Highly recommended. The XPS 15 was one I was also considering. However, the size and weight of that beast is insane. It's over 8 lbs and runs warmer than I liked. Completely happy with this instead.

Hi Yazzinit , thanks for the info. I too have heard the xps 15 runs warm and dell keeps insisting on putting a 9-cell battery on most of the xps 15's which sticks way down from the bottom of the laptop. I just wanted to know about the n53 because none of my local stores carry it so I couldn't go see it in person. Thanks!b

Yeah, it's tough to find a specific Asus model in person. I had no problem buying without seeing it in hand though. Highly recommended once again. 1920x1080 screen, quad core i7, GT 540M graphics. XV1 model.

Why are You guys trying with 10.x... versions?
I did test the 8.0.5.x series and they worked horribly.
However the best one so far is the official for N53Sx ->7.0.5.16, at least for me ofc.

You are right in that 7.0.5.16 might be best. But there is a lot of choice now, and new developed laptops probably all get the later versions. In my view sticking to the official doesn't quite make sense, because that just was the version which was current at the time. But yes, ocasionally less then perfect drivers occur.

I'm looking for a version which has edge-scrolling, pinch, and definitely no "disable while typing". Does 7.0.5.16 fulfill this?

Note: I'm not actually sure asus is still making new laptops types with elantech touchpads.

Has anyone run into an issue with their laptop freezing when coming out of sleep mode? I need to hold down the power button for a few seconds to cut the power. I've tried with two different hard drives and two installs of Windows. Latest drivers, BIOS, various power settings, etc. I'm going to run through memtest86 tonight, but otherwise am completely out of ideas. Nothing good in the event viewer and there are no memory dumps as the system doesn't even get to blue screen before locking up.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Happens to me too, and I use sleep alot... probably something related to optimus in my opinion...
It happens seldomly though, I put it to sleep/awake like 5 times a day, and it happens ~2 times a week...

This never happens to me, and would be completely unacceptable. My system has been rock stable. Using all latest drivers I could find on asus (drivers "laptop"), or from Station-Drivers: le site de drivers, bios, firmwares avec un forum d'aide.

Not running an SSD, are your?
